Work Text:

It had been a long day.

It wasn’t anything that was anyone’s fault, nothing you could say “this is why I’m stressed”, just a bunch of little things that all added up. Jungkook could tell by the tone of your voice over the phone that you weren’t your usual self.

“Are you okay?” He asked, and you sighed. You didn’t want to worry him, or bother him with how crap your day had been (though it wouldn’t have bothered him at all, as you would have known if you hadn’t already felt so down).

“Yeah, I’m fine.” You said, holding your phone between your ear and shoulder. You slipped your shoes off as you stepped into your home, not particularly excited to be alone.

“Can you do me a favor?”

You really weren’t in the mood to do anyone any favors, but Jungkook wasn’t just anyone. “I guess. What is it?”

“Meet me at our park in twenty minutes.”

You knew exactly what park he was referring to, it was the one where you had first met. You had been trying to get healthy and were going for a jog (while also trying to reply to a text), and he was riding his hoverboard backwards when the two of you had collided. Jungkook said it was fate, and that it was your lucky park. You weren’t so sure about fate, but you did love the park and all the memories that were there.

“Okay.” You said, not sure why he wanted to meet there this late at night. “Is there any particular reason?”

“Just be there.”

“I should have known you wouldn’t dress warm enough.” Was the first thing that Jungkook said to you when you arrived. He had been waiting for you on a bench, his backpack slung over one shoulder. As he walked over to you he took off his scarf.

“I’m fine, really.” You said, but Jungkook ignored your protests and wrapped the fabric around your neck. Once he was sure that you weren’t going to freeze to death, he kissed your forehead. It was the beginning of spring, but the nights were still quite cool. The scarf was still warm, and smelled faintly of Jungkooks cologne. “So why did you want me to meet you out here?”

“Getting out of the house always makes you feel better.” He said, taking your hand in his and pulling you along with him down the sidewalk. “Where to first?”

“Wait, what do you mean?”

“Hot chocolate or icecream?” He clarified.

“Jungkook.” You said, stopping in your tracks as you realized what he was doing. “I’m really fine, you don’t have to–”

“I know.” He said, turning to you. “Humor me.”

You bit your lip. “Okay. But instead of ice cream, can we just… Walk?”

He nodded, happy that you were at least okay with spending time with him. Jungkook knew you well enough to realize that sometimes you just needed some space, and asking you to come out with him was pushing it a little, he knew.

You walked through the park together in comfortable silence, and you were indeed grateful to be out of your house. You could feel the stress falling away as you made your way towards the stream that wound through the park.

“The stars are really pretty.” Jungkook said, and he was right. The sky was unusually clear, though you weren’t sure if you were seeing stars or satellites.

“Is this the part where I’m supposed to agree, but instead of looking up, I look at you?” You teased, and Jungkook snorted.

“Apparently not.” You had arrived at the stream, and the two of you sat down in the grass near it. The moon was reflected in the water, rippling and distorted.

“Hey, look.” Jungkook nudged you, and you looked where he was pointing. “Fireflies.”

There were just a few buzzing around aimlessly, but you smiled. “Thank you.” You said quietly, and Jungkook raised an eyebrow at you.

“For the fireflies?”

“No,” You laughed. “For this. For caring. I don’t know. Just… Thank you.”

Jungkook leaned over, kissing you softly. “I’m just happy to see you smile. I know you’ve had a rough few weeks, but I’m always here for you.”

You nodded, giving him a small smile in return. “I know.”

“Oh, I forgot.” Jungkook reached for his bag, fumbling around in it for a second before pulling out a pink cardboard box. He handed it to you, and you opened it to see a small cupcake.

“It’s your favorite.” He said, and you laughed.

“You know, I think I have the sweetest boyfriend ever.” Jungkook laughed, and even in the faint light you could see a slight blush across his cheeks.

Notes:

I'd forgotten that I wrote this. I think it's one of my favorites <3
