Prompt: Your eyes are your soulmate’s hair color, it changes when they dye it.
Taehyung stared at his reflection and hummed in satisfaction. His outfit looked amazing, he was wearing his favorite Gucci blouse which was a dark navy color and some black slacks, his newly dyed red hair was styled perfectly, messily tousled but in a good way, the only thing wrong was his eyes.
He glared at the mirror, one of his eyes was a shocking icy gray, the other a regular dark brown. He huffed in annoyance as he searched his drawer for his contact lenses, silently cursing his soulmate while doing so. After finally finding the right color, he put the lens in and smiled at his reflection, they were both brown now, that was better.
He honestly wasn’t very bothered by his eyes anymore, he’s dealt with it almost his entire life so he has a supply of different colored contacts for when this happens. It was worse when he was younger.
He remembers when he was very young, his parents would always tell him and his brother stories of soulmates, how they were your special someone who was like a missing puzzle piece. Their hair color would be the color of your eyes, so it would be easier to find them, and when you finally did meet them, you would feel a pull towards them, you would finally feel complete .
Yoongi had scoffed and rolled his eyes while Taehyung had laughed happily and asked his parents when he would find his soulmate, his special someone. They had just smiled, patted his head and told him to be patient. Every morning he would wake up and rush to the bathroom, hoping to see his eyes be a different color. One day it finally happened.
It was early June and he was 17 years old. He woke up that morning and like any day, walked to the bathroom to brush his teeth. When he looked at the mirror though he dropped his brush in shock. His left eye was a light brown, but his right was still black. He had stared in the mirror in shock, why was only one of his eyes a different color?
He quickly ran down to his parents yelling hysterically about how “something is wrong with me” and how he wasn’t “normal”. It had taken them quite a while to calm him down and they finally told him that he most likely had two soulmates, rather than only one. He had felt better and calmed down then, instead of one person loving him, he had two, that was great right?
If it was so great, why did his parents glance at each other uneasily when they thought he wasn’t looking?
If it was so great, why did he feel jealous when looking at his brother and his soulmate being all happy?
If it was so great, why did the kids at school tease him about his different eyes?
If it was so great, why did he feel nauseous every time he looked into the mirror?
If it was so great... why didn’t it feel great?
When he graduated high school he decided to get a multitude of colored contacts to hide his heterochromia. He mostly had different shades of brown because thankfully, one of his soulmates didn’t dye his hair much, when he did dye it, it was only shades of brown, very rarely did he dye it another color, and Taehyung was fine with that. His other soulmate, on the other hand, has dyed his hair many times. His left eye has changed from brown to red to orange to pink (his eye was also once black with orange flecks but that was a dark time) and so on. His left eye was currently a grayish blue while his right eye was a coffee brown.
Focusing back on his reflection he deemed himself ready and finally left his apartment. There was a party tonight at his brother's place and he definitely wouldn’t let him skip. He sighed as he walked down the steps towards his car, Yoongi very rarely threw parties (because he absolutely hated the mess ) but this was a special occasion. His soulmate, Hoseok, had just won a dancing competition he had been practicing for months for and Yoongi wanted to throw him a congratulations party. Taehyung had teased him for being whipped but was very proud of the dancer as well. Hoseok was very hardworking and extremely sweet and Taehyung adored him. He was the perfect match for his grumpy brother who needed a little of sunshine in his life, and Hoseok was very much that sunshine.
When he arrived there was already a crowd of people, he looked around before finding a familiar mop of hair. “Yoongi!” He had thrown his arms around the male but… wasn’t Yoongi way shorter than him, and scrawnier too, so why didn’t he feel like it? He peered into the males eyes and wait, Yoongi had black eyes last time he checked so why were his eyes different colors now? One was a familiar light gray and the other a bright red.
“Pardon?” The other male looked at him with furrowed brows. He was extremely attractive with strongly defined brows, sparkly doe eyes, a sharp jawline, and brown hair slicked back.
“Uh…” Taehyung backed away timidly, “my mistake, I thought you were someone else.”
“Kookie!” A high pitched voice yelled. Taehyung and Kookie? Turned their heads towards the voice. A short (and pretty) male appeared from the crowd. His light blue hair was styled so it was falling over his forehead, he had chubby cheeks, his eyes were lined with black and crinkled as he smiled. “Who is this Jungkook?” Taehyung stared at him with wide eyes.
“I don’t know hyung, I think he just mistook me as someone else,” Jungkook replied.
“Look, I’m sorry for hugging you… I’m just gonna go.” Taehyung spun and marched into the crowd, he was already regretting coming to this party.
“Wait!” The squeaky voice yelled and Taehyung froze. The turned and faced the other male who was marching towards him. “This is going to seem weird, but are you wearing contacts?” Taehyun looked at the other male in shock before replying.
“Y-Yeah. How’d you know?” He was starting to get weirded out.
“I’m Jimin, and this is Jungkook,” the shorter male tugged the other boy forward, “and I think you’re our soulmate.”
“E-Excuse me?” he gaped at them, “How do you know?”
“Just look at our hair and eyes.” Jimin looked at him determinedly.
Taehyung looked at Jimin first, his left eye was a coffee brown, the exact same shade as his right eye, and Jungkook's hair. His left eye was a shocking red and Taehyung knew it was the same color as his hair. Jungkook’s left eye was the same red and his right eye was also that same shade of gray that was identical to Jimin's hair.
“I bet your left eye is gray,” Jimin looked at him smugly and Taehyung continued to gape, “I’m right aren’t I?”
“Yeah, you’re right.” He said hesitantly and Jungkook frowned.
“Do you not want us?” He looked at Taehyung fiercely.
“No!” He took a deep breath, “I’m just a little scared.” Jimin and Jungkook’s eyes softened at his small voice.
“Let’s go outside yeah?” He nodded and followed them out.
They leaned on the railing and stared at the night sky for a bit, indulging in the comfortable silence.
“Are you afraid of what other people will think?” He heard Jimin ask softly, “because I am too, people can be jerks, but I know together, the three of us can overcome that, right?” His tone was so fragile that Taehyung just wanted to hug and reassure him, so he did.
“Yeah,” his mumbled as he wrapped his arms around the boy, thinking about all the bullying he had to endure, “I think we can overcome that together.”
“Me too!” Jungkook shrieked as he engulfed them both, squeezing tightly. Taehyung groaned in fake annoyance, trying to stifle a laugh but it didn’t work. Soon all three of them were laughing happily.
“Wanna ditch?” Jungkook looked at them, his eyes gleaming brightly. Taehyung knew Yoongi would be pissed if he missed this party, but how could he say no to the younger’s pleading eyes?
“Sure.”
And as they walked down the street, his left hand intertwined with Jimin's and his right with Jungkook, he finally felt complete.
