-- Soul Marks
Soulmarks are not exclusive. They can manifest between individuals with deep, significant connections—whether familial ties, close friendships, or even polyamorous connections. These marks often reflect bonds that go beyond the conventional understanding of soulmates, including connections that may not always be entirely harmonious.

  • Origins and Societal Perception

Soulmarks are present in only about 50% of the world's population. These marks manifest as intricate black symbols on the skin, each unique to the individual. Their surface has a reflective, soap-film-like sheen that shifts colors to display the person’s emotions, acting as a window into their soul. With mental discipline and training, marked individuals can suppress this color change, effectively hiding their emotions. However, this skill is challenging to master and even harder to maintain under intense emotional strain.

The origin of soulmarks predates quirks, and for centuries they were viewed as mysterious and divine, with little understanding of their true purpose. When quirks began appearing, soulmarks were widely thought to be an early, universal form of a quirk—an idea that helped ease the acceptance of quirks to some extent. Over time, as quirks became fully integrated into everyday life, soulmarks were largely accepted as their own phenomenon, distinct from quirks.

  • The Yen

Your own personal soulmark. It only appears if you have a soulmate and is proof that such a bond exists, though it doesn’t reveal who that soulmate is. Yens are about the size of a bottlecap and usually appear in private areas like the hip, thigh, or lower back.

  • The Yang

The soulmark of your soulmate—it is their Yen, appearing on your body. If you have a soulmate, you’ll have both a Yang and at least one Yen.

  • The Bip

A small dot that can appear within the Yang when someone’s soulmate is in mortal danger. Bips don’t react to natural illness or memory loss, making their presence a quiet but serious warning that something is deeply wrong.
