Midoriya had to admit, he had a problem. He was a fan. He liked to be excited about something, call himself a part of a group and indulge in pretty toys that came with it. He was an avid collector too.
When he was a kid it started with heroes and trivia about them. Then merch from All Might.
When he got his quirk, it was collecting knowledge - how to be a hero, how to fight efficiently. How to be strong.
And now, in the middle of his second year, he had to admit. He was collecting people – partners in crime… fuckbuddies… loved ones. It was difficult to find the appropriate label for them.
It was an awful habit, but Midoriya couldn't help himself. He was a fan, after all.
*
It started with Kirishima. The boy was nice and supportive, and after his first serious fight with Kacchan, Kirishima sought him out and sat with him while he was healing on the bed. A nice gesture, one that was a bit foreign to Midoriya.
True, Uraraka and Iida had been really friendly with him, but this extra step? Only Kirishima did that. He clearly knew how lonely the nurse’s office was for him, how bad he felt after a victory that really tasted like losing.
“You were really awesome,” said Kirishima, smiling at him brightly. “I thought Bakugou would kill you, surely, but you evaded him. Pretty smart of you!”
“Yeah, that was really close.”
Kirishima then started talking about Crimson Riot, and that opened the tap for other fan stuff and before they realised, visiting hours were over.
Kirishima patted Midoriya's head. “Dude, you're too broken up for even a hug. Try to heal fast, alright?”
He was a treasure, and Midoriya appreciated him all the more. Nobody can help himself and fall a little in love with his bright smile and unending bravery. And when he stood up to calm down Todoroki after his threats? Midoriya was truly smitten. Nobody had ever defending him before.
Especially against someone so powerful… Oh, boy, Todoroki Shouto. Midoriya knew he would be trouble. When he invited him outside after the cavalry battle, he was fairly certain Todoroki would simply beat the shit out of him. But then surprisingly, didn't.
They talked. Midoriya was unfamiliar with healthy communication and solving problems while voicing them, but Todoroki preferred to make the situation clear to him.
Midoriya hadn’t even thought about not defending Todoroki against Endeavour, even though the man could have snapped him in two or burnt him to crisp right there. Nobody had a right to talk about Todoroki like a priced possession…
He went to the Sport Festival to win, to show himself to the world, instead… he showed Todoroki himself. He screamed his throat raw just to make him understand it was HIS quirk, nobody else’s.
That was one of the most painful afternoons of his life, but it was totally worth it. Because Todoroki changed. It was the smaller things in the beginning, like sitting closer during meals or looking at him with a soft expression on his face. Which never failed to make Midoriya’s heart beat furiously and his brain feel like cotton.
Then Todoroki rushed straight into trouble with Stain, because he thought Midoriya would be in trouble.
That was when Midoriya came to the realisation that things were different with him and his body. Power coursed through his veins, he learnt a small portion of control over OFA, but Todoroki looking at him with mad glee during the fight was the absolute best. It was rejuvenating. It was a new beginning.
*
Midoriya felt the change acutely over the next months. He knew something was up, but he didn’t know how to ask his questions. Then one day, after training as Todoroki was calmly putting his clothes away into his locker, he said what was on his mind.
“Midoriya, I think I'm quite smitten with you.”
Midoriya dropped everything he was holding, and ended up standing without any clothes - as he was barely out of the showers.
Todoroki curled his mouth upwards, looking over him with soft appreciation.
Midoriya scrambled to grab his dropped clothes and held it in front of his crotch. “T-thanks, I feel the same.”
“Good.”
And that was it. They got on their normal clothes, and left together. Outside, Todoroki linked their pointing fingers together when they walked side by side.
Midoriya felt more powerful than using his quirk at 100%.
*
Kirishima was mostly with Bakugou and the others from their squad, but Midoriya knew they were close friends. Especially after they did their internship with the heroes. Midoriya realised how much more potential was inside Kirishima who was hiding so much behind his bright smile and brave expression.
It was impossible not to lean in after a sparring exercise in the evening and let the kiss happen. It was even better than he imagined – softer, realer, perfect. He couldn’t help falling in love with him.
*
And of course, there was Bakugou Katsuki.
After their vicious fight where they both gave their 100%, their relationship shifted.
It became more violent and the rivalry intensified exponentially, but Midoriya stood in front of him as an equal.
During training he wasn't afraid to throw Bakugou to the ground. Not that it happened too often, but enough times for him to make a habit out of it.
Soon it became apparent that he was indeed more powerful than Bakugou, but even with 30%, he couldn't utilise his abilities that well. He couldn't always win.
But sometimes, he could. And that made a huge difference.
*
Just like everything in their life, the past months of sneaking around and repressed feelings culminated in a fight.
One night Midoriya was wrestling Bakugou on the carpet in the living room, in a completely platonic, friendly way. Midoriya didn't know how it started. Did he annoy Bakugou or was it the opposite? It never mattered, they just used it as an excuse to give an outlet to their pent up frustration with each other.
What mattered it that he was on the ground, Bakugou’s elbow pushing into his windpipe while Midoriya's palm was on the side of his face, pushing at him.
Todoroki sighed on the couch, surveying their scuffle impassively. There was nobody else around, mostly because they tended to get destructive during their little play-matches, and nobody wanted to get rubble on their clothes.
But Todoroki didn't mind, he was reading Modern History, while the other two was rolling around on the carpet.
They ended up close to him and he almost had to move his leg, which annoyed him to no end.
He raised one sock covered feet, and poked Bakugou in the ribs. “You're like dogs in heat,” he commented. “Battling for dominance.”
“Shut up,” barked Bakugou, really proving a point, and he slapped Todoroki's foot away. “Deku, control your boyfriend.”
Midoriya gargled in response, then punched Bakugou in the face, because that elbow was cutting in his air for impolitely long now.
They rolled away, Bakugou grasping for his neck once again, but Midoriya kneeled into his stomach.
Kirishima appeared in the room, and crawled over the back of the couch to slide next to Todoroki.
“Oh, they're at it again.” Kirishima sighed and scratched his head, then discreetly draped his arm over Todoroki’s shoulders. “Aren't you guys over this?”
“My money's still on Midoriya,” said Todoroki and put his book down. He shuffled until he was leaning his back against Kirishima’s chest, phone in hand.
“I say Bakugou. The bets are the same, right?”
“Yes,” agreed Todoroki.
“Aren't you chummy with half n’ half,” growled Bakugou. “Of course I'll win!”
Midoriya wheezed when Bakugou caught his neck, but with his legs he managed to flip their positions. He wrapped his hands around Bakugou's wrists and slammed them back to the floor, pinning him to the ground completely.
“Guess, I won,” laughed Midoriya, panting from exhilaration. He hadn't managed to put Bakugou in this position before.
But now that he did… He realised it might have been a huge mistake. He didn't know what came over him. Adrenaline crash or a moment of insanity, but he looked at Bakugou's flushed face and decided to kiss him. Maybe because he knew it was probably the only opportunity he could get away with it. Or his quirk and the adrenaline over the years fried the logical part of his brain. Who knew?
What was more surprising was that Bakugou kissed back instantly, hungrily opening his mouth to trap Midoriya’s tongue inside. Midoriya gasped into the kiss, and let go of Bakugou to grab the sides of his face and tilt his head back to deepen the kiss.
They forgot about the world, and they only came back to reality when they heard the click of a photo being taken.
Midoriya turned and stared at Todoroki. Oh, fuck, he would kill him for snogging another boy right in front of him! Bakugou wasn’t Kirishima, and yeah they agreed he was fine as an exception, but didn’t Todoroki dislike Bakugou?
“And I won the bet,” declared Todoroki with a proud smile. “Midoriya kissed Bakugou first.”
“From this angle, I saw Bakugou kiss him,” objected Kirishima. “Can you guys repeat that? I couldn’t see it clearly.”
Midoriya blinked in confusion. Bakugou used his distraction to throw him off, then sat on him once again. “Are you guys blind?! Of course I kissed him first. Like this.”
He leaned down and kissed Midoriya once more, trying to prove himself.
Bakugou pulled back and smirked at Midoriya. “Right, Deku? I kissed you first.”
Midoriya needed some more time to make sense of the situation, so he turned away from the bright red of Bakugou’s eyes that started to mesmerise him completely and looked at Todoroki, desperate for some help.
“W-what were the conditions of your bet, Todoroki?”
“I said that if you got over yourself first, I would be the first one to join your threesome.”
Midoriya felt his jaw drop. They agreed on what?!
“But because it was Bakugou, it's going to be me,” corrected Kirishima, grinning wider than a jack o’ lantern.
Midoriya looked back at Todoroki, then to Bakugou and he made his final decision. “Kacchan, I think it was a draw.”
Bakugou snorted, but relented. “Whatever makes you sleep better at night.”
*
And that was it, really. The four of them became a... Thing of sorts. And it was fine.
But then Shinsou Hitoshi got transferred to their class. And Midoriya realised he had a serious weakness for pretty boys with sad backstories.
“Midoriya, no.”
But apparently, Todoroki reached his limit. And for once in their life, Bakugou was completely in agreement with him.
“Deku, he's evil and a slob. Wants to climb the ranks by seducing you.”
“Kacchan, it's not about sex. But now that you mention it…”
“No!” said Todoroki and Bakugou in unison.
“Alright, alright, fine. You're being unreasonable, though. Right, Kirishima?”
“I'd very much like to be unpart of this conversation.” He barely looked up from his history book, hands busy with a grip trainer.
“Guys, you just need to get to know Shinsou! He's a great guy.”
“Bullshit,” said Bakugou.
“I agree,” added Todoroki.
Midoriya sighed, and let it go. There was no talking to them when they were acting so childish anyway.
*
Todoroki and Bakugou agreed to put an end to this. Midoriya was too trusting and empathetic to realise the evil lurking amongst their midst.
Todoroki was the first one to seek Shinsou out. Bakugou let him have at it for five minutes, before he decided to check up on them – Todoroki’s possessiveness knew no bound, so he should really step in before things got too rough. And five minutes was enough for that.
He absolutely didn't expect Todoroki to be kneeling in front of Shinsou, slurping him enthusiastically.
“What the fuck?!”
Todoroki pulled away and grinned at him. “Your turn is next. I need to level out the field.”
“What the fuck are you talking about, Icyhot? This was not the plan!”
“Midoriya’s niceness DNA is too powerful. I need to charge up my evil meter.”
Bakugou looked at him with confusion, then turned to Shinsou, suspecting it was the result of his quirk. But he merely shrugged too.
“I didn’t make him do it,” he said lazily, fingers carding through Todoroki’s soft hair. The gesture was strangely intimate and annoyed Bakugou to no end.
“This shit ain’t over, Evil Mouth!” he spat angrily and marched out from the gym.
*
And that was when Bakugou's true war with Shinsou started. It was an intense week of snide comments and call outs, but Shinsou put an end to it swiftly: he used his quirk on Bakugou.
He had no right to do it. Bakugou should have smacked him, instead of trying to talk some sense into him. But then Shinsou’s eyes flashed at him and he felt his control slip away.
And then Bakugou was standing in front of Midoriya’s desk with the biggest bouquet of flowers he had ever seen, as per Shinsou’s command.
Bakugou offered him the gifts, mentally gritting his teeth, and then opened his mouth to do the last part.
Saying something nice.
“I… I think you’re amazing, Deku.”
Midoriya looked at the presents with confusion, then nearly blinded Bakugou with the bright smile he gave to him. Bakugou stopped fighting Shinsou’s influence right at that moment.
“Thank you, Kacchan, that’s really nice of you!”
Shinsou smirked in the background, delighting in knowing the absolute mortification and humiliation Bakugou had to live through.
“You are really evil,” wheezed Todoroki, nudging him with his elbow. “Undeniably.” Laughter got the better of him then, laughing until tears streamed down his pretty face.
Shinsou grinned more and nodded. This was foreplay for Todoroki, he really enjoyed torturing Bakugou in front of everyone. And Shinsou enjoyed the soft look he got as a reward and the hot kisses that it promised for later.
*
Shinsou had absolutely no idea how this thing worked between the four of them, but he had no complaints. Midoriya was the sweetest guy possible. Kirishima was cool and welcomed him with a hug. Todoroki had a weird kink regarding ‘evil meters’ or whatever he meant by it.
And Bakugou was hilarious.
But when he kept on bringing chocolate and flowers to Midoriya, blatantly blaming Shinsou’s quirk for it, he had enough. Shinsou had enough problem as it was, trying his hardest to prove that his quirk wasn’t evil – he wasn’t evil, nor a villain in training, but had the noble heart of a hero.
“Hey, I have nothing to do with it,” he said, grabbing Bakugou's elbow as he caught him walking to the dining room, flaunting a box of chocolate which he intended to give to Midoriya.
“Stop ruining my life,” growled Bakugou. “Let me have this, alright?”
“Why?” asked Shinsou, looking at him with confusion. He turned to Todoroki who also shrugged.
“I'll slurp you both at the same time. Just. Don't. Blow. My. Cover!!”
*
And that was how Midoriya ended up with four boyfriends. His whole collection.
