Work Text:
“Hey, coffee time already?” Nemuri said as she walked into the teachers' lounge, opening the fridge to choose whose lunch she would steal today.
Shouta hummed, cup steaming in his hand as he stirred it slowly with his spoon, waiting for it to cool a bit. He was standing by the windows as he looked out towards the school grounds. One of the fields was currently being occupied by his own class, standing around as their teacher pointed at things around them and named them loudly in english for them to repeat back at him. Hizashi had mastered years ago the perfect volume to be heard by every student he was teaching without having his voice reach the classrooms currently occupied around him.
Nemuri walked up to stand next to him, tearing away at what looked like Snipe's curry buns. “Is it phonetics class time again?”
“Apparently” Shouta answered, taking a long sip of coffee. “They've been at it for around twenty minutes so it should be about time” He said, to Nemuri's absolute delight.
About time for what? You might be asking.
About time for Hizashi, still teaching, to point at the window Shouta was looking out of. “Husband!” He said in english, grinning widely at the giggling students as they repeated it loudly, looking up and waving at Shouta and Nemuri.
Nemuri waved back just as enthusiastically. It didn't matter they did the same routine every year, it never got old. “He's such a dummy” She said. Shouta nodded, a fond smile crossing his face as Hizashi tried to calm down the usual uproar that followed that particular moment of that particular class. “Have you told him that you love him today?” She asked him, half-joking.
Shouta stilled for a second, staring down at his coffee. He quickly put it down by the windowsill and slid the window open, half-leaning out. “Hizashi!” He shouted.
Hizashi turned around, not expecting Shouta to call his name in the middle of class—he was, above all, a no-nonsense teacher when it came to academics. He choked seeing his husband almost completely out of the window, Nemuri casually holding the back of his suit to keep him from straight out falling down.
Shouta's shout had also had the effect of silencing the children as they too stared in surprise at their stoic homeroom teacher do something so unexpected.
The public wouldn't stop Shouta though, he was a man on a mission. “I love you!” He shouted, letting himself be pulled back into the room exactly at the same time the class started screeching and screaming. Hizashi had buried his into his voice amplifier and his hands covered his quickly reddening face.
Shouta picked up his coffee very casually, as if he hadn't just broken every single perception his students had of him by loudly and casually proclaiming his love for his husband from the window of a third floor.
I mean, he'd married the man for fuck's sake. Was he supposed to pretend he wasn't head over heels in love with him?
“Thanks for reminding me” He told Nemuri, walking back to his desk now that his part in Hizashi's class was done with. He had Heroics next period so he needed to get his nap now to be ready for the uproar that would follow his little act just now. It was no secret that he was married and who the hubby was—in the school, at least; the media knew Hizashi was married but not to whom—but his class was a bunch of gossips and jumped like starving wolves on anything that would get them their fill; Ashido and Todoroki being the biggest offenders.
He slipped into his sleeping bag—yellow, to complete the apparent yellow/black combo aesthetic he and Hizashi had going on that was actually just a multiple-layers deep bee movie internal joke—and dropped on the couch to snooze the rest of the hour away.
He woke instinctively ten minutes before the bell rang, enough time to drag himself to the bathroom and wash his face before leisurely making his way to the classroom. He arrived a bit early but made his way in anyway, silently sliding the door open and closed behind him as both students and teacher ignored him, sans the few who started snickering with leftover giddiness from his window scene. It was usual of Shouta to arrive a couple minutes earlier and just lie down until the other teachers finished. It was a good way to ensure he wouldn't miss a second of class.
They didn't ignore him much longer after he cupped Hizashi's face to turn him around and peck him quickly on the lips before shuffling over to his nap corner.
Hizashi flushed so fast his hair actually started falling down from the sudden increase in temperature, the copious amounts of hairspray not a match for his heated up face.
“Uh, I” Hizashi tried to continue the sentence he'd been in the middle of saying before Shouta's, ehem, interruption, but found it a bit hard to get his brain cells to communicate. The high pitched sound Hagakure was emitting was not helping, either. “I was saying...quiz...next week?”
That must've not what he was saying before Shouta's arrival, because the class groaned and Denki slammed his entire face against his desk. If Shouta knew Hizashi defaulted to plan evaluations when he lost track of what he was saying it had nothing to do with it.
Shouta hid his smirk behind his scarf. This was just a power move on his part, a preview of what he would do if the kids didn't behave in his class the next period. There were a few minutes left for English to be over but it was clear Hizashi could no longer form full sentences so he allowed them to have a bit of in-class recess until the bell rang. The chatter picked up immediately while the Voice hero stumbled his way to Shouta.
“That's very unprofessional Shocchan” Hizashi muttered, letting his head drop on his husband's shoulder. Shouta brought a hand up to pet his hair, still falling down from his do.
“Sorry” He was so not sorry. “Do you want me to tone it down?” He asked, softer this time. He really wanted to let it out to the world each time his overwhelming love for Hizashi filled him to the brim, but he would stop if it became too much for the other.
Hizashi pouted, but shook his head. “No. I like it. But you caught me off guard just now”
“I'll try to give you a warning next time then” Shouta said, pulling away a bit to keep the last shred of reputation he had with this class. “Now, go get that monstrosity you call hairstyle back up”
Hizashi blinked at him, surprised at discovering the state of his hair. He gasped, grasping at the loose strands. “My image!” He shouted, scrambling to pick up his things and leave for the teachers' lounge. He was a few steps from the door when he suddenly backtracked and planted a loud smooch on Shouta's cheek. “Love you!” And then hurried out the door, seconds before the bell rang.
Shouta sighed, small smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he shed the sleeping bag and stepped in front of the class. They were already sitting back in their respective places and at full attention. He'd trained them well.
“Alright, we have to start planning what to do for your training during spring vacations--”
“Sensei!” Hagakure's hand –-arm? Jacket sleeve?--raised high in the air, cutting him mid-sentence. “Did you know Present Mic was gonna point at you earlier in the yard?”
Shouta stared at where he thought her face was. “Yes. We do this every year”
“Oh, oh, since you got married?” It was Ashido asking this time, hands balled into fists in front of her.
“We got married way before we started teaching, so yes” He turned towards the whiteboard. “Now, there's a mountain training camp a couple of days west of here--”
“How long have you been married?!”
“That's not—”
“Did you have a big ceremony?”
“It's none of your--”
“Who proposed?”
Shouta glared red eyes at them, effectively shutting them up all at once. Sighing as his hair fell back down, he rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Honestly” He muttered, walking behind the desk to rifle through one of the drawers. “If you think you're gonna get out of class by getting me to talk about Hizashi...” He pulled out a flash drive, grin coming back with a vengeance. “You're absolutely correct”
If the next hour was completely dedicated to going through the ton and a half of pictures of Hizashi in everyday life Shouta had collected over the years, it was way too cute for anyone to complain.
(They did, however, forget that Aizawa lived with them in the dorms, and was ruthless in pulling an impromptu make up class right there in the kitchen after dinner)
