I always said I wanted to die looking up at the stars in my lover's arms.
So laying here, resting my head on your lap while you cradle my body, trying to give me warmth, trying to restore the life pooling out of my body with the blood, really
made
me
happy.
The quiet snow falling from the sky and landing on the stones as I walked was quite relaxing.
Katsuki, my boyfriend, was out on the job, being a hero like always,
my chest swelled with pride and adoration.
I sighed and watched my breath disappear, it really was cold.
"It's a crazy night, folks at home! Everyone's scrambling inside to hide from the hero, Ground Zero's, explosions!"
My boyfriend's hero name caught my attention quickly as I passed by a tv broadcasting the news.
Just as I stopped to watch, I heard a very loud explosion that I knew had to be Katsuki's.
So I ran, I ran to help him. He probably had it under control, and everything would've been fine. But my heart was pounding and I had to go and help him. It was in my blood after all.
"What are you doing here!?" He screamed as I dropped in and punched a villain that was approaching him from behind.
"Well, I couldn't help but hear you fighting from far away! I decided to come to check out what's happening!" I shouted to him over the noise of combat.
We went back to back, fighting everyone advancing with evil intent,
it felt nice to fight alongside him.
Until...
It all happened so fast. My brain and eyes could barely keep up.
That horrible sound... the squelch of flesh and blood and guts.
Unbearable pain.
A villain had thrown a pole with their quirk
and it went straight through my chest...like a bullet.
I gasped and my shaking hands rose to the now hole in my chest.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Katsuki frozen, not fighting, just staring at me.
The pain... was so unendurable. I think I fell to the ground.
After that, I had only heard explosions as I wheezed for air.
"Eijirou!" The desperation in Bakugou's voice as he ran to me made the pain in my chest ache slightly more, but it also made my heart beat faster.
Bakugou slid on his knees once he reached me, "Oh, Bakugou, you're here."
A whisper, like the wind on a cold night; like tonight.
"You idiot, shitty-hair!
I've been here the whole time..." He mumbled the last part between his lips.
I chuckled, "Oh, that's right, sorry man."
"Don't apologize to me!" He screamed slightly and I could see the tears well up in the corners of his scrunched eyes.
I raised my shaky hand to wipe the tears that were slowly falling, just like his mask. "You're crying, Katsuki."
"I'm, I'm not." He started with a fire in his throat but it died out as quick as he had started talking.
"Whatever you say." I coughed as I finished, blood gurgling in my throat and mouth.
He, of course, had to notice this.
"Don't die on me, Ei." He tried to make his voice more powerful,
I'm pretty sure he failed.
A raspy sigh came out of my throat.
It had its perks, dying that is,
I turned my face over and buried my face into his thigh.
I'd probably never be able to do this (again) if I had not been bleeding out.
and that's where the tears fell.
"N-no, Ei, I'm sorry, I'm being selfish! Don't die on us..."
Us, did he mean our relationship, our future?
He sounded so unlike my bakugou, this was him showing vulnerability at its purest form.
"Don't d-die on us, huh?" I whispered, hair down and in my face, the gaping hole in my chest seemed to be slowly tearing apart.
"That's a first..." I laughed.
"Please...!
You're the only one..."
My eyes trailed up him until I landed on his orbs, "The only...?" I asked weakly.
"The only one I can-"
He paused and took a deep breath.
"The only one I can truly love! You're my soulmate, EI!
I paused, I paused breathing, I paused seeing, I paused thinking.
"Don't...
Don't say things like that."
And the tears came back, this time a bloody sob broke out of its confinement in my chest.
Bakugou buried his face in my neck as I looked up at the stars with blurry eyes.
"Eijirou! I don't think I can live without you."
"Katsuki... please, I don't want you dead because of me."
He looked up and into my eyes. His lip trembling and his eyebrows furrowed. His tears kept dropping on my face.
'drop, drop, drop'
If I do live, that sound will be ingrained in my mind.
"Katsu..." I hacked up more blood mid-sentence, right onto his hero costume. "Sorry..."
"I don't care about that shit right now!" He yelled, and I smiled, that's my Katsuki.
"Katsuki, I don't want to die, and I really don't want to leave you.
I'm in love with you, just so you know."
"Idiot... you tell that to me every day."
His tears just come out faster,
"Stop, stop crying... am I really that important to you that you'd cry.?"
His face goes dark, and I realize my mistake.
"Eijirou..."
Tears slip out of my eyes and onto his pants,
"Yeah?"
I ask as I put my face back into his thigh.
"If you ever say something like that again, I'll kill you myself."
I smile, "Sure Katsuki, but, I don't think you have to worry about that."
He sobs, and it sounds ragged, like nails dragging up his throat as he cries.
"You're so cold..." He mumbles after he's done with his sobbing episode.
And it's true, I was so focused on him, that I didn't even apprehend the condition of my own state.
I felt raw and my fingertips felt numb, and my toes too.
It was snowing out after all. But my body felt just as cold as the snow falling down from the clouds up in the somewhat starry sky.
The ground was red, literally, and every single speck of white that touched the blood surrounding us, melted. Maybe the heat was leaving with my blood. I chuckled.
"You're not allowed to laugh in this situation. You laugh everywhere else, you laugh to make others happy and to brighten others days, but you can't laugh here, okay?" He sounded numb, and his voice broke multiple times while talking.
I've been selfish it seems, leaving him here out in the cold, surrounded in unknown territory where he could get attacked by a villain at any moment.
"Sorry, Katsuki.
Listen, I love you a lot. I love you so much that it hurts my heart," At that, I looked down at my chest and its gaping hole, "Well..."
I shook my head slowly.
"I just... love you a lot, okay? I just wish I could've said it more.
I wish" I coughed again, more blood coming out with it.
"I wish I could've..."
I took a shuddering breath,
"I wish"
I gasped trying to breathe, it was exhausting just to talk, and I could feel the energy-sapping out of me. My heart slowed and I start to panic before a calm settles over me. I'm just too tired to be anxious.
"No, Eijirou! Come on, just wait for a little more! The paramedics are on their way. All you need to do is hold on!"
I feel my burning tears roll down my cheeks.
"I-I...I"
"C'mon... COME ON, SHITTY-HAIR!"
He screams and the burning throughout my body dulls.
I love you,
and I wished I could've spent my life with you.
Is what I wanted to say before.
But my throat closed up, and my vision blurred.
I probably lasted so long with a hole in my chest because of my quirk.
But it was time,
I wish it wasn't.
My ears are were ringing,
but I knew my Katsuki was screaming.
I knew it because I know him.
His eyes are scrunched up and his nails are tearing the skin on his palms. So I can tell.
Because he's my boyfriend, and, as he called us, my soulmate.
And that was it, I couldn't hear the screaming, the sobs that wracked his body.
I didn't see how the paramedics had to drag him away from my body. Nor how they had to tranquilize him because of his explosions going off involuntary.
I didn't see, I didn't see my soulmates reaction, because, by that time, I was already gone.
I always did say I wanted to die under the stars in my lover's arms. I just didn't know it'd be this soon.
I'm sorry, Katuski.
