“Wasn’t expecting to see you again so soon. At least not alive.” Angel says as he senses Lindsey behind him.
“When I returned the files, they offered me a promotion.”
Angel turns to face the young lawyer. “And?”
“I walked out. After today, I can’t work there anymore.”
“You seriously walked out.”
“Why is that so hard to believe? Not everyone who works there is evil.”
“You sent Faith after me.”
“Wasn’t my idea,” Lindsey protests, but still looks down in shame. “And that person was just terminated.”
“The blood that was on your face earlier?”
“He was planning to go to another firm – take clients with him. I still don’t know why they let me live.”
“They underestimated you. Heads will probably roll for that.”
“One will. Quite literally.”
“What are you going to do now?” Angel asks.
“I have no idea. I made sure they know I copied the files, but the senior partners could still easily have me killed.”
“Work for us.”
“What?” Lindsey asks, surprised.
“Work for us. With the files, we can stop things before they happen.”
“It’s only a small fraction of them though.”
“It’s better than nothing. Besides, I’m sure there’s a lot more you could give us from memory.”
“Well yeah, but I don’t always know the entire picture. Which, if you’ll recall, is why I almost got killed this morning.”
“It’ll still help. Or you can walk away and wait in your apartment for them to come kill you.”
“When do I start?” Lindsey asks. “And I already cleared out my apartment. I know I can’t go back there.”
“You start tomorrow. And I have a couch you can use until we find someplace safe for you to live.”
