Cordelia is surprised when she gets to the office. She had figured Lindsey would be long gone, not rummaging through the fridge half asleep. “Why are you still here?” she asks him.
Lindsey looks up at her, startled. “Not safe to leave the building,” he answers blearily. “Wolfram and Hart prefers their ex-employees to be dead.”
“You quit? Seriously?”
Lindsey sighs. “Why does everyone find that so hard to believe?”
“Because you’re evil.”
“Just because the firm is evil doesn’t mean all the employees are.”
Cordelia eyes him warily. “Why the hell did you work for them then?”
“I didn’t know they were evil when they hired me. And like I said they don’t like leaving former employees alive.”
“Yet they let you live,” Wesley observes from the doorway.
“Only because my boss thought I’d be a good little lapdog and take the promotion he offered me. He’ll be dead by lunch.”
“And you’re next on the list,” Wesley deduces.
“Which is why he doesn’t leave the building without me,” Angel says as he emerges into the office.
“Are we simply playing bodyguard or are you going to make yourself useful around here?” Cordelia asks.
“Since the boss won’t let me go outside I can only do so much, but yeah I plan to pull my weight around here.”
“Welcome to the team,” Wesley says, placing a hand on Lindsey’s shoulder. “Just avoid the fridge downstairs.”
