"Quit zoning out." Jotaro scolded, gently hitting his hand on my head.
I startled, and once calm pouted at the tall jackass. "Aha, don't be rude, JoJo!" Kakyoin scolds gently as he laughs. "Yeah don't be rude! I wasn't even zoning out anyway." I defended, and Jotaro quirked a brow before responding. "Oh? Then what was I saying before?" "You, uh...It, was about...class?" I attempted, averting my eyes. "Idiot." He scolded again, before turning heel and briskly walking off. I switched my attention to Kakyoin. "Uh, what was he saying?"
"He was asking you out." He said, a mischievous smile on his face. "What?!" I asked, panicked. Kakyoin chuckled, "Just kidding. Hope I didn't disappoint you too much. Though he was asking if you'd like to spend time with him after school." He explained, I shot a playful glare at him, and hoped I didn't sound disappointed. "Aw man, he actually wants to hang with me and I practically blow him off." "You could catch him at lunch. Perhaps the offer will still stand" He offers, encouragingly. "Oh! Good idea! I was hoping to see him at lunch anyway...I might as well bring it up then!" I said, and started off to class, calling a goodbye behind my shoulder.
Gently pushing the heavy door to the roof open, I look around, spotting the Kujo man sitting close to the edge. "Hey, JoJo!" I greeted, making my way to his side and plopping down, turning to grin up at him. He just nodded in his usual stoic greeting. "I was looking for you! I, uh, made you lunch today." I said, pulling out a bento box from my bag and handing it out shyly to him.
"You never bring anything for lunch, so I figured I might as well bring you something. It'd be so totally lame if you died of undernourishment or something." Why was I talking so much. I'm just running my mouth like a fool. He smiled, a very small but very genuine smile, and took the box from my hands. "Good grief," he muttered his all to familiar phrase, "you don't have to take care of me like this." "Oh, but I like to! I mean, I don't actually mind at all. It's kind of nice!" I exclaim, and he let out a dry chuckle.
A few minutes pass by as we eat our lunch in silence. Every so often I glance over at Jotaro to try and gauge his opinion on the homemade lunch.
His expression remained ever the same, resting bitch-face look I was so used to, but he ate it all with no complaints so I suppose I could take it as a win nonetheless.
"So...Jotaro." I began, setting my lunch down to give him my full attention. He continued eating, but his gaze moved slowly from the school yard to my face. "I was wondering if, maybe, you'd like to hang out after school today!" I grinned, a lot more confident now than I was when I first started talking. It wasn't uncommon for us to hang out outside of school, but it usually isn't Jotaro who attempts to initiate it, so I still felt nervous knowing I accidentally shut down his attempt earlier. He continued staring at me a moment longer, thinking over my request before turning back to his lunch and responding, his voice slow and tone slightly hesitant. "There's a cafe near my home. I think you'd like it, so we should go." "That sounds great, I'd love to go!" I beamed, Jotaro's eyes flitted back to my face a final moment, his cheeks flushed a warm color. I nudged his shoulder gently with mine and playfully added on. "Only if you treat me, though!"
"Good grief. Whatever you want, idiot." He sighed, I giggled at his slightly dramatic response, and thought excitedly about me and Jotaro's after school plans.
I waited outside the school for Jojo, he was currently surrounded by girls as he stepped out the school doors, and not wanting to get in the way I resigned myself to waiting for him to shoo them off.
He looked around before noticing me, and heading directly for me, ignoring the girls desperately trying to get his attention. "Are you ready?" He asked curtly, and I nodded equally as uncomfortable. "Oh, Jojo! Are you leaving already?" "Don't go Jojo! Wouldn't you like to spend time together outside of school?" The girls cooed and pleaded. Though I admittedly felt uncomfortable around them, I also felt deeply sorry for his fanclubs. Pining after someone who would never give them the time of day, spending so much of their lives lusting over him only for him to brush them off coldly, or ignore them completely. He shook them off his arms, glaring down at one standing directly in front of him, begging for him to come with her for a date, as she refused to back down, I gulped nervously and steeled myself for the boldest, and most mortifying thing I'd do all day.
"Ah, I'm sorry miss," I began, getting her and all the other fans attention. "I'm afraid Jojo is going on a date with me today." I smiled, trying to seem a little more confident than I was in my words. Said Kujo startled at my announcement, an almost embarrassed expression dancing across his features for merely a moment, before he returned to his usual steely expression.
"Is this true, Jojo?!" She cried, looking at the man with shock and heartbreak. "Yes." He responded simply, "So get lost, all of you!"
The girls whimpered and scattered off, whispering among themselves as they left.
"Um, sorry for that." I apologized, expression sheepish as we began our walk. "You just seemed a little...cornered, so I thought I'd try to help."
"Thanks." He nodded, looking slightly amused. I decided to change the topic, hoping to shake my lasting embarrassment over my claim.
"So the cafe we're heading to...Is it one you go to often?" I asked, curious. He didn't seem like the cafe type, but he was often reserved, so it was possible he just kept that to himself. "Never been." Was his quick and short response. "How'd you hear about it?" I questioned. He glanced at me, his expression almost soft, and just hummed slightly. I was annoyed at his dodging of the innocent question, but it wasn't urgent information, so I decided not to push it.
As we arrived, I noticed it was in fact a very cute little place, and not like anything I'd imagine Jotaro to suggest at all.
The decor was in soft pinks and browns, and hearts littered the cafe walls. the tables had fancy doilies, and soft music filled the small building.
"It's cute!" I commented, smiling as I took in the lovely aura. Jotaro nodded in acknowledgement, and stepped towards the counter to order.
I ordered a nice warm hot chocolate, and a slice of strawberry cake to go along with it. Jotaro got a plain black coffee and, after some prompting from me, a berry tart.
We sat down at a table sitting next to a window, and just as I was about to start a conversation, thinking he would never take the initiative, he proved me entirely wrong by beginning to speak. "How...is school going?" He asked, shifting his eyes around a moment nervously. "Oh it's good! Haha in fact, just the other day in class..." I began, launching into a story about a friend of mine, purely ecstatic that Jotaro was interested enough to ask about class himself, instead of me having to lead the conversation fully.
"And how's your mom doing?" I prodded, taking a sip of my drink. "She's fine. Annoying as usual." "Oh come on, don't be like that! She's like, the sweetest lady in the world." He pouted slightly before continuing his relentless complaining, "She's always bothering me to bring you back over. You're practically her favorite person in the world." I grinned, brimming with pride and happiness. "Don't tell Kakyoin that! We both know he treats her more like a mother than even you do." I joked, a laugh edging its way somewhere into my sentence. "Good grief, I'm sure he's in more family photo's than me." "Your mom is close to crowning him son of the month!"
It was nice laughing and joking with Jotaro so much, it was rare for him to be so open and talkative, so I cherished every moment that he was.
Looking down to my neglected slice of cake, I take the chance of a lull in the conversation to pop a bite into my mouth, nearly melting at the light, fluffy taste of the cream. I looked back to Jotaro again, and scooped another slice unto the fork, offering it to the quiet man. "You should try this, Jojo!" He looked between my face and hand, a subtle red slowly seeping onto his face. "Good grief..." He sighed, before leaning forwards slightly and taking the fork into his mouth, I gulped and averted my eyes from his. I hadn't even realized how intimate the gesture could be until I was in the moment. Pulling back, he in turn got a bite sized amount of his tart on his fork, and held it up to my mouth, nodding in a "go on" gesture, his cheeks still tinted. I could practically feel the blush on my face as I slowly opened and closed my mouth around the fork, tasting the sweet and flavorful tart. Pulling back I gave a bashful grin. "It's super tasty!" I said, trying to shake off how flustered the whole exchange made me.
"I'll walk you home." Jotaro suggested, as we stepped outside the cafe. "Huh? That makes no sense! We're already so close to your place, I might as well just walk you to your home!" I insisted, cocking my head to the side at Jotaros impractical offer. He huffed slightly, "But that's not how it's- fine." He cut himself off, and turned in the direction of his house, walking quickly ahead. "Slow down, Jojo! My legs aren't as long as yours." I complained, sprinting slightly to catch up to the fast man.
"Thank you for taking me there." I said, a large smile on my face, my eyes bright with admiration and appreciation. "Whatever," he responded, brushing off my thanks and tugging his hat over his eyes. "it was nice."
"It was!" I exclaimed, elated that he enjoyed his time with me.
As we got closer to his house, I prepared myself to say goodbye, and hyped myself up for my second bold move of the day. "We should go there again sometime," I began, stopping my walk outside the gates to his home. He nodded in response. "I suppose this is where I leave you, Jojo," I swallowed nervously before concluding. "This was a great date!" I said, and leaned up on my tippy toes to place a barely there kiss on his soft cheek, pulling back just in time to see his shocked red face, I turned in to opposite direction and hurried off, waving a final time.
My first date with Jotaro...maybe Kakyoin wasn't wrong with his words earlier.
