Work Text:

It was a friday evening out with the girls at Gangnam district. You were touring the multiple fashion shops, looking for something new to wear for Friday club night, as it was tradition.

The colorful, lively streets were always bustling with people. It was a happy place for you to go, even after a year of having moved in to Seoul, you didn’t get used to it. What excited you more than anything were the various street performances that would take place here or there. It was a new experience every single time.

Behind you, your girl friends gushed over their purchases. “Hyunjin, I’m so jealous! You snatched the last small fit of that gorgeous little black dress, I’m so mad.”

“Ah, Minwoo… don’t be. What’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine right?” The petite blonde smirked. “I’ll let you borrow it sometime as long as you lend me that pair of designer boots you bought last month.”

“What? No fair!” The tall brunette complained. In the background Hyunjin laughed and urged you to hurry to the next shop that was on sale. A race to the store, the first one gets picking rights, of course.

You already had all you needed for tomorrow though. So there really was no reason to rush as Hyunjin’s fading voice urged you to, when you drifted to a group of squealing girls huddling near a street performance. Maybe it was the booming beat of the music, or your bubbling curiosity, but you were driven there as if by a magnetic pull. It was a curious sight to see so many girls gathered at that particular spot, when a popular designer store at your left was on sale.

As you tried to squish your way between the wall of feminine bodies you wondered who the performers on the other side were, to gather such a crowd. Probably a group of soon-to-debut trainees, or maybe a popular street dance group. You came to Gangnam often enough to know the popular street dance groups around. However, sometime during summer break, new faces started showing up in advance for what you heard was an annual street dancing competition in Seoul. A big event that brought aspiring talent from all around the country. Important managers from renowned entertainment industries were usually present at the hunt of new talent.

The feeling of finally breaking through the mass of bodies, and meeting the spectacle at the other side… It was probably that of a same nature that talent hunters felt when making a groundbreaking discovery. It felt as if your were a talent hound driven by the fragrance of someone’s blood, sweat and tears. Someone’s entire life of dedication and hard work.

In the centre of the crowd three men danced to the same song, same dance moves, but portrayed different styles and performance of movement. The young man in the middle with dark brown hair seemed to lead the choreography, as he stood out in the current formation more than the other two, equally talented, boys.

Don’t wanna fall in love, oh oh

Love feels just like a knife, yeah

They danced with sharp, bouncy movements that required amazing body control. It seemed to fit the lead dancer’s style better as he stood out from the other two for his impeccable performance. Your eyes followed with eagerness the forms his slender arms traced into thin air as he bounced around with perfect tempo. The cherry to the cake though, was the show-stopping smile that adorned his handsome features as he did so. The sincere joy emanating from him as he flowed with the song. Your heart nearly flipped over itself at the sight.

In a fluid movement, his body spun around on itself as if by his own accord and mind, his head following. Every movement from head to toe, flowed naturally from him and you were mesmerized by it. Did he even have bones, to begin with?

You make the knife feel good

So good, so good

I’ll fight you till the end

You watched in delight as he bounced around in circles, smiling like a brilliant ball of sunshine. The formation twirled and changed the guy at his left to the centre, a blonde boy in a blue shirt. Their dynamic excited you as you watched them jump and dance around, changing their formation again. Positioning the main dancer and the other boy at the front. It was a joy watching them dance so animatedly, like there was nothing else on earth that could make them as happy.

The beat seemed to follow their lively movements, and not the other way around. By the ending of the performance it was difficult to deny that the man in the centre had totally stolen your heart with a smile. As the song came to an end with a couple of beats that followed the movements of the boys, as they brought their arms up and then positioned themselves into their final stance. Turned sideways, the man in the centre brought a hand to his hip and another to his chin, winking and pointing at you.

It was obviously, a choreographed part of the dance, but you couldn’t really help the stutter of your heart or the blushing of your cheeks. As the beat died in the background, you felt like your eyes connected for the longest of heartstopping moments. He was panting lightly, the residual intensity of his passionate performance glinted in the dark of his eyes. And you were digging it so much.

People broke into applause, and he did the one thing that would flip your world over. The most stunning, heart-shaped smile spread across his face and illuminated his handsome features. God, you were gone for good.

A smile of your own pulled at the corners of your lips. As you cheered for the trio, a wishful feeling creeped into your heart. I wish I could dance with him someday. You imagined meeting him in a different setting, maybe tonight’s dance club, and dancing both your hearts out to a lively beat. Gleaming in sweat under strobe lights, laughing and smiling until your cheeks hurt and his beautiful smile would be imprinted forever in your mind. You wondered what his laugh sounded like, bit your lip as you watched the young man wave and bow to his audience.

A gentle hand took grasp of your arm, startling you out of your daydreaming. “Y/N! We were looking for you like crazy! We have to go now or we won’t have enough time to get changed and ready for tonight.”

You turned to see the impatient look on your best friend’s face and staggered for a second. You really wanted to stay and watch the boys perform again, but it seemed you had caught their last performance for today. Only luck would say if you would see them again, see him again. Your gaze fleeted back to the handsome, young dancer and met his own. His smile grew as your eyes connected and you knew luck would be on your side. You left Gangnam with your friends and hoped for luck to reunite you tonight, or some other day on that very same street.

That night at the club you spotted a familiar mop of dark brown hair, and stunning smile. You approached him with the booming of the loud music ringing in your ears, and the thumping beat of your heart crashing against your ribs. He met your gaze and smiled with the promise of a spectacular night.

Notes:

This is the final piece of the series, yay!! Writing this was stressing at first because I was blocked but the final result made me really happy. Really, loving Hoseok makes me so happy. Writing like this about him (like I’m totally whippedt, which I am) makes me super giddy. The dance performance described is the one Jimin, Hoseok and Jungoo prepared for the Home party.
