"Master! I've been waiting for you! You've really helped me and Mike get so far and I want to repay you by giving you and your boyfriend tickets to our next show!" Chouno announced as Saiki walked out of the school gate.
'My. . . boyfriend?' Saiki projected his confusion.
"It's okay, Master! Mike and I won't judge you. We already know you and that white haired boy are dating, so you shouldn't feel like you have to hide it from us!" The stage magician said in a comforting voice.
Before Saiki could respond, Chouno pushed the tickets into his hands. "I hope to see you both there! It's Saturday night at 7:00 pm!" Then, he ran off.
And so, Saiki stood there debating what to do. He could just not go, but he doesn't mind watching Chouno's shows. They usually turn out pretty interesting, but if he goes, he has to bring Kaido with him. Spending the time with Kaido wouldn't be bad, but then Chouno and Mike will think they were right. He could go and just say Kaido had to do something, but then they would still think he and Kaido were dating.
"Oh, hey, Saiki! I thought you already left." Kaido said as he ran up behind the psychic.
'I was about to.'
"How about we talk together? It's been a while since we've spent time together, just the two of us."
Kaido smiled at him. I wonder if there's a reason behind that. Is Saiki avoiding me?
'Sure.' Saiki projected. 'Way to make a guy feel bad. Maybe I should just invite him to the show with me. It isn't like I see Chouno enough for it to actually be a problem.'
They started off on their walk home and made it to the point where they have to split up before Saiki made up his mind. 'Kaido? I have two tickets to a magic show this weekend if you want to come with me.'
Kaido's face immediately lit up. "Really? I'd love to! When is it?"
'Saturday at 7:00. I can be at you house at about 6:00 and then we can take the train.'
"I can't wait! This is going to be so fun!" Kaido grinned. Is this a date? No! Don't think like that! I'll just go and have a good time. I don't think he means it as a date.
They said goodbye and went their separate ways.
The rest of the week passed by in a blur. It felt like Saturday came by twice as fast as usual, but as soon as Saiki realized he had to wait until 6:00 to get Kaido, the wait seemed twice as long.
When 6:00 finally arrived, Saiki used clairvoyance to see the front of Kaido's house, and, seeing no one, teleported to pick up his not-date.
Kaido opened the door almost immediately after Saiki knocked. "Hey, Saiki! I'm so excited for this!" The white haired boy smiled. Wow! Saiki looks amazing. I really wish this was a date.
Saiki was wearing a charcoal gray cardigan over a white button up shirt paired with a pair of black slacks and black dress shoes. 'You ready to go?' He asked. 'Kaido looks pretty good, too.'
The pretend hero had on a white v neck under a leather jacket with a pair of dark blue jeans and black shoes.
"Yeah! Let's head for the train station."
The train ride was uncomfortable. It was packed, and they had to stand pressed close together for the whole thirty minute ride.
Saiki and Kaido finally reached their stop, and as soon as they exited they train, neither of them could hold back a sigh of relief.
"Okay, which way are we going now, Saiki?" Kaido asked, for too enthusiastic after the train. This is really happening. Saiki and I are going to spend all evening together!
'It's not too much farther.' Saiki led the way.
It was about an eight minute walk. They arrived at 6:53.
"Hello! Do you two have tickets for the show?" An upbeat woman asked them.
Saiki showed her the tickets.
"Alright! My colleague will show you to your box. Have a good evening!" She flashed a smile at them. Mr. Chouno's personal box? I wonder how he knows them.
"Please, right this way." A man gestured for them to follow him.
The walk was quick. The worker told them that everything in the box was included with their tickets.
"Wow! This is really nice, Saiki!" Kaido had an amazed look on his face.
Saiki took in the set up if the room. There was a small loveseat in place of chairs. A coffee table was directly in front of that. There was a small wall surrounding the box. Behind the loveseat, against the same wall as the door, was a counter with a sink, mini fridge, and microwave. There were cabinets installed under the counter. Kaido was already rifling through them and pulling out anything of interest.
"Let's gather up some snacks and stuff before the show starts. I don't want to miss anything!" He had a goofy smile on his face. This is so nice, but it's a little intimate. I wonder if Saiki really did want this to be a date.
The psychic moved closer to the counter to see what Kaido had rounded up. There was a few bags of popcorn, a bowl, some cans of pop and coffee, and various boxes of candy. Kaido was still looking through the cabinets, so Saiki put the first bag of popcorn in the the microwave.
They barely finished the popcorn before the lights dimmed.
"Oh man, we need to hurry! It's starting." Kaido poured one bag of popcorn in the bowl and just grabbed the other one. The managed to sit down just as the announcer started talking.
"Welcome to our wonderful theater! Tonight, I'd like to present Uroku Chouno!"
The curtains lifted and Chouno started his act. He got more laughs than most magician's would get, but that's expected of him.
The show lasted around two hours with a half hour intermission.
"Have a great night, everyone! And don't forget- Tres Bien!" Chouno called out before he bowed and the curtain fell.
"Wow! I had a really great time tonight, Saiki! Thanks for taking me with you!" Kaido smiled and fidgeted with his clothes slightly. We still have a long train ride, but it feels like the nights already over! What should I do? I don't want it to end yet.
A knock sounded on the door before it was pushed open. "Master! Did you and your boyfriend enjoy the show?" Chouno asked.
'Shoot. I should have seen this coming. There was no way Chouno was going to let us leave without talking to us first.' Saiki thought.
Chouno made a face of realization. "I get it master! Mike and I still have a long way to go before we can reach your level! I'll be sure to keep practicing!" He ran off to tell Mike.
Kaido seemed like he short circuited. Boyfriend? Date? Saiki? BOYFRIEND?
'Chouno gave me two tickets because he thinks you are my boyfriend.' Saiki tried to clear up the interaction.
"Why would he think that?" Kaido's voice got higher like it does when he's embarrassed or sad.
'I don't know. He ran off before I could ask.'
"I see." Kaido had a sad look on his face. What was I thinking? Of course this wasn't a date. It only looked that way because Saiki's magician friend thinks were dating. There's no way Saiki would want to date me.
Saiki frowned. He didn't quite understand why, but Kaido thinking that made him want to prove the white haired boy wrong. 'Is something wrong?' He asked.
"N-no! I'm fine." Kaido looked close to tears. Why do I feel like crying? Do I like Saiki? He's a good friend and a nice guy, but do I like him like that?
'That just makes me feel worse! Kaido thinks I'm a good guy, but I let him think this was a date the whole time just because- because- why did I do that? I'm sure I could have thought of something to make him stop, or we could have just not gone. Do I like Kaido like that?' Saiki sighed lightly. Kaido had let one of his tears escape. He reached forward and brushed it away with his thumb. 'You're not fine. You can tell me what's wrong.'
Kaido stared at him, shocked and his tears were falling freely. "I- I let myself think this was a-a date!" The crying was hindering his speech. "I don't kn" he choked slightly. "ow why, but I thought you were asking me out, the- then he called me your boyfriend, and it was su- so nice to hear. Then you s- You said-" He sobbed.
'Kaido, I want yo to be my boyfriend.' Saiki declared.
Kaido stilled. Tears were still flowing, but his breathing returned to normal and he stopped sobbing. "Really?"
'Yes. I thought you didn't like me back, so I just acted like this was an outing between friends.' He grabbed a napkin from the counter, wet it from the sink, and started to wipe at Kaido's face, getting rid of the tear tracks.
"So, this really was a date?" Kaido looked so happy in that moment that there was no way Saiki could have said no even if he wanted to.
'Yes.'
And like many good first dates end, when they got of the train back to their town, Saiki walked Kaido home and gave him a kiss on his door step.
