Work Text:
”Babe where's my face guard?”
Eijirou was sure he had left it on the dresser, right next to his cologne. He could have been remembering it wrong, but he could have sworn once he got home from yesterday's patrol he placed it right there. That's what he did after every shift, so why would it be any different yesterday?
”Oo mean or onage ask?”
Eijirou snorted, smiling at his reflection as his boyfriend stuck his head out of the bathroom. The mop of dark green hair stuck out in all directions. His eyes were still tired, toothbrush hanging out of the corner of his mouth. His worn Red Riot sleep shirt just about swallows him whole, even with the thick muscles he sported all over.
Eijirou turned to look at Izuku better and smiled wider at how cute he looked. ”Come again?”
Izuku smirked at him with a foamy mouth. He ducked out of sight to spit the lingering toothpaste out, then poked his head back out respond properly. ”I said, do you mean your bondage mask?”
That little shit.
Eijirou lunged for him. He crossed the floor in seconds, wrapping his arm around Izuku’s shoulders and assaulting him with tickles. ”Oh yeah, you think that's funny? I'll have you know I have the coolest costume in the top ten, so I don't wanna hear it, mister bunny.”
The number one pro hero shrieked in delight, laughing out loud as he flailed. Izuku kicked his legs in an attempt to get himself free, swinging his arms at Eijirou’s middle. Izuku was so pretty when he laughed. One of the many things Eijirou would put on a list of things he loved about him. After a solid minute of unrelenting tickle torture, Eijirou let his victim go.
”Ok ok, I won't insult your manly hero costume anymore.” Izuku puffed up his chest and pouted, eyes shining with playful mirth as he taunted his boyfriend further.
”Uh huh, I'll believe that when I see it. Seriously though babe, where is my face guard?” The red-headed hero came to hold his lover against himself, a warm smile on his lips as Izuku returned the affection by running his fingers in his hair.
”I would guess it's over by the lamp,” he smirks. ”It's hard to kiss you with that dumb thing on your face.”
Oh that's right, when he got home yesterday he didn't get very far past the door before Izuku had attacked him. He would complain, but Eijirou wasn’t fond of lying. On the contrary, it was very nice to have his boyfriend climb him like a tree when he gets home. The patrol yesterday had been upset with one petty theft after the other. By the end of it, his Red Riot costume was rumpled and his hair disheveled, and that happened to be One of Izuku’s favorite looks on Eijirou. Eijirou scrunches his nose with a smile, remembering fondly at how Izuku had thrown it to the side once the bed had been found.
”Ring a bell?” Izuku giggled in his arms, kissing him once before slipping from his grasp. ”You better hurry or you're gonna be late for your patrol, and then I’ll be late for mine.”
The young hero laughed before stumbling his way to the bedside where he did indeed find his discarded face mask. Last night had been more than wonderful. When he shut his eyes Eijirou could see the soft light from the window lighting up the side of Izuku’s face, his hair tousled from their actions. Face flushed, lips parted, breath heavy. He looked so beautiful like that. Raw and open, exposed heart and soul. He could remember the moments they spent after holding each other, whispering about their day and their goals. Dreams, plans, endless I love you’s, all of it bared in the dark just between them.
Eijirou slipped over to the dresser and dug around in the back of his sock drawer. A small black velvet box tucked in a bundle of fuzzy Christmas socks he had for the holidays. He wants every night to end like last night. To have mornings like this, forever. He stashes the box in his gear bag and finishes the last of gathering his hero suit. Tonight. He will pop the question tonight after work. He can pick Izuku up from work, bring him up to their favorite lookout and ask him there at sunset.
“Alright, I’m heading out!” Eijirou calls out behind him, picking up his breakfast smoothie off the counter. Izuku catches him by the elbow before Eijirou is able to get completely out the door, a pout on his lips.
“Oh right, I forgot something.” Eijiro grins, turning around to give his lover a soft goodbye kiss. ”Bye babe.”
”Stay safe Ei. I'll see you after work.” Then, with one more lingering kiss, Eijirou escaped through the doorway, waving to his lover on his way down the hall.
He definitely wanted more mornings like this.
~
So much for an easy patrol.
He only had one more hour. Just one more before he could have gone to get Izuku, but no. Two villains just had to pick today of all damn days to enact some grand ass scheme. God, I hang out with Bakugo way too much, he thought to himself, he noticed his inner monologue becoming more and more colorful after every visit.
There had been an explosion on the east side of his patrol grounds. A business tower in the middle of construction had been brought down into rubble. Across all screens in Japan, two twin faces were taking over, claiming that the government had kept them apart since birth due to the potential risks of their combined quirks. As a result, they never knew each other until years later.
The villains, Inmotus and Dedisco, ended the broadcast after that. Their last words were. “We deserve revenge.” After that, multiple buildings around the city came crumbling down. This was not spur-of-the-moment villainy, this was premeditated evil.
Red Riot came racing down the streets, hunching over the handles of his bike as he sped past the traffic and terrified civilians. The bombs are planted outside of a two mile radius, keeping the focus centered on the border of his agency, the cities primary hospital at the dead center. The hospital attempted to evacuate immediately, but only a handful got out before the hospital was forced into lock down procedures. The twins were in and everyone in that building was in danger.
The sturdy hero skidded to a halt behind a mass of police, rescue heroes, and civilians who are gathered out front of the hospital. He noticed a tall pair of twin spikes bobbing in the middle of the crowd, deep teal in color and attached to the last person he wanted to see wrapped up in this mess.
“Izuku! What are you doing here?” The number one pro hero pops his head up at his boyfriends voice, excited for only a moment before falling serious once again. “What am I doing here? If you didn’t notice, a hospital is being held hostage and it's my job to help.”
Eijirou works his way through the crowd, coming up to where Izuku had been talking with the head of police. “I’m aware of that but it’s in my agencies jurisdiction.” Izuku’s eyes flashed with understanding and his defensive guard fell. “Right, sorry, I was on patrol when it happen, and I had to come help. You know me, Red.” Eijirou sighed, rolling his eyes, knowing his lover acted without thinking once again and raced across town to help these people.
“Glad to have you on the team, Deku. So what’s the plan?”
Deku and Red Riot were sent in alone. A fleet of back up following behind once they radio back that the floor is clear - the police and rescue heros aiding all captives from that point on. Eijirou used his quirk to cut the doors open while Izuku stayed close behind checking each person they passed to make sure no one needed help immediately. The “guards” the twins set up on each floor could barely be called villains. Easy take downs one after the other as they climbed through the hospital at an uncomfortably fast pace. This was too easy.
“You know, it’s kinda nice working with you like this.” Eijirou turns his head as Izuku threw down a man with a water quirk, effectively knocking him out. He snorted, throwing open another door and finding no one. These upper levels were getting more and more barren.
“Yeah it is kinda nice, isn’t it?”
A gunshot fired from behind Kirishima, his skin going bulletproof in an instant, shattering it on contact. Izuku took off, using his partners shoulders as a springboard to launch himself at the villain and land with a boot to the face. “Damn, it never gets old watching you do that.”
Izuku laughed, stepping off the downed villain with a blush on his cheeks. “Oh shut up, we have to keep moving.”
They climbed higher and higher. Four floors clear, two hundred civilians evacuated. Two floors to go and no sign of the twins. That deep nasty feeling in the pit of Eijirou’s gut grew tighter and tighter the further they went. Why weren’t they fighting back harder? Was this a ploy? A trap? This didn’t add up. Why make a public announcement on how wronged you were by the government, then do nothing about the heroes storming through your head quarters?
“Deku? Red Riot? Heroes, do you copy?” Eijirou froze, holding his ground as he returned the call. “Red Riot copies. What’s going on, officer Hiroshi?”
“We picked up heat signatures coming from the basement. We have reason to believe its the twins and it looks like…...there's massive amounts of… and we have witnesses…. Dedisco…. Do not engage…. Eraserhead...back up….” the radio faded out into complete static. The sound of the elevator ringing with its arrival made both their heads turn. The doors opened and a flood of pastel blue smog came pouring out.
Eijirou fell, watching his lovers quirk wrap around them with purple lightning before he too collapsed to the ground.
Regaining consciousness took longer than he would have liked. Eijirou could think before he could see, and see before he could move his aching body. It felt like he'd just finished a trainer course rigged to drain your body of energy. His limbs felt like lead, a deep dull throb in the back of his head, and a tightness around his wrists.
His first instinct was to use his quirk to cut himself out, unfortunately it couldn’t be that simple. The cuffs were quirk resistant, keeping him chained to the floor right where the twins wanted him.
The room was empty, and still apart of the hospital if the sterile smell was anything to go off of. A few lights loomed overhead, the rest knocked out shrouding the room in shadows. Eijirou sat up on his knees, cuffs keeping his wrists bound to the floor and his body hunched over.
“Well well well, looks like the brave little hero has woken up.”
“Just in time too, I was getting tired of holding bunny here.”
From the shadows Eijirou watched in horror as Inmotus and Dedisco stepped out of the shadows. They brought an office chair with them, the back of which showing him two strong arms chained down with the same quirk resistant cuff he had. A mess of deep green hair poking out from the top. No.
“Looks like sleeping beauty just realized where he woke up.”
The right twin smiled, the hand on Izuku’s shoulder tightening as he thrashed. Izuku must have just realized he was here too. Eijirou screamed behind his gag, the burn of the cuffs dull to the adrenaline pumping through him. Not Izuku. The world needed him.
“I’m sure you know who we are, considering you were snooping around our playground.” The left twin giggled, helping her sister turn the chair around so the lovers could look at each other. “You care a lot about your partner, don’t you?”
Tears fell off his cheeks, eyes screwing shut as he saw the terror in Izuku’s eyes.
“It’s funny, we had you two tied up together. Then little Deku here woke up.” Izuku thrashed again, the sparks of his quirk crawling on his skin yet unable to escape. “He asked for you first. ‘Where’s Eijirou? What did you do with him?”
Izuku’s eyes grew wider, filling with tears as he realized his mistake. His fight grew more frantic, thrashing like a toddler in their grasp.
“The only person he was with was the one and only Red Riot, and we thought it strange. Why would a hero call another hero by their first name? They don’t even work for the same person!”
The right twin yanked Izuku’s head back by the hair, smiling down at him like a mad woman. “Then it became very clear. You two are more than just work friends.”
Izuku was sobbing, fat, wet tears rolling down his cheeks as he screamed. The gag made it so hard to understand him, nothing but muffled wails for the most part, but Eijirou made out a little “sorry” and “Ei.” Red Riot hardened further, jerking his arms against the cuffs and bending the metal.
“Then, what made this even better was finding a little something sparkly in your pocket.”
The left twin threw his proposal ring on the ground, his heart losing pace at the sight.
“Young love is so beautiful, isn’t it?”
This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t be happening. Not now. There had to be a way out out. All he had to do was get out of these cuffs. Just get out of these cuffs and he could stop them.
“Ei, do you want to know why my name is Dedisco?”
The words fell on deaf ears. The young hero slammed his hands against the ground over and over, till his wrists were raw and bloodied through his hardened muscles. Get out. Just get out.
“It means to unlearn in Latin. To forget.”
She brought her hand to Izuku’s throat, her pinky the only digit not touching him.
Why won’t these chains break? He just had to break these chains. Why wasn’t this working, Izuku was in trouble and these chains. Won’t. Break.
“Time to say bye bye to your little bunny.”
The wall blew out behind him, Dedisco’s hand clamped down on Izuku’s throat, and a chunk of debris knocked Eijirou out cold once again.
He woke up in a bed. The mattress stiff and tubes coming out of his arms. I.v., a heart monitor, and a light blinding him from above. Back in another hospital… the backup must have gotten there. Then where was...
Eijirou shot upright, the blistering headache throbbing in protest at the motion. Where was Izuku? The bitch had gotten to him, she touched him and he could have... just before he could yank out the wires and tubes stuck to him a young nurse walked in. His smile was soft but lacked warmth behind it.
“Ah, Mr.. Kirishima, you’re awake. I’m sure you’re a bit spooked with everything that’s just happened but rest assured Mr. Midoriya is ok. He’s awake and speaking. He seems to be fully aware of everything that’s going on.”
“Can I see him?”
The nurse ignored his question out right, aiming to finish what he came to say. “You on the other had have a concussion, so you will be out of hero work for a… while, to say the least. The injuries on your wrists aren’t deep, but they will also need to take some time to heal. You’ll be out of here by night fall.”
“Can I go see Izuku?”
The nurse frowned, sighing as he set the clipboard on the side table. “Yes, you may. But I have to warn you. Your partner was hit with a quirk we know little about. Doctor Tanaka is in with him right now to see what he still remembers. You should prepare yourself for the worst.” His nurse paused, looking to have finished before he dug around in Eijirou’s effects bag and handed him the small engagement band they recovered from the attack site. “If you love him, this is going to be the worst fight of your life.”
He should have listened to the nurses warnings. Eijirou was helped out of bed and brought right down the hall. The room was a carbon copy of his own, but held the love of his life and a man with another clipboard and notes in his hands.
“Kirishima? What are you doing here?”
The doctor turned his head, jaw tight as he started his next question with careful tact.
“Mr. Midoriya, do you know this man?”
“Um, yeah, we went to highschool together.”
“And do you know your relationship with him?”
Izuku didn’t answer right away. The gears in his head turned and worked hard through the information stored within.
“He’s... just a friend… I don’t think I’ve seen him in a few years.”
The tears came in hot, his hardened hand tightening on the door frame.
The nurse was right, this was going to be his worst fight yet.
