Work Text:
Saturday afternoon.
Finally, a day I don't have to deal with Guren.
I blink the sleep out of my eyes before sitting up. Beautiful blonde locks are splayed on the pillow beside me; his breathing is consistent and light. No snoring.
Mikaela Shindo. My beautiful boyfriend.
Slowly, I climb out of bed to make breakfast. Let's see...we have eggs, biscuits, but where's the bacon? I guess I'll have to run to the store. Today has to be perfect because today is the day I propose to Mika.
Speaking of which, where's the box with the ring? Oh, right. It's on the top shelf of the closet. I'm sure he won't find it before it's time.
I grab my phone and my car keys off the kitchen counter and quietly open the garage door. Mika won't be asleep for long, so I have to hurry and make breakfast. The engine ignites as I'm off to the store.
By the time I get there, my phone reads [09:30]. At this rate, he'll be awake before I get home. God damn it.
I rush through the meat department searching for the bacon. Wright's. Mika's favorite. Now, where's it at?
Finally, I find it. I head back to the front of the store. On my way up there, I pass by the clothes. I needed to make another stop on my way home to buy something, ahem, celebratory, for if he says yes. I look around, and am in lock when I notice the frilly lace hanging off the side of the shelf. A maid dress. I find Mika's size and tuck it under my shoulder. I continue my journey toto see—surprise, surprise—Guren Ichinose and his stupid fuck boyfriend, Shinya Hiiragi. A failed attempt to avoid them ensues.
"Hey, Yuuichirou! How's boy-toy-Mikaela?" Shinya exclaims as I snarl at the couple. "Leave me alone, fuckwad," Walking away, I add in another comment. "He's not just a "boy toy". We might actually tie the knot soon if he says yes today." Guren and Shinya's corresponding gasps are heard before I feel two hands on my shoulders. "No way!" "Oh my god, why didn't you tell us?" Both boys are very intrigued. "Because it's my business! Leave me alone, I have to go make breakfast before I do anything else!" I yell at them before storming off. Before I make it to the checkout line, I hear Guren yell. "Have fun tonight! I see that dress you have there, bud!" I groan loudly at him in response.
Once I'm headed to the car, I get a text.
[09:42] Mika <3: where'd you go yuuchan? the car isn't in the garage and there's food on the counter.
[09:42] Me: i ran to the store to get bacon!
Fuck. I can't let him know about the dress yet!
[09:42] Mika <3: oh, ok! love you; see you when you get home.
Phew. Time to go home.
When I walk in the door, I am greeted by a beautiful blonde haired boy in an apron. "Let's start cooking breakfast, shall we?" He smiles and tilts his head at me. I jump as I hand him the bacon and sneak inside to my room and set my "stuff" down. "Alright."
We start with the bacon. The plan is to cook the bacon and then the eggs while the biscuits are in the oven, but I know with my lack of cooking skills that I'll find a way to screw it up. Mikaela puts the bacon in the pan and begins to cook. Curiously, I watch over his shoulder. "Why do you have to cook the bacon first?" I patiently wait for an answer. "Well, you have to cook bacon so you can use the grease for the eggs." Mikaela continues to cook. "Is there anything I can do to help out?" Mikaela looks back at me and motions for the salt and pepper. "Can you hand me those?" Before I can answer, he's turned around and watching the bacon sizzle. He's so pretty when he's focused on something. Actually, no, he's so pretty all the time. "Absolutely, beautiful."
Eventually, the bacon is finished cooking and Mikaela is cracking eggs. I decide to put on some music to liven up the house. Mikaela is swaying his hips to the music. I'm still watching over his shoulder questioning his every move. "Which do you do first: salt or pepper?" I question as he chuckles under his breath. "It doesn't really matter, but if I had to choose, probably salt." Mikaela has this adorable smile on his face that I can't live without. I quickly find myself blushing as he continues to cook. As I'm observing, I realize something. "Shit, Mikaela, I forgot to put the biscuits in the oven!" Mikaela gasps and hurriedly reaches for the biscuit can. "Can you hit this against the counter, please?" Mikaela asks politely. I'm highly confused. Why would you hit a can against something? Wouldn't it explode? "Why?" I feel like an idiot with the biscuit can in my hand with my shoulders shrugged. "That's how you open the package." Ah. "Oooh, okay." I raise my arm full force and smash the biscuit can into the edge of the counter.
Congratulations, Yuuichirou. You ruined he biscuits.
"Uh, Mika, the dough is everywhere." Mikaela turns to look at me and puts his head in his hands. "Yuu-chan, I meant for you to hit it against the counter lightly." My mouth forms a straight line. "Oh. Oops." I rush to clean up the mess I made. As I reach for the napkins, I trip over Mika's foot, causing him to pull the pan of fried eggs down with him as we both fall.
God damn it. I'm such a burden. I'm so clumsy. Why did I do that?
"Oh my god, Mika, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I apologize profusely as I stand and reach for his hand. Mikaela gasps, but I'm not sure why. "Don't look!" Mikaela yells as he flops across the floor. "Don't look! Close your eyes!" Mikaela sounds extremely worried. "What's wrong?!" I ask as I wrap my arms around his torso in order to help him up but he lets out a wail. "Noooooo!" I pull away to see Mikaela panting. He tucks something awayinto the pocket of the apron he was wearing before speaking again. "I'm okay," He sits up, but then dashes towards our room. He then proceeds to lock himself in our closet.
Oh shit.
Our closet. No way. He couldn't have found it, right?
"Mika, let me in!" I lean against the door.
"No!"
I sigh, and fall against the door. "What's wrong?" I ask nervously. "It's nothing, Yuu-chan." He responds quietly. I exhale once more and press against the door in hopes of hearing him put the box and ring back. Nothing.
"Yuu-chan, can I ask you something?"
"Of course you can, but only if you open the door, Mika."
Oh god. He's about to drop the bomb. Now I know he found my ring.
I hear the click of the lock as the handle turns. Mikaela is...
...on one knee.
I gasp and press my hand against my forehead. Was he using my ring? Or did he choose today as well? "Yuu-chan, we've been dating for three years, and i think it's time for me to do this. You're the only man I want to sp-"
"Yes!"
Mika stops mid-sentence as I leap to him and wrap my arms around his waist. I lay my head on his shoulder and cry. "Yes, I will, Mika. I will. I love you so much..." Mika stands up and cups my face. He wipes the tears from my eyes as I smile brightly at him. "Mika, you're the best..." Then, it's my turn to wipe the tears from his eyes. He's even a pretty crier, could I have asked for a better man? I lean in to kiss him as we make our way to our bed. Our tongues dance as he grabs a handful of my hair. He sits beside me as the kiss breaks. "Hey, I didn't even take the time to look at the ring. Can I see it?" I ask quietly. "Of course you can. It's yours, after all." He hands me a gorgeous burgundy box—not my box!—and I open it. It's a beautiful...wait.
This is the same ring I bought. However, it's in a different box?
"Hey, uh, Mika? Can I show you something?" I ask warily. He nods, so I get up and head to the closet. "Stay there." I instruct, then reach to the top shelf and grab the box. I walk back to the bed. "This is the one I bought." Mikaela covered his mouth with his hand and blushed. He opens the box. "It's the same one..." Mikaela whispers. "It is. We share similar taste!" I exclaim, before noticing the maid dress on the bedside table. Mikaela must have noticed it the same time I did.
"What is...that?"
"Something for later!" I scuttle towards the dress and dart for the closet, but Mikaela stops me midway, flustered face and all. "I'm sure you'll be wearing this tonight, hm?" He smirked. I felt my face turn maroon before defending myself. "Will not! It'll be YOU who's MY maid! Not the other way around!" I pouted. Mika snickered at me.
"Sure, sure..."
