Anticlimatic

Summary:

It wasn't easy dating an artist, and this was something Jimin had learned quite fast when he had begun to date Min Yoongi. Yoongi was picky and he always knew when Jimin had used something of his. Even if it had just been a pen to quickly jot down a note he would somehow always know. Yoongi spent ungodly amounts of hours awake to work on his music. Going without food and even water if it wasn't for Jimin bringing a cup to his lips and forcing him to drink. Yoongi was moody, jumping between being adorable and happy to being grumpy and annoyed. There never seemed to be an in between. But Jimin loved him non-the less, learning how to deal with and predict when he may be in a difficult or bad mood.

(Or; Jimin and Yoongi fight, and neither know how to handle their own shit or deal with a mess)

Work Text:

Jimin loved his boyfriend, adored him and respected his art, but recently he’d been feeling doubts about whether Yoongi felt the same for him. He’d shake the thought when it would arise; telling himself it was only due to his need for attention since Yoongi would sometimes spend a lot of time away from the house, and Jimin. After all they had been together for almost three years. But something had occurred and planted a small seed of doubt within Jimin.

It was well known that producers and writers wrote and got inspiration from things in their lives. And Yoongi often would go on about a muse that he’s taken inspiration from for a recent song or lyric. Yoongi’s muse for music came from his past relationships and past experiences. Something Jimin knew all about and respected as he knew these were the relationships and moments that helped shape who Yoongi was as well as knowing that maybe others could relate or seek comfort in knowing that someone had gone through these situations through Yoongi’s music. Yoongi had made it clear he rarely drew on present experiences because he didn’t want to jinx them; Yoongi said it was the superstition of a producer and writer. And Jimin had just shrugged it off, Yoongi was odd and this was just one of those things Jimin had accepted about dating an artist. Recently Yoongi had taken his muses and started writing them with another man, one Jimin had never met. In a man named Hoseok whom he had befriended and discovered common interests with and some similar or shared experiences. He’d come home and tell Jimin all about writing sessions or conversations he’d had with Hoseok. About how they just clicked and could bounce ideas off of one another. Jimin was happy for Yoongi because as much as he himself loved music and singing, Yoongi had even sampled his voice for some of his works, he wasn’t able to keep up with or hold as detailed conversations with Yoongi about his work. Jimin didn’t understand the depth to which Yoongi went for his art, and it was there he knew he paled in comparison to this Hoseok. But this wasn’t what planted the seed of doubt, though Jimin did fear that Yoongi was losing interest in him for Hoseok, but the fact that Yoongi would disappear at all hours of the day to go to Hoseok. Drop everything at the other man’s beck and call. Sometimes Yoongi would leave and not tell Jimin and be gone for hours, or he’d cancel a date with Jimin because he had to go show Hoseok a bar he’d just thought of in his head. Jimin was starting to feel like he was second best to Hoseok, and that he was no longer good enough. But he’d shake that thought away, like always, because he didn’t want to think about the consequence if that were true.

"Yoongi I'm going to work now. I'll see you later okay?" Jimin called as he knocked gently against the large wooden door of Yoongi's studio. He was greeted with only silence and Jimin let out a long sigh, knowing that this could only mean Yoongi had spent another long night awake working on something he wouldn’t tell Jimin about. As quietly as he could Jimin pushed open the heavy door and entered the studio. He glanced around the spare bedroom which Yoongi had turned into a sound proof room for recording and his music. The walls were covered in a sound nullifying fabric, dark in colour and making the room seem even darker when the lights were out. The only light currently allowing Jimin any semblance of vision, as to not trip over the garbage Yoongi had everywhere, was coming from a single computer monitor in the corner of the room. Jimin quietly made his way over to the other end of the room, where Yoongi had a futon set up so that, if he could drag himself away from the desk, could pass out on. Though the amount of times Jimin had found Yoongi curled up in his desk chair was more often than he found him on the futon. However, a quick glance at the chair and even in the dim light Jimin could tell Yoongi didn’t occupy it. So with that knowledge Jimin headed for the futon, because he didn’t wake up beside Yoongi in bed he knew he would be there. His intention was to press a quick kiss to his boyfriends head then leave for work. Not wanting to disturb Yoongi but wanting to give some affection since Jimin had always been more affectionate and physical than Yoongi was. Jimin approached the futon, smiling fondly at the lump under the thick blanket, and slowly moved the blanket back in order to have access to Yoongi’s head. What Jimin was expecting was to pull the cover back, lean forward and press a kiss to the crown of Yoongi’s head before quietly exiting the room. What he wasn’t expecting was to pull the cover back and find not only his boyfriend but also another body pressed in close to his boyfriend. Someone he only recognized from photos and heard about from his boyfriend. And neither was wearing a shirt.

Jimin backed away slowly, shock taking over and his mind reeling over what this could all mean. He had texted Yoongi in the evening that he would either be home late from work or that he was going to crash at Taehyung’s, his best friend and co-worker, house and be home in the morning if things went too late at the café. Yoongi had simply texted he was working on a new song and for Jimin to have a good night. Nothing about a guest in the house. He hadn’t known anyone else was in the house, work hadn’t gone as late as Jimin had thought so he forwent going to Taehyung’s house which was closer and opted to go home. He’d decided not to bother Yoongi when he got home past midnight since the bass coming from the room was extra loud, meaning he was onto something. But now he was kind of wishing he had gone in, that maybe that bass had been more than he thought.

Jimin’s mind was now reeling with all the possibilities and the reality of the situation in his mind of what had occurred. Of Yoongi bringing home another man and not telling Jimin. That Yoongi lay on a futon with another man, shirtless and who knew what else may be off, that wasn’t Jimin. That this man that Yoongi lay with now was the man he had essentially been neglecting Jimin for the past few months for muse and inspiration. This man was the Hoseok that Yoongi had been talking so animatedly about since they met, that Jimin felt he paled in comparison to. And with all this running through Jimin’s mind he failed to see the computer chair that was in his path to the door, tripping over the chairs legs and falling to the floor. Only just catching himself before he impacted too hard with the floor. The impact was loud enough to startle the two sleeping men awake.

“What the fuck?” came a grumpy garbled voice that if Jimin wasn’t still reeling he would have recognized as Yoongi’s voice.

“What was that Yoongi?” A new voice, raspy and silken and very alluring, asked into the darkness. Jimin felt anger, sadness, and betrayal blossom in his whole being. So in lieu of an answer Jimin pushed himself up and escaped the room, escaping the scene and hoping more than anything to escape whatever was going on.

"I always thought those two were too close too fast. All he ever did was talk about how amazing Hoseok is. And if he wasn’t talking about how amazing he is he was talking about the new bar Hoseok helped him with, or how Hoseok helped him write some lyric or… he was always just talking about him.” Jimin was moping at work, heartbroken and trying to make sense of it all. Jimin worked in a café and bakery that he co-owned with Taehyung, a business that the two had joked about owning all throughout college only for it to become a reality when they graduated. With their star baker, and Taehyung’s boyfriend, Seokjin the business had been a dream come true. Though now for Jimin it felt like some of his dreams were bursting. Taehyung was the one who had to listen as Jimin went through various emotions of sadness, anger, betrayal, disappointment, and bargaining. Though in Jimin’s mind it all came down to one thing.

"I just don't understand Tae...Why would he cheat?" Jimin asked as he placed his head on top of the cool counter.

"Jimin, do you really know if he cheated or not? You only saw them lying on a futon without clo.. okay but you didn’t ask him or confront him. And I mean this is Yoongi we're talking about. He's been in love with you ever since he met you. And may I reiterate you didn’t actually ask Yoongi what was going on, and I know it seems with all evidence that he was.. but I don’t believe he would." Taehyung told him, patting his friend on the back as semblance of comfort.

“You may not believe it but it happened.” Jimin grumbled, apparently having switched back to anger now, shrugging off Taehyung’s hand. Taehyung rolled his eyes, moving away from Jimin and his sour mood.

“I get it, you’re angry and upset and if Yoongi really did cheat on you then you’d have every right to be upset and angry and mean. But you don’t know it for sure and you refuse to do what a good couple does to fix their issues, which might I add Yoongi doesn’t even know you have, and that is talk about it. So go home and talk to him, confront him if you really think he’s cheating.” Taehyung advised. Jimin sighed, it was so much easier to run on assumptions but also Jimin didn’t want this assumption to be true. All evidence pointed towards it, what he saw made it clear in his own mind that he was replaced and Yoongi was happier with someone else. But he could be overreacting and a simple talk with Yoongi would fix it all and…

“I’m so confused.” Jimin spoke, looking down at the counter and letting out what really was bothering him. “I’m confused, I feel replaced. I don’t feel loved anymore. I don’t want that though, I want Yoongi. I don’t want these emotions. I just want what we had before he ever became friends with Hoseok.” He spat the name out like it was something volatile in his mouth.

“Then go home, talk to Yoongi and become less confused.” Taehyung offered as advice. “I’ll keep an eye on the place. Seokjin is baking in the back but if need be he can come up front and help out. So go home, because you’re no help here when you’re all mixed up like this.” Taehyung’s voice was soft, something Jimin only got when he was really upset and needed not a stern voice but a kind one. Or when he was speaking to Seokjin.

“Okay.” Jimin mumbled giving Taehyung a thankful smile. He was so glad he had him as a best friend. A head popped out form the kitchen doorway and Seokjin offered Jimin one of his kind and motherly smiles.

“You’ve got this. I’m rooting for you both to work this out. But Jimin, whatever happens remember we are here for you.” Seokjin offered, Jimin assumed he’d been listening from the kitchen though he was more than thankful for the support from his friends as he left to go face what and who he didn’t want to.

Jimin stood outside the front door for longer than one would deem socially acceptable. He was scared of what lay beyond the door, who was behind it and what was to come. He took in a deep breath, mentally encouraging himself before reaching for the handle. The door creaked open and Jimin was relieved that his life didn’t crumble apart right then and there. Jimin made his way into the house quietly, tip toeing as if any sound would be the end of him. He’d just made it to the end of the hallway, thinking he was in the clear, when an all too familiar vice spoke form behind him.

“Jimin? You’re home early.” Yoongi drawled, and Jimin turned so fast that he nearly stumbled over. “Woah there. You alright? You don’t look so good.” Yoongi commented, reaching out a hand to help stabilize Jimin. Jimin flinched away from Yoongi’s touch, causing the older to raise an eyebrow in question.

“I, um, I’m fine. Just tired.” Jimin lied, stepping out of Yoongi’s reach.

“I hear a new voice, I thought you said Jimin wasn’t home till later?” came that voice that Jimin recognized from this morning and he froze.

“Yeah, he usually works till around dinner time but hey he’s home so I guess it’s time you two finally meet.” Yoongi called back and Hoseok peered out from the kitchen and squinted at Jimin.

“Oh he’s cute! You didn’t tell me he was this cute!” was Hoseok’s loud response and Jimin flinched. He’d normally be a bit flustered at being called cute but he was shaken by Hoseok calling Yoongi out for not talking about him. And Yoongi in turned merely shrugged before waving a hand between the two.

“Hoseok, Jimin. Jimin, Hoseok.” Yoongi offered as way of introduction, and Jimin rolled his eyes. He couldn’t understand how Yoongi was so good with writing and lyrics but failed with actual words.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Jimin!” Hoseok spoke so enthusiastically and happiness just seemed to radiate off him. Jimin didn’t trust his own voice so instead he offered Hoseok a semblance of a smile. Hoseok began talking again, looking animatedly between Jimin and Yoongi but Jimin found himself tuning him out. He too looked towards Yoongi, eyebrows knitting together as he gazed at him. Yoongi was staring intently at Hoseok, nodding along with whatever he was saying. Jimin couldn’t help but wonder how they got along so well, Hoseok was so animated and upbeat and Yoongi was so laidback and introverted. It just seemed like an odd match, though then again that was what people had initially said about him and Yoongi. Though Jimin could tell they were both passionate, that had always been something he admired Yoongi for, and the way Hoseok talked he could just see it rolling off him. Yoongi responded to Hoseok, and Jimin watched as he cracked a smile at him. The gummy one that always made Jimin’s heart melt and he felt all those emotions rush in again.

“Are you cheating on me with Hoseok?” Jimin blurted out, his mouth running before his brain could catch up. His hands flew up to his mouth as soon as the words escaped him. He watched as both Hoseok and Yoongi froze, both turning to him in complete shock and horror and Yoongi even looked angry. Jimin wished he could take the words back, take them and shove them all back into his mouth and act like he never said it. But it was done, and he could only watch as Hoseok and Yoongi went over what he had said.

“Jimin, I… I’m not… Yoongi and I aren’t…” Hoseok was stuck for words.
“I’m not cheating on you.” Came Yoongi’s angry response, his tone icy and shut off. A tone he only used for people he didn’t like or care for, not one he had ever used on Jimin. Jimin recoiled, a shiver racking through his body at the pure ice in Yoongi’s voice.

“I… I saw you two this morning! You thought I wasn’t home so you invited him over! He was in bed with you!” Jimin defended, he had already accused Yoongi of cheating so he might as well push on with his evidence and thoughts. “You weren’t wearing shirts!”

“Hoseok had stayed late to help me with a song he’s co-writing. Before we both knew it the time was almost six in the morning. He crashed on the futon, and I was too tired to drag myself to the bed. It’s not like it’s any different than when you and Taehyung have sleepovers and sleep in the same bed. And, we always work in his studio since he works for a company and not freelance like I do. I invited him over to see where I work from. Had I known you would be home instead of going to Tae and Seokjin’s I would have told you. He didn’t mean to stay the night we both got caught up in work.” Yoongi explained. He was so stoic in his answer that Jimin wasn’t sure how to react to it. He wasn’t used to this. He and Yoongi almost never fought, and when they did it was usually Jimin yelling and Yoongi just waiting for him to get it out before they would make up.

“I..” Jimin was at a loss for words. Yoongi had him there, he and Taehyung usually shared a bed when one slept over and their respective boyfriends never put up a fight since the two would get so chatty. “But you always talk about him like he’s the most amazing person in the world! You never talk about me like that!” Jimin accused.

“Actually he does,” Hoseok cut in, and Jimin honestly had forgotten he was standing there for a moment. “If we aren’t talking about music he’s usually talking about you.” Jimin felt as if he had been doused with a bucket of cold water, turning to face Hoseok who now looked irritated and definitely not like the bubbly happy person he was. It was off-putting.
“I’m sorry if my behaviour as Yoongi’s friend made you feel that it was something other than a friendship.” Hoseok continued and Jimin had to look away.

“I didn’t realize I wasn’t allowed to have friends outside of you and yours.” Yoongi spoke so monotone and so detached and Jimin knew he fucked up. He knew he hadn’t approached the situation in the right way at all, accusing Yoongi of infidelity with his friend in front of said friend. “I didn’t realize how little you trusted me.” Yoongi continued, and this was Jimin’s breaking point.

“No! I do! I just thought…” He was in tears now, and unable to look at either men in front of him.

“Just thought I was cheating on you with a friend I had that was outside your friend group and whom you didn’t know because you apparently don’t trust me.” Yoongi filled in, and it wasn’t like that but it kind of was and Jimin felt awful. They all stood there, no words left to exchange, and Jimin’s quiet sniffles filling the quiet.

“I’m sorry.” Jimin finally managed to say, though it came out as a broken whisper.

“I’m sure you are.” Yoongi muttered, his tone was still so cold and Jimin just felt like he’d ruined everything good he’d ever had. “I’m leaving, and just because you apparently don’t trust me, I’m going to Hoseok’s studio. I need to cool off. Don’t call me.” Yoongi spoke before turning and moving towards his own studio, leaving Jimin crying in the hall with an awkwardly shuffling Hoseok, before returning with his black duffle bag. “Let’s go Hoseok. I’m just done.” Yoongi muttered to Hoseok, not sparing Jimin a look as he left the house with Hoseok behind him.

“You fucked up real good.” Taehyung said, though there was a sympathetic look on his face as he spoke. Jimin didn’t say anything, just pouted on Taehyung’s couch while clutching a pillow to his chest. He’d cried for hours after Yoongi had walked out, he desperately wanted to call and apologize but Yoongi had said not to and Jimin knew Yoongi would let the call drop anyway if he tried. So he had called Taehyung and through sobs managed to get out a little of what happened. Seokjin and Taehyung had come to pick him up after they had closed the café and now he sat on their couch, clutching a pillow and looking as if he had cried every ounce of water in his body.

“Thank you for pointing out the obvious.” Jimin muttered before burying his head into the pillow. Maybe if he just stayed there he could suffocate and then everything would go away and Yoongi could be happy with someone who trusted him. Firm hand began prying the pillow away from Jimin’s face who pouted up as oxygen was once again allowed to his lungs.

“Listen, Jimin” Seokjin peered at him from over the pillow, pulling it away more. “Your problems won’t be solved by death by pillow.” Seokjin wisely informed him and Jimin rolled his eyes.

“You don’t know that.” Jimin grumbled and Seokjin rolled his eyes.

“Actually I do, because then you just create a whole new mess and it’s one that you can’t clean up.” Jimin didn’t like how Seokjin was shutting down his plan with logical bullshit.

“Taehyung’s not wrong when he says you fucked up, but I also do believe that Yoongi is slightly in the wrong as well because of how he handled it. You both didn’t address it well, you didn’t pick a good time and he reacted poorly.” Seokjin spoke, and Jimin was really starting to resent him because why couldn’t he just let Jimin mope and be sad?

“No matter how I would have addressed it he would have been mad and hated me.” Jimin responded, voice cracking as he thought about it. Yoongi hated him now, Yoongi really hated him. That brought forward a whole new wave of tears. Taehyung reached out to pull Jimin into a hug as he cried, patting his back soothingly.

“He doesn’t hate you,” Seokjin spoke from somewhere but Jimin was pressed into Taehyung now and he didn’t much care where the other was. “He’d be mad yes, but he wouldn’t be this upset. He felt cornered and his friend was there so that really put a lot of stress on him, and Hoseok. You accused him in front of Hoseok so of course he’s going to get defensive and angry. Do I think he responded correctly, absolutely not but I can see why. You’ve said yourself Yoongi isn’t the greatest with emotions other than through his songs, he’s not exactly the most socially adept person. And it’s also a lot for him, you know how important trust is to Yoongi. He feels like you don’t trust him right now which I think is where most of his anger is stemming from. He doesn’t hate you though, he never could.” Seokjin explained, and Jimin knew it was all true logically but logic wasn’t his friend at the moment.

“He hates me, he said it himself he was done with me.” Jimin’s voice was muffled by Taehyung’s shirt.

“Did he say he was done with you specifically? Or just done?” this time it was Taehyung’s voice asking.

“No, he said he was just done. This is basically the same thing as him being done with me. Guys, we’re through. There is no more Yoongi and I. He’s done.” Jimin cried, fresh tears forming and falling against Taehyung’s already wet shirt. Seokjin let out a frustrated sigh.

“Jimin, don’t be ridiculous. Did Yoongi say straight up you’re breaking up? Did Yoongi specifically say he was done with you? No he didn’t. You’re still a couple, you’ve just hit a road bump…”

“More like a wall.” Jimin interrupted, and Seokjin shot him a glare.

“You both just need space because neither of you handled this well. So give him space and then reach out to talk or else this relationship really will be at its end.” Seokjin warned, and Jimin just wanted to curl up and cry even more.

It had been a week since Jimin had spoken to Yoongi. A week without communication. A week of an empty house that Jimin assumed Yoongi only came to while he was at work to collect clothes and personal items. It hurt, a lot. Jimin felt like Yoongi was slowly moving his things to move out of the house, out of Jimin’s life. Jimin didn’t know what he’d do if that was the case. He’d texted Yoongi the day after their fight saying how sorry he was but had gotten no reply.
Jimin sighed shaking his head to try and focus on what he was currently doing, lifting the mug of tea that he had to his mouth, long sleeves of one of Yoongi’s oversized sweaters making sweater paws around the mug. He was the epitome of comfort and sadness, however life didn’t stop just because he wanted to and business had to go on. So Jimin sat at his kitchen counter, taking a home day, with various papers spread out before him as he went over the monthly term for the café. It was doing well, the one happy thing in his life at the moment, and Jimin cracked a smile at the rising numbers. At least this was good and he could take pride on one thing he hadn’t messed up. A knock on the door pulled Jimin’s attention as he wasn’t expecting anyone, but figured maybe Taehyung and Seokjin had come by to see how things were going.
“You better have brought me food…” Jimin’s voice trailed off as he looked up to see none other than Hoseok standing on his front step. Many emotions flashed through Jimin’s being – sadness, anger, betrayal, confusion, and defeat. He didn’t know why Hoseok was there and he honestly wanted to shut the door right then and there.

“Hey.” Was Hoseok’s simple greeting.

“Hey.” Jimin replied because he didn’t know what else to say in that moment other than maybe scream and he wasn’t sure that would go over well either. They stared at one another for a moment and Jimin was highly debating on closing the door, closing off the problem more because that obviously was working out well for him at the moment.

“We need to talk.” Hoseok finally spoke, breaking through the awkward silence that had fell upon them. Jimin simply sighed, weighing his options. He still could close that door, but he wasn’t a child and there was tension, emotions, and questions that needed to get sorted through if Jimin ever wanted his relationship back with Yoongi. Though Jimin was really at the point of belief that the relationship was over. The other option was to allow Hoseok in and face the man he accused Yoongi of cheating with, that made him feel so insecure and small, that made him feel jealous and anything but himself. His options weighted, Jimin’s shoulders slumped in defeat as he held open the door and stepped aside to allow Hoseok in.

Once inside, Jimin having made Hoseok a cup of tea just to do something, they sat around the kitchen island as an awkward and charged silence. It was tense and Jimin wasn’t sure what to say, though he was seriously hoping Hoseok would lead since he was the one who had the audacity to show up at his front door.

“So,” Hoseok started and Jimin let out an internal sigh of relief. “Yoongi’s been miserable.”

“I doubt that.” Jimin replied not really sure how to respond, and it wasn’t like he was any better at this point. Hoseok looked up from his tea to stare at Jimin.

“You’re miserable and in denial.” Hoseok pointed out and Jimin rolled his eyes.

“Look if you’re just here to point out how miserable I am, or how great you’re both doing without me you know where the door is and you can show yourself out.” Jimin sniped back and Hoseok let out a hollow chuckle.

“I’m here for neither of those, and I’m sorry for putting you on edge and to feel so defensive.” Hoseok spoke, raising his hands in mock surrender. “I’m actually here to apologize. I feel like we need to clear the air. So I’m here to say I’m sorry for making you feel like there was more between Yoongi and I than friendship. There isn’t anything there, we are just friends and I really hope you believe me when I say that. I’m sorry for that night; I should have gone home and not stayed here. I’m sorry for it all.” Hoseok spoke so sincerely and Jimin had to look away. Hoseok shouldn’t be apologizing, he had gotten caught up in Jimin’s insecurities and jealousy, dragged into it without knowledge or meaning.

“You don’t need to apologize,” Jimin was shaking his head as he spoke, hands cupping his mug as he stared into his tea. “I should be the one apologizing for dragging you into this. Regardless of your relationship with Yoongi, whatever it may be, I shouldn’t have pulled you into this whole situation like that, it was something I should have spoken to him about in private but instead you were pulled into this mess, and because of that I made this mess and even bigger one. And for that I am sorry.” Jimin apologized, for as much as he felt against Hoseok he knew it was his own fault for making an already hard situation into an absolute mess. Emotions were hard to reign in sometimes and that made for difficult clean ups.

“Jimin, there isn’t anything more than friendship between me and Yoongi. Do you believe that?” Hoseok asked, frowning slightly at the way Jimin had worded his apology in regards to Yoongi and Hoseok.

“Yeah, mostly, I do believe it.” Jimin shrugged, because being coherent was hard. “I do, I do believe it, but I didn’t for some time and it really fucked things up because I lost trust.”

“I can’t exactly sit here and say I’ve done much to earn your trust. Out first meeting was that morning, and after talking to Yoongi I’ve gotten a sense of how often he’s run out on you or cancelled. You and I both know he’s not the best at sticking to something when he has something in his mind, especially when it comes to music but that is no excuse. Had I known I would have been more forceful in trying to get him to hold off.” Hoseok admitted and Jimin simply nodded. He knew how Yoongi got when he had something in his head, he was the type to need to write it down or get it out immediately for fear of losing it or ruining it. “I just want you to know Jimin, because I believe it’s important, that I am genuinely sorry for what happened and that these are the circumstances we met under. I was looking forward to meeting you, Yoongi kept talking about how he wanted us to meet, and I’m sorry it was this way. I care about Yoongi but as nothing more than platonic, and I want you guys to be okay. There was some trust lost, but Jimin you have to understand that Yoongi is also a bit at fault here. The way he didn’t really reassure you, I think he’s coming to terms with that himself and that’s why he’s also angry because he does realize he gave you reason to believe. It’s a fine line you know, trust and how easy it can be broken. But I think you can fix this, actually I known you can. Yoongi feels like you don’t trust him, but I think he’s also realized he may have crossed some lines himself that would allow for you to feel this way about us. I should have gone home that night, or refused to let Yoongi stay with me in the bed until we had met and you were assured that we were just friends. I’m just sorry for this mess, and sorry for playing a role in it.” Hoseok added on and Jimin didn’t know how to answer.

Situations like this were sticky and messy and not one that anyone wanted to go through. Being accused of something you didn’t do isn’t a good feeling, Jimin knew that, but also having the feelings and insecurities surface because of another’s actions wasn’t a good one either. No one was right and no one was wrong, emotions ran amuck and lines were blurred. It wasn’t simple, it wasn’t clean, and there was no way around it other than it was an absolute and utter mess that needed cleanup or else it would simply be lost in the mess. Jimin let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, because he knew he had to try but part of him felt that there was no point, that Yoongi was really done.

“Is he writing a song about me?” Jimin finally asked and Hoseok looked at him quizzically.

“I’m not sure, he’s writing something but he won’t tell me what.” Hoseok answered but he sounded confused by Jimin’s question, it obviously wasn’t what he had expected.

“Hoseok, I forgive you. You got caught up in this without meaning, and I’m sorry my own insecurities made me lash out at you. Thank you for coming to clear the air. I wish you the best. I wish Yoongi the best too, I hope you’re both happy.” Jimin told him and he was genuine about it, looking up to finally meet Hoseok’s eyes with his own tear filled ones.

“Jimin, I… I don’ understand why are you saying that about Yoongi?” Jimin could hear the question and panic in Hoseok’s voice. “You guys aren’t broken up, not officially, you just needed space you know Yoongi he just needed to regroup. Please don’t give up on him! He’s miserable without you! I’ll stop being his friend if I have to, but you make him so happy so why are you saying this?” Hoseok seemed to be in a state of near panic.

“Please don’t stop being his friend, he’s going to need you now more than before. But you don’t get it do you? He’s writing a song about this, he doesn’t write songs about current relationships.” Jimin spoke sadly, amazed in himself that he hadn’t crumbled into tears at this information. Hoseok stared at Jimin horrified.

“Jimin I…” Hoseok started but didn’t know what to say and Jimin just smiled.

“It’s okay Hoseok, but I think it’s best you go. I don’t hold anything against you, please know that. I created this mess, so I’m the one that has to live with it. Thank you for coming by, but I think it’s time for you to go.”

“Well, I’m proud of you for forgiving Hoseok and I’m amazed he came by the house. That takes a big person.” Taehyung was saying and Jimin just nodded absentmindedly from where his head rest against the counter. Had Seokjin been in he would have yelled at Jimin for being unsanitary, small blessings Jimin was counting them. “This is good though, because a mistress wouldn’t do that you know? So like Hoseok is good, and we forgive him. Which means you can talk with Yoongi and you know hopefully fix this and you both can be happy and…”

“He’s writing a song about me.” Jimin mumbled and Taehyung froze, turning from the coffee maker to stare at Jimin. Taehyung knew what that meant, having known Yoongi as long as Jimin if not longer because of Seokjin, who had been the one to introduce Jimin and Yoongi, he’d heard Yoongi’s whole spiel about why he doesn’t write songs about his current relationships.

“What proof do you have of this?” Taehyung demanded, and if Jimin wasn’t feeling so bad he would have laughed at the look on his best friends face.

“Hoseok told me he’s been writing a song.”

“But did he specify it was about you?”

“No, but what else could it be about?”

“Maybe it’s about how he misses you?” at this Jimin let out an actual laugh at this.

“Do you really believe that?” he asked, sounding cynical.

“Yes…” Taehyung spoke but he sounded unsure. Jimin was about to respond when Seokjin appeared, he’d somehow come in without either realizing and glared at Jimin.

“You’re dumb.” He spoke, angry and Jimin stared up at him shocked at the tone. He wasn’t used to this Seokjin.

“Hello to you too.” Jimin responded, pouting at Seokjin, why was everyone and at him now? Taehyung just looked between the two and decided to stand down on this one, his boyfriend had something he wanted to say and he wasn’t about to get in the way of that.

“Jimin when do you plan on talking to Yoongi?” Seokjin demanded and Jimin shrugged because that was something he was trying to avoid at the moment, he didn’t want the inevitable break up to actually happen.

“You two have been dating for three years and you’re both still horrible at communication, it really is a miracle you’ve lasted this long.” Seokjin spoke, exasperated and Jimin let out a little hey at that remark. “You’re literally just making things more complicated than they already are. You’re both stubborn and need to talk, but you’re the one who needs to reach out first because Yoongi is a shit and won’t do it because he feels wronged even though he knows he’s wronged too and again I repeat he’s a shit but he won’t say no if you reach out.” Seokjin continued and Jimin looked away. “So I repeat when do you plan on talking to him?” Seokjin asked again and Jimin once again just shrugged.

“I don’t know, I’m kind of hoping if I don’t then he won’t break up with me.” He admitted and Seokjin made a frustrated noise that even had Taehyung looking at him in surprise.

“He’s not going to break up with you!” Seokjin hissed.

“He’s writing a song about me! You know what that means Seokjin!” Jimin’s own voice had risen now, and some of the patrons in the café were looking over in concern.

“Do you know that it’s about you though?” Seokjin asked, being mindful of his own voice now that he’d realized people were watching.

“What else could it be about Seokjin?” Jimin’s voice was still loud as he was feeling attacked and angry.

“I don’t know, but remember the last time you just assumed something about Yoongi and his doings without asking him? Remember the mess that you made? Oh wait you’re currently living it.” Seokjin hissed and Jimin felt his anger rise then fall as the reality of Seokjin’s words hit him.

“That was harsh.” Came Taehyung’s voice now, and Jimin looked at his best friend for reprieve because Seokjin’s glare was suffocating. And Seokjin just shrugged.

“Sometimes people need that harsh reality, need to realize they’re being so damn dramatic, need to realize they are a fucking adult who needs to deal with their shit, and needs to get off their ass and do something if they actually want their fucking relationship of three years to work because I’m really fucking tired of seeing you both so damn miserable and it’s making me miserable and having to host two dinner nights is a lot harder and more annoying than hosting one!” Seokjin’s voice had gone up an octave again and Jimin flinched because the truth did hurt and he was tired of being angry and sad but this was a whole different hurt. One he’d never expected from Seokjin, and the worst part was he knew it was coming from a place of care just delivered in not the best way and the irony of the situation was really hitting him. Taehyung was now arguing with Seokjin over how harsh he was being and Jimin couldn’t stand to see them fight because of him.

“I’m sorry.” Jimin mumbled out, voice meek but genuine. “I’m sorry for causing you trouble Seokjin, and you too Taehyung. I was so caught up in my own mess and in thinking that Yoongi was done with me I didn’t realize it was affecting other people or that I was just jumping to conclusions again.” Jimin really was sorry, and he needed the slap in the face to realize how much of a petulant child he was being. Emotions made things messy and really tunneled ones vision on things, but he had to get out of that and work on it. Otherwise he’d really lose his relationship for good, and that was the last thing he wanted. Both Seokjin and Taehyung had turned to him, with Taehyung wrapping his arms around Jimin and mumbling into his hair that he was going to be okay. Seokjin simply offered a smile, a genuine one though that had Jimin feeling a whole lot better. One he was able to return because he felt so relieved.

“Um… excuse me,” a voice broke through and all three men turned to see a female customer staring at the awkwardly from the other side of the counter. “ I know this isn’t really my place to say anything but you really should talk to whomever it is you all were fighting about. Regardless of the outcome you’ll feel a lot better. And also can I get a caramel latte to go with a slice of banana loaf.” She added on her order and all three men blushed, because shit they were at work!

“Yes, sorry about that. Coming right up! And also thank you.” Jimin said sheepishly and the customer offered him a kind smile.

It wasn’t hard to get the address of Hoseok’s studio, as soon as he mentioned to Seokjin he wanted to find Yoongi but didn’t know where to start Seokjin had divulged all the information Jimin needed with a hand drawn map to boot. So Jimin now stood in front of a door, triple checking the number and wondering if this was really smart or not. He raised his fist to knock on the door when the door opened and Hoseok appeared, head turned and calling something to whomever (Yoongi) was inside before turning and startling at the view of Jimin. They stared at one another, wide eyed and surprised before Hoseok closed the door and faced him fully.

“You came.” Hoseok spoke, sounding surprised which Jimin didn’t blame him for. The last time they saw one another he had spoken to Hoseok so defeated and with so much finality that he and Yoongi wouldn’t work that Hoseok had most likely assumed Jimin had given up completely.

“Yeah… I spoke with Seokjin and…” Jimin trailed off not sure what to say but Hoseok smiled.

“Seokjin’s a good guy, he’s been here to help Yoongi and I’m glad he spoke with you.” Hoseok spoke and Jimin realized that Seokjin had probably come to Hoseok’s studio often enough that they would know one another now since this was where Yoongi was hiding out. And he felt a small pang of betrayal because Seokjin was his friend and Hoseok was stealing that too! But shook it away because this was exactly the opposite of what he wanted.

“Yeah, he’s good.” Jimin agreed, because he didn’t know what else to say and honestly felt so awkward and out of place. “Can I… can I go in and talk to him?” Jimin asked, because he had to get this over with regardless of if he wanted to or not. He had to because a relationship was on the line, and feelings, and it was messy but if Jimin didn’t deal with it it would only get worse.

“Of course,” Hoseok said, seeming to suddenly clue in to why Jimin was there, and he unlocked the door and held it open for him. “Good luck Jimin, I hope things are able to be worked out. He really misses you but he’ll probably be a bit of an ass at first.” Hoseok said and Jimin nodded because he knew that.

“I know, it’s his defense mechanism.” He spoke, trying to keep the annoyance out of his voice. This was already starting off so great apparently.

“Of course, you know him better than me. Now go in, talk with him. Please. And good luck.” Hoseok spoke again, he wasn’t upset or angry of anything, instead he was supportive and it really hit Jimin how much Hoseok wanted Yoongi to be happy. As his friend, he wanted his friend to be okay again.

“Thank you, and I’m really sorry for everything.” Jimin said before making his way inside.

The first thing Jimin is hit with is the smell, it’s pungent and smells like teen angst and he can only assume it’s because Yoongi hasn’t gone home to shower. Though, Jimin didn’t really know where Yoongi was staying and could only assume it was in the studio. And the further he wandered in more he realized that was likely, because of the mess the room was in. Bottles, clothes, and food wrappers lay all over the floor and Jimin felt sorry for Hoseok for having to put up with this. He pushed further into the room until he spotted Yoongi sitting at the computer, in the dark, the light illuminating his face as he bopped his head along to a beat he could hear through the headphones. Yoongi looked tired, even in the light of the computer he looked sallow and had bags under his eyes. But even looking worn he still looked beautiful and Jimin felt that pang of want for him. He stood there watching Yoongi for a moment, unsure how to approach when Yoongi finally turned and noticed him.

“Holy shit!” he exclaimed, taken by surprise and startled by the sudden appearance of Jimin. When you aren’t expecting someone to be there and then someone appears it startles anyone really bad. And it took a moment for Yoongi to regain his composure before he glared at Jimin. “What the fuck are you doing here?” he asked, moving the headphones to sit around his neck.

“I want to talk.” Jimin spoke, taking a breath to centre himself because this was going to be hard.

“Fine, then talk.” Yoongi spoke, grumpy and trying to be aloof but Jimin couldn’t help the small smile because Yoongi wasn’t being cold of off-putting. He was more welcoming, if you could call it welcoming than Jimin had expected and it only meant on thing, Yoongi had missed him. Though he couldn’t get his hopes up just because Yoongi may have missed him, they had so much to work through and talk through still.

“Hi, my name is Jimin and I fucked up.” He started, offering a small wave and this actually got Yoongi to smile slightly before he schooled his expression back to neutral. “I honestly just wanted to apologize. I don’t apologize for how I was feeling, because that is valid. But I apologize for how I approached it and how I made you feel I didn’t trust you. I do, but there was so much happening and I felt like I was coming in second to Ho… like I wasn’t important anymore to you and I felt insecure and I took that out in a way I shouldn’t have and I’m sorry.” Jimin let out a breath, repeating what he had been rehearsing to say. Because he really hadn’t known so Seokjin and Taehyung had helped him come up with something, because in Seokjin’s words “You’re both adults so please don’t draw this shit out with more dramatics. Just get to the heart of the issue and talk it the fuck out.” So that’s what Jimin was trying to do. Yoongi looked over him very contemplatively, scrutinizing almost, and Jimin felt vulnerable. He hadn’t come here for another fight, he didn’t have that kind of energy anymore and honestly he just wanted Yoongi back.

“I love you, a lot, and I trust you a lot but I was insecure and vulnerable and found you in an ominous position with a man who at the time I hadn’t met, and I assumed and I shouldn’t have but I did. And I’m sorry. I caused a mess, emotions are messy and I still am not sure if I’m even doing this properly because I don’t know emotions are messy and weird I fucked up and I’ve missed you, and this has been hard and I know I’ve fucked up and we’re done probably because you’re writing a song about me and…” Jimin was rambling because he didn’t know what else to do and the silence was killing him, and this was the exact opposite of what Seokjin had advised him to do, and then Yoongi was interrupting him and Jimin wasn’t sure what to do.

“What?” He sputtered and Jimin wasn’t sure what Yoongi was talking about because he wasn’t paying attention to the words tumbling out of his mouth. “We’re done?” and oh that’s what he said? And oh Yoongi looked mad again and Jimin wasn’t sure what to do with this.

“I… um… I just assumed you wouldn’t want to be with me… anymore… because you’re writing a song about me and you said you never write songs about current relationships and… yeah.” Jimin stuttered out, and this was going great obviously.

“There you go assuming shit again.” Yoongi growled out, and oh okay he was back to his cold demeanor and Jimin was sure he’d just royally fucked things up.

“Well, what else am I supposed to think you’re not exactly offering up comforts or explanations or something to help me think otherwise. And you always said… ”

“I know what I said.” Yoongi let out and angry and defeated sigh, running a hand through his hair, and Jimin was really starting to wonder if they could work this out or even if the situation could be salvaged since his initial apology had been thrown to the wayside it seemed. “Hi, I’m Yoongi and I fucked up.” Yoongi spoke, and Jimin tilted his head in interest because where was Yoongi going with this.

“Look, Jimin, I’ve been really mad at you all week but I’ve also come to realize that I’ve been really angry at myself. Both Hoseok and Seokjin yelled at me for being awful because as mad as I was at you for what you did, it was my fault for allowing it to build. I should have realized what I was doing, especially when you first expressed being upset when I cancelled so many times. But I didn’t and I let your insecurity grow and was a selfish dumbass because I wanted to have Hoseok and this friendship we have to myself. But I can’t do that, I have realized, because when you share your life with someone you need to share everything with them. And I was being stupid and selfish and I’m sorry. Your feelings were valid, and I was mad because I thought you didn’t trust me and the more I think about it the more I realize it’s because I wasn’t giving you reason to. I love you and I’m sorry.” Yoongi apologized and Jimin was speechless because that was the last thing he was expecting.

“What about the song? He finally settled on asking, because he obviously was very eloquent and good in these kinds of situations.

“The song, is not about you. It’s about me and my own stupidity. It’s about fucking up so badly because you get caught up in your own emotions you don’t realize how you’re making the person you love feel.” Yoongi said, rolling his eyes, and Jimin’s mouth formed an O shape.

“We both fucked up.” Jimin offered with a shrug and Yoongi let out a genuine smile this time and Jimin felt hopeful.

“We did, but I’d like to still be us if you’d like to be.” Yoongi looked hopeful and Jimin nodded.

“Yeah, I don’t want us to be done.” Jimin said, and Yoongi nodded. They both stared at one another for a moment before Jimin burst into laughter and Yoongi looked at him in confusion.

“Gosh, we are both such idiots and so anticlimactic.” He huffed between laughter and Yoongi just looked even more confused. “We’re both idiots because we’re both stubborn and this could have been solved so much sooner instead of having time pass filled with anxiety and different emotions. And anticlimactic because I was expecting tears and rage but here we are talking our shit out.” Jimin explained and Yoongi just shook his head.

“It’s because we’re adults and passed that stage of our lives, mostly, plus we were plenty dramatic over this whole ordeal so I think we’re both just done.” Yoongi agreed and Jimin just laughed before stepping forward into Yoongi’s outstretched arms. Yoongi pulled Jimin into him, and Jimin was soon sat on Yoongi’s lap, staring at him with such adoration and emotion. He’d missed him, and from the way Yoongi was looking at him it was obvious he had missed Jimin. There was still so much between them that needed to get talked out, because emotions were messy and there was still going to be lingering insecurities, but at the moment Jimin didn’t care because he had Yoongi back.

“You smell bad.” Jimin spoke as he leaned his forehead against Yoongi’s and Yoongi burst into laughter.

“I haven’t showered in far longer than I’d like to admit.” He replied and Jimin scrunched his nose in disgust. And then he was kissing Yoongi. It felt good to be kissing Yoongi again, after going so long without him it felt right and natural and Jimin was greedy. He pushed into the kiss, swinging his legs around the chair so he was straddling Yoongi and pushing into him. Yoongi too was greedy and he met Jimin’s greed back with his own, Yoongi’s tongue pushed into Jimin’s mouth and he let him enjoying the warmth as his hands ran up and down Yoongi’s abdomen under his shirt. Yoongi’s hands moved to Jimin’s back, trailing down till his hands were cupping Jimin’s ass and Jimin let out a needy noise that had Yoongi groaning in approval.

“I’ve missed you.” Yoongi managed to breathe out between kisses and Jimin just hummed in agreement before moving down to kiss and suck along the column of Yoongi’s neck. Yoongi let out quiet breathy sighs as Jimin went and honestly Jimin was really starting feel himself harden, and he could feel Yoongi too. It excited him, that they still had this passion for one another and Jimin was more than willing to show Yoongi just how passionate he made him…
Someone cleared their throat. Both men jumped back, Yoongi using his grip on Jimin’s ass to stabilize him as the sudden noise caused him to almost fall back. Hoseok stood there in the door way looking sheepish and uncomfortable.

“So, I uh, I uh take it things were able to get worked out then?” he sounded hopeful but he refused to look at Yoongi and Jimin who both flushed in embarrassment.

“Yeah.” Was all Yoongi managed to say, he sounded so wrecked and they hadn’t even done anything more than make out and this made Jimin somewhat proud that he could do that.

“Well that’s great, and I’m happy for you all but do you think you could maybe take this elsewhere, and uh not in my studio?” Hoseok asked, still making a point to not look at them, and Jimin rolled his eyes because they were still fully clothed! Better to find them like this than with a stranger shirtless in a bed. “Go home, fuck, and then shower because you need it Yoongi.” Hoseok said before promptly kicking them out so they could continue their ministrations elsewhere.

It wasn't easy dating an artist, and this was something Jimin had learned quite fast when he had begun to date Min Yoongi. Yoongi was moody and grumpy and would often spend hours upon hours in his home studio writing and working on music. He fought hard, and loved harder and Jimin never quite new what to expect from him, but that was one of the fun mysterious about Yoongi that always kept Jimin on his toes. They didn’t fight often but when they did it was dramatic and one side was always making thing worse than they were, they were messy, and full of emotions. But when they made up it was always passionate, maybe somewhat anticlimactic, and they both came out stronger and feeling better.
Jimin had made new friends because of Yoongi, formed strong relations with them, and got closer to his own friends because of it. Hoseok had become an essential part of their friend group, and Taehyung and Seokjin had welcomed him with open arms. Jimin had made up with Hoseok and the two were almost inseparable at times, especially when Hoseok was able to drag Jimin to the dance studio.

They were a mess at the best of times, but an organized one as Jimin liked to phrase it and Yoongi would just smile and kiss him. It wasn’t easy dating Yoongi, but Jimin loved him more than anything and he knew that feeling was a mutual one. They may be messy, they not always be good with words, Jimin may jump to conclusions, and Yoongi may neglect him for work but they were making things work, and were going to work to make things work. (Plus sex with an artist was always good, because the passion to his art translated to his passion for Jimin).

(“Hey Yoongi, what do you think about introducing Hoseok to Namjoon? I think they’d get along really well!” Jimin asked, their genius of a friend had just gotten back from a business trip and Jimin wondered what it’d be like to introduce the care-free Hoseok to the somewhat wound up but still Namjoon. Yoongi snorted at the question.

“Wouldn’t that be a good mix though. They’re so opposite.” Yoongi said and this time Jimin snorted a laugh.

“So are we but that didn’t stop Seokjin form introducing us now did it?” He said with a smile, leaning against the door frame and watching as Yoongi thought that one through.

“Fine, but you’re responsible for whatever mess may come from it! Just as Seokjin is responsible for the mess that is us!” Yoongi called before placing the headphones back on and Jimin rolled his eyes, though he was happy and interested to see how that would all go down.)
