Work Text:

before yoongi and jungkook were avid enthusiasts of lamb skewers, or before yoongi insisted on taking jungkook to a pub anytime they went to a foreign country just for the ‘’culture’’. they never really ate together; alone, separate, just the two of them. they still sat together at the dinner table, sharing the side dishes, pouring drinks for each other - it, just, simply never occurred to them to go out together for food?

it’s not like they never went out for food together, yoongi would offer the members a free dinner and most of the time, they would jump on the chance, but sometimes the boys would be too tired to even get up so jungkook would just wear his shoes and wait for yoongi at the door. and like relationships evolve, yoongi and jungkook began to learn more about each other, their favourite food, how maybe a couple hours after a concert they would rather go out to eat with a close one then spend time in bed scrolling through your phone, veins still buzzing a bit from all that excitement, still wanting to talk about it a bit more.

so as years pass, yoongi and jungkook began to eat out more. together. just the two of them. it begins with yoongi breathing out slow one day and dropping himself next to jungkook on the couch while he’s playing some mobile game and going, ‘’want to eat lamb skewers, kook?’’ jungkook agrees easily because jungkook doesn’t mull over it as anxiously like yoongi did before asking him, doesn’t have an existential crisis choosing his outfit for dinner like yoongi did, because maybe those friendly dinner dates meant more to yoongi than jungkook in the start. yoongi was always the one initiating their lamb skewers hangouts until one day, he wasn’t. as time evens out everything, it evened out the significance of these dinner dates between them and jungkook, too, started asking out yoongi more. yoongi wasn’t the only one wanting now.

they didn’t always eat, sometimes they didn’t eat at all, often drinking something or the other, jungkook sticking to his sweet beverages as yoongi drank his iced americano. if they desired to, they would talk to one another. if they didn’t want to, they would simply co-exist amongst each other. tapping fingers on the table, staring out of the window, sometimes pointing out something or making an observation, but never continuing the conversation, simply relaxing in each other’s presence.

yoongi likes this. their little agreement. likes it a lot. and with the way jungkook keeps coming back, never refusing, yoongi can only assume he likes it as well.

jungkook sighs as he finally enters his room, it’s only the second day of them being in hong kong, he still hasn’t gotten used to everything foreign again, but he’s definitely better since yesterday. he cracks his neck as he sets down his phone and bucket hat, stripping off his jacket and clothes to pick out some new ones to shower in.

jungkook reviews the concert as he stands under the warm water, relaxing his muscles and letting it all go. the audience were just as excited as the first day and jungkook always thinks he could do better, but he also thinks he did pretty good. he’s always trying out new things, new moves, new vocal techniques, and there’s a thrill that can’t be compared to when those things are well received, so, yeah. overall, the concerts have been going well, his members are also okay, only mildly complaining about their joints and how jungkook is still too young to realise, jungkook knows for sure hoseok is just playing alone. simply, because the energy hoseok possesses is inhumane. he is not human and those are the facts.

jungkook chuckles to himself due to the direction his thoughts have taken and exits the shower, reaching towards the towel to dry himself before slipping on his sweatpants. he forgot his shirt outside the bathroom, dang. he’s still drying his hair when he exits his bathroom and almost has a heart attack.

‘’oh, hyung! when did you come in?’’

on his bed, yoongi has occupied some space for himself. sitting criss cross in the center of his bed, hunched over his phone, idly scrolling. it seems like he’s already showered and dried his hair, wearing another one of his all black outfits. jungkook would say they all look the same but that would be pretty hypocritical of him. once jungkook wears his shirt, it’d be like they’re a couple matching their clothes now.

‘’hmm, just a little while ago,’’ yoongi finally looks up and is met with a shirtless jungkook, ‘’you’re not wearing a shirt.’’

jungkook sets down his towel before replying. ‘’yeah. does that bother you?’’

yoongi snorts but his pink ears tell another story, ‘’absolutely not. there’s nothing to bother me.’’

jungkook chuckles as he nears yoongi who visibly grows more panicked with every step jungkook takes towards him. he hovers above yoongi who drops his gaze towards jungkook’s chest, scrunches his eyes shut as if he regrets his decision, and opens them again to be met with the face of an amused jungkook. jungkook raises his arm and picks up his shirt from where it was behind yoongi. he slips it on with ease and grins at yoongi.

‘’of course. you shouldn’t be bothered at all.’’

‘’i hate you.’’ yoongi pouts.

‘’no, you don’t.’’ jungkook seats himself next to yoongi. ‘’any reason you decided to come?’’

yoong hums, stretching his arms ahead of him before looking back at jungkook, his bangs slipping into his eyes. ‘’we’re going out to eat.’’

jungkook grins, ‘’oh, are we? who decided that?’’

yoongi scrunches his nose. ‘’fine, if you don’t want to go, i’m sure namjoon is still awake.’’

jungkook knows he’s not going to leave but still slings his arm around yoongi’s shoulder and drags him closer, preventing him from getting up or even moving, ‘’ah, hyung, don’t be like that~ i’ll bless you with my presence!’’

‘’stop hanging out with seokjin hyung, he’s an awful influence.’’

‘’you say this like you’re not the same.’’

yoongi squints his eyes.

‘’hehe, okay, i’m sorry.’’ jungkook knows he doesn’t sound sorry at all. ‘’where are we going?’’

yoongi pulls up his phone with the location, ‘’i searched up a 24/7 soup place nearby and this one had the best ratings.’’ yoongi smiles mischievously, ‘’they also have a decent amount of alcohol listed online.’’

‘’ah, yes, drinking after a concert is the best.’’

‘’exactly! let’s go!’’

the night is just as silent and pleasant as jungkook expected, the air in hong kong is way better so he forgoes wearing a mask despite his manager’s displeased stare, making do with a bucket hat to disguise his identity. yoongi’s by his side as they walk to the restaurant, his headphones hang around his neck and jungkook can see his whole face lit up by the moonlight since he decided to wear a beanie, his bangs stuffed underneath it.

something about these friendly dinner dates always leave jungkook in a giddy mood, no matter how busy his day was, no matter how tired he was. something about one on one interactions with yoongi leaves him with a fluttering feeling. jungkook knows never to think about it too much since he would end up with a conclusion he wouldn’t know how to handle.

so for now, he’s always excited about hanging out with yoongi. yeah, the managers are still there but they always seat themselves away from the duo to give them their privacy despite yoongi’s whiny complaints and pouts. and before jungkook can think about it too much, an all too familiar hand wraps itself around jungkook’s wrist. jungkook looks at yoongi who’s softly smiling at him. ‘’we’re here.’’

jungkook smiles back.

the place is just as modest as yoongi described and jungkook swiftly bows to the owner who enthusiastically ushers them to a vacant tables. well, all of them are, actually. jungkook orders a decent amount of chicken soup for both him and yoongi but it seems like they might be drinking more tonight due to yoongi’s order.

yoongi cracks open the first 稠酒 before jungkook even finishes his first spoonful of chicken soup. he takes a sip and jungkook tries very hard not to focus on the sharp curve of yoongi’s jawline or how pretty his fingers look as they wrap around the bottle. jungkook tries very hard not to, okay, but he’s only human and he can’t help but glance for a few seconds. his heart beats a little faster. he forces another spoonful of soup in his mouth and swallows it down hastily even though the soup is still hot. yoongi notices jungkook’s face scrunch up in pain and quickly offers his bottle towards jungkook. jungkook accepts it with a grimace and gulps down half of the bottle in one go.

‘’is that how you’re gonna drink the whole time? ‘cause that’s pretty worrying.’’

jungkook snorts, ‘’i’m totally okay with handling my alcohol.’’

‘’better than taehyung, sure,’’ yoongi shrugs.

jungkook gasps. ‘’tae-hyung doesn’t even drink alcohol!’’

yoongi only laughs at jungkook’s offended face, all gummy grins and scrunched eyes and something in jungkook’s heart clenches. in pain. or in love. it’s basically the same thing. jungkook pushes the bowl of soup towards yoongi without another word and his huge grin fades into something fonder, something dripping with adoration as he smiles at jungkook. he sets on drinking the soup and jungkook resorts to looking out the window. hong kong is pretty. he quietly sips on the bottle of 稠酒 and distantly wonders that it tastes like makgeolli, he distantly wonders if they’ll go out to drink alone sometime back home.

he’s gently guided out of his thoughts with a slight tap at his shoulder. he turns towards yoongi who’s pushing a spoonful of soup towards him. oh. yoongi is feeding him. and both of them are blushing now. it’s not from the alcohol and jungkook knows that for sure. he lets yoongi feed him and the rest of the night goes like this.

with soft touches, softer smiles, hushed whispers about everything and nothing, jungkook and yoongi gravitate towards each other until there is absolutely no space left in between them. they keep unintentionally touching each other as well. sometimes yoongi will gently flick jungkook’s earring if he spaces out, and jungkook will place his hand over yoongi’s so he can feed him again. sometime in the late night, yoongi drops his hand from the table, jungkook follows it, and they loosely hold hands for the rest of their stay.

at one point jungkook takes off his bucket hat to brush out his hair and yoongi, kind of, stares at him for like a minute or two.

‘’you’ve grown up well,’’ yoongi shyly mutters.

‘’can’t say the same about you, hyung.’’ jungkook cheekily grins.

yoongi groans. ‘’let’s just go.’’

/

the walk back isn’t that different, maybe jungkook’s considerably drunker, maybe yoongi is as well. they still haven’t stopped holding hands, yoongi stuffed both of their hands in his coat’s pocket and jungkook simply understood that he was just bound to suffer in life. yoongi’s talking but it’s so soft that jungkook doesn’t know if he’s talking to himself or if jungkook should listen more intently. they’re about halfway to the hotel when yoongi abruptly stops.

‘’why don’t we do this more, kook?’’

jungkook can’t stop his smile even if he wanted to. ‘’i don’t know, hyung.’’

yoongi hums, nods as if he’s set a resolution for himself. ‘’we should do this more often!’’ he nods again as if confirming this plan to himself.

‘’whatever you want, hyung.’’ jungkook huddles even closer than humanly possible and yoongi lets go of his hand just to wrap his arm around jungkook and that's how they end up back in their separate rooms. well, that’s what jungkook assumed.

but when he wakes up, he’s not the only one in his bed. yoongi is cuddled close to his chest, snoring softly, all curled up like he usually does. jungkook finds his arms wrapped around yoongi’s small waist and he smiles, pleased and feeling all types of warm. he feels a shift in his relationship with yoongi and he’s quite excited for it.

he doesn’t know why he woke up but surely it’s nothing important. he plants a small kiss to yoongi’s head and goes back to sleep. on his bedside table, jungkook’s phone lights up again and again with notifications from namjoon to get his ass downstairs, goddammit jungkook, we’re gonna be late for lunch.
