Work Text:

Sunlight filtered in through your blinds. You groaned at the thought of even getting up so early just when your break had started, but you’d already made a promise. Your friend, Mina, had planned a little get-together for the two of you due to getting surprisingly good grades on your final test of the year. You were grateful for the grade and a chance to celebrate, but unfortunately she didn’t plan on telling you what you were going to do at 6 in the morning. While you weren’t excited for the waking up part, you’d been feeling giddy about the thought of anything close to a date with your crush. (Of course, you still wanted yourself to think that this was simply just you being affectionate with your friend, but it couldn’t be explained why your stomach felt funny whenever she got too close, or how your face heat up when she hugged you too tightly.)

With another puff of some perfume you heard a knock at the door of your dorm room. Opening the door there stood Mina, with an obnoxiously happy smile for someone that just woke up. You noticed a basket and a tote bag at her side.

“Good morning, you ready?” she spoke cheerfully.

“Yeah,” you said, grabbing a bag of your personal belongings then walking out after her, “But where exactly are we going?”

“Well you’ll just have to see,” Mina replied with a slight shrug.

As you two walked out the dorm building, it was quite obvious that no one was awake yet. The usual chatter of the 1A dorms now was replaced with light humming of the AC. The thought of everyone else still sleeping in their comfortable beds made you yawn, but the weariness immediately wore off when the sun hit your skin. The warmth felt nice, yet the contrast of the sharp sun to the still dim inside was a little bit jarring. It was early in the morning, so it hopefully wouldn’t get too humid yet, and you could enjoy the light breeze until the afternoon. When you looked over at Mina she also seemed to be having the same thoughts as you. Her pink skin almost glowed in the early sun, and her short hair shaken by the slight breeze. You kept stealing glances at her, though soon you opted to looking down at the pavement, because getting caught staring would be too embarrassing for you to handle this sleep-deprived.

After a fair bit of walking and some friendly chatter you two arrived at a… park? You were curious as to what she’d had planned. She had hyped up this day for a while and you assumed you wouldn’t need to get up at 6 for a quick stroll around the park. It wouldn’t matter though, as lots of different flowers would be blooming this month and it’d be pretty to see the colorful gardens. While thinking, you felt something at your hand.

“Do you mind if I-?” Mina asked.

“Uh no, not at all!” you replied with a nervous chuckle.

Hand in hand you two walked, your face cherry red the entire time, before you arrived at the other side of a lake. Mina glanced around as if searching for something, and then she squeezed your hand a little before leading you over to a clearing underneath a tree.

“Here we are,” She said turning over to you to see your response.

Your confused expression said everything. Quickly she took something out of the basket she was carrying and laid it down on the ground. A blanket.

“Are we going to have a picnic?”
