Work Text:

He used to wake up to the sound of birds chirping. The soft swish of the ocean as it met the shore and crashed into the sand. He loved the sound and the overall peacefulness of it all, but that didn’t rule out the fact that he would wake up and lay in bed alone, with the small pang in his chest and the thought that he may never meet someone who he would love and who in return would love him as much as he loved the serene view he woke up to every morning.

Jungkook would lay in bed every morning thinking that he would never be good enough for anybody, that nobody would ever love him enough to call him theirs. But that all changed his sophomore year of college when he strolled into his art class - a little late - the third week and  noticed a new student who he’d never seen before. He never really paid attention, with the class being early in the morning and all, but he was sure he would have never missed someone as gorgeous as the man who was sitting on the other side of the room, clearly a little out of place.

Jungkook swears he had never seen a man as beautiful as the one who caught his attention right when he walked into the room, what with the bright orange hair he had with the cropped jeans and teal bomber jacket. He knew how it felt to feel out of place, that was him on the first day of classes, not knowing at all where to go. He felt bad for the boy, so he set his things down and walked over to the new student and stretched his arm out, waiting for him to take it. The boy slowly lifted his head up once he noticed that there was someone standing in front of him, and started at Jungkook with a puzzled look on his face.

“Hi, I’m Jungkook. I’ve never seen you in class before.  Are you new?”

The boy looked at him, a small but shy smile starting to spread across his face. The boy reached out and took Jungkook’s outstretched hand.

“I’m Jimin, I’m a transfer and got added to the class late so I don’t really know anybody or where I was going at first, but it’s nice to meet you.”

Jungkook returned the smile, and from the way that Jimin held his hand for a little too long and looked at him with a small glint in his eye, Jungkook could feel that the two of them would get along just fine.

That’s how Jungkook got to where he is today. Waking up to those sounds of birds chirping and the sound of the ocean hitting the shorelines that he was used to ever since childhood. But now, it was a bit different. Now, Jungkook has the two things he loves the most in the world. His memories from his past and a beautiful Park Jimin who is sound asleep, huddled up with his face pressed against Jungkook’s chest as little noises leave him as he continues to sleep.

Jungkook never thought he’d ever get to this point in life where he’d have the two most important things in his life all in the same place. He loves Jimin so much so that sometimes it hurts.  Especially when he’s fast asleep like he is right now, completely void to the world.

Jungkook is usually the first one to wake up, and for this he was grateful. It’s a Sunday morning, both boys not having anything to do for the rest of the day, except basking in the presence of each other. It is days like these that are Jungkook’s favorite. They could just lay around in bed all morning, sharing cuddles and whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears.

Jungkook smiles to himself as he lets himself think about how much he loves Jimin and treasures every single moment the two share together. He slowly pulls himself away from the sleeping boy and props himself up on his arm and stares down at the beautiful boy sleeping soundly next to him.

Some days, he still doesn’t know how he got this lucky to have Jimin in his life. To have Jimin love him as much as he knows he does. They’ve been together for about two years now, but they’ve never told each other they loved each other, at least not out loud. Jungkook would have thought that he needed to hear those words, but it was an unspoken statement that he didn’t need to hear in order for him to know that Jimin loved him and it went the same way for Jimin as well. They shared their unspoken confessions in the way that Jimin kisses Jungkook’s forehead every time he leaves for work, in the way that Jimin wraps his arms around his waist and settles his head against his back as he stands at the stove cooking dinner for them both after a long day at work, in the small looks they give each other when they’re in a room full of people but it feels like they’re the only ones there in that moment.

He smiles to himself again at the thought and brings his free hand to brush through Jimin’s bangs and push them out of his face to see his eyes fluttering as he sleeps The soft little things like this makes Jungkook’s heart flutter, makes him feel like there’s nothing else that matters in the world.

Jimin stirs a little as Jungkook pushes his hair out of his eyes and cards his hand through his messy locks. Jungkook thinks Jimin is the cutest like this as he cuddles in even closer to Jungkook as he continues to run his hands through his hair. Jimin makes these little incoherent noises as he settles into Jungkook’s embrace, now half laying on his stomach.

Jungkook brings his hand down from Jimin’s head and brings it down to rub at his back, making small little circles as Jimin continues to sleep beside him.

It’s times like these where Jungkook just wishes he has the guts to tell Jimin he loves him. He knows that he knows and he’s been fine without the spoken confession, but there has always been that part of Jungkook that wants Jimin to know; to really know how he feels, and sometimes he’s not sure how to show it. But as he lays there with Jimin in his arms peacefully asleep on this Sunday morning, Jungkook thinks he’s ready to finally vocalize how he feels about Jimin.

He continues to rub circles against Jimin’s back as he leans down and presses a kiss to his forehead. He’s positive that Jimin is fast asleep, there’s no doubt about it by the way the older hasn’t moved an inch since Jungkook began to rub circles into his back.

Even though he’s been up for a while, Jungkook is still incredibly tired. As much as he loves being awake to witness Jimin like this, he feels himself falling back into slumber as he continues to lull Jimin - and himself now - to sleep.

Before Jungkook lulls himself to sleep, he wants to make sure that he shows Jimin how much he loves him. Jimin may be asleep, but there’s some part of Jungkook that is afraid to tell Jimin his feelings, so maybe it’s best that Jimin is asleep so that he can lighten the load a little bit; make it easier for him to make his confession for when Jimin is actually awake.

Jungkook takes his hand, and instead of rubbing circles into Jimin’s back, he begins to tilt his finger a little bit and begins writing words into Jimin’s back. He knows it’s nothing, Jimin’s asleep and will wake up and have no idea about what Jungkook is doing, but there’s still that small bit of uncertainty in Jungkook’s chest.

Jungkook swallows the little lump that has formed in his throat and continues to trace “I love you” into the smooth expanse of Jimin’s back. He keeps tracing it over and over again, as if making up for the times where he’s wanted to tell Jimin he loved him but he was too scared.

As he does this, Jungkook himself begins to get a little sleepy, the repetition making his eyes get heavier and heavier. After tracing his confession into Jimin’s skin for what seems like a lifetime, Jungkook’s hand finally falls to the side as he finds himself falling asleep with a smile on his face, happy that he was finally able to confess, even though Jimin may not know.

The two of them fall into a deep slumber for what seems like forever, until Jimin begins to shuffle, a small smile spreading across his face as he burrows himself closer into Jungkook’s embrace. He leans forwards a little, closing the space between them, and presses a soft kiss to Jungkook’s forehead and whispers, “I love you too.”
