Work Text:

Jimin and Taehyung led busy lives. Having a child between two working parents wasn’t the easiest, but they somehow made it work. Taehyung got off work a little earlier than Jimin, almost two hours earlier. This allows the younger dad to pick up their daughter from preschool while Jimin finishes off at work, though Taehyung does need to go into work a little earlier than the other.

They didn’t mind though because they’re able to spend the evenings and weekends together.

However, the past week has been long and messy, Jimin having to work into the evening while Taehyung’s hours have been changed to evening hours while a colleague was off sick from the weather change.

Taehyung usually loves the seasons changing, from winter to spring. It was when the cherry blossoms bloomed and when the skies were a clear blue. But Taehyung’s barely seen his husband and daughter for the past week so he hasn’t been able to enjoy it.

“Taehyung, please stop saying thank you,” Seokjin sighs into the phone. “I told you I didn’t mind picking Hyunmi up, I pick up Sohye from the same class anyway. It’s no hassle.”

“But hyung—” Taehyung tries to say, balancing his phone between his ear and shoulder while he gathers up some paperwork he needs to file away before leaving for the evening.

“Honestly, don’t stress— Hyunmi-yah, please don’t run, your dads will kill me if you get hurt,” Seokjin’s voice is muffled, the phone probably held away from his ear. “Hold Sohye’s hand.”

“See,” the younger boy places down the papers in his hand on the table as he whines. “She’s causing you trouble.”

Seokjin doesn’t reply for a few seconds, his voice sounding far away as he instructs the girls to stay by him. Taehyung can hear them giggle and he smiles, his heart warming up.

“She’s four, almost five, Taehyung,” the smile can be heard in the older boy’s voice. “Obviously she’ll cause me trouble. What’s a kid without trouble? The amount of trouble Sohye causes me and Namjoon is unreal.”

Taehyung sighs, running a hand through his hair, messing it up more than it already was.

“Okay, I’m gonna get the girls in the car and prepare myself for Jimin’s thank you call,” Seokjin starts and Taehyung lets out a soft laugh. “I’ll get her fed once we’re back at mine and you’ll pick her up…?”

“In an hour,” the younger boy informs. “Thank you again, hyung.”

“Of course, Tae, anytime. See you soon.”

Taehyung removes the phone from his ear, hangs up and locks the device, placing it down on his desk. He picks up the papers in front of him again and gets to work, motivated, wanting to see his daughter and get home to see his husband.

Today being Friday, Taehyung has the weekend off as well as Jimin having a few days off too. They could finally spend time together as a family rather than coming home at odd hours during the evening.

Jimin being home earlier than the younger, picked up Hyunmi from Seokjin and Namjoon’s for the past week, spending time with her before Taehyung came home just before a sleepy Hyunmi was put to bed, the parents soon following suit.

And for the first time in four days, Taehyung is happy and relieved. His colleague is finally back after being sick so he had his usual hours today, though he had to stay for a few hours longer to make sure he’s gotten everything done after the messy week it’s been. Jimin is also going be a little late home, but Taehyung doesn’t mind because they will finally be able to spend time together as a family before their daughter has to be put to bed.

Half an hour later, Taehyung’s done with his tasks for the day, having no more clients and no more paperwork to do.

He sighs, a small smile on his face as he logs out of the computer on his desk and starts packing up his belongings, taking anything that belongs at home. Having to work night hours, Taehyung has accumulated a lot of things from home to make him less grumpy and annoyed.

Once Taehyung has signed out of work, he starts his way to Seokjin’s place, but not before letting him know.

taehyung
hyung i just got off work
i’ll be there in fifteen x

Taehyung doesn’t get a reply, but Seokjin has two children to watch so the younger boy knows it’s because he's preoccupied with something.

He’s about to start his car before he remembers Jimin asked him to message before he got off for work. He reaches over to the passenger’s seat to grab his phone.

taehyung
jiminie
i just finished work
im going to pick up hyunmi now
i’ll see you at home?

Unlike Seokjin, Jimin replies a few seconds later.

jiminie
yeah i finish work in about two hours so i’ll see you soon
i love you baby
tell hyunmi i love her too and i’ll see her in a bit

taehyung
i will
i love you more

Taehyung arrives at Seokjin’s house almost half an hour later; it being almost rush hour, there was a lot of traffic.

“Daddy.” Hyunmi squeals, squeezing past Seokjin’s legs once the front door was opened.

“Baby.” Taehyung mimics, a wide grin on his face as he picks his daughter up, kissing all over her face.

“Missed you,” Hyunmi pushes her dad’s face away, placing a wet kiss on his cheek before she rests her head on his shoulder. But she lifts her head up again, looking over Taehyung’s shoulder, outside. “Where’s Appa?”

“Appa’s going home in a bit, we’ll see him there.”

Hyunmi pouts at Taehyung’s words and sighs, placing her head back on his shoulder and the boy presses a kiss to her hair.

Taehyung turns his attention to Seokjin who’s still standing in front of him. The older boy has a small smile on his face.

“Thank you again, hyungie.” Taehyung says for about the hundredth time that day.

"It was nothing," Seokjin shakes his head, reaching over to pat the boy’s arm. “Aren’t you gonna come in?”

“No, I’m sorry,” Taehyung frowns. “I wanna get home with Hyunmi, it’s been a long day.”

“I understand.”

“Where’s Sohye and Namjoon hyung? I wanna say bye before I go.” The younger boy glances behind Seokjin, looking for the two people.

“Namjoon’s still at work, Friday's a busy day,” Seokjin informs the boy and then turn his head to call out, “Sohye! Come say bye to Hyunmi and Taehyung.

A few seconds later, little footsteps can be heard as Sohye comes running out of the living room. “Hyunmi’s leaving?” She pouts, looking up at her dad.

“You’ll see her at school, baby.” Seokjin says, pouting back at her at the same time Hyunmi says, “Bye bye, Sohye unnie.”

The little girl turns her attention to Taehyung and her best friend. “Bye bye, Hyunmi-yah. Bye bye, samchon.” She sighs, her eyes downcast.

Taehyung frowns, “Don’t be sad, Sohye, you’ll see her soon.” He reaches down, ruffling the small girl’s hair.

After they’ve all said their goodbyes, Taehyung and Hyunmi start their way home. They make small talk in the car, while Hyunmi talks animatedly about her day at school, saying she was sad in the morning because she missed her dads, but Sohye soon cheered her up.

Taehyung’s thankful Hyunmi has Sohye.

“Okay, do you want your bath now or before you sleep?” Taehyung asks his daughter as he takes her school bag and jacket, hanging them up in the hallway.

Hyunmi pauses taking her shoes off and thinks for a few seconds before, “Will you and Appa both give me a bath if I choose later?”

He nods, “Before bed then.” Taehyung smiles at the grin that slips onto his daughter’s face. “Take your shoes off and go upstairs to wash your hands and face. Then you can come downstairs to help Daddy cook dinner.”

Hyunmi eyes widen because she’s not usually allowed in the kitchen, Jimin and Taehyung afraid she might get hurt, but Taehyung makes an exception since it’s only the two of them home right now.

She does as she’s told and starts her way upstairs.

“Be careful. Carefully, okay?”

“Okay!” The small girl yells, her voice quieting as she goes further into the house.

Taehyung makes his way into the kitchen and washes and dries his hands first before he pulls out some items from the fridge. They had quite a few leftovers from the past few days so the boy decides to make sure they don't go to waste and make a meal out of them.

Hyunmi soon comes running downstairs, excited and both dad and daughter get to work.

Jimin is a little late home. It’s almost seven, but there’s always traffic on the way to and back from work so Taehyung understands.

“Appa! Appa!” Hyunmi yells, excited when she hears the key in the door.

Taehyung helps her off the chair she was standing on and once she’s on the floor, she runs to the front door, running straight into Jimin’s legs and wraps her arms around them.

The younger boy follows behind her, a soft smile slipping onto his face at his husband and daughter.

“My sweet baby,” Jimin murmurs as he bends down to pick Hyunmi up, placing a kisses all over her face. “I missed you so much.”

She giggles, “Missed you more.” The girl mumbles, burying her face into her dad’s neck.

Taehyung watches from the doorway of the kitchen. Jimin looks up and their eyes meet, a smile slipping onto Jimin’s face.

“My other sweet baby,” he speaks as he walks over to Taehyung, Hyunmi still in his arms. “Did you miss me?”

Taehyung laughs softly, leaning down to press a kiss to the older boy’s lips. “I’ve been missing you since Monday.”

Jimin sighs, smile turning into a frown. “This week has been so hectic. Our normal routines have been so messy and Hyunmi hasn’t been able to come straight home after school. She hasn’t even seen us both together since last weekend apart from the mornings, and even then, it's not for long. And I haven't seen you all week apart from when we’re in bed.”

Taehyung glances at Hyunmi, but she’s not paying attention, head resting on Jimin’s shoulder as she fiddles with his necklace, Taehyung owning a matching pair.

The younger boy reaches for his husband’s hand and intertwines their fingers, giving his hand a light squeeze. “We have this weekend. Our schedules are also back to normal from Monday.”

Jimin closes his eyes before opening them again a few seconds later, nodding. “You’re right.”

“Go freshen up and then we’ll eat,” Taehyung takes Hyunmi from Jimin’s arms and she whines, but doesn’t resist. “I love you.”

Jimin smiles, though it’s a tired smile, “I love you more,” He leans up, pressing a kiss to Taehyung’s temple and, “And I love you,” a kiss to their daughter’s hair before he makes his way upstairs.

The younger boy walks back into the kitchen and puts Hyunmi down on the kitchen chair as he carries on putting the food, plates and cutlery out.

“I want Appa.” Hyunmi pouts, crossing her arms over her chest as she sits down on the chair.

Taehyung glances at his daughter, rolling his eyes playfully. “Appa will come down in a bit, stop pouting.”

She doesn’t and makes her pout bigger.

“Yah,” the dad bends down so he’s his daughter’s height. “You have me. I can’t believe you like Appa more than me.”

This causes Hyunmi’s eyes to widen, panic flashing through them, “No! I love you, too.”

Taehyung sighs sadly, looking away from Hyunmi’s gaze.

“Daddy,” Hyunmi whines, placing her small hands on either of her dad’s cheeks to turn his head back to her. “Love you loads. Appa’s been working lots today, that’s why I miss him,” the small girl places a wet kiss on her dad’s cheek.

The boy grins, taking both of her hands and kisses them before kissing her forehead. “I know, baby. Love you more.”

“I want kisses!” A voice from behind Taehyung speaks.

When Hyunmi looks up and sees Jimin, she quickly pats Taehyung on the head before she gets off the chair and rushes over to him, into his waiting and outstretched arms. Once she’s picked up and can reach Jimin’s head, she presses a kiss to his cheek.

“There,” she says, patting his cheek, satisfied. “You got a kiss.”

“My beautiful baby.” Jimin whispers fondly and Hyunmi grins.

Taehyung looks on, affection flooding his body and warming his heart. “Come on. Let’s eat before it gets cold.”

Jimin doesn’t move and looks at his husband expectantly.

Confused, Taehyung asks, “What?”

The older boy sighs dramatically, “I got a kiss from one of my babies, but not the other.”

Taehyung raises an eyebrow.

Jimin lets out another dramatic sigh, not moving from where his standing.

“Why are you like this?” The taller mutters, walking over to him before giving him a kiss on his lips.

“Okay!” Jimin is pleased and Hyunmi giggles. “Let’s eat. We haven’t eaten as a family in so long.”

When they’re all settled around the kitchen table, food on their plates, the older boy speaks up, addressing his daughter first.

“Hyunnie, how was school?”

Taehyung smiles softly when he sees their daughter’s eyes light up, ready to tell her dad about her day. He glances at Jimin and he looks enamoured.

“School was boring because I missed you and Daddy, but I had fun with Sohye unnie.”

The rest of dinner is filled with giggles as Hyunmi tells her dads one of her many stories. She loses her place a few times so she starts again, but Taehyung and Jimin just look on fondly.

It’s quarter to eight once they’ve all finished dinner and Taehyung and Jimin have washed up. It took longer than usual since they had to pause a few to times, sneaking kisses while Hyunmi was in the living room, watching television.

“I really missed you this past week.” Taehyung murmurs, his arms wrapped around Jimin’s waist, Jimin’s hands around his neck as they stood in the middle of the kitchen.

The love Taehyung had for Jimin and Hyunmi would never compare to anything. Jimin had been with him throughout everything he faced in life and he will never be more grateful. And because of Jimin, they were able to adopt Hyunmi. Without Jimin, he wouldn’t have anything he has now.

“I missed you, too,” Jimin hums, looking at his husband with love in his eyes. “I can’t believe a few days have made us more clingy than usual.”

Taehyung doesn’t pay attention. “You mean the world to me, you know that right?”

The older boy pauses and then smiles, the smile that makes his eyes disappear. “I do, and you mean as much to me, probably more.”

Jimin leans up, pressing his lips against Taehyung’s and they just stand there for a bit, enjoying each other’s warmth.

“I haven’t given Hyunnie a bath yet, she wanted us both.” Taehyung tells his husband before they walk out of the kitchen and into the living room.

Jimin nods and picks up Hyunmi who’s sitting on the sofa, surrounded by the big pillows that make her look tiny. She tears her gaze from the television to look at her dad.

“Daddy tells me you haven’t had a bath yet, stinky.” Jimin teases, kissing Hyunmi’s nose.

Hyunmi pouts and looks over at Taehyung. “Daddy, Appa called me stinky.” She reaches out for him.

Taehyung laughs softly, taking Hyunmi from Jimin’s arms and she lays her head on his shoulder, frowning at her other dad.

“Yah, Park Hyunmi,” Jimin pretends to be offended. “You’re my favourite stinky.”

Hyunmi, knowing her dad is playing around, smiles a little before she shakes her head and hides her face in Taehyung’s neck.

The taller boy starts walking away with their daughter as Jimin yells from behind.

“Hyunmi, you’re not stinky. Do you still love Appa?”

“Nope.”

Taehyung just shakes his head fondly, walking into the bathroom to get the bath ready.

“Jiminie!” Taehyung shouts down the stairs before entering the bathroom. “Can you shut all the curtains and make sure the doors are locked before coming upstairs, please?”

“Alright!”

The younger boy places Hyunmi on her feet beside the bath. Taehyung turns the taps on before plugging the bath so the water can heat up.

“Bubbles?” Hyunmi questions from beside Taehyung as she peers into the bath.

Taehyung puts his hand under the running water and when he decides that the water is hot enough, he puts the plug in the bathtub, letting it fill up slowly. He turns to his daughter, “Yeah, sure, baby. Go get it for me.”

The small girl grins and nods, running to the sink to get the bubble bath which is in the cupboards underneath it. Jimin always wants the bathroom clean and tidy so he puts everything away, which is a hassle for Taehyung because he has to get what he needs for a shower out again every night.

Hyunmi goes back over to her dad, both hands holding onto the slightly heavy bottle. Taehyung takes it from her hands and unscrews the lid, pouring some over where the water is running. Bubbles start forming immediately and Hyunmi giggles, always excited by a bubble bath.

Jimin soon walks into the bathroom and up to Taehyung, placing a kiss on his cheek. “I got Hyunnie’s pyjamas out.”

Taehyung smiles, grateful.

“Hyunmi, come here.” Jimin calls and the girl comes running over.

The dad bends down so he’s her height as he starts taking off the clothes Taehyung picked out earlier this morning and takes her hair out of the half ponytail he did while getting her ready for school.

Once Hyunmi’s ready to get into the bath, the bath is ready too so Jimin helps her into the bath and she's squeals as soon her legs are in the water. She clings onto Jimin, looking at the water warily.

“Is it too hot?” Taehyung panics, feeling the water and so does Jimin. Even though this happens every bath time, the two dads just want to make sure.

Jimin shakes his head. “It’s fine, she just needs to get used to the water.”

Hyunmi is still clinging onto Jimin, but he eases her into the water. Once she's in, both boys allow her to play with the bubbles for a bit before they start cleaning her.

“Appa? Daddy?” Hyunmi looks up, getting her dads’ attention.

“Yeah, baby?” Jimin asks, moving away wet strands of hair away from her face.

“Can we go to the park tomorrow? With Sohye unnie?”

They look at each other before shrugging.

“Sure, why not? I’ll ask Seokjin and Namjoon if they’re up for it.” Taehyung agrees, lightly splashing Hyunmi.

Bath time doesn’t last too long. Hyunmi is clearly sleepy, her eyes heavy. It’s been a long day.

Taehyung and Jimin finish up, washing her small body and hair, rinsing with clean water before getting her out, wrapping her a big, purple towel.

They take her into her room and get her dressed and ready for bed, making sure her hair is dry so she doesn’t catch a cold.

As soon as Hyunmi’s tucked into bed after brushing her teeth, she’s almost asleep so Taehyung and Jimin kiss her goodnight.

They’re about to slip out of the room when she whines, “I’m still awake.”

The dads look at each other and laugh softly.

“Sorry, baby.” They both apologise before they walk over to either side of her bed, laying down beside her even though there’s barely any space.

Ten minutes later, when both Jimin and Taehyung are sure Hyunmi is asleep, they slowly and quietly get up to leave.

“I don’t wanna shower,” Taehyung complains, falling back onto his and Jimin’s shared bed when they're finally in their room. “I’m tired and lazy. I wanna sleep.”

Jimin smiles, fond before crawling onto the bed, laying down beside his husband. As he cuddles up to him, he says, “You can always shower tomorrow morning.”

Taehyung frowns, turning to face the shorter boy. “That’ll ruin my schedule of night showers.”

“You can shower in the evening again,” Jimin suggest, running his hand up and down Taehyung’s chest. “We’re probably going to the park tomorrow so you’ll feel dirty after and wanna shower anyway.”

“That’s so much work.” The younger boy whines, pulling Jimin close and closing his eyes.

The older playfully rolls his eyes, “I give you a solution and you complain.”

They stay in silence for a few minutes, eyes closed and fingers fiddling.

“Are you gonna shower?”

“Depends on what you do.” Jimin answers.

“Hmm,” Taehyung hums, opening his eyes to stare at the ceiling, contemplating. “Let’s get washed up and changed then, so we can sleep. I missed you and I wanna cuddle.”

Jimin laughs softly and nods, sitting up so they can get changed into comfier clothes and brush their teeth.

Ten minutes later, the two boys are finally in bed, legs tangled as they face each other, arms around the other.

“I love you so so so much,” Jimin says, placing a kiss on the younger’s nose, right where his mole is. “I’m so glad I asked you to marry me.”

“Uh,” Taehyung raises an eyebrow and shakes his head. “No, I asked you to marry me.”

“I can’t believe we were planning to propose on the same night.” Jimin sighs. He's happy and content.

“Hey, Hoseok and Yoongi said it would be the perfect time.”

“Seokjin and Namjoon said the same thing to me,” the shorter boy smiles, fondly recalling the memory. “And Jeongguk complained that neither of us asked him for help.”

Taehyung lets out a laugh, thinking about that night. “Also, I love you more.” He leans forward, pressing a long kiss to Jimin’s lips and Jimin can’t help but grin into the kiss.

A knock at their bedroom door breaks them apart and the door is pushed open.

“Daddy? Appa?” Hyunmi’s voice calls, soft and timid.

Jimin turns around and Taehyung sits up quickly. “Baby, what’s wrong? Why are you awake?”

Hyunmi’s small hands hold a stuffed bunny that Jeongguk got her to her chest. “Can I sleep with you?”

Jimin looks at Taehyung for a second before looking back at their daughter. “Of course, my baby. Come here.”

Jimin and Taehyung know they’re probably spoiling Hyunmi, but they can’t help it, she’s their only child.

The older boy pulls Hyunmi onto the bed, in between him and Taehyung and Taehyung immediately kisses all over her face.

“Why aren’t you asleep?” He asks, his cheek pressed against hers.

“I was,” she starts and hesitates, but Taehyung urges her to carry on. “But I woke up and missed you and Appa.”

Taehyung and Jimin both pout before they’re both at her side, squeezing her in a hug.

“We love you.” Jimin speaks for the both of them.

Hyunmi struggles in their grasp, trying to sit up so both boys loosen their grip. She sits up and kisses Jimin’s cheek before also kissing Taehyung’s.

“Love you.” She says, getting comfortable under the covers again and closing her eyes.

Jimin and Taehyung lock eyes and they smile.

This is all they need.
