Work Text:

Serizawa woke to the smell of coffee. With a groan he thrust his arm forward to the other side of the bed, feeling for his partner, who was evidently gone. After sufficiently rubbing the sleep out of his face, he opened his eyes to morning.

He was usually awake before Reigen, who was a very heavy sleeper and a bit of a night owl. Lifting his phone from the bedside table, Serizawa squinted at his phone to check the time. It was only eight a.m., the time he usually woke up on days off. Reigen must have woken up early for some reason.

Serizawa’s thoughts were interrupted by the man himself quietly stepping into the room, holding his favorite mug filled with coffee. His eyebrows perked up when he saw Serizawa sitting upright.

“Ah, you’re awake?” he said with a small smile. “Took you long enough, sleepyhead.” Reigen walked to Serizawa’s side, planting a kiss on his forehead and handing the mug over.

“Hey, I always wake up at this time,” Serizawa responded, taking a small sip. “The coffee’s really good, babe, thank you.”

Serizawa took a steadying breath as Reigen sidled next to him in the bed, his own mug in hand. He tasted his handiwork, humming with his eyes closed. The steam fogged up his glasses, which he typically wore when he didn’t need to go to work.

“Mm, you’re right,” he murmured with a cocky smile. “Maybe you should leave the coffee making duties to me from now on,” he said as he gently elbowed Serizawa’s side.

He was so beautiful like this, Serizawa thought. Not made up to impress anyone, not embellishing anything. Just being Reigen Arataka. Just being here, with Serizawa. He wanted to wrap this feeling around himself like a weighted blanket.

Serizawa wrapped a hand behind Reigen’s neck, pulling him into a gentle kiss. He bumped their noses together and his face scrunched into a silly smile. Reigen giggled at the expression.

“What’s got you all sweet?” he asked with a playful grin, pushing his chest.

“I don’t know. I just think this is all so… domestic,” he said, unable to make eye contact. “You, bringing me coffee in bed, us here, like this. It’s nice.” He took another sip of his coffee.

“Well maybe I really should make you coffee more often, nerd,” Reigen teased, but the red on his cheeks betrayed his tone. He pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose before leaning in to kiss Serizawa again.

“Anyway, I’m starving,” he said as he pulled away, brushing away a strand of loose hair from his face. “I’m gonna go make breakfast.”

Serizawa just hummed in response, sipping his coffee as he watched Reigen walk into the kitchen. After taking a few minutes to scroll through his notifications from the night, Serizawa slipped on some boxers and slippers as he made his way out of bed.

Classical music and sizzling filled the room, accompanied by Reigen’s occasional humming. He was standing in front of the stove, chopsticks in hand, moving something around in the noisy pan. Serizawa stood behind him, sliding his fingers under Reigen’ shirt and gently placing his hands on his hips. He popped his head onto the other’s shoulder after giving him a sweet kiss. He looked at the stove, which was occupied with a rectangular tamagoyaki pan and another smaller pan filled with little strips of bacon and sausage. Reigen swayed his hips to the music as he gently swirled the eggs.

Serizawa closed his eyes, taking in the moment as he synchronized his movements with Reigen’s. His heart felt full.

“Hey, could you grab some plates and chopsticks?” Reigen patted one of his hands as he asked.

“’Course,” Serizawa said as he kissed Reigen’s cheek once more and got the requested materials.

They quietly ate breakfast and made small talk, listening to the music still playing from Reigen’s CD player. When they finished, Serizawa gathered up their plates and began washing them in the sink while Reigen sat on the counter.

He must have gotten bored, because he hopped down and turned the faucet off, handing Serizawa a hand towel.

“Hey, I’m not done!” he whined, looking curiously at Reigen as he dried his hands off.

Reigen pulled him away from the sink and into the living room, holding Serizawa’s hands in his. He placed them onto his hips again, this time leaning his head against Serizawa’s chest and looping his arms around his back.

“Dance with me,” he said simply, swaying the two of them together.

“So, I’m the sweet one today?” Serizawa laughed as he kissed the top of his head. He smiled as they swayed together, his heart a bit lighter due to the romantic nature of the whole thing. Even though they had been together over a year now, Reigen still made him feel like a giddy teenager, infatuated with his crush.

They moved together for a while, Reigen once again humming along to the swelling instrumentals.

“Do you know how to actually dance?” Reigen asked, out of nowhere. Serizawa felt his face redden a bit.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, this is really just swaying more than it is dancing,” Reigen leaned back to meet Serizawa’s eyes. “Do you know how to slow dance?”

Serizawa hesitated for a moment, considering his answer. Of course he didn’t know how to slow dance. He’d never had an occasion that necessitated it, like a wedding or school dance. He shook his head.

“Well then,” Reigen straightened his posture. “Guess I’ll just have to teach you.”

He placed his hands on Serizawa’s wrists, lifting them off his hips. He laced their fingers together on the right side and moved Serizawa’s left hand to his shoulder. Reigen set his own hand right above Serizawa’s hip.

“Okay, stand up straight and square your shoulders. I’m going to lead. All you have to do is go with my movements. It’s easy.” Reigen gave a small smile to Serizawa, easing his worries a bit.

Reigen pulled his right hand gently, sidestepping with the music. Serizawa’s step was a bit delayed, but Reigen didn’t seem to mind.

“Now, put your feet together again. Perfect.” Serizawa nervously smiled as he stared at their feet.

“We’re just going to move in a small circle, doing that over and over again,” Reigen said in a small, reassuring voice. “Just move with the music. Sidestep, come together. That’s it, love.”

After a few circles of the movement, Serizawa was a bit less shaky, now moving together with Reigen.

“You know, it’s bad manners to not look at your partner as you dance,” Reigen teased. Serizawa immediately looked up from the ground, realizing he had just been focusing on the floor. He blushed from embarrassment as he made eye contact with Reigen, who had a small, slick smile on his face.

They danced together, Serizawa taking in every detail of the man in front of him. His coarse strawberry blonde hair, his glasses sitting atop a dusting of freckles, his honey brown eyes, his peach colored lips, his everything. Reigen was his everything.

He leaned in to kiss him, deeper than before but still appropriate for the setting. They stilled, pausing the dance to embrace each other. Serizawa smiled against his lips.

“I love you, Arataka,” he mumbled. He felt Reigen exhale.

“I love you too, Katsu.” Reigen replied, even softer than Serizawa had said it. “So, so much. I love you so much.” he drew Serizawa into a tight hug as he ran his fingers through Serizawa’s buzzed hair. After a long moment, they drew apart, Serizawa running his thumb over Reigen’s chin as they beamed at each other.

And so, they danced.
