Work Text:
Jimin always felt like he could read people. He could tell when they were feeling upset or happy or even excited or scared. Sometimes, his mother would tell him he had a sixth sense for people’s emotions.
But then Jimin met Hoseok.
It was the first time Jimin felt absolutely dumbfounded about a person. He couldn’t figure him out. He thought he did at first but then he realised the man had layers beyond what Jimin even imagined. He could never anticipate what he’d do next. One second, Hoseok would wear his heart on his sleeve and the next, Jimin couldn’t tell. Hoseok always surprised him.
Jimin always felt drawn to his Hyung but he never acted on it but there were times when he simply looked at the other and his heart soared. He kept his feelings to himself and they only grew over time. Sometimes, he’d think Hoseok would feel the same, but he was always never sure.
“Dance with me,” Hoseok said suddenly with a wide smile, his hand stretched out. Jimin looked at him in surprise. Warmth spread to his chest as he took Hoseok’s hand and was pulled close.
“This is a really slow song,” Jimin said with a laugh.
“Then slow dance with me,” Hoseok retorted and Jimin laughed again but complied as the older led them into a bit of a silly dance. The two were alone in the studio for a few dance sessions and Hoseok just opted for them to relax and start cooling down before they headed back home.
“I don’t know this song,” Jimin muttered before he met Hoseok’s eyes. He almost gasped. There’s something about the way Hoseok looked at him that confused Jimin. It didn’t make sense in Jimin’s head. He could tell it was one filled with care but there was something else there and it confused the younger to no end.
“Just follow the beat,” Hoseok said simply before he wrapped his arms around Jimin’s waist. Jimin complied and wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s neck.
The song continued and they just swayed and looked at each other. Hoseok smiled. Jimin felt butterflies.
“This is a long song,” Jimin half whispered as they continued to sway.
“We can stop whenever,” Hoseok said quietly. Jimin didn’t want to.
A few more seconds pass of silent staring and Jimin swears they’ve moved slightly closer to each other, but he doesn’t bring it up.
“This is nice,” Jimin said, breaking eye contact to look at Hoseok’s chest. “You’re warm.”
“So are you.”
Jimin leaned forward, rested his forehead against Hoseok’s shoulder and closed his eyes.
“I feel like crying,” Jimin admitted.
“Because it’s so nice?” Hoseok asked and Jimin tightened his grip around the man.
“I don’t want to go home,” the younger said and Hoseok laughed.
“We have to at some point,” he said, “Aren’t you tired?”
“No. Just wanna stay here longer,” Jimin said simply. “With you,” he added before he looked up and met Hoseok’s eyes again, as though he was searching for something.
Hoseok sighed before he removed his arms from Jimin’s waist and instead cupped the younger’s face with his hands. Jimin then lowered his arms from around Hoseok’s neck to place his own hands over Hoseok’s.
They stopped swaying but the music played on.
“You know, we share a room,” Hoseok said, “You act like when we’re home, we can’t be-“
Jimin interrupted by resting his hands on Hoseok’s wrists and pulled them away from his face. Hoseok tilted his head in confusion until he noticed Jimin’s glassy eyes.
“Jimin,” Hoseok started softly and Jimin looked down at their feet, his hands still lightly holding onto Hoseok’s wrists.
“We can’t be what?” Jimin whispered. A beat of silence.
“Like this.”
“What is this?” the younger asked and Hoseok sighed. Before Jimin could speak again, Hoseok brought his arms up to wrap around Jimin’s shoulders and pressed their foreheads together. The pair closed their eyes.
“Whatever you want it to be,” Hoseok’s whispered before he tilted his head upward and lightly kissed Jimin’s forehead. Jimin’s heart warmed but then all of a sudden, Hoseok was gone.
Jimin opened his eyes to find Hoseok stood quite distance away from him, a smile on his face.
“Let’s go,” Hoseok said quickly as he turned around. Jimin felt an ache in his chest suddenly. “We need to get ready for-“
“Wait,” Jimin said, the desperation in his voice evident, “Let’s just wait for the song to be over.”
Hoseok stood still and stared at the younger.
“Please,” Jimin said and Hoseok smiled at him.
“I left it on repeat,” the older admitted sheepishly and then Jimin smiled.
“Let’s just dance, okay?”
“Jimin, I don’t-“
“Please,” Jimin said as he reached out and took his Hyung’s hand. “Please,” he repeated. A deep breath. “Stay with me,” Jimin whispered.
“Okay.”
Jimin wished that moment lasted forever. He revelled in the feeling of Hoseok’s arms around him, his warmth engulfing him. They’ve danced together before but never like that, never so close and never so intimate.
“I want to have you all to myself for a little longer,” Jimin said suddenly and he felt Hoseok tighten his grip on him.
“Okay,” was all Hoseok said in response.
“Jimin! Get a hold of yourself!” a voice yelled loudly.
Jimin started crying.
“No,” he muttered as he cupped Hoseok’s face and looked into his eyes.
“Don’t cry,” Hoseok said sadly.
“Please,” Jimin started but his head started to ache.
“Jimin! You need to wake up! Now!”
His vision went blurry.
“I remember this,” Jimin said as his tears flowed.
“Jimin!”
“Jimin?” a voice said loudly and Jimin opened his eyes to a bright light.
“Is he okay?” another voice said worriedly and Jimin shut his eyes tight before he opened them slowly.
“Hoseok,” Jimin said plainly as his vision cleared, “Hoseok,” he repeated as he looked around.
“Jimin, you need to lie down,” Namjoon said as he stood in front of him.
“Where’s Hoseok?” Jimin asked as he looked around, “I need to see him. I need to-“
“Breathe!” Taehyung said worriedly.
“We should’ve known this was going to happen,” Yoongi said angrily, “We warned him.”
“That’s not helping, Yoongi,” Seokjin scolded.
“Where’s Hoseok?” Jimin asked desperately as he looked between all of his friends faces. Something wasn’t right.
Where were they?
What was that place?
“Jimin, if you don’t stop moving, I’m going to have to override your system,” Namjoon said and Jimin felt like his head was splitting.
“Do it,” Seokjin said loudly and before Jimin could speak again, darkness overcame him.
His last thought was Hoseok.
End.
