Chapter Text
Oh boy, where do I start?
I am writing you this because I believe that you, as Yuuichirou's guardian and only parental figure, need to know how this happened, from start to end. I know you are caught up to parts of the situation, and why these past months have been so hard for us all. Now that I, too, understand more of what transpired, I will share everything with you. Honestly this time.
As you know, it all started this winter.
Because he was dear to Yuuichirou, we chose to protect Hyakuya Mikaela on the battlefield, and allowed him to take Yuuichirou away. You are well aware, as you were the one who saved us out of that mess when everyone called us "traitors". Yuuichirou contacted us shortly after, asking us to meet up with him and Mikaela. When we got there, however, we could only find Yuuichirou, critically wounded.
From here on, you know as much as we do. After he recovered, all he ever talked about was finding Mikaela again. You wouldn't let him head out. Understandably. He was not acting right back then. I remember the squad telling me how much it scared them…
He was convinced Mikaela had to be alive, or else we would have found his corpse somewhere. This went on for a couple months. He tried sneaking out to search for him, refused to fight with us, and tried to get us to drop our military duties to help him find Mikaela.
I know now why you didn't say anything. You noticed the desperation he tried to hide beneath forced confidence and optimism. Only when his obsessive actions could potentially put others in danger did Narumi have enough. Don't remember exactly what he said, but it was something like; "Just accept he is dead! Vampires turn into ashes when they die, so of course we couldn't find a body!"
That is how Yuuichirou suddenly broke down. I didn't want to put the blame on Narumi, that is why I never mentioned it. After all, I understand his anger. He lost friends because of our decision to side with Mikaela that day.
When he started showing signs of suicidal tendencies, you sent him here, to the nice house by the ocean, hoping it would better his mental health. We told you it did. Haha. Sorry, we lied to you. A lot.
He was severely depressed, but at least somewhat stable in the beginning. But when spring came, more specifically at the beginning of May… I have to be honest with you, Guren. The following months… I have never been so scared in my entire life as I was then. He just… Broke completely. I can't come up with a better word for it right now.
The squad members took turns watching over him. We made sure to remove all potentially dangerous objects, just in case. But that wasn't enough. He refused to sleep at all. He only got to rest when he eventually passed out from over exhaustion. I wanted to ask you for sleeping pills, but I was afraid he could attempt to… You know.
He wouldn't eat either. We had to force him to. It got so bad that Yoichi decided to leave. Watching Yuuichirou back then was watching a person slowly killing themselves, and that was just too painful for him. I know, because I felt the same way. But as the squad leader, I had to stay.
While all this was going on, we kept telling you he was getting better, when it was in fact the opposite. I am sorry. But I feared your involvement could push him over the line we had tried so hard to prevent him from crossing.
Now, let's jump to present time. Turns out Mikaela was alive after all. He came knocking on the front door two nights ago, a whopping six months after his disappearance. He looked… Well, let us just say that I don't even want to know what kind of torture was done to him. To top it off, he didn't return alone. He had two toddlers with him, and claimed they were his.
All we know for now is that Mikaela was abducted by someone, an organization of sorts. He could not tell us who they were. I started thinking… Could they possibly be of a foreign magus clan? They experimented on Mikaela using demon technology, so they cannot be ordinary people, at least according to what Mikaela told us. But most of what comes out of his mouth right now is incomprehensible gibberish anyways, so I don't know how much of it we can take at face value. However, if this organization remains a mystery, don't you think it could pose a threat to the JIDA? Mikaela is in no condition to provide us with the information we need... Please, may you look into it?
On the bright side, Yuuichirou is a lot better now. But we will keep an eye on him, as well as trying to figure out what to do with the kids.
