Chapter Text
Yoongi had three rules when it came to sugar babies. The rich alpha had learned that in order for a good sugar daddy-sugar baby relationship to work, there had to be a framework much like any good business relationship.
The first rule was simple: always use protection.
It didn’t matter how long they had been together or how comfortable with each other, Yoongi refused to have a sugar baby - especially an omega - if they didn’t agree to the first rule. It was a protection mechanism for both of them, to ensure there were no unwanted pregnancies. Not that Yoongi wouldn’t take care of any child he helped create but he refused to raise a child who would be miserable knowing their parents didn’t love each other.
The second rule was harder - don’t help each other through heats or ruts.
Doing so would cause unnecessary attachment to the other person which would later complicate their relationship when it eventually came to an end. Yoongi had ended lots of relationships with sugar babies due to various reasons and while many of those relationships hadn’t been sexual, some had been. Those sugar babies who wished to partake in sex would only do so when Yoongi wasn’t nearing a rut or during his rut or during their heats. Those were taken care separately.
The last rule tied it all together: don’t fall in love.
Sugar baby and sugar daddy relationships were hardly ideal in the long run - only good for a quick fling or when they both needed company without commitment. Yoongi loved to spoil his sugar babies until they finally became financially stable or found someone who would truly love them. He had never fallen in love with any of them - only had such fond admiration for them like a mentor had for an apprentice.
Thankfully, Yoongi had never broken any of his three rules or had any reason to break them - that is until he met Park Jimin.
Park Jimin came into his life after a previous sugar baby relationship had ended less than ideal. The sugar baby had wanted way more than Yoongi could ever give, so he made the decision to end their relationship despite how angered the knew it would make them. Despite his keyed car and the way the baby had wrecked his office after the news - Yoongi had been firm in his decision. It was the third and most important rule, don’t fall in love. The worst rule of them all to break.
He didn’t quite understand why so many of his sugar babies seemed to express their love for him after a short while of being together. Yoongi thought of himself as a considerate and thoughtful lover, but the long hours he worked to run the biggest company in Seoul often left him cold and distant. And yet, they almost always managed to fall in love with him, something Yoongi wished wouldn’t happen.
Therefore, when Yoongi had met Jimin, he had just had one of the worst days in his sugar daddy life. He had entered the coffee shop near his building - which he usually left to his assistant Jungkook to pick up coffee before work - angered and frazzled but needing a fix of caffeine due to the long hours he planned the work that night.
It was there that he had met the cute, bubbly barista who smiled brightly at Yoongi despite the fact Yoongi knew he looked intimidating by the fact many of the patrons were avoiding his presence. That didn’t stop the barista from trying to make conversation with Yoongi and ask how his day was, almost if he knew Yoongi needed his mood to be lifted. It was infatuation at first sight.
From then on Yoongi had frequented the coffee shop - much to Jungkook’s delight since he now had more free time to watch overwatch videos at work - to see Jimin. Jimin would always greet him with the same smile he did on the first day, and it always made the alpha’s heart flutter.
He didn’t get to know the omega right away; it took him four more coffee visits after the first to even dare talk to Jimin. But when he did, it became the best decision of his life. Jimin was an interesting person - or so Yoongi thought and he had met so many people in his life. He was a college student in his last year majoring in music education, and he wanted to become a teacher.
Yoongi had always been fond of music growing up, he’d played piano since a young age and even tried to write songs, but in the end, being a heir to a business made it hard for him to pursue music. Therefore, listening to Jimin was like listening to the world’s best melody - the boy knew so much about music, more than Yoongi ever learned. It almost made him want to pick his passion for music - almost.
It was by chance that Yoongi casually found out Jimin was struggling to pay for his last year of college. The boy never talked about that, never showed any insecurities - always bubbly and smiley despite anyone’s mood. That was until the Yoongi came into the cafe before closing, running late due to the several meetings he had that day. There was nobody inside the coffee shop except him and Jimin - well Jimin should have been there.
When he opened the door he saw no one, only heard loud sobs in the back and the scent of distress. Yoongi immediately knew it belonged to an omega; his alpha instincts were quick to kick in, and he immediately knew it was Jimin. It didn’t take him more than a few seconds to react, his instincts urging him to protect and comfort the distressed omega. Jimin was surprised to see him to say the least, but willingly went into Yoongi’s outstretched arms as he offered the omega the comfort he so desperately needed.
When Jimin was finally able to talk, and after Yoongi had helped him close shop for the night - being a CEO didn’t mean he couldn’t get his hands dirty - Yoongi finally got to hear his story. The boy had come from an unsupportive family who didn’t want him to be a music teacher and had refused to pay for his college. Jimin had taken out loans and gotten scholarships, but he had to pay for the rest while working almost full time to support himself. It had been fine the first couple of years, but as the last two years approached, it became harder. It was to the point that Jimin didn’t even know if he was going to graduate. Then and there Yoongi knew what he was going to do; he offered to pay for the rest of Jimin’s school and cancel all of his debts without anything in return.
It was an unprecedented move for Yoongi, given the fact that he hasn’t asked Jimin to be his sugar baby, but he cared too much for the boy as a friend to leave him hopeless. Surprisingly, it was Jimin who offered to be Yoongi’s sugar baby in return for the money. The boy was prideful, and refused to take charity from anyone, especially when he could give something in return.
That’s how their relationship started.
Yoongi never imagined he would be breaking his three rules so easily with Jimin. The first rule was broken by accident, by chance really. They had just come back from a nice dinner to celebrate the third month of their sugar relationship, and it all happened in the heat of the moment. Yoongi and Jimin had had sex by that point, but it was always planned and always with protection. The alpha hated to be caught off guard, so he always came prepared, until that day. They had no plans to do anything but eat dinner and go home, but the minute they had made it to the car, it seems like neither could take their hands off the other.
Yoongi had pushed Jimin into the back seat, planning to just give the man a little satisfaction but not going all the way - yet, the world had other plans. Soon Yoongi and Jimin were shuddering with pleasure, condom all but forgotten in their fit of passion, only to be remembered when it was too late to turn back. Thankfully, the omega wasn’t anywhere near his heat and took other forms of contraceptives as a precaution. It was fine, and then the two of them agreed that their passionate love making was better without a condom - after they both were checked to make sure no one would contract a disease. Yoongi preferred it this way - not that he would even tell the omega - because it made him feel just a little bit closer to Jimin. Something he hadn’t cared about with anyone else until them.
The second rule was broken only after a couple of months into their current “no condom” agreement.
Yoongi had left work early due to a high fever - Kim Seokjin had all but forced to leave to ensure nobody else would get sick. His secretary, Jungkook, had told Jimin what had happened a little afterwards. The younger man must have exaggerated his sickness because Jimin had come bursting into his condominium - he had a spare key - looking almost as if someone had told him Yoongi had died. In his hand was a plastic bag filled with what seemed to be groceries and medicine. Yoongi was about to tell Jimin that he didn’t have to go through all that trouble when he realized that his fever wasn’t due to sickness - but something else.
Being in the presence of an omega - while Jin was an omega, he didn’t count the man as anything but a friendly nuisance - seemed to make his alpha instincts go wild. Yoongi realized he was going through his rut a little too late. From all the work he had been doing in his office to the overseas business trips and deals, he had forgotten about his basic biology.
Yoongi had told Jimin to leave, telling him that Yoongi would contact him when his rut was over. But the omega was stubborn, and his basic omega instincts told him that he needed to help the alpha during his distress. Everything was consensual - Yoongi wasn’t too far gone to not have a conversation with Jimin before they did anything - and Jimin ended up spending two nights in Yoongi’s condo, helping the other man get through his rut. It felt wonderful, to finally have an omega to help him. Yoongi then offered to help Jimin during his heats, and the omega willingly accepted the offer. From then on, the two of them fell naturally into this new routine.
The first two rules were broken so easily, and Yoongi didn’t mind it. But he never expected the last rule to be broken, as much as he valued Jimin’s presence, he refused to let Jimin fall in love with him. Yoongi never expected to be the one to fall in love with Jimin instead.
It was really easy. Jimin was unlike any of the other sugar babies he had had before; the boy was kind and gentle, didn’t ask for anything but what Yoongi gave him. And he was always looking out for the alpha, making sure he had eaten, texting him to sleep when they were away from each other, and keeping him from doing anything reckless by acting on his temper. None of his other babies had cared enough to worry about Yoongi’s wellbeing, but Jimin did and that made the difference to Yoongi.
It wasn’t obvious to him at first of course. Yoongi had always been oblivious to his feelings after deciding he was better off without a genuine romantic connection - all due to his parents’ unhappy marriage that led him to have horrible expectations for a lover. But Jimin, Jimin made life so much easier. From the smile that Yoongi cherished so much, to the moments when Jimin was yelling at Yoongi for not eating anything in ten hours, it was easy. When he realized he was in love, it was too late to go back. The feelings he had for Jimin went deeper than a simple infatuation - Yoongi was IN love with Jimin and Jimin could never know.
That’s why, one day after Yoongi and Jimin had spent the night together, nestled in each other’s arms, Yoongi decided it was best to end the relationship before he hurt the boy with his feelings. Jimin was still hazy with sleep, his eyes turning into sleepy crescents as he smiled warmly at Yoongi when the alpha decided to break the news.
“Jimin, let’s end this.” It was only three words - much like I love you was three words - but those three words changed the course of Yoongi’s life forever.
Jimin, who had been in the middle of getting out of bed to change into something - they had a habit of sleeping nude when they were together - had stilled at his words. His back was facing Yoongi so the alpha couldn’t see his reaction right away, but given the way his shoulders seemed to sag and the spike in his scent, the omega didn’t seem to be taken it well. Still, he never turned his back to look at Yoongi, instead casually lifting his head to stare outside of Yoongi’s windows.
“Why?” Jimin asked, voice calm and steady but not matching his scent.
Truly why? If anything there was no reason to let go of Jimin - Jimin was beautiful, kind and caring. Jimin was everything Yoongi wanted in a partner, and that’s why Yoongi had to end this before he got too attached. Before he didn’t want to let go of Jimin, knowing the other man would never return his feelings. So, it was for the best.
“I don’t think this is going to work anymore,” Yoongi tried to pick his words carefully, “you and I are too different.”
Jimin had scoffed at that, “isn’t that the basis of a sugar baby and daddy relationship, Yoongi?”
“Maybe,” Yoongi started, “but you have a whole life ahead of you Jimin, as a future teacher, you don’t want anyone to know you were a sugar baby.”
Jimin had laughed with no humor. “That’s low Yoongi, even for you. But I know that’s not why.”
The omega had always been intuitive to Yoongi’s thoughts and feelings, and then alpha knew it wouldn’t be that easy. He needed to try harder.
“I’m sorry, frankly, I’m bored of this relationship,” the lie slipped so easily from Yoongi’s mouth and he tried to ignore the pang in his chest, because who could ever be bored of Jimin. “I think it’s time I find a different sugar baby.”
The omega’s usually sweet scent was slowly starting to turn sour, the usual milk and honey scent that Yoongi loved so much became that of spoiled milk. He still couldn’t see Jimin’s face, but he was probably trying to hold back tears. It hurt Yoongi to do this, his alpha was yelling at him for being so stupid. It wanted to protect Jimin, wanted to ask Jimin to be his mate, to be his forever, but Yoongi couldn’t be selfish. Jimin deserved more than an alpha that had relationship issues and used sugar babies as a way to avoid actual, meaningful connections. He deserved a partner who would love him wholeheartedly and forever - something Yoongi was too scared to commit to.
The room was silent for what felt forever, the only sound Yoongi could hear was their breaths and his beating heart. It was when Jimin spoke that Yoongi felt his whole world shatter.
“So I meant nothing to you?” It was barely a whisper, but Yoongi heard it clearly. The omega’s spoiled scent was spiking, but Jimin seemed too distraught to notice. Yoongi didn’t know how to answer him, what was he supposed to say to Jimin? You mean the world to me? I love you so much but I’m too scared to be with you?
Instead what came out was, “it was never serious, Jimin.”
“Never serious?” The other man practically gave himself whiplash by the way he violently turned around to finally face Yoongi. His eyes were red from crying, but they were firm as they glared at Yoongi and the alpha wished he wasn’t the cause of such an ugly expression on Jimin’s beautiful face.
“Yes,” Yoongi whispered, wishing he could go back in time to take it all back and have Jimin back in his arms. But it was too late for that. What was done was done.
“Tell me, Yoongi,” Jimin said with an edge that Yoongi felt, “if it was never serious, why did you break two of your rules?”
I never would have if I realized I would fall in love with you, Yoongi wanted to say, but he was too cowardly. He didn’t deserve Jimin.
“It was convenient, wasn’t it?” Yoongi countered, trying to feign indifference. If he was going to sell this, he needed Jimin to think that he meant nothing to the alpha as much as it hurt him. “The two of us got something out of it, I helped you through your heats and you helped me through my rut. Plus you’re on birth control, so I could finally use an omega to get through my-“
Slap. He hadn’t heard Jimin move, too focused on coming up with a bullshit lie to notice the omega crawl across the mattress to press the palm of his hand firmly on Yoongi’s cheek. The sound resonated throughout the open room, and Yoongi tried not to look shocked as he saw the omega crying. His alpha instincts were telling him to comfort, to protect, but Yoongi knew he couldn’t do that. Instead, he watched as the omega got out of bed and changed quickly, not sparing another glance at Yoongi.
“You’re an asshole, Yoongi,” Jimin said, and he could hear Jimin trying to stifle his sobs - Yoongi’s heart hurt to listen - as he finished getting dressed.
“I hope you know that,” were Jimin’s last words before he was rushing out of Yoongi’s condo. Yoongi wanted to go after the omega, to stop him and apologize profusely, but instead, he listened as Jimin slammed the front door shut, the loud sound echoing until Yoongi was finally alone in silence.
—-
It’d been a month since Yoongi had decided to end his relationship with Jimin, and it had been three weeks since he last contacted the omega. The last time Yoongi contacted Jimin was to let him know that Yoongi would continue to pay for his education - which would all be handled by Jin and Jungkook - even if they weren’t in a relationship. It was the least he could do for Jimin.
It had been a month since he had last seen Jimin and Yoongi was fine. Or so, he told himself. Most of his days were spent at work, trying to move his company forward and barking orders to his subordinates. And on days when he didn’t have work, he would wallow in misery, remembering little things about Jimin as he went through his every day. That’s why he began to work more, to keep himself from having idle time to think of the omega he had lost.
He didn’t seem to notice his sudden change in attitude, but Jungkook and Seokjin seemed to right away. Yoongi only realized when he overheard them talking in the kitchenette one night after hours when he was going to make a coffee.
It was late, later than Yoongi wanted to admit. He had busied himself in his work and was in the middle of finishing some documents; he didn’t want to go hope quite yet. Coffee was an easy fix to solve his tiredness, even if it would only cause him to be more tired tomorrow morning. It didn’t matter and he started his walk to the kitchenette until he stopped due to the sound of two voices. It was Jungkook and Seokjin.
Jungkook did often stayed late to make sure Yoongi went home early, especially now that Jimin was no longer around to scold Yoongi, and Seokjin was as busy as him currently. The work of the Vice President was as difficult as Yoongi’s as CEO.
The two were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn’t seem to notice Yoongi’s presence, and he decided to turn back to his office to not disturb them. That was until he heard his name come out of their mouth. Instead of leaving, he stepped behind the open door to hide from view and listen. He knew it wasn’t kind to eavesdrop, but this concerned him, and he wanted to know what they were saying about him so late at night. His heart dropped when he heard it was about Jimin.
“Do you know why Yoongi hyung broke things off with Jimin?” Jungkook was asking Jin. Jin shrugged, sighing as he took the cup in his hand and took a sip of whatever was inside.
“Your guess is as good as mine.”
“But I thought Yoongi hyung was happy with Jimin.” Jungkook continued. Yeah, Yoongi had been happy with the omega. More than happy.
“Now he looks miserable. He hardly sleeps, he’s always working, and is always super grumpy when you talk to him. I saw him scold the intern for some small mistake she had made, and she started to cry when he left.” Jungkook continued to explain to Jin.
Yoongi remembered that intern. She had asked to make copies of some documents that Jin had for her, but she somehow managed to lose them before making it to the copier. And they were the only copies of those documents. He didn’t care if it had been her first day and they eventually found it, but an intern should always be more careful. Well, perhaps he didn’t have to yell at her so loudly and in front of everybody.
Jin sighed again, rubbing his temples to help with the stress that was built up from dealing with Yoongi and his temper. “Sometimes I wish Jimin was back. At least he knew how to handle Yoongi. I guess they either have to make up or Yoongi’s got to move on.”
Move on? Why hadn’t Yoongi thought of that before? Jimin and Yoongi had not been in a romantic relationship to begin with, and what Yoongi did best when breaking up with a sugar baby was find a new one. It helped him attempt to fill the void in his heart. When Jungkook and Jin were done talking and when Yoongi had gotten his coffee so he could stay up a couple more hours, he decided it was time to find another sugar baby.
—
Yoo Kihyun was like any sugar baby Yoongi had had before Jimin. He was a very proud omega, who always seemed to hold his head high when he was with Yoongi like all the money Yoongi had was for him and him alone. He liked to go shopping every weekend when Yoongi wasn’t busy and would call the busy alpha to make him go shopping with him. Yoongi would watch as Kihyun lazily browsed the racks of Gucci or Versace until he could find the most expensive piece in the store, almost it challenging Yoongi to buy it. And Yoongi always did; he had money to spare and a few $100,000 wouldn’t make a difference.
Most of all Yoo Kihyun was beautiful. Not beautiful in the way Jimin was beautiful - all smiles and warmth - but a more cold and calculative beauty that radiated confidence and commanded the whole room to look at him and only him. It was the beauty that had attracted Yoongi to him, it was familiar, and could take away the pain he felt when he thought of Jimin. Yoo Kihyun and Jimin couldn’t be anymore different, and Yoongi was thankful for that.
But what Yoongi underestimated was how calculative and perceptive Kihyun was. Unlike his other sugar babies, who didn’t seem to pick up on Yoongi’s actions or feelings, Yoo Kihyun was able to read him after only a few meetings. It had thoroughly surprised Yoongi, to say the least, and if he said more, it was a bit annoying having someone know more about you than you let yourself believe.
It had all started after dinner. Kihyun had insisted that they eat at the newest French restaurant after they had finished shopping for the day, and although Yoongi had a distaste for French food - the only good food they had was their pastries - he had agreed. Kihyun was bratty when he didn’t get his way, and Yoongi was not in the mood to deal with that. After they had been seated, Yoongi had let his mind wander while Kihyun was talking to him about the newest Gucci collection - or was it Givenchy? Yoongi didn’t really care about it, too caught up in trying to figure out some work-related stuff when he heard it - the laugh. It was a laugh he would recognize anywhere because it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever heard.
He had turned, stunned and Kihyun forgotten, looking around the restaurant to find the source of the sound. His mind was racing with thoughts, thoughts he didn’t want to have. Was Jimin seeing another sugar daddy? Had he moved on already? Yoongi felt his alpha growl inside of him at the thought of Jimin with another man, but what could he do when he was nothing to Jimin? Their relationship had been beneficial for both of them, but it had never been romantic. Although Yoongi seemed to forget sometimes.
When he finally located the sound of the voice, he was relieved to see it coming from an omega woman at a nearby table. The panic that had been building was slowly fading away. Still, he had a nagging feeling in his chest, wishing it had been Jimin since he hadn’t seen the omega since their breakup. Yoongi longed to be able to comfort his omega, to tell him how much the alpha would take care of him. But it could never be, and as much as he wanted it to.
Kihyun had noticed the whole ordeal, and had sat there quietly as he watched Yoongi freak out, analyzing the situation before opening his mouth.
“Bad breakup?” He asked. Yoongi turned so quickly he must have gotten whiplash from the sheer force, and stared at Kihyun with wide eyes.
“No,” he tried to deflect but the disbelief in Kihyun’s eyes caused him to automatically deflate.
“Right, and I’m not here to make my ex daddy jealous,” Kihyun scoffed and Yoongi looked at him with surprise, because the man had not told him that. At Yoongi’s sudden disbelief, Kihyun just smirked and took a sip of the expensive wine they had purchased with dinner.
“I think we all have reasons for what we’re doing. If you tell me about him, I’ll tell you about mine.” Kihyun leveled, casually leaning back in his seat to eye Yoongi with an expression that was meant to test him. /tell me, I dare you/ it basically read. Yoongi didn’t know Kihyun well and wasn’t willing to share his secrets so easily. Yet at the same time, confiding in a perpetual stranger was a lot easier than talking to his friends about it.
After Jimin and he had broke things off, he had made it adamantly clear to Jungkook and Jin that he did not want to hear mentions of Jimin’s name when he was around. Jungkook had been easy to convince, seeing as he didn’t want to make his boss mad and get fired. Jin, on the other hand, had given Yoongi hell for about two weeks, constantly talking about Jimin and trying to find out the reason they had broken up. After he realized Yoongi wouldn’t speak, Jin had finally given up with a petulant attitude. Therefore, nobody knew exactly why Yoongi had ended things with Jimin unless Jimin had told them himself. But considering how Jin would eye him from outside of his office most days, Yoongi assumed Jimin hadn’t told him anything.
He didn’t know what finally broke him down and made him tell Kihyun, but the thought of keeping it in any longer seemed to physically hurt Yoongi. Perhaps talking about it would make the pain in his heart hurt less. So, he told Kihyun the abridged story about what happened. All the emotions, all the feelings he had been holding in until then were finally unleashed.
It was a lot easier to talk about Jimin than Yoongi thought it would be. Talking about the good times they had together came out effortlessly, and even their less than marvelous moments were easy for him to swallow. It was only until the very end of his tale when he felt unable to continue, but Kihyun seemed to understand, putting his hand on Yoongi’s arm to stop him from saying anymore.
“It’s okay,” he soothed, using his fingers to run soothing circles on Yoongi’s arm while the alpha tried his best to keep his racing thoughts at bay.
“I can talk about him if you want,” Kihyun told him and by “him” Yoongi assumed he meant the mysterious sugar daddy from earlier. Therefore, he took a deep breath and nodded, letting Kihyun take the reign of the conversation.
“I guess we’re similar in that regard,” Kihyun sighed, slowly moving his hand away from Yoongi’s arm to sit back in his chair and avoided looking into Yoongi’s eyes as he continued talking. Perhaps he felt as vulnerable as Yoongi felt currently, the two of them virtually strangers but sharing such personal stories to each other.
Kihyun paused for a moment as if recollecting his thoughts and trying to figure out what he was going to say. When he spoke, it was to say, “I also fell in love.”
“With him?” Yoongi asked. Kihyun nodded, and Yoongi could notice his eyes slowly start to glaze over as he was trying to hide his tears. And Yoongi wondered if that’s what he looked like to Kihyun.
“Yeah, and I knew he would never feel the same way so I decided to leave the situation, much like you did. I thought, maybe if I moved on I could make him realize he liked me or forget my feelings for him, but I was wrong,” Kihyun sighed again, “I still love him.”
There was one pressing question that Yoongi wanted to ask him, and he did before he could even think twice about stopping himself. “Do you regret leaving him?”
Kihyun finally looked at him, his facade of haughtiness finally broken so Yoongi could see his true self, the man who was suffering from unrequited love like him. “Every day.”
---
His relationship with Kihyun changed after that. After their heart to heart, the two of them seemed to truly understand each other as equals, and they became instant friends. Kihyun no longer seemed interesting in treating Yoongi like a normal sugar daddy, and now most of their time together was spent exploring their city and enjoying each other’s company. They had gotten so close that skinship was a norm between them. It was more friendly skinship than romantic but they were hardly seen without Kihyun’s arms wrapped around Yoongi’s arm. They both craved for the touch of someone else they couldn’t have and found solace in each other.
That’s how Yoongi happened upon Jimin one day, with Kihyun wrapped around the right side of his body, laughing at a joke that Yoongi had told him. They had just walked out of an art museum after looking at a new exhibit when Yoongi had accidentally bumped into someone as he was walking down the stairs.
“I’m sorry,” Yoongi had said to the person, only to do a double take as he stared into the eyes of his previous sugar baby who was with another man he had never met, an alpha by his scent. The two of them seemed stunned, unable to move, as they looked at each other for the first time in months. The two of them had been inseparable when they were together. He saw Jimin’s gaze slowly move to the person casually wrapped around Yoongi’s arm, and he wasn’t sure if it was a flash of hurt in Jimin’s eyes that he saw or something else. He wanted to say something, anything to the omega, but no words were coming out. It was Jimin who finally spoke.
“Ah, Mr. Min, it’s fine. I didn’t notice you,” Jimin said with a voice he would use if he were talking to any other customer at the coffee shop. Yoongi supposed it’s what he deserved, considering the two of them had not left on good terms and had no other reason to remain friendly. Kihyun quirked at his side, looking at Jimin curiously, obviously wondering who the other omega was. But Yoongi was too focused on the alpha at Jimin’s side, who had his arm wrapped around Jimin’s waist. He had placed it there to keep Jimin from falling earlier, but instead of moving it, he kept it there in what Yoongi thought was a sign of possessiveness. He tried to keep his expression neutral as he looked back at Jimin whose mouth was settled in a thin line.
The silence between them had been going on for too long, and Kihyun elbowed Yoongi to get his attention. Yoongi snapped out of whatever little daze he had been at seeing Jimin again and gave Jimin and his alpha friend a curt nod.
“How do you know my Yoongi?” Kihyun asked in a way to make conversation, and Yoongi didn’t miss the way Jimin’s eyes seemed to widen at that. But the omega’s surprise calmly turned into an aloof expression.
“He used to be a frequent customer at my workplace, but I haven’t seen him in a while,” Jimin commented, and Yoongi couldn’t ignore the edge in his voice unless he was imagining it. He had no idea why Kihyun had decided to strike a conversation with his former sugar baby. It was obvious by Yoongi’s frozen state that Kihyun must have figured out that this was the “Jimin” he had broken down and talked to him about. That still didn’t give Kihyun a reason to wrap himself tighter around Yoongi and look at the other omega with an innocent possessiveness that Yoongi knew was all for show. He didn’t know what Kihyun was trying to accomplish, but he didn’t like the way Jimin was trying to hold back a frown and the sudden change in his scent which Yoongi barely recognized. It had changed, before it had been all peaches and cream but now it was fresher - almost like fresh powder.
But he didn’t get a chance to dwell on it and figure out why as Kihyun was letting out a fake giggle and swatting Yoongi playfully. “Oh, I’ve been keeping him busy haven’t I, Yoonie?”
Yoongi could do nothing but nod and Kihyun took that as a good sign to slip his hand into Yoongi’s and turn to Jimin and friend with a smile. “If you excuse us, we need to get going. Have a good day.”
Yoongi followed Kihyun as he started to walk down the steps as much as his alpha yearned to be near Jimin. He turned to get one last glimpse at his ex-lover - if he was even able to call their relationship romantically - and let Kihyun guide him away. It was sad, but Yoongi had promised himself he would move on as Jimin had presumably had already done. They were too different to be together, and it was for the best. Or so Yoongi kept telling himself.
—
The next time Yoongi ran into Jimin, he was alone. He and Kihyun had agreed to meet at a small coffee shop downtown, but Yoongi had arrived early as an excuse to get out of his office. Some days he felt suffocated being in that space, especially when Jin would constantly stare at him from across the hall, like he wanted to say something to Yoongi but never did. He knew it was about Jimin, but Yoongi would always do his best to steer the conversation in a different direction when Jin would try to pry. After multiple attempts, Jin had given up but it didn’t stop the man from being passive aggressive and shooting Yoongi looks whenever he got the chance. It was exhausting, and Yoongi wished Jin would stop it already. He and Jimin weren’t meant to be. It wasn’t hard to see that.
The coffee shop door opened with a chime of the bells, indicating that a customer had entered the shop. Yoongi would have thought nothing of it, he was currently typing up some documents on his laptop, if it had not been for the familiar scent that accompanied the entry. The alpha looked up quickly to see Park Jimin staring back at him with wide eyes. Last time they had run into each other, Yoongi had been unable to fully take in his appearance. Now that they were alone, he noted how much the omega had changed.
Before, he had always been a bright man full of energy and happiness, but now Yoongi could see the dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. He looked haggard with his face a little thinner than normal but somehow he seemed to be slightly rounder around the abdomen if Yoongi saw correctly. He attributed to not having seen Jimin in awhile, although the omega did seem to hide his stomach behind his satchel when he saw Yoongi staring at it. From that alone and his change of scent, Yoongi should have known, but he was too caught up in seeing Jimin again to fully understand the meaning behind it all.
“Jimin,” Yoongi whispered under his breath and he didn’t expect for the omega to hear him. But he did. Of course he did. He looked at Yoongi, a look of indecision on his face and before Yoongi could even react he was walking out of the coffee shop briskly without ever saying a word.
It didn’t take Yoongi much to follow Jimin, quickly jumping out of his seat and leaving all his belongings on the table, too focused on Jimin to care about anything else. The omega didn’t have any signs of stopping, even when Yoongi called out his name. If anything he seemed to walk faster when Yoongi tried to stop him. He knew they were causing a scene, people looked at them as the alpha chased Jimin down. To an outsider's perspective, it looked like an argument between lovers, and he knew no one would try to get in the way of an alpha and “his omega” but that didn’t stop the looks people gave them as Yoongi kept chasing after Jimin.
He was finally able to catch up to the fleeing omega when his pace seemed to tire. Yoongi reached out to gently grab the back of Jimin’s arm, but the omega still recoiled at his touch, trying his best to push Yoongi away from him. But it only ended with Jimin taking a misstep and tripping to which the alpha grabbed him before he could fall down. With their bodies pressed together, it suddenly all clicked in Yoongi’s head and he looked at the omega in quite a shock.
“Jimin,” he tried but the omega was already trying to push him away. Despite his efforts, Yoongi was firm in his hold of the omega because he didn’t want him to harm the child growing in him. A child Yoongi wasn’t expecting Jimin to be carrying.
“How,” were the only words Yoongi could let out as Jimin stopped struggling against him, to glare at the alpha but his expression seemed to waver when he saw the look on Yoongi’s face.
“It happens,” Jimin whispered almost too quiet for Yoongi to hear him, but the alpha was too focused on his past love to not hear him. There was a burning question Yoongi needed an answer to but he was too scared to ask. He and Jimin had had an unconventional sugar daddy and sugar baby relationship with the first two rules being broken as easily as Yoongi had made them. There had been countless of times that Yoongi had helped Jimin through his heats, enough times Jimin allowed Yoongi to knot him in order to conceive a pup. Yoongi’s pup. Was Jimin pregnant with Yoongi’s pup?
Before Yoongi could ask, Jimin shook his head almost as if anticipating the question to come. “It’s not yours.”
Those three words like the three words he had uttered to Jimin when they ended things were enough to shatter Yoongi.
“What?” Yoongi whispered, loosening his grip on Jimin due to his frazzled state. Jimin took advantage of that to move out of his reach, but he didn’t leave. Yoongi looked at Jimin’s eyes searching for the truth, but his expression was set and unwavering.
“It’s not yours,” Jimin repeated. He had expected a different answer the second time around, because last time he checked, Jimin had not been with anyone besides him during their time together. It wasn’t part of the agreement, - they were allowed to have partners if they wanted to - but the two of them had been so comfortable with each other that they didn’t need anyone else. Then how was Jimin able to conceive a child if it was not his? Had Jimin been seeing someone on the side while they were together?
Yoongi had flashbacks to the day he and Kihyun ran into Jimin at the art museum. That day, Jimin had been with another alpha whom Yoongi had never seen before. Not that he and Jimin ever interfered much with each other’s personal lives. Yoongi had noticed then that the alpha was slightly possessive over the omega as if they were together. It had made his own alpha upset at seeing someone with Jimin, but he knew he had no right to be upset when he was the one who ended things with Jimin. But had Jimin really gone and conceived a pup with another alpha? Had their relationship meant nothing?
“Did it mean nothing to you?” Yoongi asked before he could stop himself. Jimin was taken aback by the question, but he quickly turned his stunned expression into a glare.
“Did it mean nothing to me? You were the one who ended things Yoongi!” Jimin hissed. Yoongi could see that Jimin had his hands balled to his side as he tried to contain his anger.
“I was hesitant even to enter such a relationship because I knew it would never end up anywhere, and yet I still fell in love with you and went along with your stupid rules until you ended it! I thought that maybe you would eventually feel the same way as me, but instead, you decided to end things and remind me that our relationship meant nothing to you in the first place, so don’t ask me if it meant nothing to me. You’re the one who it meant nothing too.” Jimin yelled with so much force that Yoongi was now the one being taken aback. He was aware of the people walking by them staring at the seem they were starting to create. The lovers quarrel didn’t look like it would have a good ending and everyone was interested to see what would happen next.
But Yoongi paid no mind to the people around them, because he had been too focused on the words he swore had come out of Jimin’s mouth. “You love me?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper but of course Jimin heard him.
“I loved you,” was Jimin’s cold response, “but now I want nothing to do with you. I’ve moved on, you should too.” Before Yoongi could protest, before he could even begin to wrap his head around his feelings and thoughts, to maybe tell Jimin that he also loved him, Jimin was scurrying off. This time Yoongi didn’t chase after him but watched sadly as he disappeared into the crowd, taking a part of Yoongi’s heart with him.

Kihyun found him outside of the coffee shop about thirty minutes later. He seemed frazzled at first because he had been waiting inside of the coffee shop with Yoongi’s stuff in sight and him nowhere to be seen, but as soon as he saw Yoongi’s expression he went into instant comfort mode. The alpha didn’t cry often, - he didn’t let his emotions get to him because he had years of keeping them in - but he couldn’t help the tears that fell from his eyes as Kihyun held him in a tight embrace.
They left shortly afterward, Kihyun grabbing his stuff from inside and taking Yoongi’s keys out of his hand. Kihyun seemed the other man not fit to drive, and Yoongi wasn’t going to argue with him. He didn’t think he could figure out how to get back to his condominium in this state.
The ride felt like an eternity but in reality, it was less than twenty minutes. Kihyun parked his car in the huge parking garage below the apartments and guided the alpha out of the car and into the waiting elevator. Throughout the whole thing, Kihyun hadn’t asked Yoongi any questions about his breakdown which he was grateful for. He was in no condition to talk to him about what happened, but Kihyun was smart and could probably piece a semi clear picture together without Yoongi having to tell him anything.
When Yoongi was finally situated on his couch, curled next to Kihyun as the omega gently ran his fingers through his hair to comfort him, he finally talked.
“He’s expecting.”
The hand that was running through Yoongi’s hair stilled for a second before continuing its mission.
“Who’s the father?” was Kihyun’s response. He figured Kihyun was expecting him to say it was his child, and Yoongi wished he could. If Jimin had been pregnant with his child, he knew he would do everything to make sure the omega and their pup were happy and healthy. Yoongi would have gone to lengths to make sure Jimin was okay, to make sure that they could attempt to have the family Yoongi never had. But the world was cruel, and Jimin had chosen another alpha over him which had sadly been to Yoongi’s own fault.
“It’s not me,” was Yoongi’s muffled response to his pressing question, and he turned away to keep the tears from falling, blinking furiously as he did. Kihyun didn’t ask any more questions after that, as if sending that the alpha didn’t want to talk about it anymore. Instead, he grabbed the remote on the glass coffee table in front of them and turned on the huge flat screen. Yoongi watched as he flipped through the channels, not really interested in what was on TV but needing a distraction.
They stayed like this, watching TV and Kihyun running his fingers through Yoongi’s hair until Yoongi fell asleep. When he awoke, Kihyun was gone and Yoongi was left alone to wallow in his misery. If only he had been honest with Jimin in the beginning, maybe things would have turned out better. But it was his rules that screwed him over, rules he wanted nothing else to do with.

The next two weeks were a living hell for Yoongi and even more for Yoongi’s poor assistant, Jungkook. While the man didn’t have anything to do with Yoongi’s inner turmoil, Yoongi seemed to be content with taking out his frustrations on the beta by making him do more tasks than usual. There was never an idle moment for Jungkook as Yoongi ordered him around. He watched the poor beta scramble to finish typing up the documents Yoongi needed, while he tried not to wallow in his own misery. He thought he was doing a good job of hiding his pain, besides making Jungkook suffer of course, but it seems Jin always saw through his facade.
“What’s wrong with you?” Jin asked as he stepped out of his own office to stand next to Yoongi and watch Jungkook struggle as well. “The poor kid has nothing to do with whatever you got going in your head.”
His arms were crossed and his eyes were dead set on Jungkook, but Yoongi could tell that the man was trying to challenge him. Even as an omega, Jin was braver than any alpha and would not back down to an alpha’s temper. Yoongi knew this well, and he knew he would not be able to get out of answering Jin’s question without at least a half-truth. The omega would press him until he had given him a satisfactory answer and Yoongi was in no mood for his games.
Instead, he sighed and said, “I’m just tired Jin.”
Jin didn’t seem to believe him by the pregnant pause he took in between his next words. They continued to look at Jungkook hurriedly typing away. Yoongi had almost forgotten their conversation when Jin spoke again.
“It’s about the baby, isn’t it.”
Yoongi whipped his head really quickly to stare at Jin in shock, but the other man was still not looking at him. His shock slowly changed into bubbling anger, anger he had been holding in since he found out Jimin was pregnant. How could Jin know before him and not have the decency to tell him? Where he and Jimin on such good terms that Jin knew before him? Did Yoongi mean that little to Jimin?
“You fucking knew,” Yoongi hissed. It came out more loud and accusatory than it had to be, and even Jungkook seemed to stop what he was doing to look at the situation unfolding between his two bosses. Jin seemed unfazed; he finally started to turn to Yoongi, looking bored as he did so, almost as if they were discussing information for a meeting rather than Yoongi’s love life.
“Yes, I knew,” Jin said and his voice sounded so nonchalant that it made Yoongi even more mad. The alpha was good at controlling his anger, but when it came out the whole room was commandeered by his presence. It made every beta and omega shudder to try to get in his path - every omega except Jin of course. Jin stared him down, as if taunting Yoongi to do something to him. Yoongi could do nothing but sigh angrily, trying his best to control his anger before he let hurtful words come out of his mouth.
“You knew and didn’t tell me,” Yoongi asked, as politely as he could given the situation. Jin just shrugged lazily.
“There wasn’t any reason to tell you,” was his casual response. What had been quelled of Yoongi’s anger suddenly came barreling back.
“NO FUCKING REASON JIN, WE WERE TOGETHER, DON'T YOU THINK I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN?” He couldn’t help but yell. Through his peripheral vision he could see that Jungkook was sitting at his desk tensely, probably from the sudden outburst from Yoongi. Yoongi tried his best to calm down, knowing that anger wouldn’t solve the situation. It would only make it worse. Jin, to his credit, seemed unphased by Yoongi’s outburst, looking at Yoongi to see if the man was going to be a threat or not. When he finally decided Yoongi was fine, Jin let out a deep sigh.
“You weren’t together Yoongi, you were his sugar daddy.” Right - how could Yoongi forget that their relationship had been unconventional. Despite knowing Jimin’s true feelings for him now, it didn’t change the fact that Yoongi had made it clear from the beginning that their relationship had been one of convenience rather than love. And even as the two of them had started to become comfortable with each other, he knew he had made it clear during their breakup that they had been nothing. And how much Yoongi regretted that.
Deflated, the alpha sighed and tried his best to let go of the little bit of anger he had left. It was no use getting worked over everything, not when it was all over and Jimin was no longer his. He turned his back to Jin and Jungkook and stormed back into his office, slamming the door behind them and busying himself in his work. Jimin was a thing of the past. Yoongi needed to move on.
—
It was the following week that Yoongi finally got closure. Or something resembling closure because his heart would always belong to Jimin no matter how much he tried to deny it. He was working late in the office that day, Jin and Jungkook had already gone home hours ago. Jungkook had tried to get his boss to go home and rest but without Jimin to tell him to sleep, Yoongi found himself working more than ever. After the fifth attempt to get Yoongi’s attention, Jungkook had sighed and wished him a good night. He heard Jungkook in the kitchenette making him a pot of coffee before he left, and he silently noted to himself to thank Jungkook later for all his hard work. The beta deserved that after putting up with Yoongi’s bullshit for the past weeks.
It was another hour before he heard anyone come into the office. By that time it was already around 9 PM, and Yoongi had finally decided to take a break from his work to stretch. His door was wide open, - he hated having it closed when he was alone because who knew what could happen - and he heard shuffling outside of his office. At first, he thought it was the air conditioner turning on, but when it continued and grew a little louder, he grew wary. Yoongi silently stood up from his spot, hoping he didn’t make much noise as he did so. If it had been Jin or Jungkook, they would have announced their presence by now. Yoongi wasn’t paranoid, but it was better to be safe than sorry. The business world could be unnecessarily cruel, and he wouldn’t put it past someone to try and harm him.
Therefore, he reached for the stun gun he always kept at his desk and then proceeded to inch slowly toward his door. The person didn’t seem to leave, instead, Yoongi heard their footsteps walking toward Jin’s door. He supposed it could be a janitor cleaning late at night considering how much noise they were making, but Yoongi wanted to be safe than sorry. He slowly got closer to the window, the stunner close to his body in case he needed to use it. It. He wondered if he should ask who was there or if that would make the situation worse. After thinking it over, he thought it was best to let himself be known.
“Who is there,” Yoongi demanded in his most authoritative voice possible. He saw the silhouette of the person from his doorway but couldn’t make out who it was. The person stopped at the sound of his voice and didn’t move. Yoongi wondered if they were calculating their next move. It was important for him to show them who was in control now.
“I asked who was there. If you don’t identify yourself in ten seconds, I’m going to call the cops. I’m armed and will use it in self-defense, don’t make me ask again.”
At Yoongi’s threat, the figure started moving. From the place he was standing, Yoongi could tell it was a man. And the closer he got the easier to notice the man he had lain with multiple times in the past. Jimin looked at him with a sheepish smile, hands in the air as he was trying to show Yoongi that he didn’t post a threat. Yoongi hasn’t seen him since their fateful meeting at the coffee shop and he noticed how the man’s belly had grown noticeably. It was still a small bump, but Yoongi could tell he was pregnant right away. It pained him.
Yoongi lowered the stun gun in his hand and placed it in his pocket. There was no reason to keep it when it was just Jimin. He sighed, tired and unsure of what to do now.
“What are you doing here, Jimin?” Yoongi asked. It was a fair question, considering the circumstances. Jimin would have no reason to be here when they were no longer on speaking terms. It was obvious he wasn’t here for Yoongi.
“I- I needed to drop something off to Jin, and he said he was at the office. He told me you wouldn’t be here.” Jimin replied truthfully. Of course Jin would lie to Jimin so easily. Jin has set this whole thing up so the two of them could see each other. He was a sneaky bastard like that. Yoongi sighed, leaning on his door frame and rubbing his temples. This was causing him a headache. He didn’t need Jin to meddle with his life, not when Jimin was someone else’s.
“He left a long time ago,” Yoongi said. Jimin nodded but didn’t move from his spot. Instead, he opened up the messenger bad he had wrapped around his side and pulled out an envelope. Yoongi looked at him curiously as the omega took a step and motioned for Yoongi to take it.
“Then I’ll give it directly to you.” Jimin said, placing it into Yoongi’s hands before the other could protest. He was curious to see what it was, so he opened it slowly as Jimin watched him. Inside the envelope were the money orders he had given to Jin to give to Jimin as a parting gift. When they had broken up, Yoongi had promised that he would still pay for Jimin’s college, and now it seemed like Jimin was returning the money back. He was getting rid of everything that had to do with Yoongi.
Upon seeing Yoongi’s puzzled expression, Jimin decided to explain himself. “I don’t want your charity Yoongi, I can pay for my own tuition without you. I only agreed because we had a deal, but it wasn’t fair anymore so I’m returning everything you sent me.”
Yoongi hated that. The fact that Jimin was telling Yoongi that he didn’t have any more use for him. That he officially didn’t want anything to do with him. It was painful; Yoongi didn’t want this to end.
“Jimin,” he tried but the younger cut him off.
“Please Yoongi, don’t argue with me, just please.” It was the desperation in his voice that caused any thoughts of Yoongi arguing with him to cease. The omega looked so small right now, so vulnerable, and all Yoongi wanted to do was envelope him into a huge embrace. But instead, all he could do was nod in agreement. Jimin let out a small smile at that, obviously happy with the result.
“Then, I should get going,” Jimin said. He turned to leave, but Yoongi wasn’t going to let him get away this time, not without a final goodbye.
“Wait,” Yoongi found himself saying, “let me walk you out.” Jimin stopped mid step. He looked at Yoongi as if debating whether to let him or not. Perhaps it was the desperation in his tone or the sadness in his eyes that finally made Jimin agree with a slight nod. Yoongi didn’t know exactly why, but he let his shoulders sag in relief at Jimin’s answer.
He followed Jimin to the end of the hallway, keeping his distance as they entered the elevator. Once the elevator started going down - his office was on the highest floor so it would take awhile - Yoongi had to ask. He just needed to know about the man who took Jimin away from him.
“How did you meet?” It was silent in the elevator, besides the elevator music Yoongi hated listening to in the morning, so Jimin should have heard him. But the omega made no sign of having heard him. They spent the rest of the elevator in silence. Yoongi’s mind was racing but he didn’t know what else to say to Jimin. All he wanted now was closure. That’s all he needed to move on. He knew that he and Kihyun would never have a relationship like he had with Jimin, but maybe it could grow into something similar. Perhaps, letting go of Jimin was the best thing to do.
When the elevator reached the lobby, and the doors opened, Yoongi found himself grabbing Jimin’s hand to keep him from leaving his side. Jimin stopped in his tracks, too stunned to push Yoongi away. They stayed like that for a matter of seconds, the two of them looking at each other in the eyes, looking for words left unsaid, for feelings that were never broadcasted. Yoongi tried to channel all if his sadness and regret into his look, hoping Jimin would catch on. He had a feeling they would never see each other again - at least not as familiars - and he needed Jimin to know, needed to know how he felt because this was their goodbye. It was their final goodbye.
Jimin was the first to move. He gently used his other hand to unwrap Yoongi’s hand from his own. He held onto Yoongi’s hand for a second, cradling it with both of his hands like it was the most valuable thing in the world. Yoongi wanted to hug him, to tell the omega how much he cared but he couldn’t be selfish. Not when the omega was already with another alpha. Not when he was having someone else’s pup. Finally, Jimin let go and walked out of the building. His footsteps were the only thing Yoongi heard as he left. They had said no words to each other, but Yoongi was certain Jimin had felt as sad as he had. The way his eyes teared up while they were looking into each other, searching for the lover they once knew, would forever be engraved into Yoongi’s memory. Because that’s the day Jimin left Yoongi. That’s the day Yoongi officially lost his love.
—
The next day Yoongi decided not to go into work. He had given Jin a lame excuse, citing that he had gotten sick from working too much. Jin didn’t seem to believe him in the text messages, but the man didn’t push Yoongi for answers. Instead, he told Yoongi to get rest and let him know that he would handle everything today.
It was nice to have the day off, nice to not have to worry about meetings, deal with angry clients, or come up with new business plans. For once in his life, Yoongi was free to do whatever he wanted. In order to keep himself from thinking about the pain of losing Jimin, he decided to keep himself busy.
The first thing he did was clean up his condo. As much money as he had, Yoongi preferred to clean up his own space than hire someone to do it for him. When he cleaned, he was in control. It took about two hours to tidy the whole place up - despite it not being too dirty the place was large - and by that time it was lunchtime.
One of his many passions was cooking, not that he was able to do much of it since he always worked. When he was with Jimin he would cook often, because the younger seemed to live off instant ramen and microwave rice due to his busy college schedule. Yoongi hoped he was eating better now for the child but quickly shook that thought out of his mind. Jimin wasn’t his to worry about anymore.
He was just about to start preparing lunch when there was an incessant pounding on the door. At first, he didn’t recognize it was his door because no one ever knocked on his door but the repeated pounded made Yoongi stop what he was doing. He quickly turned off the stove and rushed to the doorway, concern filling him. If someone was trying so hard to reach him, something bad must have happened. He realized he had left his phone in his room the whole day and wondered if someone had tried to contact him but couldn’t get a hold of him.
He quickly opened the door to see a very frazzled and angered Jin on the other side, arm raised to knock again.
“Jin?” Yoongi asked, puzzled, “what are you doing here?” It was odd to see the omega come to his home. They were friends yes, but the two of them didn’t really hang out outside of work.
When Jin finally got over his stupid and noticed that Yoongi had opened the door, he pointed his arm in an accusatory manner.
“You!” Jin exclaimed.
“Me?” Yoongi responded, pointing to himself. Jin sighed as if Yoongi should know exactly what he was referring to.
“I’m sick and tired of you and Jimin’s bullshit,” he yelled in exasperation. Yoongi looked at him in surprise. What did Jimin have to do with this? Yoongi had just decided to let go of Jimin, and now Jin was bursting into his house trying to talk about him. It made Yoongi frustrated.
“There’s no bullshit, hyung,” Yoongi started, crossing his arms together in defensiveness, “what we had is over.”
Jin let out an audible scoff, and Yoongi saw he was trying his best not to roll his eyes. Jin’s behavior was slowly starting to annoy Yoongi. What did Jin know about their relationship besides what he and Jimin had broadcasted? It’s not like Jin understood the situation, and Yoongi didn’t like people meddling in his love life. It was already fucked up enough with just him. Yoongi didn’t need it to be worse.
“What about the child?” Jin asked. And what about the child, Yoongi thought to himself. The child had nothing to do with Yoongi; it wasn’t even his. If anything, the child made it obvious that he and Jimin couldn’t be together. Jimin had made his choice and as much as Yoongi hated it, he wanted to forget about everything involving Jimin. Including the child. Especially the child.
“What about the child Jin? If I recall, it’s not mine,” Yoongi hissed, unable to keep the anger out of his tone. He was getting tired of Jin pressing him, not just today but for the past month, and he was trying not to let his frustration get the best of him. It was difficult, especially when it involved Jin.
Jin scoffed again, and he looked like he wanted to pull his hair out. Yoongi was done with this conversation. he had wanted to have a nice lunch and then maybe take a nice steaming bath, but Jin had to ruin his mood with talks of Jimin. The person he oh so desperately tried to forget, but deep down, Yoongi knew he never could.
“Goodbye Jin, I’m done with this conversation. Jimin and I are over. He has a family now, he doesn’t need me.” He tried to close the door in Jin’s face as the man had never left the foyer, but Jin put his foot in between the door frame to stop the door from closing. When Yoongi tried to move his foot, Jin persisted by putting his whole body on the door.
“Move, Jin,” Yoongi warned, using his alpha voice, that he reserved for dire situations like this. His commanding voice would make almost any omega listen to him, including Jin, and he saw how the other man started to move out of the way. But Jin always had to have the last word and this time wasn’t any different. Before Yoongi could slam the door in his face, Jin yelled, “For fucks sake Yoongi the child is YOURS.”
Yoongi stopped in his tracks, his mouth agape as he gawked at the words that had left Jin’s mouth. Lots of emotions starting running through his head - surprise, suspicion, anger, happiness, relief among others. One moment he was surprised, the next he was happy and relieved to have heard those words leave Jin’s mouth. But lastly, lastly came the anger and suspicion because how did Yoongi know that Jin was telling the truth? Not that the man had any reason to lie to him, but if so, that had meant that Jimin had lied about his pup. Their pup.
Yoongi looked at Jin’s face for any signs of a lie, but the omega was looking him straight in the eye. He wasn’t showing any signs of lying, and Yoongi was starting to doubt Jimin’s truth. His resolved slowly started to crumble down. All the walls he had built to give Jimin up were starting to crumble as he fought with himself.
Was Jin lying? Or was Jimin lying? He didn’t know. How badly he wanted the pup to be his, to have a reason to fight for Jimin and his love. He knew he had messed up, but he refused to let their relationship end if he could save it.
“The child is mine?” He finally said to Jin, voice barely above a whisper but Jin nodded solemnly. It was enough to break Yoongi’s resolve. Within seconds, he was rushing back into his apartment to get his keys and put on his shoes. He didn’t give Jin a chance to speak as he was pushing him out of the doorway and fumbling to lock his door.
“What are you doing?” Jin asked him. Yoongi turned to give him a quick glance of acknowledgment and continued to fumble with his keys until he was turning the lock.
“I’m going to see Jimin,” Yoongi told him with determination. Jin blinked.
“Do you really think that’s a good idea?” He asked.
“Probably not, but I have nothing left to lose and I need to tell him how I feel.”
Jin nodded and smiled as he grasped Yoongi’s hand for a second to give it a squeeze of encouragement. “Good luck Yoongi.”
With Jin’s words of encouragement, Yoongi took off, hoping he would get answers from Jimin soon enough.
—
He had been to Jimin’s apartment multiple times during the course of their affair, relationship - whatever it was - so Yoongi was very familiar with how to get there. It was dangerous to drive the way he was doing right now, especially in the likes of Seoul, but he was a man on a mission and he would not let anything get away of him and Jimin. To him, it felt like a scene from a drama - the part where the main character raced to their love after learning they actually loved them after all. He felt the adrenaline building as he raced through the streets of Seoul, speeding up when he saw the traffic lights turning yellow instead of slowing down.
There was a nervousness bubbling under all his adrenaline, but he tried to push that away as he drove. Being nervous wouldn’t help him now, it would only impede him from the task at hand. In another minute he found himself at Jimin’s apartment building. Finding parking was relatively easy this time of day, everyone was still at work and Yoongi was thankful for that. He pulled into the nearest parking space and turned off the ignition after placing his car in park. For a second he tried to calm his beating heart.
This was it. After Jin had told him that the pup was actually his, Yoongi had been determined to face Jimin and get answers. But now, he was starting to feel the panic from earlier slowly start to creep up as he didn’t have anything to distract him. What if Jimin didn’t want to talk to him? What if he didn’t want anything to do with Yoongi. He imagined how lonely Jimin must have felt when he found out he was carrying a pup and the alpha who had helped him conceive wanted nothing to with him. Jimin must have been so lonely and distraught. Omegas needed their alphas during such a crucial period of their life, and Yoongi hadn’t been there for him. It hurt him deeply.
No, he couldn’t dwell on that. It was too late to think about the past - Yoongi was determined to be there for Jimin in the future. He had never had a great childhood and didn’t know how functional relationships were supposed to work, but he was set on trying to do his best with Jimin. Before he had never thought about settling down with an omega and starting a family, but Jimin was different. Jimin had managed to break down all his walls and make Yoongi break the three rules he promised he would never break. Jimin was special and Yoongi was set on showing him. If the omega would let him.
With his resolve back, Yoongi opened the door of his car and quickly stepped out. He didn’t notice the person walking out of the building until he had run into them.
Yoongi was about to muster an apology when he noticed who it was. They were wearing more casual clothes than the last time he saw them, but Yoongi recognized the alpha that had been with Jimin the day he and Kihyun had ran into them. The two of them looked at each other in shock and Yoongi quickly tensed. Even if the alpha wasn’t the father of Jimin’s pup, he still was potentially Jimin’s partner at the moment.
The other alpha was the first to recover from his shock. He regarded Yoongi with a cool expression, almost as if he was trying to size Yoongi up. Although the alpha was taller than him, Yoongi tried to make himself look as intimidating as possible. He wouldn’t let this alpha get the better of him. Not when he wanted to talk to Jimin.
He expected the alpha to tell him to leave, to tell him that he was protecting Jimin from him. Yoongi was ready with words of his own to tell the alpha, but instead, he just let out a deep sigh and pointed at the door.
“He’s in his apartment.”
“What?” That wasn’t the answer Yoongi was expecting. The other man shrugged and put his hands in his pocket lazily. He looked like he was bored with this whole situation and was trying to hold back in a yawn, but was barely succeeding.
“Listen, Jin told me that you know and I’m not about to fight you for Jimin. It’s my duty as my best friend to make sure he’s happy, and to do that you dumb fucks need to make up already.” Yoongi decided to ignore the man’s crude words to gawk at him.
“Pardon?” At Yoongi’s shocked expression, the man let out a toothy grin and chuckled.
“You thought Jimin and I were together? Please, I love Jimin but I couldn’t imagine having to put up with him as more than just my platonic soulmate. He’s all yours dude.” Yoongi wasn’t sure what to say, surprised by the words that were coming out of the other alphas mouth. Seeing as Yoongi was making no effort to move, the other man shrugged and started walking off. Before he did so, he took one of his hands out of his pocket to lightly pat Yoongi on the shoulder.
“Good luck man, he’s stubborn but he loves you. And from what Jin told me I know you love him too.” With those parting words, the other man left him there. It took Yoongi only seconds for him to recover from his stupor. Relief couldn’t begin to cover his feeling. The fact that the alpha was not Jimin’s lover made Yoongi happier than he should be. Knowing that he had a chance to make things right with Jimin kept him going as he trekked into the building.
The wait for the elevator was tortuous, it reminded him too much of what was supposed to be their final parting at the office. When the elevator dinged and the door opened. Yoongi quickly stepped in. The ride up felt like an eternity but couldn’t have been more than a minute. Yoongi tried his best to calm his beating heart, taking deep breaths to calm down his nerves. As the elevator doors opened he knew that he was out of time. It was now or never. Before he could back out of it, have all his resolve shatter, Yoongi stepped out of the elevator and watched at it started its descent down to get its next passenger.
With nothing else keeping him, he walked down the hallway to Jimin’s apartment. He had been here multiple times with the omega, especially when the omega would force him to get sleep and the alpha didn’t want to drive home after dropping him off. Curling up next to Jimin in his full-sized bed was a lot more intimate - albeit more uncomfortable - than his king. Feeling the warmth of Jimin’s body pressed to his as they slept made Yoongi feel complete. He missed that feeling. That feeling of having Jimin by his side.
It was that feeling that finally gave Yoongi the courage to knock on Jimin’s door. The wait felt as long as the ride up, but it could have on been a matter of seconds. Yoongi heard shuffling from the other side of the door and soon the door was creaking open to reveal a very bemused Jimin, who hadn’t seemed to realize who exactly was at the door.
“Taehyung, I swear you always leave something when you come-“ Jimin started. He was holding a beanie in his hand, presumably the alpha’s from the sound of it, but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw who exactly was at the door.
“You’re not Tae,” Jimin commented. It was a dumb response, both of them knew but were too shocked to see each other to actually care. The two of them looked at each other for a moment, Yoongi longing to reach over and pull Jimin into a tight embrace before the omega tried to close the door in Yoongi’s face.
Yoongi was faster than him, thankfully, and he was able to wedge one of his feet between the door and the frame to keep Jimin from closing it all the way. Jimin struggled to move Yoongi, but the alpha wouldn’t budge. He knew Jimin was strong, he knew the omega could push him away if he wanted to, but he wasn’t. Yoongi took that as a good sign; if Jimin wasn’t pushing him away, then maybe they could fix this.
“Jimin,” Yoongi said to the struggling omega behind the door, “I know.”
At those two words all the fight seemed to leave Jimin’s body. His shoulders sagged as he let go of the door, allowing Yoongi to open it with ease, and he looked tired. Yoongi could see the bags under his former lover’s eyes and exhaustion to accompany it. He thought about all the sleepless nights he must have had knowing he was carrying Yoongi’s pup but unable to tell Yoongi. It hurt. All he wanted to do was comfort his omega, but he couldn’t. Not yet. They weren’t there yet.
“Who told you,” Jimin asked weakly. All the previous fight in him was gone and he seemed resigned in his manner. Yoongi felt his heart break just a little. This wasn’t the omega he knew, he was determined to bring him back no matter what it took.
“Jin,” was Yoongi’s reply. Jimin let out a deep sigh and then chuckled as if to say he should have known Jin would be the one to tell Yoongi. He motioned for the other man to enter his apartment, and Yoongi did after a moment’s hesitation. Once they were in, neither moved further inside. They looked at each other, both wondering what to say next but neither unsure of what words to let out. It was Jimin who finally broke the silence.
“Please, I wanna keep it.” Jimin’s voice was barely above a whisper, and Yoongi almost didn’t hear him at first. But the moment those five words registered in his brain, his alpha was growling. Had Jimin thought he had come all of this way to tell Jimin to abort the pup? Their pup? It would make sense since Yoongi was a high profile man and Jimin wasn’t. If the media found out about the CEO of the Min Corporation’s pup out of wedlock, there would be a frenzy. However, Yoongi didn’t care about the media or his public image. Jimin was way more important to him than that. He would throw that all away if he could have Jimin and his pup safely in his arms for the rest of his life. And he was determined to let Jimin know that.
He never expected to have a pup from a sugar baby relationship. It had been the reason he had made the three rules in the first place. He didn’t want a child to grow up knowing his parents didn’t love each other like Yoongi had. But this was different. Yoongi loved Jimin with all his being and Yoongi knew at one point Jimin had loved him too. It was knowing this that made Yoongi finally confess what he should have told Jimin the day they broke off their arrangement. Instead of lying like all those months before. Yoongi knew it was time to tell the truth. No matter the result.
“Jimin,” Yoongi started in a firm tone and the omega looked at him in surprise, his eyes wide and a little apprehensive to the words that would be coming out of Yoongi’s mouth. “I would never make you get rid of our pup. When I found out you were expecting, I immediately thought it was my pup. And I was happy because I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time, but I was too scared to admit it.”
Jimin seemed like he had something to say, the look in his eyes told Yoongi, but the alpha wasn’t ready to stop. “The night we broke off our engagement, I was already in love with you. And I knew it, but I was scared you wouldn’t feel the same. Scared that I broke all my rules for nothing, and I couldn’t do that Jimin. But then I learned how you felt for me and it was too late, too late to go back on my hurtful words. And now I need to apologize, and tell you how sorry I am for making you go through this alone. I don’t want you to anymore Jimin, if you’ll let me, I’ll make sure you and our pup are forever cared for. Please.”
He knew his pleading sounded way to desperate but Yoongi couldn’t care at the moment. It was his way of telling jimin, of being vulnerable and showing the omega that he was sincere. He loved Jimin and he would spend the rest of his life showing Jimin, if the omega would let him.
Yoongi should have expected the slap, but the sting still surprised him and he reached up to keep Jimin’s hand there. Jimin was looking at him, eyes filled with sadness and frustration, tears streaming down his face as he did so. All the moments Yoongi had wanted to comfort Jimin and couldn’t were gone; now that Jimin was here, Yoongi pulled the omega into his arms. He let the omega bawl into his chest, knowing he was the cause of his sadness and hating every second of it. He could feel his own tears falling and soon the two of them were crying, crying over the missed moments together and the joy of their pup. It was what they both needed to heal, and Yoongi was grateful for being able to have Jimin in his arms again.
When Jimin wrapped his arms Yoongi to keep the alpha from leaning, Yoongi knew that the omega was silently telling him to never leave him. And Yoongi promised himself he never would. Now that he and Jimin were together, he would spend his life protecting the omega and their pup. Fuck his rules. Jimin and their family was the only thing that mattered.

Yoongi never expected himself to fall in love. It was the reason he had decided to entertain the idea of sugar babies in the first place when Jin had jokingly suggested it. A sugar baby meant a casual companionship with no strings attached. Yoongi could have a relationship without the unnecessary feelings attached. And he had all the money in the world, so he hardly cared for a true relationship.
That was until he met Jimin. Jimin had managed to change his mindset in a matter of weeks, but Yoongi didn’t know it. He had fallen for the omega fast and easy. His cheery smile, the way he looked out for Yoongi, and his overly caring nature had made Yoongi fall hard. When he realized he was in love, Yoongi had been scared. But now with Jimin pressed against his chest as he slept, and as Yoongi thumbed the bite mark on his neck that indicated they were finally mates, Yoongi was glad that he had fallen in love. Having Jimin securely in his arms was the best feeling in the world. He wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The three rules he had, had been simple enough to follow in theory, but when Yoongi created them, he never expected to find his mate. They had been broken as easily as Yoongi had made them, and for Jimin, Yoongi didn’t care. He was finally happy. He was going to have a family. And that’s all that mattered. In the end, Yoongi realized, there was no rules in love.
