Work Text:
Jungkook is sure that he's never met anyone like his Yoongi-Hyung in his entire life, and he's not really sure what to do with it. He's not sure what he could do with it, either.
He'd dated before in high school, nothing really serious until the girl he dated for an entire year back in senior year. They were each other's firsts, they'd been happy the whole year, until she left him for someone else. It was fine, he'd been fine, but it wasn't until Taehyung and Hoseok started dating that Jungkook really acknowledged that he'd even want to date a man. So far, nothing and no one had really caught his attention, until-
Well, until he sent Seokjin-Hyung's cookie trays to the ground because he had been too busy looking at the smaller man behind the counter to check where he was going. After, it was a race against time, lumpy cookies in a box that weren't uniform because Jungkook is not the baker Namjoon is. Still, Jungkook somehow found himself accepting a date with the man behind the counter.
Then they ended up having to cancel last minute because Seokjin-Hyung was really sick and Yoongi refused to leave him, so Jungkook invited everyone along and they all helped take care of Seokjin, and Jungkook got to cuddle Yoongi. Namjoon insisted that he could take care of Hyung all by himself, told Jungkook and Yoongi they should go on their date anyways, so Jungkook brought Yoongi to their place.
They had coffee, Yoongi showed Jungkook an easy way to make a breakfast omelette that he still couldn't do without help, and they'd put the television on, talked for hours about everything and nothing. It was perfect, even if it didn't really feel like a date.
Jungkook told Yoongi that he was adopted, that Namjoon was his real brother even if they weren't blood related, that he'd never seriously dated a man, and that he was scared that he'd somehow ruin this.
Yoongi told Jungkook that the last person he'd dated seriously was Jimin, that they didn't even notice their love fading to something softer, something more brotherly than lovers until it had already happened. After that, Yoongi hadn't dated anyone because of the shop. He admitted that Jungkook wasn't the only one who was scared.
Silence fell after a while, Jungkook laying on his back on the couch while Yoongi had slowly inched closer, had looked down at him and asked if he could lay there with him. Jungkook said yes, of course he said yes, and with Yoongi pillowed on his chest, they fell asleep.
Jungkook had woken up before Yoongi, curled up under a blanket off of his own bed, and knew Namjoon had been home, was still home, judging by the shoes at the doorway. Yoongi woke up not too long after that, gave Jungkook a hug and left.
They'd seen each other on and off for the next week, when Yoongi had messaged Jungkook about a movie night at his and Seokjin's place, and Jungkook ended up carrying a very tired Min Yoongi right up to his room. Yoongi had refused to change into pajamas, pouted at Jungkook to stay on the chair with him and they curled up together again.
Yoongi had napped for almost two hours while Jungkook laid there and wondered if they were boyfriends or not. Dating was one thing, something casual, but Jungkook didn't want casual with Yoongi. They held hands sometimes, cuddled up to each other to sleep, but they hadn't kissed yet, and he didn't want to pressure Yoongi into anything that he might not want. When Yoongi jolted awake after everyone fell asleep on odd surfaces in his and Jin's apartment and tugged Jungkook down the hall into his room, Jungkook had meant to ask about the boyfriend thing right then and there.
However, Yoongi had changed into these pink soft pajamas that left Jungkook's mouth dry and his eyes wide, and Yoongi had patted the side of his bed, so Jungkook had cautiously climbed into bed beside him and tried not to seem like he wanted to touch Yoongi all over. Yoongi had curled up next to him, hummed a little, and then fallen right to sleep.
Jungkook had laid awake for hours before falling asleep.

Now, Jungkook is on his way to The Last Epiphany after finishing his second to last midterm, which means he gets a whole two weeks away from school that he can dedicate to his brother, his friends, and his maybe boyfriend.
That's a conversation that Jungkook isn't really looking forward to, especially since it's been roughly a month since Namjoon and Seokjin-Hyung started dating, and Jungkook is just now starting to wonder about his own relationship status.
Shaking his head, Jungkook pushes through the door with a small smile when he sees the Halmeoni from their building talking to Namjoon up at the front of the line, her eyes crinkling the way they do before she starts laughing. She's been coming here nearly every day, Namjoon had said, especially since she and Seokjin finally met and he made her a birthday cake. Jungkook waves at Namjoon, dips his head when Halmeoni wiggles her fingers his way, and pushes into the small break room just before the kitchen doors.
He sags into the chair in the corner that he's claimed for himself, leans his head back against the wall and closes his eyes. It's nice here, Jungkook can listen to the bustling of the shop and relax for a little while, letting the smells and sounds of the place seep into him. There's a soft rustling that makes him smile, the gentle clink of a mug settled in front of him.
Jungkook opens his eyes and spots Yoongi first, sitting across the table from him, his hands wrapped around his own mug. There's a small smile on his face, his head is ducked shyly, and the tips of his ears redden after Yoongi lifts his eyes and catches Jungkook staring. A softness in Jungkook's chest swells so large that it makes him take a huge gulp of coffee that's just shy of burning, just to make that feeling stop. It doesn't help that Yoongi kind of laughs at him when he hisses on a wince.
“It's not nice to laugh at people, Hyung.” Jungkook reminds him not unkindly, unable to stop his own smile when Yoongi crinkles his nose and sticks his tongue out at Jungkook.
“Where's the fun in that , Kook-ah?” Yoongi shakes his head and takes a sip from his coffee, closing his eyes with a pleased little sigh. With his eyes closed, Yoongi looks like he could fall asleep right there in his chair, but then he opens his eyes, and that look in his eyes has Jungkook nearly choking on his own mouthful of coffee again.
“Me not burning myself, that would be pretty fun.” Jungkook slurps his coffee again for good measure, biting back the wince from the burn. Yoongi snickers again, but his face softens the longer he stares at Jungkook. It's nice, makes Jungkook feel thoroughly seen, and he ducks his head, hiding his grin in his coffee cup.
From the back, Namjoon calls for Yoongi to come help him, so he stands with a sigh and stretches himself out. His shirt rides up, gives Jungkook the smallest hint of a lean, but soft belly, the faintest little trail of hair leading down into his pants. Jungkook averts his eyes so fast that he's not sure how he hasn't given himself whiplash.
If he'd been paying attention, he would have seen Yoongi noticing the attention from Jungkook, would have seen the pleased blush seep into his cheeks, would have seen Yoongi creep closer.
As it is, Jungkook hadn't been paying attention, so therefore he's a little caught off guard when a very red faced Yoongi presses the gentlest of kisses against Jungkook's cheek and shuffles out of the doorway without another glance back. Jungkook stares after him, his mouth hung open.
He stares. And stares. And stares , until someone clears their throat and Jungkook's eyes flick to an amused looking Seokjin.
“Why do you look so surprised that your boyfriend kissed you? Is it because he's at work? Namjoonie and I kiss here all the time, it's no big deal.” Seokjin waves his hands like it'll wave Jungkook's worries away, and makes himself a cup of coffee, humming as he does so.
“That was our first kiss.” Jungkook mumbles to himself, ignoring the clang of kitchenware across the small room. It was a nice kiss, too. Maybe they are boyfriends.
“What do you mean that was your first kiss?” Seokjin hisses sharply, looking down at Jungkook in confusion. “You guys have been dating for longer than Joonie and I have!”
“I mean that that was our first kiss, Hyung.” Jungkook shrugs, tries not to touch where Yoongi kissed him too much. Seokjin's still standing there with his mouth open and it doesn't make Jungkook feel any better. “What?”
“Nothing, Kook-ah. Hyung's just being stupid, that's all.” Seokjin tries to reassure, but the confusion on his face is a little too much for Jungkook to make sense of right now.
Seokjin looks unsure is the thing, and it makes Jungkook feel antsy as all hell about this, about him and Yoongi, so he decides to leave. He may or may not be panicking just a little.
“I gotta go. Tell Joon-Hyung that I'll see him at home.” Jungkook stands, pours the rest of his coffee down the drain, and grabs his schoolbag. He's not proud of the way he practically runs from the little shop or the way he ignores his phone alerting him to a few new text messages.
When he gets to the apartment building, Jungkook stays away from his and Namjoon's place, knocks on Hoseok and Taehyung's door instead. Jimin opens it, takes one look at Jungkook and drags him inside. He doesn't say anything, and neither does Jungkook, he just allows his bag to be taken from his hands, let's himself be pushed onto the couch and coddled.
Usually, he hates that, when someone tries to baby him, but he's confused right now, and the contact is appreciated.
“Taetae and Hobi-Hyung aren't home yet. Do you want to talk about it?” Jimin busies himself running his fingers through Jungkook's hair, and Jungkook sinks into it until he feels nearly drugged and shakes his head. “You don't have to talk, that's fine. You know I'm going to tell Namjoonie-Hyung where you are, though.”
Jungkook pouts, but Jimin simply raises an eyebrow at him, like he's daring Jungkook to disagree with him. But he doesn't, because he has self preservation skills, no matter what Namjoon thinks, and he sinks under Jimin's touch and eventually falls asleep.
--
Jungkook wakes up to soft murmuring and the wet sound of kissing. It takes him a while to remember where he is, and he turns over, spots Jimin perched in Hoseok's lap. They're pressed together as closely as they can be, a small smile on Jimin's face while Hoseok stares up at him seemingly in disbelief. They both look stupidly happy, they're giddy with it, taking the time to smile at each other before Jimin presses another kiss to Hoseok's lips. Before long (between one sleepy blink and the next, it seems) Taehyung is there too, pressing his lips first to Jimin's and then to Hoseok's before glancing over at Jungkook.
“Oh, Jungkookie.” Taehyung stands straight, grins unabashedly at his friend while one hand rests on Jimin's shoulder, the other entangled with Hoseok's. “You're finally awake.”
“Thanks for letting me crash here for a little while, you guys.” Jungkook mumbles, rubbing sleep from his eyes. It was a great nap, Taehyung's couch is super comfortable, 10/10 would nap again. He stretched himself out with a groan, ignoring the snickers from his friends when his joints crack and Jungkook whines. Jungkook fully intends on collapsing back into sleep again, but a well aimed kick to the shin has him startling into sitting up.
“Do you mind telling me why I had to tell Yoongi-Hyung that yes, you were here, yes, you seemed upset when you got here, and that no , he couldn't talk to you because you fell asleep?” Jimin is snuggled between Hoseok and Taehyung, his legs crossed, and looking a little on the annoyed side. It doesn't take much to make Jimin annoyed, so Jungkook isn't really too worried yet.
“I don't really want to talk about it if that's okay, Hyung.” Jungkook admits, fully expecting Jimin to let him off the hook. What he's not expecting is for Jimin to jerk out from between Hoseok and Taehyung, for Jimin to look down right angry with him.
“That's not good enough this time, Jeon Jungkook.” Jimin looks serious, deadly so. His hands are on his hips like he's ready to scold a naughty child. “You came here to get away from something, and then my Hyung showed up here looking like someone kicked his dog. What the hell is going on with you two?”
“I don't know ,” Jungkook answers honestly, and it seems to take all the anger out of Jimin immediately. Instead, he pouts, gestures for Jungkook to keep talking while Taehyung pulls Jimin back between him and Hoseok. “I really don't know. We've been on one date and I really like Hyung, but I don't know if we're really dating or boyfriend's or whatever. We don't really do much romantically, but today Yoongi-Hyung kissed me on the cheek and it was our first time going past hand holding and cuddling.”
“Do you want Yoongi-Hyung to kiss you?” Taehyung asks, tilting his head over and studying Jungkook. None of them seem mad anymore, which makes Jungkook feel a little more relaxed than he was before.
“Yeah, I want that.” Jungkook quietly admits, looking down at his lap instead of at his Hyungs. It's easier to say out loud than he thought it might be, but still hard to say in front of them.
Hoseok hums for a minute before talking to Jungkook while Taehyung and Jimin quietly converse together. “Yoongi mentioned something about you being inexperienced, could that be why the both of you are moving so slow?”
Jimin and Taehyung chorus an “Ohhhhhh.” that has Jungkook feeling more than a little embarrassed.
“You're saying that Hyung won't kiss me because I've never kissed a guy before?” Jungkook tries to deadpan, but he's pretty sure all he does is sound a little pathetic and worried. He didn't want his inexperience to get in the way, that's why he told Yoongi about it in the first place.
“Yoongi-Hyung isn't the type to try and rush something.” Jimin admits with a small smile, leaning heavier against Taehyung. It takes Jungkook a second to realize that out of everyone here, Jimin would be the only one to know that genuinely about Yoongi. It also explains why he got so mad, earlier. “He's probably just waiting for you to make a move.”
It makes more sense than Jungkook would really like, and the realization has him scrambling to get off the couch. He really needs to talk to Yoongi. Jungkook trips over himself more than one in his haste to get to the apartment door, snagging his bag off the ground. He shouts a hasty goodbye, ignores the full blown laughter from behind him and shuts the door behind him.
From there, it's a quick jog up to his own apartment, and Jungkook can tell immediately that it's empty. Namjoon didn't come home again. Jungkook sighs, a little dejected, feeling both happy and sad that his brother is finally making leeway with someone, that he found a person to love him like he deserves.
Still, it takes the excitement out of Jungkook, so he kicks off his shoes by the door and shuffles down the hallway to his room. He doesn't bother putting the light on, just drops his bag in the chair by his desk and sits on the edge of his bed.
A little sniffle makes Jungkook jump right off the bed again and dart across the room to flick the switch, relieved to see Yoongi stick his head out of the blankets.
“God, Hyung. You scared me.” Jungkook laughs breathily, his heart still pounding hard. His relief doesn't last long, not with the redness around Yoongi's eyes, or the way the light shines off of the tears on his cheeks. Worry sits like an anvil in Jungkook's chest, makes him rush to the bed and crawl over to Yoongi, tentative to touch, even though he wants to. “Hyung? What happened?”
Yoongi shrugs, wipes at his face with a too long shirtsleeve that Jungkook is pretty sure had been hanging in his closet earlier. He scoots closer to Yoongi, takes one of his hands and squeezes it gently.
“Did you run from me today, Jungkook?” Yoongi asks, his voice barely a whisper. It looks like the very thought pains him, he squeezes his eyes shut and more tears stream down.
“Not you exactly , no.” Jungkook admits, pulling Yoongi's hand up and pressing it to his cheek. Nuzzling his hand, Jungkook presses a kiss to Yoongi's palm, watches his Hyung's eyes focus back on him. “I was caught in my own head this morning, trying to figure out what we were. Boyfriends, casually dating, and I think I stressed myself out a little. Seokjin-Hyung saw me after you kissed me, and when I told him it was our first kiss, he kind of…”
Jungkook trails off, unsure of how to continue when Yoongi sits a little straighter. “He put his foot in his mouth and made you think something that isn't true?”
“Pretty much, but it wasn't his fault. I was already so worked up.” Jungkook admits, shrugging his shoulders when Yoongi comes close enough for Jungkook to feel his body heat. “I didn't mean to fall asleep at Hoseok's, but I guess I was still tired from midterms. Then the Hyungs calmed me down and made me realize things.”
“Like what?” Yoongi asks, seeming genuinely curious. Jungkook is just happy that he's stopped crying, he smiles and lets Yoongi pull his hand back into his own lap.
“Like maybe we haven't kissed because I haven't asked you to and you don't want to push your boundaries with me.” Jungkook doesn't bother wording it like a question, especially not after Yoongi blushes a pretty pink and shrugs his shoulders.
“I wasn't sure that you really wanted to yet, and it's not like I was going to force you into it.” Yoongi rolls his eyes, but it's more playful instead of self deprecating this time. “It's your first time dating a guy after all.”
“Hyung, I want to kiss you all the damn time.” Jungkook quickly blurts, looking away from Yoongi's obvious surprise.
Yoongi doesn't say anything, doesn't ask any questions, just simply allows Jungkook to gently tip him down until he's laying on the blankets and looking up at Jungkook. Jungkook smiles down at Yoongi, wide and toothy, and straddles his Hyung's hips, leans over him. Yoongi looks smaller than usual like this, tucked up under Jungkook.
“Can I kiss you, Yoongi-Hyung?” Jungkook wants to ask, wants to show Yoongi that he cares too, that he won't force him either.
“You can kiss me anytime you want.” Yoongi admits seriously, lifting his arms up, winding them around Jungkook's neck. It's nice, this easy contentment surrounding them now that they got everything cleared away. There's no stress, no worry, just companionship, and if Jungkook is honest with himself, the beginning of something that feels a lot like love.
It's that thought that has Jungkook dipping down, capturing Yoongi's lips in his own. It's an innocent kiss, a gentle press of lips that has the both of them humming against each other's mouths, makes them smile. It's the kind of kiss that feels like a promise, and when Jungkook pulls back, looks down at Yoongi who keeps smiling even with his eyes closed, Jungkook wonders if he's not the only one thinking about the potential for love, here.
--
It happens a week after they talked things through, when they decided that yes , they were boyfriends and yes , kissing was not only nice, but definitely alright and okay to do.
Honestly, it had started like every other day that Yoongi stayed over at the apartment and Namjoon ended up at Seokjin's.
Jungkook had woken up first, jumped in the shower and contemplated trying to make something edible for him and Yoongi, but by the time his shower was over, Yoongi was already awake judging by the smells coming from the kitchen. A little disappointed but much more fond, Jungkook pads out to the kitchen and sneaks up behind Yoongi, wrapping arms loose around his waist and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
If Yoongi startles, Jungkook doesn't feel it, so he presses another kiss against his cheek for good measure and pulls away, starts to make coffee instead. It's easy enough for him to do, and it's probably the only thing that Yoongi lets him do around the kitchen since Jungkook set a skillet on fire. They're still not really sure how it happened.
Once the coffee is done, Jungkook grabs them two mugs, pulls the sugar container out of the cupboard and goes to tip some into both mugs, but Yoongi snags it from his hand with a laugh.
“That's salt, Kook-ah.” Yoongi snickers, shaking his head when he replaces the container, gesturing next to the coffee machine where the actual sugar jar is. “You're a legitimate disaster in the kitchen.”
Jungkook is still tired, under caffeinated, and he'll blame that for why he says what he does. “You love me anyways.” He freezes when it leaves his mouth, muscles tensed and ready to run if need be, but Yoongi just snorts, handing Jungkook his mug of coffee just the way he likes it.
“Yeah,” Yoongi admits with a laugh. “I do.”
It hits him a moment later, Yoongi's cheeks redden, and he hunches a little, but the smile stays, bright and happy, and it leaves Jungkook breathless. There's warmth in his chest, a simmering heat that soothes him from head to toe.
“Yeah? You love me, Hyung?” Jungkook takes a step closer, hopeful and hesitant all at once. It should be too soon, it should feel like it's too soon, but Jungkook thinks it's weeks in the making.
“Don't be an idiot.” Yoongi grumbles, and for a split second, Jungkook pauses, suddenly unsure. Yoongi notices, because he notices everything that Jungkook does, and he offers a smile Jungkook has yet to see. “Of course I love you.”
“Oh,” Jungkook babbles inelegantly. “That's pretty great news.”
Yoongi snorts and shakes his head, takes the next few steps to be pressed very lightly against Jungkook. “Yeah? Why's that?”
Jungkook doesn't hesitate to touch Yoongi, never hesitates with touching Yoongi, simply rests his hands on his shoulders and smiles his own nervous grin. “Because I love you too, and that's all that matters.”
Yoongi starts laughing first, bright and brilliant, and happy , but it doesn't take long for Jungkook to join him. They stand there, connected in more ways than purely physical, and bask in the joint revelation. Jungkook and Yoongi grin at each other, and it's so easy to press their lips together, so they do. Eventually, they'll have to finish cooking, Yoongi will have to go to work and Jungkook will have to write an essay even though he's technically on break.
For now though, they stay wrapped together for a while, and wonder at how it feels to be so lucky in love. For now, they simply let themselves be.
