Summary
Her life changed in 2012 when Loki walked past her station on the helicarrier. That day's consequence? Reassignment to the subarctic, the substation where the Capsicle was at one time. With the news of Loki's death, it became a waiting game: for TPTB to decide she'd learned her lesson, to be brought home again, to see who of the station's 3 inhabitants would crack first.
When Loki appeared striding towards her down a hallway she thought she knew the answer. Maybe she didn't know as much as she thought about the men she was protecting, the station she was guarding, or the god everyone always told her to trust as far as she could throw.
Again, Loki left her to the consequences of her choices. In a post HYDRA world SHIELD needed all hands, & she was brought home again. Given a station, but never a task. The devil finds work for idle hands, as the saying goes. Seeking out everything alien, anything potentially linked to Asgard, has a consequence. For our agent it meant stumbling upon a disc that zapped her to another world, a hellhole where she stayed until Loki & Thor appeared, whisking her to safety.
Every time Loki appears there's a price to pay. This time she just might not live to pay it.
