Work Text:
You stood in front of the mirror, smoothing out your skirt, smiling to yourself. The ring of your phone broke your focus, looking down you grabbed it, looking at the caller. Shoto Todoroki, your boyfriend. You smiled feeling the flower of happiness bloom inside of you. Your relationship with Todoroki started six months ago, although he liked you before then.
You recall back to your one month anniversary; Todoroki took you out to the fanciest restaurant you’ve ever seen, and he acted as if it was nothing. The class all knew him as the stoic, emotionless boy, but you saw something different. He had things that no one else saw, you knew behind the strait face that he was something more. When desert finally came around he grabbed your hands, you stared into his eyes as he started talking.
“You know,” He gave you a soft smile, “I started to realize my feelings for you, like, forever ago.”
Your eyes grew wide in surprise, “Really?”
“Huh, yeah.” He let go of your hands, “I was too scared to tell you, scared that you might reject me.”
You laughed, “I would never! I had liked you for a while too.”
He smiled at your confession, “I’m just glad we’re together now.”
“Me too.” You smiled.
He looked away, “I just don’t think we should tell anyone else.”
Your smile faded as you eyed him curiously, “Why?”
He stared at you with a serious look, “Because the people in our class are annoying.”
You laughed loudly at his statement, gaining looks from the others in the restaurant. His face didn’t break as he stared at you, waiting for you to get done laughing. “If people know we’re together, villains could use that against one of us,” He looked away, growing embarrassed, “I don’t know what I would do if you ever got hurt.”
You stared at him, feeling a weird shift in your heart, “I’m not going anywhere.”
You smiled at the thought as you clicked on the green button, accepting the call. Before you could even begin talking he was already making plans. He had asked you if you wanted to go out to eat and then the park, saying he wanted to enjoy a day out with you. You had laughed and asked him who annoyed him enough to want to leave the dorms, you waited a second for his response before you heard him whisper ‘Bakugou’, which just made you laugh all the more. You told him you were already dressed and ready to go, he told you to meet you by the dumpsters outside the hall before hanging up. You grabbed your purse and slide your phone back into your pocket, giving yourself another look in the mirror before leaving.
You walked over to the elevator, sighing in relief as it opened immediately, you stepped through and pushed the button for the main floor. When the door opened you looked around before stepping out, watching if anyone was on the main floor. You finally stepped out now that the coast was clear, making a beeline for the front door of the dorm building. You opened the front door, feeling the warm air hit your face you walked to the side of the building, now seeing the dumpsters in sight. You picked up your pace, not wanting to keep your boyfriend waiting. As you got closer, you finally saw Todoroki’s hair in sight. You tapped his shoulder, he slowly turned around, upon seeing you his mouth turned up in a smile.
“Hey.” He greeted you.
You smiled, “Hi.”
You both stared at each other awkwardly, before Todoroki opened his mouth again, “You look nice.”
“Thank you. You look nice too.” He gave you a nod, grabbing your hand, leading you to the nearest sidewalk.
You both walked hand in hand, contently making ways to the restaurant, you broke the silence, “I think we should find another secret hiding spot.”
He gave you a weird look, “Why? No one goes near the dumpsters, it's perfect.”
You looked away, mumbling, “Yeah because it’s the dumpsters.”
“What was that?” He asked.
You laughed, “Nothing, Nothing. The dumpsters are just gross but you’re right, it is a pretty good hiding spot.”
He gave you a small smile, before turning to stare out in front of him, you followed now staring down as your feet walked in rhythm. When you both made it to the restaurant Todoroki had opened up the door for you, and he even pulled out your chair for you; You imagined how proud Kirishima would be from Todoroki being so respectful.
During the end of the dinner you had watched Todoroki reach into his back pocket, you wanted to protest but you knew it would just lead to an argument. You watched Todoroki flip it open, bringing out enough cash for the bill.
You smiled, noticing the picture he had put into his wallet, “I can’t believe you got that printed out and put it in there.”
He gave you a confused look as you gestured to the picture of you both smiling and cuddling that he had put into his wallet. He glanced down at it, blushing slightly as he brought it outside of the pocket.
“It was a nice picture,” He told you stilling staring at it, “I wanted to take it everywhere with me.”
You beamed at him, your chest contorting in elation, who knew someone could make you this happy?
The scene was interrupted when the waiter brought back Todoroki’s change, quickly giving him a thank you he took the money and stuffed it back into his wallet, along with the picture of you two. Todoroki put the wallet back in his pocket and stood up, obviously ready to leave. You took that as a queue to stand up too, grabbing your purse in the process. You both made your way to the door, Todoroki had opened it for you both, but before you could step out you both were met with pounding rain on the pavement.
“It’s raining.” He turned to you.
You sighed, “No shit.”
He took off his jacket and handed it to you, “Put this on so you don’t get a cold.”
You didn’t argue, sliding on the jacket that was much too big for you. “What are we going to do?” You asked.
“Well, we can’t go to the park now,” He sighed, visibly disappointed, “We’re going to have to walk in the rain or wait here, but I don’t know how long this rain is supposed to last.”
You sighed again, slouching your shoulders in defeat, “I don’t wanna wait here.”
Todoroki grabbed your hand, leading you outside of the restaurant, wet drops of rain started to make its way onto your dry clothes, “Ready to run?” He gave you a smile.
Before you could actually argue with him, he had pulled on your arm, dragging you along the pavement. You let out a laugh as you both started jogging on the sidewalk, maybe you should’ve brought an umbrella.
When you would get tired you would pull on Todoroki’s hand, giving him the signal to slow down. He would stop and look at you slouched over, hands on knees and panting. He chuckled when you did this for the fifth time, “You know, we’re almost there.” You didn’t respond as you were still trying to regain your breath. You could barely hear him through the loud patter of the rain, noticing it was getting heavier than before. You stood up, he reached out to take your hand, but you didn’t take the offer, he looked at you through his wet hair, wondering why you wanted to stand out here longer than you had to. You moved closer to him, now face to face, trying your best to ignore the rain that was beating down on you both.
“Can I tell you something?” You asked.
“Of course.” He replied.
You felt your body grow hot, now embarrassed you had really said anything. You thought back to the moment you watched him look at the picture of you both; remembering how happy he looked, even when he was just looking at a picture.
“I, um, love you.” You mumbled anxiously.
He looked at you with wide eyes, shocked that you would say something like that. His felt his face grow red, embarrassed by your confession. You felt a pang of regret grow through your body, maybe the rain wasn’t so bad, it would mask your tears from rejection right?
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I just tho-” You started to turn away, but Todoroki had grabbed you, forcing you to face him again.
“I apologize,” He started, “You know I’m bad at this,” You nodded. “All my life, I never knew love, my mother hated me, and my dad only wanted to use me.” You stared at him, “I’m glad that the relationship between my mom and I are getting better, but no one has shown me love like you have.” He stopped, staring down at you, “I almost don’t deserve it, but I want you to know that I feel the same.” You were rendered speechless, about a million thoughts running through your mind, you couldn’t think of anything good to say after already confessing your love for him. You moved forward and wrapped your arms around his torso, borrowing your head into his chest as your wet cloths sloshed around you both. He returned the hug, wrapping his long arms around your neck as he rested his chin on the top of your head. You both stood on the lonely sidewalk, tight in each other’s brace before breaking apart.
Todoroki reached out his hand again, “Let’s go before we catch a cold okay?” You nodded, giving him your hand. You both jogged together, making it back to the dorms just in time for bed.
“You go in first.” You stated, shoving Todoroki through the door, making sure the coast was clear for you both. After a minute your boyfriend came back outside, nodding that no one was inside to spot you both entering together. He grabbed your hand again leading you inside of the dorm house, dragging you past the furniture and to the elevator, he pushed the button for his floor and yours.
When it finally got to his floor you stepped out with him, you hugged him again like before, your wet clothes getting water all over the floor.
“Goodnight.” You said breathing him in.
“Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow at school.” He pulled away.
You nodded and stepped back inside the elevator, you gave him a small wave as it closed.
He watched it close, “I love you.” He mumbled watching the number above the door move to your floor.
When it was finally morning, your hair was finally dry, you cursed, regretting not staying up later to shower. You lazily put on your uniform, not caring about your appearance for today, just wishing it was already after hours. You looked at your phone, seeing a text from Todoroki that he was already on his way to homeroom, but that was 30 minutes ago.
Todoroki was sitting at his desk, wondering if you’ve woken up by now, hopefully you were on your way. Midoriya, Ochako, and Iida were all standing at his desk, surrounding him. They were rambling on about something that he never paid attention to, the conversation too far in for him to ever make a comment.
Todoroki stared at the others, watching their conversation die down. Midoriya started to speak again, “I’ve been wanting to try that new restaurant by the dorms, but I have no money right now.” He frowned.
Ochako put a hand on his shoulder, “Maybe next time Deku.” She smiled at him, Iida nodded agreeing with his friends statement.
Todoroki felt remorseful for his friend too, wondering what he could do to help. Without giving it a second thought Todoroki reached in his back pocket, taking out his wallet.
“If you need money for food,” He opened it, “I can give you some cash.”
Midoriya’s face flushed red, “No,” He started, waving his hands, “You don’t have to do that!”
“It’s no problem,” Todoroki said as he rummaged around, his wallet must’ve shrunk from the rain yesterday. He pulled out the money a little bit more forceful than he should’ve, his money went flying, along with the picture of you both that he stuck in there. It had landed on his desk, some of the money making its way to the floor. He thought he put the picture back in its rightful place, he felt stupid because he obviously forgot to put it back. Everyone grew silent as they stared at the picture in front of them, no one said a word. Todoroki stared at the picture, not like he had at the restaurant, this time all he felt was embarrassment; He wanted to disappear.
Midoriya broke the silence, making everyone breaking their gaze from the picture, “Why do you have a picture of you and Y/N?” He asked what probably everyone was thinking.
Todoroki stayed silent, not knowing what to say, he looked up at everyone around him. All of their features matched his, faces beat red; Sinking in second hand embarrassment.
Ochako scratched the back of her neck, “It’s a cute picture!” Todoroki stared at her, “Are you guys together?” She asked nonchalantly.
Todoroki couldn’t think of any excuses, “Yes.” He answered with a straight face, trying not to make this situation worse. His friends all just nodded and turned away, Todoroki grabbed the picture and stuffed it back into his wallet; Midoriya grabbed Todoroki’s money from the floor and offered it back to him.
“Keep it.” He smiled at his friend, “Please.”
Midoriya only nodded, his face blooming red again, “Okay, thanks Todoroki.”
Todoroki was thankful that everyone had forgot about the picture they saw, and stopped talking about it. Now they were deep in conversation about new moves and strategies, Todoroki couldn’t be bothered to join in.
Suddenly the conversation was cut short when you came up behind the group, “Hey guys!”
They all stopped, surprised by your arrival, they didn’t move a muscle. Now knowing the secret of you and Todoroki, it was now going to hard to confront you.
“Hey! Good morning!” Ochako said, breaking the silence.
You gave them a smile, “Maybe we should get to our seats now.” Midoriya muttered, Iida nodded.
The group dispersed, watching you move closer to Todoroki, now engaging in conversation with him. The three now moved onto Ochako’s desk, wanting to give you and Todoroki space, she sat down, staring at the two boys in front of her.
Iida smirked, shoving Midoriya’s side with his elbow, “You owe me lunch now.”
Midoriya rubbed his side and chuckled, forgetting his bet with Iida. “Yeah, sure.” He laughed.
Ochako looked at them, obviously confused, “What are you guys talking about?”
Iida pushed up his glasses, “Midoriya and I noticed how friendly they were getting a couple months ago. So we made a bet, I said that they were already dating and Midoriya said that they weren’t. That picture has to be from forever ago because Todoroki never wears that shirt anymore.”
Ochako put her hand on her chin, “Good thinking.”
Iida nodded, “Now, Midoriya owes me.”
Ochako could only giggle at how intimidating Iida tried to look. Midoriya reached into his backpack, grabbing his bento box. He handed it to Iida while he grumbled in protest, Iida took it with a smile.
Midoriya sighed, “A bet is a bet after all.”
