Work Text:
Usually, Yoongi does well with new people: But this time when he sees a new worker through the glass door, he freezes on the spot. He has this nagging feeling in the back of his head that he knows this man from somewhere. He is just standing there, one step in front of the door, staring at a man behind a desk with furrowed brows.
Yoongi slowly studies his face, trying to remember where he must have seen him before. The man has a sharp jawline that makes him look manly, but at the same time his cheeks are full, making him look more childlike. His blond hair looks so good parted to the side, showing off his forehead. An uncomfortable feeling grows in Yoongi. The feeling of knowing a face but not being able to match it with a place or event.
He feels incredibly uneasy, not being able to tone down his thoughts. Did he really just meet the man? He wishes to know what happened between them if they really met or if he just saw him somewhere. Maybe he is just similar to somebody Yoongi knows, but he just can’t put a finger on it. It’s making him think that maybe he pushed the memory of this person out of his mind.
So Yoongi does the only thing that seems like a good plan and he slowly backs away. He isn't going to face the unknown if there is a possibility of just leaving. He is sure he can find a temporary solution for this situation, and it probably involves Namjoon.
“Yoongi hyung, can we change back?” Namjoon whines as he closes the doors to their shared flat behind him.
Yoongi looks up from his book, giving him puppy eyes, something he has never seen until a week ago when Yoongi ran into the main office begging for somebody to change workplaces with him.
“Just a few more days, please.”
Namjoon slumps his shoulders, sitting in his favorite big chair and hiding his face in his hands. “You are lucky there is a cute guy working there or I wouldn’t agree.”
At that Yoongi slams the book shut, glaring at Namjoon, which his friend doesn’t see. “Which guy?” He tries to sound nonchalant.
“You probably know him well, he’s a manager.” Namjoon waves him off, looking at the ceiling. Yoongi lets out a breath he was holding in. “I could ask for his number, he seems kinda into me but I don’t want to make things awkward if I’m just imagining things.”
Namjoon’s shoulder sag as he hides his face in his hands.
“If he seems interested, he is interested. Believe me, Jin hyung goes straight to the point.” Yoongi shrugs.
Namjoon peeks at him between his fingers, “Hyung? You are that close?”
“I mean, I’ve worked for him since I was old enough, we don’t really talk.”
His friend nods his head slowly as he pouts his lips, something he tends to do when he is thinking. “And what do you know about the other one?”
Yoongi hopes that Namjoon didn’t see any changes in his facial expression as his heart skipped a beat. “What other one?”
He hopes he sounds convincing. Since Namjoon agreed to change hospitals with him he is much calmer about the new worker. Still, he thinks a lot about the young man, the feeling not giving him any peace. It’s really bothering him.
“You must have seen him, he told me he is working there for a week or so.” He can see as Namjoon’s eyes go from narrow to wide open like it’s a slow motion while Yoongi tries to avoid his eyes, and then there is a dramatic gasp. “Hyung!”
“No, I don’t!” He argues like a little kid, even though he isn’t sure what the accusation is.
“I haven’t even said anything! You are avoiding him!” They are both screaming, Namjoon stands up, with a big smile on his face. “You like the cute new guy!”
Yoongi jumps up from his spot, throwing the book on the couch. “Don’t call him cute!” He stomps his foot.
“Then what is this reaction?” Namjoon asks, laughing.
“I don’t know!” He screams truthfully.
Yoongi does the only thing he has been doing for the last couple days, running away to his room. Namjoon is right after him. “Hyung, you are red!”
Yoongi tries to close his doors but Namjoon is faster than him, blocking it with his foot, still in his shoes.
“For your information, I’m really pale!” He tries to push the door shut once again but Namjoon easily pushes it open and enters.
“I want all the details.”
Yoongi wants to scream from embarrassment, “There is nothing, okay? I just think I met him before.”
They look at each other, Namjoon trying his best not to laugh while Yoongi pouts at him. “Don’t be mean about it.”
Namjoon coos at him and tries to cup his cheeks, but Yoongi slaps him away, making a disgusted face. “If you won’t stop it, I will tell Seokjin that you shit with the door open.”
“I don’t! It happened once and I thought you aren’t home!” Namjoon screams in his own defense.
“Yes, you do.” Yoongi makes a gesture like he is zipping his mouth. “Forget about this.”
Although Namjoon hadn’t teased him about the guy who works at the hospital the very next day he sends Yoongi five sneaky photos of said boy behind his desk, minding his own business. Yoongi should be mad at him for bringing this up and for being creepy, but he enjoys the photos. He can’t find any explanation for somebody to be this beautiful even in weird angles.
In a weird way, Yoongi starts to think about the man in another way then just “I think I saw him” and it’s all because of those photos. Yoongi won’t lie to himself, he finds the man attractive and this makes him even more scared. What if he made out with him ages ago and just left him? That would be embarrassing. There is also another problem, which makes him even more scared to face the man. He doesn’t know if the man will remember him, no matter how they met.
Three days later it's finally Saturday, which means there is a weekend staff at the hospital's office. Namjoon refused to take his shift today but it’s not a problem. Yoongi makes his way through the hallway with confidence, sure that he won’t face the new worker, drumming a foreign rhythm on his folder. It's a warm day and he regrets not putting on some ripped jeans, but he will be able to go back home shortly after he is done with the paperwork.
Yoongi loves his job, it isn't hard and it's not emotional the way people think it is. Being a Grim Reaper is much different from what people’s imagination is making it out to be. He never has seen a dead body, all he does is go to the office where he confirms that somebody has died and signs papers that will later be handed to the family of said person. His work is basically an office job, but instead of having people who walk between institutions, he has to do it himself. It can get annoying, when people postpone getting the papers back to him or if he spots a mistake too late and he has to do everything all over again. Still, in the end, it’s just keeping the numbers of dead updated and help souls eventually get to where they need to go, though that isn’t his work.
He is doing well when it comes to money and is currently thinking about getting an apartment in Seoul since he is enjoying the place so much. He would still have to go back to Hell with his reports but he would have an excuse not to see particular beings. Yoongi still hasn't asked Namjoon what his thoughts about living on Earth are, since he doesn't want to move out alone. He likes to know that he isn't completely lonely. If Namjoon doesn't want to, maybe he should get a dog or a cat? He wanted a snake once but those all look like his ex-lovers now.
Deep into his thoughts, he makes his way to the office on autopilot, entering the room without even looking who is working on the weekend shift. And maybe he should, because right when the door shuts behind him, he realizes what he just got himself into.
Behind the only occupied desk, right in front of him, sits the person he was trying to avoid, and he looks beautiful. He seems not to be the only one who was not expecting this situation, the man's pen is frozen mid-air as he stares back at Yoongi. His blond hair isn't styled today, making his face look rounder, and for a second it rings a bell in Yoongi’s head. For a second and then he loses it. There is a blush on his face that slowly starts to turn into a deep shade of red and Yoongi gets concerned.
“Hi?” He says, trying to look relaxed while he tries to remember where he saw this face before.
The young man seems to come back into reality, giving Yoongi a tight smile and a nod. The panic rises as Yoongi thinks he can see recognition in the man’s eyes.
“Who are you?” He asks, his voice sounding sharper that he wanted it to.
“I- Well- I work here. Who are you?” The man asks, sounding a little taken aback.
Yoongi just stands there as his brain starts to process the question, but words don't leave his mouth. Instead, he slaps the folder on the desk, making papers fly off of it. “Sign those.”
His brain is in a full panic mode as he walks out of the office with nothing more. Yoongi stops three steps out and realizes what he just did. He starts pacing back and forth battling with himself if he should go back and apologize or if it is a good time to resign.
He decides to leave the paperwork for another day and just go back home, to lock himself in his room and maybe scream. Yoongi goes into a dead end alley he normally uses to teleport between worlds, feeling more and more angry with himself the further he goes from the building. He really hopes it's too early for anyone to see him walking back home as he isn’t in a mood for a talk.
Yoongi snaps his fingers and in the next second he is back in Hell, which at the first glance looks like Earth during a sunset. The first thing that stands out is the lack of people, the streets aren’t really used as demons don’t like to walk if they can just teleport. Of course, there are so-called new youths who walk everywhere but it’s not the most enjoyable experience. There is not a single living plant, just naked bushes covered in thorns.
The air in Hell isn’t fresh, there is no breeze like the one humans can feel each day, such a normal thing for them. Everyone here has a job, nobody is in pain due to pain, however, everyone is bored. Hell is a place that humans see either as never-ending pain or a place where all sinful pleasures happen. None of this is true.
Due to those conditions, everyone here wants to work in a place where they can be allowed to travel to Earth. In the beginning, Yoongi didn’t really care, he didn’t believe in all those things everyone kept whispering about on the school corridors. He always kept his grades at just high enough that his parents wouldn’t make any problems for him. It changed when he went to a rap concert on Earth that Namjoon sneaked him and Hoseok in. He went only after they both begged him for days, he was scared to get caught on Earth without a pass.
This night changed his life forever and even if his parents were surprised as his grades started to become better, they weren’t against that. Yoongi got scouted for a Grim Reaper with Namjoon’s help and they both started their adventure. It was a lot of studying but it opened so many possibilities in life. He is enjoying his work and he has already a couple of good years behind him, so far he has no regrets or big mistakes.
This new office worker and the uneasy feeling are a brand new situation for him and he isn’t sure how to deal with it. He could ask his friends but he feels shy and stupid about the whole thing. Even if he would want to ask Namjoon or Hoseok for help, what he would ask for? Won’t they tease him about it? He feels embarrassed without their two cents. But on the other hand, if he would tell them Namjoon would go to the office and pick up the documents, he also could apologize for him and say that Yoongi is actually a nice guy.
He could possibly score himself a couple of points.
He keeps thinking as he mindlessly enters the apartment and walks straight into his room. He falls into his bed, covering himself with a blanket, ready to fall asleep and forget about this day even if just for a moment.
It’s not given to him, as he can hear the door to the apartment open. Yoongi turns away from the door, trying to mute the loud stomping of Namjoon’s heavy shoes around the apartment.
“The hell did you do?!” Namjoon screams, letting himself into his room.
Yoongi sits up quickly, ready to defend himself. “We don’t walk around in shoes.” He points at Namjoon’s bleached styled hair, big black boots, and a long shirt, flowing like a dress. “And why are you looking like a goth prince?! Where are you going, huh?!”
Right as he speaks Hoseok walks into the room, looking a little scared but curious as he looks at Yoongi.
“Hyung, don’t change the subject.” Hoseok says with a teasing smile.
“This is the subject!” Yoongi whines.
Namjoon glares at him. “I had a date when Jin got a phone call from his co-worker.”
“So?” Yoongi huffs, getting up from the bed.
Namjoon is naturally taller than Yoongi but whenever he wears platforms he feels like a child next to him. And he is experiencing this now.
“He said that some Yoongi-ssi threw papers onto his desk and left. Jin is mad so the date was cut short.” Namjoon says, looking at him with rage in his eyes.
Hoseok fake coughs, “It’s your fault.”
“No, it isn’t,” Yoongi points finger at Hoseok “You should be on my side.”
Namjoon takes a deep breath, looks at the ceiling and when he looks back at Yoongi he has a sweet smile on his face. “Apologise. I thought you found him cute.”
Hoseok’s eyes grow big, “He does?”
Yoongi looks at them silently, his lips closed in a tight smile.
“Oh, he does!” Hoseok laughs, holding onto Namjoon.
“Buy him flowers and say sorry nicely.” Namjoon says in his father’s tone.
He dramatically moves the material of his long outfit and leaves, not letting Yoongi any chance to voice his objection.
Yoongi doesn't understand why should he make a spectacle out of this, he just found the situation weird. And maybe he thought that the man is cute but this isn’t why he acted like this.
He falls back onto his bed with a groan, feeling hopeless.
“So, he is cute?” Hoseok asks, sitting under a wall.
Yoongi closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. “Yeah, but that’s not a problem.”
“Then what is?” Hoseok sounds surprised, probably not expecting Yoongi to just agree with him.
He sits up, looking at his friend’s curious face. “I have a feeling that I saw him before but I have no idea where and it makes me feel uneasy.”
“Could you ask him?”
Yoongi glares at Hoseok. “Just try to picture that. What if I was a dick to him or I embarrassed myself? I thought that maybe I’m imagining things but-” he cuts himself, hiding his face in hands.
“But?”
“Today I saw his eyes growing wider, you know, like he has recognized me and I panicked.” He almost whines.
Hoseok laughs at him. This is what his friends do to him. How is he supposed to call them friends? All he gets is clowning.
Jimin looks at the glass door, still processing what just has happened. There are papers flying all over the place from the impact of the folder hitting his desk. There is a lot of questions he has, there is also a deep feeling of disappointment but he needs to push it down.
He gets up from his seat, brows furrowed, and starts picking up documents. Already, he can tell that getting them in the right order will take him a long time. He carefully puts the papers together in a pile on the desk, still kneeling next to it.
With all the ways this could go, what happened never was an option in his mind. It’s not like Jimin was expecting for the man to remember him but the way he behaved was weird, if he wants to be nice about it. And maybe it’s just Jimin’s hopeful thinking but he never even assumed the man could be a dick.
It’s a fact that time can change memories of a past event but Jimin can remember the man’s soft smile, nice voice. Their meeting wasn’t long and Jimin heard just two sentences from the man but he seemed to care, he asked if Jimin was okay and he handed him his phone. If anything, Jimin thought he has found somebody similar to him, even if their work was as a Grim Reaper.
He looks almost the same, a little more mature and his hair used to be black, now it’s in a color of sand. He looks good, very good but still, he wasn’t very nice.
This is very disappointing but that’s what crushes are. You see somebody, you like them for no reason and then you get over. The problem is, Jimin saw Yoongi twice and the man saw him once, five years ago. It would be normal for Jimin to daydream for a month max and move on to another guy with a nice smile. But it never happened. For years Jimin was nursing this stupid crush just to meet the man again and get this type of treatment?
Now, Jimin starts to make himself angry, Taehyung’s “I told you so” in the back of his head.
He wants to throw the folder into a bin but he can’t so he does the only thing that comes to his mind. Call his boss.
Min Yoongi - he reads on the folder.
“Sorry to call you on the weekend but something just happened.” He says immediately when the connection comes through.
There is a lot of noise in the background and if Jimin wouldn’t be so angry, he would apologize and wish him a good time on his free day, but not today. He is still new at the hospital, only working for a week since he got the job. Seokjin was the one who hired him and was nothing but nice, making Jimin feel comfortable, assuring him that he can come to him at any time.
When Jimin was younger he wanted to be a dancer but then he grew up and quickly realized, it won’t be possible. He went to University just like his parents wanted, majoring in book-keeping, also his parents’ wish. They wanted good for him, they wanted a stable work with benefits for him. Sure, in the beginning, it wasn’t the most exciting thing but with time he became passionate.
“What is it?” Jin asks quickly.
Jimin sits in his black office chair, taking the folder into his hand. “Some Min Yoongi-ssi just came in, smacked his folder onto my desk and left.”
Seokjin says something and after a moment the noise dies down after couple quick “I’m sorry.”
“Yoongi did what?” Jin asks finally.
“He came in and-” Jimin starts once again, thinking that the room was too loud but Jin stops him.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s just- That’s very unusual.” He stops for a while, taking a deep breath. “Okay, I’ll call places and maybe get in touch with him. Don’t worry about it Jiminie.”
Jimin smirks, feeling like he won something. “Okay.”
He isn’t worried, he is excited.
While talking with Taehyung, one has to be careful, that’s common knowledge. The man is not only stubborn but in the end, he is always right. This time isn’t different and Jimin is tired of hearing “I told you so!” over and over again.
When Jimin met Taehyung at University, their friendship grew naturally from passing by each other at a corridor to loving each other endlessly. He felt like he finally found somebody who he can fully trust with his secret. Of course, his best friend always knew how to keep a secret but that didn’t mean he won’t tell Jimin what he thinks about it.
Taehyung was always telling Jimin to get over the Grim Reaper and find himself somebody who he can actually contact.
“Jimin, you don’t know this guy, do you?” He asked.
“He was nice, I’m sure he is a good person, Tae. His work doesn’t define him.” He would whine, looking at his textbook only to avoid eye contact.
“The fact that he asked if you are alright because you tripped doesn’t mean anything. And it’s not like being in a relationship between two words would work.”
“Some people work out!” He argued.
“Jimin, remember when in school they told us how those creatures lose immortality once they move to earth permanently? Do you think anyone would want to give up being immortal to live for fifty years in a small apartment in Seoul?”
Now when he thinks about it, he was always right. He was always fucking right.
There is no nice way to accurately tell what occurred at work, so Jimin just texts his best friend exactly what happened. Instead of his famous line, Taehyung invites him over for ice cream. Jimin really hopes there is also alcohol involved. He needs to have a drink, or twenty.
Jimin groans as soon as he invites himself into his best friend’s apartment.
“That bad?” Taehyung asks, walking out of the bathroom with a face of annoyance.
“Of all Grim Reapers around the world, he works in this hospital!” He whines, tiptoeing his shoes and loudly stamping his feet on his way to the couch.
Taehyung puts two spoons and a box of ice cream on the coffee table in front of him, frost falling onto the glass. “Shouldn’t you be excited?”
Jimin grabs the ice cream and opens it dramatically, feeling more and more annoyed that Taehyung is always right.
“I don’t like him anymore.” He states, biting into a spoon full of ice cream.
Taehyung sits right next to him , getting a little bit of ice cream onto his spoon. “Well, that’s bullshit.”
They sit in silence, Jimin can feel that Taehyung keeps glancing at him, waiting for him to start ranting.
“Couldn’t he be nice?” He finally snaps. “Like, this would be fucking amazing but no! He has to start with who are you! What even was that tone?!” His voice goes a little higher as he repeats man’s words in a mocking tone.
“Do you think he recognized you?”
Jimin sags into the old couch, licking the spoon. “No, and maybe that’s better.”
“Huh, why?” Taehyung asked, surprised by Jimin’s words.
He sighs sadly. “Maybe this will be an easy way to get over it, you know? Now, that I will actually meet him.”
Taehyung nods. “It sucks to be disappointed by a crush.”
“Yeah, it does.” He pouts, looking at his weird reflection in the spoon.
He knows that this should’ve be an option that he was considering, especially with his best friend constantly reminding him that it’s not worth to think about the Grim Reaper. But still, Jimin’s mind got stuck on the man. It’s a good thing his heart doesn’t hurt.
Each day Jimin wakes up at 5 AM to go to the gym, goes back to his small, cheap apartment, takes a cold shower and gets ready for work. It’s a new routine, today he starts his second week and he can’t wait to face Min Yoongi. He wants to see Jin’s killer glare when he comes in to pick up his dumb papers.
You could say that for the first time in his life Jimin is excited to sit in the room with a window that basically doesn’t let any sun in with how close the next wall is. He won’t let this inconvenience get in his way. Today, even the lack of light won’t make him gloomy because the excitement of seeing Min Yoongi getting scolded is making his blood run faster.
By the time he walks into the office, Jin is already sipping a steaming cup of coffee with papers scattered all over his desk. He welcomes Jimin with a sharp nod and goes back into mindlessly looking at a wall while drinking coffee that’s probably way too hot.
Jimin quickly has learnt that his manager isn’t into talking most of the mornings if he doesn’t have to. When Jin is ready to talk, he will, and it won’t end until they are leaving the office. At this point, Jimin knows more about the man’s life than an employee probably should. If the day isn’t extremely busy, Jin works while talking to Jimin and has not once made a mistake, whilst Jimin constantly writes a patients cause of death as Jin’s new favorite TV series.
In complete silence, Jimin manages to finish the whole folder Yoongi rudely left on his desk and moves on to the next tasks, putting the folder aside. He keeps looking at the black, shiny cover, waiting for the owner to show up, feeling like he is waiting for Santa Claus. It slows down his work on other important things and makes the waiting unbearable.
He just wants to enjoy the show already.
Usually, Jimin is extremely empathetic and loving, worrying over strangers and friends. But not this time, he wants to see Jin push this rude Grim Reaper into the ground so hard he will fall back into Hell. At some point, even Taehyung and Jungkook, his best friend’s new boyfriend, started telling him that he is way madder than he should be and maybe it’s the truth. They told him that he needs to stop masking his disappointment with anger but he isn’t angry. He isn’t. He just doesn’t like rude people.
He keeps himself busy, typing in information into his Excel sheet when the door opens for the first time today. It irks him to look up, to see if it’s his new enemy finally facing him but he decides to not. Jimin can see in the corner of his eye that Jin gets up from his chair and before Jimin can even process that information, the door close.
Thinking he is left alone, Jin probably out talking to somebody, he stretches up like a cat, curling his spine, shutting his eyes. Sitting at a desk isn’t good for anyone. He takes a deep breath, feeling his muscles relax. His lungs spasm when he opens his eyes with a lazy smile. Right in front of him, there is a man, not just a man. A very specific man.
Did Jin leave them alone in one room? Jimin surely hopes he will be back in a moment and he will tell this Min Yoongi how he acted badly and needs to apologize. Of course, Jimin won’t take the apology. He has the whole thing planned in his head and now it’s kind of getting ruined.
“Good morning.” The Grim Reaper says quietly, stepping awkwardly from leg to leg, hands behind his back.
If they wouldn’t be in their workplace, Jimin would be scared that he angered the wrong person and would now get a beating. But they are adults, Jimin complained to his boss instead of confronting the man himself and creating an unnecessary problem. He acted very maturely in his opinion.
Not getting any response, Yoongi’s shoulders slumped as he looks around nervously.
“I know we haven’t started on the best note.” He says, looking at the ground. “But that wasn’t my intention.”
Oh no, Jimin’s great scene that he daydreamed is completely ruined. Who told him to apologize? Now Jin won’t have a reason to make his life into a nightmare.
Jimin’s heart softness as he looks at the man in front of him, looking awkward and apologetic. He has a weak heart for cute things and God fucking damn it, Min Yoongi is as cute as he was all of those years ago. He is close to breaking point.
“I want to genuinely apologize. I acted fucking dumb and I’m sorry. I promise I’m not that bad, sometimes I’m just-” He sighs, a little frown forming on his face. “Sometimes I’m just awkward and I panicked. I’m really sorry. I’m usually really nice, Jin hyung says it as well.”
The rambling gets cuter and Jimin realizes how much he likes this man’s soft but deep voice and the little sounds he makes. He is trying his best to stop the smile that is growing on his own face, his heart beating faster and suddenly Jimin feels like there is spring inside him.
“It’s okay.” He hears himself saying before he even thinks about it. “I understand.”
Yoongi’s eyes meet his, making Jimin feel exactly like all of those years back when the Grim Reaper helped him get up from the ground. All anger in him evaporates in a matter of seconds.
“We can start over again, right?” He says with the biggest smile that almost doesn’t let him see Yoongi anymore.
The other nods quickly, smiling at him in a way that makes his teeth poke out and it makes Jimin want to cry and scream. So cute.
“So, I have finished all your documents.” He says, reaching for the folder. “I hope there isn’t anything wrong but if so, just come back.”
He gets up to pass the folder in a cultural manner, not like he had planned to by throwing it at the man with a frown.
“Oh!” Yoongi looks at the folder. “I honestly assumed you tore it into pieces.”
They stand in awkward silence as Jimin tries to say anything, but he feels like a deer caught in the headlights. It was one of the many things he wanted to do with Yoongi’s property.
“No, no! Why would I?!” He manages to finally squeal out.
Yoongi just smiles at him. Jimin’s hand is starting to hurt and he really wants for Yoongi to take the folder so he waves it awkwardly. “Here, take it.”
The Grim Reaper slowly moves his hands to the front, revealing a box of chocolates in one hand and what looks like flowers in a pretty pink paper with white polka dots in the other. Jimin’s eyes grow a little wider as he tries not to show any emotions that could tell the man too much.
“This- This is for you, as an I’m sorry gift,” Yoongi says, coughing awkwardly.
When Jimin looks up he can clearly see blush all over Yoongi’s soft cheeks. God, he is so weak for this man and just a moment ago he wanted to push him into a lion’s cave. He takes the chocolates with a big smile, ducking his head.
“You didn’t have to,” he says shyly as Yoongi takes the folder from his hand delicately.
Jimin sees Yoongi’s big hand putting the paper on his desk. He is starting to panic, he can feel hot blood coming to his face. Before he can find anything to say Yoongi takes a step back.
“I hope you will like it.” The older says in a hushed voice. “I’m sorry, I have to go. Bye.”
He moves quickly out of the room not giving Jimin a chance to look at him one more time or even choke out a goodbye. He feels a little disappointed that he couldn't look at the older for a longer time, but also relieved that Yoongi won’t see his blush.
Before the door can close behind the man Jin catches it, sliding inside the room, loudly sipping his coffee. Jimin is still standing, glued to the spot as he reads the box of the chocolates carefully. He reaches for the paper, peeking inside.
Branches. He is sure that inside the paper he sees branches. Is this some kind of a sick joke? A prank? He furrows his brows, moving the paper a little bit more to make sure he is seeing right.
Jimin doesn’t have time to get angry before Jin gasps, looking at the branches. Jimin’s eyes snap up, looking at the pure shock on his manager’s face. Suddenly he feels very ashamed, that he let himself be played and that Jin knows it.
“He got you flowers?!” Jin shrinks, stomping to his desk.
Jimin barely stops himself from making a disgusted face, taken aback. “No, this fuck brought me some branches.”
His manager looks at him like he is the dumbest person on Earth. “I can’t believe it! Namjoon never got me flowers!”
Jin walks up to him, his eyes locked on the paper and now Jimin is starting to think that the older is part of the prank. Maybe it’s some kind of a test? This surely has to be. Jimin hasn’t seen even kids looking with such amazement at some dry, thorny branches.
Jin looks at him with his mouth wide open, his eyes so big Jimin worries he might lose them. “He got you roses!”
“Hyung, those are some sticks,” he says slowly to him.
Jin huffs. “If we weren’t in work I would slap you. He brought you roses from Hell!”
With all of this informations, Jimin’s brain starts to have difficulties with connecting facts because he really doesn’t understand what’s the deal with couple thorny sticks in a pink paper. He got flowers before and this isn’t how they look.
“Those are sticks,” Jimin says, putting emphasis on the last word.
“Jimin, did you sleep through your classes on the culture of Hell?” Jin asks in a serious tone.
The younger nods dumbly. “Most of them.”
“Flowers in Hell don’t actually grow flowers or leaves.”
Jimin makes a long “oh” sound, the pieces in his brain finally starting to make sense. Suddenly he feels very protective, bringing the flowers closer to him. Yoongi got him flowers from Hell.
Jin moves away, picking up the signal to give Jimin his space.
“Do I put them in the water?” He asks dumbly, moving the paper so he can have a better look at roses from Hell .
Jin sits in his chair with a groan, twirling around once, laughing. “No Jimin, those will stay with you forever. They’ve never had water.”
Upon hearing that he sits down, laying the bouquet next to him, hiding the chocolates into his bag so he can munch on them in the evening while smiling like an idiot. He goes back to typing on his computer while glancing at the flowers, biting his lip.
From Hell or Earth, flowers need water.
“What will happen if I put them in water?” He asks, mainly to himself.
“Check.” Jin responds, his fingers not stopping their hitting of the keyboard.
The flowers are okay, you could say. Nothing happened to them. Deep down, Jimin had a hope that they would bloom and his life would be like a romantic movie, but nothing had happened.
To his surprise, it looks like everyone else knew right away what the branches sitting in a vase on his coffee table are. He looks at them each evening while having one chocolate with butterflies in his stomach. It’s all he is allowing himself, he wants to enjoy them for a longer time. He really wants to cherish something that Yoongi got for him.
The situation at work is normal, other than the fact that Yoongi has days when he smiles at Jimin and even talks to him and days when he just greets him and leaves soon after. Jimin has a suspicion that it’s all coming down to Jin being in the room. He is almost one hundred percent sure about that.
The older has already told him all about his boyfriend, who is apparently Yoongi’s best friend. Jimin remembers seeing the said man in his first week but he never paid attention to their conversations. He wants to ask him about the Grim Reaper of his interest but he isn’t sure if he can trust his manager like this. While he is dating a man who’s working at a different location, Jimin works at the same place as Yoongi.
Jin might not be a fan of him trying to flirt with a co-worker.
All Jimin can do is listen to Jin in hopes of him telling anything about the older, since the man himself isn’t very keen on sharing his personal life.
Could Jimin just make a move? Yeah, but he has no idea if the man is even single or into men. It could be a disaster if he got rejected like this. Plus, somewhere in the back of his mind he still remembers Taehyung telling him that no Grim Reaper would leave their immortal life to be with a human. He fights those thoughts in many ways.
For example, now Jimin has Namjoon as an exception from this rule. He would do it for Jin, right? Jimin likes to think that he would if all of those things Jin tells him about his boyfriend are true.
Jimin is back into his dreamland. He went to a library and found a good rated book about a love story like this, plus he uses all of his phone data to read forums about relationships between two worlds. Evidently, there is a lot of couples like this and mostly all of them seem to have nice, happy lifes. Of course, people break up, but why wouldn’t Yoongi and he work out? He feels, deep down, like they would be an amazing couple.
With his hands tied with lack of information, he has nothing else to do just to sit and watch Yoongi when he comes around. He has small wins in life like the fact that after a couple of long weeks, Yoongi asked him to call him hyung when Jin left the room for a second. So things are going great. Maybe one day he will ask about his favorite color.
Taehyung, seeing that he won’t shake Yoongi out of Jimin’s mind, caved in and started to help. His help is mostly by being Jimin's tutor for the culture of Hell. There is a lot of things Jimin’s never heard of, mainly because their teacher was boring him to sleep each class.
He was impressed when he found out how much knowledge one has to have to even apply for Grim Reaper exams. As a matter of fact, it made Jimin’s heart pick up as he went into a spiral, thinking about what an amazing man his crush is. Since he found out that Yoongi could live on earth if he wanted to due to his special work visa, he is more and more curious about man’s life.
Jimin thinks that Yoongi is absolutely a person, or a being, worth knowing and he will somehow find a way to know him. There are so many things he wants to know about the older. The first question is exactly how old is Yoongi? Is he some ancient creature who saw Cleopatra? If he did, he could tell Jimin all about her during their date. Or is he younger? Since he stops aging at twenty-five does it means he won’t grow a beard if he never grew it to this point? So many questions and most of them not even important.
In chaotic Jimin fashion, he tried flirting. But Yoongi either didn’t realize or didn’t want to return it. All Jimin knows is that Jin laughed at him for the rest of the day. The next day Yoongi looked a little red and maybe he isn’t the most informed but as far as he is aware, the older can’t get sick. So he stands by the version that the Grim Reaper was blushing.
The treadmill is probably overworked by this time but Jimin can’t stop. He is so done with thinking and lighting up with hope yet another time just to have it dowsed down the very next day. He is confused and so tired of guessing.
Today Jimin woke up extremely annoyed, the feeling clinging to him since yesterday. Yoongi came in the office looking even better than usual with his new light, ripped jeans and a simple black T-shirt. Was Yoongi working out? Probably, since Jimin had a very hard time getting his eyes off of the older’s arms, he had a good couple minutes to observe the flex of his muscles.
The man had the audacity to smile at Jimin and tell him that he looks nice today. Jin was in the room, which crushed his whole theory about Yoongi just being cold next to his manager. He feels constantly pulled and pushed for no real reason. If Yoongi likes him too, he could end this and ask Jimin out.
To add to the madness that was yesterday, Jin caught up on Jimin’s shyness and was teasing him about it. So now his manager is fully aware that he likes Yoongi and he will probably tell him even if Jimin begs him not to do it. A couple months into knowing his manager, Jimin would be an idiot to believe that Jin knows what the word secret means.
At this point, Jimin isn’t even sure what he is so mad about, but he is mad. He is so angry but he knows the second Yoongi will smile he will be back at square one and there is no hope for him or his heart. It’s all lost, he fell for a guy who is either not aware or would rather not know.
No matter how many kilometers he is running, the negative feelings don’t want to leave him. If he had more time he would box a little to try letting his frustrations out. Unfortunately, he has wasted all his time on running and now he will be sitting all day at a desk, boiling inside.
Jimin’s life is a mess and he got himself into it. He felt stuck in a circle while Taehyung was going out with his new boyfriend, Jungkook. He swore to himself that this month he will either go out with Yoongi or drop him. It’s getting ridiculous and he is surely too old to waste his time pining after a man. He should stop wasting his time and just find out if the elder will reject him or if they would live happily ever after. But it’s easier said than done.
Whenever he tries to flirt again and again he gets weird responses or Yoongi leaves, almost running away. Whenever he compliments the older he just gets a useless thank you. Whenever the conversation starts to go smoothly, Jin interrupts them and Jimin really starts to think he is cursed.
He takes a cold shower and changes into his suit quickly, slamming his apartment doors so hard he can feel the floor shaking. It helps a little bit but the feeling grows stronger than it was a moment later. All the way to his work he is annoyed at everything and everyone. The lady who’s standing on his way and the man who’s cigarette smoke travels all the way to Jimin’s nose. Those loud teenagers on the sidewalk, laughing and pushing each other, being way too loud. He is annoyed at how slow the automatic door to the hospital is and how the echo goes around the hallways.
Jimin sits on his desk harshly, the wheels making an awful sound. His manager throws him a lazy look from the corner of his eye and goes back to drinking his coffee. The silence of the room makes Jimin suddenly very aware of the noises.
This is all Yoongi’s fault.
The day goes by horribly. He keeps making mistakes in documents, he printed out one thing multiple times and each time just on one side of the paper. He can’t get out of his own head but he finally starts working instead of overthinking his feelings. Thinking won’t change much, except by making him angrier.
When the door opens in the late afternoon Jimin is spent with all of his emotions. Now in its place there is extreme tiredness and the need to be back home. His day brightens up immediately when he realizes who’s entered the room.
Yoongi.
The older smiles at him, bringing new life into Jimin’s body like a fresh breeze. It’s ridiculous, the impact Yoongi has over his whole life. His pure existence in the same room makes Jimin’s life so much better and it’s the total opposite of what people feel when they see a Grim Reaper.
For Jimin, Yoongi is like the sun. A pure purpose for him to get up. Yoongi has been this for a while, Jimin no longer getting up to go to the gym. Now, he is waking up to go through a day and each day the goal is to see Yoongi. This is what Jimin’s life has become. It’s annoying until he actually sees the older man.
Because when he sees him, it’s suddenly the best thing in his entire life.
The feeling doesn’t last long as Yoongi lays his black folder on Jimin’s desk, an apologetic smile on his lips. “Sorry, I’m having a rough day. I have to go now, they need my help with moving. I’m so sorry.”
And Jimin believes that he truly is sorry. Still, it hurts like to have the only nice thing in a day ripped away from you.
“It’s okay.” He responds softly, a little smile on his lips. “I hope your day gets better.”
Yoongi’s smile grows. “It already is.”
In old Yoongi fashion, he leaves the room before Jimin can answer, giving him a small wave as a goodbye.
Jimin basically melts into the chair, laying a hand on his rapidly beating heart. He can feel the pure euphoria running through his veins, his brain playing Yoongi’s words over and over again. Whether they were for him or not, he will take them and cherish them.
With a much better attitude he gets back into his previous work before he diving into a stack of papers Yoongi brought in. The folder looks thicker than normal, but he can definitely handle it with his new energy. He can feel Jin’s eyes boring a hole into the side of his face. Jimin decides to not even look at him, in case the older is looking for his cue to tease him about his red face.
By the time he sends everything he needs to and responds to emails, it’s almost time to clean up his workspace and go home. Yet, he doesn’t want to leave Yoongi’s folder without even starting. It looks like a lot of work and the last thing he wants to do is to make the older wait. He slides the folder in front of him, checking last couple Excel sheets.
Jin, who is already packing his things hurriedly all of the sudden slows down.
“Don’t worry, hyung,” Jimin says, saving a file. “I’ll be going home soon.” He assures his manager, who probably thought Jimin is planning to stay longer.
On any other day, he would stay to finish the work but not today. He needs to lay down and relax.
He opens the folder and freezes, making a small noise of surprise. Jin is looking at him, carefully studying his every move as he reaches into the folder.
Inside there is a bar of milk chocolate with a yellow sticky note written in Yoongi’s handwriting. With his manager’s eyes following his every move, he is trying very hard not to start giggling like an idiot when he picks up the chocolate bar. His hands are shaking a little bit and his mouth falls open.
I hope your day is as nice as mine when I see you.
Jimin feels the heat rushing to his face and even without looking in the mirror he can tell that he isn’t just blushing, he is bright red. This is too much, his brain can’t really recognize if this is a dream or reality.
“Finally.” He hears Jin sigh.
Not really being able to hold himself back anymore, he hugs his present close to his heart, pushing into his chair so hard he slides backwards.
He lets a giggle out. “Ah! It feels so nice.”
His manager just laughs at this, finishing packing. He is about to step out of the office, leaving Jimin all alone to giggle all he wants when suddenly he turns around, a smirk on his face.
“Maybe now you can stop pining.” He says, leaving Jimin to blush even harder.
Maybe now he can.
In the madness of trying to keep his routine consistent, Jimin is constantly running low on sleep because he is busy smiling at a vase of branches instead of sleeping. No sleep means that he is always late to the gym and then late from the gym, which leaves him no time to air dry his hair so he runs through the city with wet hair.
The wild ride ends up just the way Jimin should have suspected it to. He is sick. Not only he is sick, he feels like he is dying. Yesterday when he was going to sleep he was healthy as always, but today when his alarm started ringing, he felt like a corpse. In hopes of feeling better, of this being just a mild cold he went to the gym, came back and ran to the metro station with a wet head. The gym not only didn’t help, he feels like it made the whole thing worse. His sore muscles are weak to the point he needs to hold himself up.
As soon as he sits at his desk he feels a wave of heat immediately followed by a wave of cold. Yes, he is definitely sick. He will still try to work, or at least begin to work.
As soon as Jin walks into the office and sees Jimin, he stops in his tracks, squinting. “Jimin, are you okay?” He asks, tone suspicious.
“Of course.” Jimin rushes to answer, trying his best to smile.
His manager puts his mug down, crossing his arms. “I don’t think so. Pack your things and go home.”
“I’m fine,” he whines, really not wanting to be sent home.
“I can see that you aren’t,” Jin argues with him. Seeing Jimin’s determined pout he smirks. “You want Yoongi to see you like this?” He lifts his arms in surrender. “Okay, your choice.”
It should be Jimin who thought of this but somehow he hasn’t even considered it. In fact, he wanted to be in work to see Yoongi. He hadn’t thought, even for a second, that it might not be the best idea when he is trying to make the older like him back.
With an awkward smile, Jimin slowly gets up to pack his bag back up, with Jin’s eyes following his every step. If he didn’t feel and look so bad he would deny that he would even care for Yoongi’s opinion, but he has to stop lying to himself. His manager is aware of his feelings and seems to not mind it.
“Are you mad at me?” He asks shyly, zipping his bag.
There is a long moment of silence that makes Jimin nervous. “No, why would I?” Jin says softly like he is talking to a child.
Jimin looks up, giving Jin a small smile. “Because I like Yoongi?”
To his surprise, Jin just shrugs his shoulders, sitting at his desk and laying his legs on the desk. “I’m just annoyed that it’s taking you two so long.”
Jimin’s face must show his utter confusion when Jin looks at him and to be honest, he is very confused. “Us? What takes us too long?”
Jin rolls his eyes. “Just- I can’t talk about it. Go home.” He gestures to the door with a wide gesture. “Take care of yourself.”
He leaves just as he is told but decides when he is only a few steps from the door to go back, since Jin knows everything. He might as well be honest and ask questions.
“Hyung.” He walks back into the office, making his manager look up with a surprised expression. “If Yoongi asks about me, tell him I’ll be back tomorrow. Okay?” He says in the sweetest tone.
“Not if but when.” Jin corrects him, pointing a finger at him. “And not tomorrow, I don’t want your germs,” he says in a tone that leaves no room for arguing.
Jimin’s shoulder sag, well aware that if Jin says so then it will be like he wants. Which basically leaves Jimin banned from seeing Yoongi. He whines, throwing his head back dramatically. “But I’ll be sick for a while.”
“I’ll sneak you photos of his outfits, I know it’s your kink,” Jin says nonchalantly, eyes back on the papers on the floor that he dirtied with his shoes.
Although Jimin wants to fight for his honor, he wants some photos of Yoongi even more. “Deal,” he sighs.
Jin throws Jimin a side glance that makes him feel uneasy, like the elder is planning something. “Don’t worry, your knight on a white horse will rescue you from this oppression, I’m sure.”
“Okay,” he says slowly, getting hushed out of the office by a lazy wave of a hand.
“Bye, Jiminie,” his manager mumbles, cutting the conversation short.
On his very slow way back home Jimin goes out of his way to buy some medicine and food. He can act tough, but the closer he is to his apartment the more he feels like his body is falling apart. Usually, he feels strong and has no problem with carrying out tasks but now, as he is carrying a bag of ramen and a couple packs of pills, his arms want to give up. With a lot of struggle on the stairs, his legs starting to shake, he makes it home.
In a very hazy state of mind, Jimin drops his bags at the door and starts tearing off his clothes with painful groans as he makes it into his bedroom. This feels like it’s more than a cold. He starts to regret not going to see a doctor on his way back as he covers himself with a thick duvet and three more blankets. He feels cold and hot, his body is sweating and his skin feels more and more tacky.
After a long time of laying, hyper aware of his pain, Jimin falls asleep. He wakes up from time to time to whine to himself then fall asleep again. At one point the room becomes too hot, his head starting to pound loudly and he can’t fall asleep again.
Out of his covers it feels like he is outside naked in December. He quickly pulls out his winter pajamas from the bottom of his wardrobe, pulling a long gray sweater on top and walks at the speed of a snail to the kitchen. He fills up the kettle and sits spaced out while waiting for the water to boil. Knowing himself, Jimin takes a whole jug of tea with a huge mug and goes to carry the bags he left by the door.
No matter how much he feels like he is dying, he is on his own. There is no other option but to make himself eat, drink and shower from time to time. In a couple minutes, he makes a bowl of ramen that he doesn’t feel like eating but has to, to stomach the medicine.
He sits in silence with a permanent pout on his lips, trying to sip on tea that’s too hot, waiting for his ramen to be ready. The sun is still out, which is both good and bad. It means he still has more time to be sick but also means he didn’t waste the whole day on sleeping.
He reaches for his mug to try if the tea is cold enough when he hears a knock on the door. Jimin gets up and drags his socketted feet to the door on autopilot.
There is nobody on the other side, not a single person but there is a bag from a grocery store nearby. Jimin peeks out of his apartment, looking around the corridor.
“Hello?” he says weakly.
Not getting any response he takes one step outside, regretting it immediately when his foot touches the cold ground. Before he can fully take a step back, something or more like somebody appears in front of him out of nowhere, a light puff of black dust around them.
“Oh my God!” Jimin screams, jumping back startled and almost falling.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” Yoongi screams almost as loud as Jimin, echo carrying the sound around the complex.
Jimin’s heart stops beating for a second when he realizes that he just witnessed Yoongi using one of his powers. But most importantly, his crush is at his door. Even his sick mind stops thinking about being in pain for a moment so he can admire the Grim Reaper’s outfit.
He isn’t sure if his knees buckle because he has a fever or because of Yoongi. His hair. His hair is dyed black. To add to this, he is wearing an all black outfit of a turtleneck, fitted jeans, shiny boots, a beautiful coat, and framed glasses. He wears glasses and looks unfairly good. Jimin feels like he might cry at any point because the man looks like a hot professor. So good, so fucking good. He feels the urge to compliment the older and cry out a huge thank you to Satan for giving Yoongi such a great sense of fashion.
This is bad, this is very bad. Here is Yoongi, looking beautiful as always and Jimin feels like a dead body and probably looks even worse. This is not how he imagined his crush’s first time at his apartment. He is an incubator for disaster. It’s a disaster.
Yoongi speaks up once he sees that Jimin has calmed down a little. “Jin sent me here with some homemade food.” He steps from foot to foot, something Jimin associates with Yoongi being nervous.
It doesn’t make any sense for his manager to send Yoongi here and him agreeing to take time out of his day to do so. Jimin personally saw multiple times how hard it was for Jin to even make him take documents to the office he has to go into anyway, not letting to be in debt to other. But to be honest, he will just take it and enjoy it as much as he can. Even if all of the months of trying to look his best just went out of the window.
He moves out of the way to let Yoongi walk inside, bags in one hand. It’s kind of weird, to see each other in a different situation than work. For the first time in his life, the Grim Reaper is walking past him and he really wishes he didn’t have a blocked nose and could actually smell things.
Jimin closes the door, trying to collect himself as much as he can in this situation. His eyes lock with Yoongi’s, who is already done with taking off his shoes. It makes him realize he is being a very bad host, not inviting him further into the apartment.
“Come inside,” he says, walking in himself, leading them to the kitchen.
Yoongi walks in slowly, looking around curiously. “It’s a nice place.”
He isn’t sure if he should believe him, especially since he himself doesn’t like his apartment. It’s the best he can afford that isn’t hours away from his workplace and friends, so he deals with it. The walls are thin, neighbors loud and the neighborhood isn’t nice after the sun goes down. He doesn’t own any furniture and the ones that were already in the apartment have the typical grandma vibe to them.
“Thank you.” He answers slowly, following where his guest is looking, at old decorations hanging on the wall. “Do you want something to drink?”
Yoongi shakes his head in denial. “No, I won’t take too much time. You should be resting.” He puts the bag on the kitchen counter, scratching his neck and giving Jimin a tight smile.
Jimin is hit with disappointment so hard he isn’t able to hide it from the older, who smiles at him a little more natural, a little warmer. “I’ll visit you tomorrow if you want?” Yoongi asks him, a hint of teasing in his voice.
“I don't want you to get sick.” It’s the only thing outside of a million times yes that Jimin can think of and as soon as he says it, he realizes how stupid that sentence was.
Yoongi just laughs at him, his shoulders shaking with how loud he laughs. “That won’t happen but even if it did, I wouldn’t mind.”
The elders words are unexpected and completely take Jimin by surprise. He looks at Yoongi, his mouth opening and closing as he looks for something to say back, but his mind is empty. The older’s smile changes into a smirk as he looks at him.
“I think you’ve got a fever,” Yoongi says, not waiting for a response any longer. “You just got very red.”
If Jimin could teleport, he would use the power right now to get as far away as possible. His face is burning, his heart hammering and it’s definitely not because of a fever. By Yoongi’s tone and smile, he can guess that the Grim Reaper knows it as well. It’s both amazing and scary, that he is standing in front of him, flirting. If only he wasn’t frozen in the spot when he should be responding.
The more Yoongi looks at him the more Jimin is sure they actually like each other and he isn’t having a weird fever dream that will leave him sad.
“Yeah, I have a fever,” Jimin says dumbly, looking straight at Yoongi.
The older laughs quietly, ducking his head with a small shake. “It feels good to be on this side, you know?” He gives Jimin the biggest and cutest gummy smile, making him want to coo. “See you tomorrow.”
Jimin makes a step to leave the kitchen and jumps back as Yoongi just disappears in the air with a small poof .
“Jesus!” He screams, holding onto his heart. “Yesterday he was walking out the door!” He whined, his body still coming down from this mini heart attack.
With a lot of painful groans to accompany him, he starts to unpack what Yoongi had brought him. Outside of more medicine, there is also candy, which he doesn’t feel like eating but will do anyway, and a plastic container of soup.
He opens the lid, trying to sniff what’s inside. The liquid is still warm and he is wondering where around here Yoongi could have bought it. He knows a good restaurant nearby but he doesn’t remember a place where they would serve more home cooked meals, plus the container looks more like one he owns himself than any restaurant packaging.
Jimin puts everything away, but by the time he goes back to his ramen the pasta is soaked with the instant soup. He hates eating it like this. Knowing he can’t waste money for something so simple, he eats the soggy ramen with a pout on his face and goes back to bed with his jug of tea with him.
For the rest of the day, he tries his best to sleep through the day and think of the memories of Yoongi flirting with him openly. He ends up whining and groaning while turning from time to time, trying to watch a show on his phone. With every hour he feels worse, his muscles giving him such a hard time he wants to cry, but his headache stops him from making things worse with tears.
Still, even in so much pain, he finds time at 3 AM to get an outfit ready so he can look better in front of Yoongi. He tries to pick something warm and comfortable that won’t scream that he tried but looks good enough to make him appear less dead.
From the second he came back from hairdresser yesterday, Yoongi keeps changing his mind on what outfit he should wear today. It’s a very important matter to him right now, he needs to look good. He left his pride a long time ago and started doing everything he can to look good, even if Namjoon and Jin have a great time teasing him about Jimin.
In the beginning he was doing everything he could to hide his feelings from his friends, never speaking to Jimin when Jin was around and never putting on makeup if Namjoon could see him. With time he realized it’s completely useless. Since then he barges into Namjoon’s room at 7 AM so he can help him pick eyeshadows that look the best with his outfit. He wanted to be part of it, so now he will be.
He finally decides on a black turtleneck that makes his skin look softer and his black, fluffy hair even shinier. Picking the most matching black jeans is a real challenge but he finally finds the ones that look the best and adds a black coat on top, just to look more put together.
Yoongi is on his way out when Namjoon leaves his room, looking with a critical eye at his outfit. “Something is missing.”
With that, he grabs Yoongi’s attention, who looks in the mirror hanging in the corridor and yes, something is missing.
“Should I put a hat on?”
Namjoon shakes his head, brows furrowed as he scans Yoongi again. “Maybe some glasses? You look good in the ones with black frames.”
With the final touch that really helped the outfit and made him look more like an art professor, he is out to see Jimin. That is, he is out to work. He is excited to see Jimin’s expression as he walks into the office. The younger is trying his best not to show interest but he is doing a rather bad job at it. Yoongi loves to see his reactions, it bursts the his confidence and it’s a little payback for all of the flirting Jimin drags him though.
The excitement is short-lived when he walks in the office and the desk right in front of him is empty. He stands three steps from it, his black folder in hands and just looks at the clean surface he got so used to seeing full of Jimin’s papers.
“Jimin is sick,” his hyung says in a flat tone, looking at Yoongi’s frozen figure unimpressed. He lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding, making Jin roll his eyes. “What did you think? That I fired your boyfriend?”
“He's not my boyfriend!” Yoongi hisses at him, looking behind him, scared to see Jimin walk in on them talking about it.
Jin waves him over. “He’s sick, I’ll do the work and you go be sad somewhere else.”
“How sick?” Yoongi asks, walking up to Jin.
“When he came in here today I thought one of the dead bodies woke up,” Jin jokes, laughing at his own joke.
“He came to work?” He tries to sound normal but the glance he receives tells him that he failed.
Jin folds his arms on his chest with a grin. “Visit him, cook him some soup-”
Yoongi bugs in. “That’s creepy!”
He just shrugs at that. “Tell him I sent you or something.”
This proposition sounds good to Yoongi. He wants to take care of Jimin and check on him, just to make sure he doesn’t need help. Also, this outfit can’t go to waste. He could cook for the younger something that could help him survive this hard time.
“Okay, I’ll pick up the papers tomorrow.” He says already on his way to the door.
“This confident? I heard that orgasms help with blocked noses bu-”
Yoongi gasps, turning around. “Not like that!”
He throws his laughing hyung a middle finger and walks out as fast as he can, feeling his face start to heat up. He can hear Jin’s windshield laughter even after he teleports back home.
Yoongi spends most of the day cooking and tasting and cooking some more. Although he doesn’t need food to survive he likes to eat tasty food and since he has access to Earth’s resources he has learnt a lot about cooking and eating culture. It’s one thing to learn about human food in classes where a teacher is just clicking through PowerPoint presentation just to get it done and something else to experience it.
There is a lot of human things he found boring and weird when he was reading about it in textbooks that he fell in love with later in his life. Earth culture is different and even if the shock culture can be hard to swallow sometimes he falls in love with it more and more every day. Lately, he added fondness to one human to the long list of reasons why he loves being on Earth.
One thing he isn’t sure about is if he should ask Jin about Jimin’s address or should he just teleport there. He doesn’t know how it works, he never cares because as long it works, it works, but if he wants to teleport to a place he just needs to think about it. Since in Hell they don’t have addresses, getting lost is very easy if you don’t have the ability to just appear in places you need to be in. He decides to ask Jin and make a trip to a grocery store on his way to Jimin’s place.
Yoongi packs the soup after it cools down a little bit and teleports into a dead end alley to buy Jimin snacks. Before he decides what cookies the younger might like he gets a text from Jin with an address. He is in a completely different part of the city but he will get it fixed with a snap of fingers. It takes him way too long to guess what candy Jimin might like but he finally makes some decisions and leaves the store with a full bag.
He teleports right in front of Jimin’s apartment door, not feeling like walking anymore. He knocks on the door and as he does it he feels all of his confidence evaporate. Panicked, he teleports himself back home, leaving the bag in front of the door. Yoongi stands still in the middle of his living room when he realizes how dumb he is behaving, so he teleports back.
Right in front of Jimin’s mortified face.
The following days were a nightmare with a glimpse of light in the form of Yoongi. Jimin feels really spoiled with all the attention and delicious food he gets delivered to his apartment. Within days Yoongi starts to feel less awkward in the new space, tucking him into bed and staying for longer.
They talk a lot, with Jimin in bed and Yoongi sitting in an old armchair. It’s nice to take his mind off the sickness for some time but his space feels empty once Yoongi has to literally disappear from his apartment. They never really got time to meet each other before, the office not being a good spot since they are at work, even if Jin is an amazing boss.
Yoongi takes care of him not only physically but mentally. Never before had Jimin realized how lonely he gets sometimes but now he feels like he’s got Yoongi. The older also opens up about himself. He laughs louder and flirts a lot, making Jimin sweat even without the fever.
The older coming over also gives Jimin a good reason to get up from bed, take a shower and clean up the apartment instead of laying in bed most of the time, feeling uncomfortable and sore. Basically, Yoongi being there is very good for him.
Still, Jimin gets antsy not being at work, with too much spare time on his hands. He keeps thinking about all the extra work his hyung has to do now that he is sick. There is so much work daily and even if Jin has more experience, he is still a human. He sends his manager a couple of texts daily, just to make sure he is handling it alright. Just in case Jin would like for him to come back to work immediately.
By Saturday Jimin feels good, he wakes up feeling fresh, finally able to breathe through his nose. It makes him feel motivated to do something with himself, to go places and see people. Happily, it’s a warm day outside for early spring, so he goes to take a quick shower and pick something to wear and wait for Yoongi. Because he already knows that Yoongi will come around today to hang out, they might as well go out together.
Yoongi knocks on his door at 11 AM sharp, just like he said he would. Jimin runs to open the door while pulling on a black fluffy sweater, blue jeans already on.
“Hi.” He smiles at the older, moving from the way so he can enter. “How are you?”
As always, Yoongi’s outfit doesn’t disappoint. The black pants fit him perfectly and a matching black shirt giving his baby blue coat a nice contrast. He walks in confidently, carrying a bag in one hand, his phone in the other.
“How are you feeling?” He asks, ignoring Jimin’s question.
“Good,” he answers, his eyes wandering to Yoongi’s perky behind, unable to stop himself. God, those pants are perfect. “I want to go for a walk, I feel like a prisoner.”
The Grim Reaper walks into the apartment. “Okay, but only after you eat.”
“Do you want to go with me?” He asks, excited, already taking the soup out of the bag,
The food Yoongi brings is really the best food he has ever had, he can’t stop thinking about it even when he barely could taste things from his sickness. So eating won’t be a problem for him.
“Yeah, I don’t mind,” Yoongi says lazily.
Jimin takes out two bowls, pouring soup into them. “Is walking comfortable for you?”
Yoongi looks up from his phone with an unimpressed gaze. “I told you many times that I can walk just fine. You saw me walking into the office and walking out. Especially walking out,” he says, pointing a finger at Jimin and squinting.
“Am I being accused?” Jimin says innocently, smiling sweetly.
The older laughs quietly. “Maybe I don’t mind you looking.”
He turns around, putting the bowls into the microwave, trying to stop a smile by biting his bottom lip. During his sleepless fevered nights, Jimin figured that he should ask Yoongi out soon since the pining is just painfully obvious and even he isn’t dense enough to not to catch up. He just hopes Yoongi is aware of what he is doing and is not just bickering with him.
For the whole one and a half minute of the soup spinning in the microwave, he can feel Yoongi’s eyes on his back, but he can’t get himself to turn around. Sometimes he gets overwhelmed with the happiness of having the other man around. He has never felt this towards anyone, there are moments when he needs a little bit of time to just breathe.
They eat in silence, Yoongi keeping his victorious smile on the whole time. He always looks so proud of himself when he manages to make Jimin shy. But after all, he has been doing it to the older man for months, making him almost run out of the office. So it seems only fair that the Grim Reaper gets his revenge.
“Let's go get some sunlight,” Jimin sing-songs, putting their dishes in the sink after they both finish.
Yoongi gets up to put on his shoes while Jimin goes to unplug his phone from the charger. “Do you have any place you want to go to?” The older asks loudly so Jimin can hear him.
“No, let’s just wander around,” he responds, exiting into the corridor to put on his own shoes. “Why? Wanted to disappear on me and wait at the destination?”
The older laughs, leaning against the wall. “That's a good idea.”
“Don’t you dare! It’s scary,” he whines, opening the door and letting Yoongi leave first just to have another glance.
Yoongi throws him a knowing look but doesn't comment. “It’s funny.”
They walk around the neighborhood, walking into a small park which is just a couple benches, some grass, and young trees, ready to bloom. There is a lot of people walking around, chatting and laughing. The air is calm and even if they don’t talk nonstop, it feels right to be here together.
“You know,” Yoongi says after a couple of minutes of them walking mindlessly. “I keep having this nagging thought that we had met before.”
“That’s because we did,” Jimin answers simply, a small smile on his lips.
Yoongi stops in his tracks, staying behind. “I knew it!” He almost screams, catching up to Jimin. “I knew it!”
They walk in silence for a while again. Jimin can feel Yoongi’s eyes on him, surely expecting more information on their first meeting.
“When?” He asks finally.
Jimin smirks, looking ahead of himself. “When what?”
Yoongi groans, making Jimin smile. “When did we meet?”
He finally looks at Yoongi, waiting for his reaction. “Couple years ago, nothing special. You helped me when I fell down on the street.”
The older gawks at him. “I wasn’t a dick to you, right?”
“No.” Jimin shakes his head in objection. “You were extremely nice to me.”
The older furrows his brows, looking at Jimin. “I don't remember.”
“Good,” he laughs. “It was embarrassing and I was definitely uglier.”
Yoongi pushes him playfully. “I guess you had to walk by the second time.”
Jimin gasps, slapping Yoongi’s hand away. “Hyung!”
The older laughs loudly, trying to avoid Jimin’s next punch. “I think you have a fever!” He teases, pretending to run away from Jimin.
“I got sunburnt!” Jimin screams, running after Yoongi.
“There is barely any sun!” Yoongi argues with him.
“Got you,” he says into Yoongi’s ear, jumping onto his back.
“Jimin, get off!” Yoongi whines, making Jimin laughs, clinging onto the older. “I might be immortal but I haven’t seen the gym once in my life!”
It makes Jimin laugh more and he almost falls from Yoongi if not for the elder catching his legs, too focused on laughing. “Don’t break your ass brat,” he grumps playfully, slowly dropping Jimin onto the ground.
It takes Jimin a long time to finally calm down but he can’t help it, Yoongi is just too funny. Whenever he feels like he is done laughing, he looks up to see the older standing above him with an unimpressed expression and he goes back to rolling around.
Yoongi ends up joining him on the grass, plucking longer stalks while Jimin stays lying down. It’s a calm moment. The Grim Reaper is busy observing plants and he is busy looking at Yoongi. The elder’s hair is tossed around by a light wind from time to time, his face looks even rounder than usual and Jimin really likes it. He enjoys seeing him like this, calm and healthy.
“Is this why you reacted to me weirdly when you first saw me?” He looks at Yoongi. “Because you had a feeling we met?”
The older nods with a pout, avoiding eye contact. “It made me uneasy. I was scared that I was rude or I embarrassed myself the first time we’d met.”
Jimin hums, nodding slowly. That would make sense even if it was a dramatic reaction for just an uneasy feeling. He understands, especially since he’s grown to like this sweet man who just has a habit of overreacting sometimes.
They fall back into a comfortable silence, enjoying the sun and the fresh air.
“Yoongi hyung?” He says quietly. Trying not to disturb the world around them, the older gives him a small hum of acknowledgment. “Do you think you could be living on earth?”
The older takes his time to answer, pouting while nodding his head. “Yeah, I could.”
“Would you stop being the way you are?” He feels anxious, he normally asks Yoongi a lot of stupid questions, and they’ve never really talked about things like this.
“It depends,” Yoongi says, glancing at Jimin. “I can live here and still be immortal if I kept my job and went back to Hell regularly.”
Jimin looks at him intensively, trying to find an answer for the question he really wants the answer for.
“But if I would want to have a full life here, I would have to drop it,” he says after a long moment of silence. Jimin had thought that he wasn’t going to say anymore. “For example, if I wanted to be with somebody.” He glances at Jimin quickly. “I wouldn’t have to drop everything as long as it wouldn’t be a marriage.”
That makes sense, there is no need to throw everything away for a relationship if you don’t make it legal. He read a lot about people who were with Grim Reapers but never really made more of it.
“But personally, if I wanted to be with somebody I want it to be real, you know? I don’t want to see them get older without me.” Yoongi continues, plucking the grass a little faster. “That would suck.”
“Why? You really would leave living forever for a couple years of mortal life?” Jimin asks, unable to stop himself.
“I would have my forever with that person,” he says quickly. “Wouldn’t I?”
“Forever?” Jimin asks confused.
The Grim Reaper nods, smiling. “Yeah, life with somebody you love is something else. You see, you can have a forever in a matter of a never-ending life.” Jimin nods. “But when your life is limited you also have your forever, just smaller.”
Jimin isn’t sure if he understands, but he is really trying to catch up with Yoongi.
“When that life ends, you won’t know it ended, you won’t know there was time anyway. But you spent your time on Earth happy, living your small forever,” he says, smiling at Jimin.
“Would you?” Jimin asks, biting his bottom lip.
Yoongi furrows his brows. “Would I what?”
He gulps nervously, impatient to know the answer to his question. “Would you leave the bigger forever for the smaller one?”
“Of course, it’s not about how much time we have together but that we are together,” he answers, laying next to Jimin.
Jimin’s heart picks up, and even if he really wanted to tear his eyes away from Yoongi’s, he can’t. There is hope blooming inside his chest, hope that he could be his forever.
To say that Jimin is excited to be back at work is an understatement. It was nice to lay around and talk with Yoongi for hours but he wants to feel like he isn’t wasting his days away. He was expecting the office to look like a war zone and his desk to be drowning under papers but everything looks just the way he left it.
“Good morning,” he says, getting a small nod in response.
It takes him a moment to get back on track, to find his rhythm again. His neck gets stiff quickly, which is probably the aftermath of not moving too much for a week. He spends most of the day annoying his manager by constantly moving around to make his muscles relax.
The moving also has a second reason. The very moment Jimin sat behind his desk in the morning he kept looking at the door, impatient to see Yoongi again. They text a lot, and after their walk, he can feel their relationship shift in the right direction. He knows they can’t really do much outside of small talk since the Grim Reaper was honest with him about not wanting to talk with Jin in the room.
Jimin finds it cute, how Yoongi shys away. Though to be honest, he finds everything about Yoongi either hot or cute. Mostly both.
He feels a little frustrated thinking about their situation. In some ways, everything is out on the table, but at the same time nobody has said anything loud and clear. They are dancing around each other. Jimin doesn’t want to push Yoongi if he needs to figure out things within himself. He wants to take this thing seriously and sometimes it means not jumping into their feelings head first.
Judging by the way his heart is beating and how Yoongi is constantly appearing in his dreams, cuddling with him, he has unfortunately already jumped in. It’s a scary thought even if he has been aware of his feelings for a while. The older could decide at any time that Jimin isn’t his forever, leaving his hopeful heart completely shattered. He knows Yoongi would never do that on purpose, but he wouldn’t be able to blame the elder for making that decision.
The Grim Reaper shows up, finally, making the weight on Jimin’s shoulders disappear. He really missed the man, not even fully realizing what this tension inside him was. It was longing, longing to see Yoongi again even if they saw each other yesterday. It doesn’t matter if they are constantly in touch, it’s not the same as to see the older in person.
“Hi!” Jimin smiles as he walks in.
Yoongi reciprocates his smile, nodding shyly. “Hi.”
Yoongi stands in front of his desk, folder in one hand as he draws with his fingers on the edge of the surface. “How are you?”
The other’s shy actions instantly make Jimin duck his head, blushing furiously. “I’m good, and you?”
“Just happy to see you,” Yoongi murmurs.
They both peak at each other at the same time, giggling as their eyes meet. Jimin loves when Yoongi is flirty and cocky at the same time, he loves seeing the elder smile shyly. He might not even have a favorite amongst Yoongi’s mood, Jimin is just completely whipped for him.
Yoongi’s eyes break away from his, quickly glancing to the side, immediately going wider. “Uh, here, here are the documents. Please, don’t work too hard,” he stutters as his faces become more and more red.
Jimin nods with furrowed brows, pouting at the end of their little moment as Yoongi lays the folder in front of him. “Okay.
“I- I’ll see you soon, bye.”
He looks dumbfounded as Yoongi leaves the office in a rush. He really doesn’t understand what just happened but then he hears the iconic laugher right next to him. Jimin looks slowly to the side, mortified to find Jin sitting at his desk.
“Oh my God,” he whispers, hiding his face in hands. “I forgot you were here.”
Jin laughs louder, hitting his desk with a palm repeatedly. “Jimin!” He keeps laughing, making the younger whine in embarrassment.
“Ah!” His manager says, when he finally calms down. “That bad?”
Jimin groans, hitting his forehead on the desk lightly. “Yes.”
Jin hums. “Beginning of dating, so cute.”
“No!” Jimin rushes to correct, “No, no! We aren’t together or dating! I just like him.”
Jin scrunches his whole face, squinting at him. “I just like him?” He mocks Jimin. “He likes you too.”
“I know?” He answers. “But he doesn’t do anything about it.”
His manager sighs loudly before getting comfortable, turning to face Jimin fully. “And you?”
“I’m giving him time to decide if he wants something with me?” He answers weakly.
He waits, nervously biting his bottom lip as Jin looks around the room. He needs a piece of advice and there is no better person than his hyung, since he already knows Yoongi. As much as he loves what they’ve got, the pining is annoying. All he can think about is holding Yoongi’s hand and kissing him in his doorway after a date, but he can’t.
It’s so frustrating to have all the cards on the table and yet have nothing. He likes Yoongi and Yoongi likes him but he’s never told him that. So now Jimin keeps switching from being sure the older likes him back to fearing that he is imagining things.
“I don’t think he needs time, you know?” Jin tells him finally, “I think he is waiting for you to decide if you want him.”
“Of course I want him,” Jimin whines, frustrated, “I don’t want anyone else.”
“But he doesn’t know that, does he?” Jin looks at him, one eyebrow raised. Jimin shakes his head as a way of saying no. “So I thought. Did he tell you about what being with you would mean in the long run?”
He shrugs. “Kind of? He told me about how he would have to choose between being immortal and becoming human.”
“And?”
Jimin starts doodling on a piece of paper to take his eyes away from Jin’s, who seems able to look straight into his soul. “He said that with the right person he wouldn’t mind giving up his life.”
“Namjoon told me something similar, he still talks very vaguely about those things but I know he means me. It’s a very intimate subject to touch on with somebody. They don’t talk about it with friends.”
When Jin gets no response, he continues. “Yoongi let you know that he is up for it and now it’s your time to decide if you want that.”
Jimin looks up, unsure if he should believe Jin’s words. “What about after he becomes human? What if he starts to hate me?”
Jin nods slowly. “A good question. He can work in an embassy or he can be a culture teacher. Namjoon is looking for a good teaching job,” He smiles at Jimin. “And maybe Hell doesn’t teach them how to say to somebody that they like them without some weird code, but they are very calculative in their decisions.”
Jimin nods, absorbing all the information. “Yoongi would be a hot professor,” he blurts out, trying to take his mind off the subject for a second.
His hyung laughs, pointing a finger at Jimin. “Not as hot as Namjoon,” They both laugh for a moment. “He won’t hate you, no matter what. He knows what he is doing.”
The conversation with Jin makes him feel better about the subject, more sure about his decision. He wants to be with Yoongi and if that’s what the older wants as well, they need to stop all of the pining and just be together.
Once Jimin made his decision to talk to Yoongi, he made sure that they’ll be able to meet up before he runs out of his newfound determination. The older agreed to meet the same evening at Jimin’s apartment.
Waiting is worse, even if he knows Yoongi will come around exactly at the time he said he will, Jimin still feels anxious. He didn’t say to Yoongi “We have to talk”, so the older is probably expecting just a small hang out and maybe a movie. He really hopes Jin is right and he won’t end up with a broken heart, completely embarrassed.
Thankfully he doesn’t have a lot of time to overthink as he hears knocking on the door. “I’m coming!”
On the other side is a waiting Yoongi with his gummy smile. But who else could it be. Jimin made sure that nobody would think about randomly visiting him today. He won’t let the universe get in his way, not today.
Yoongi always brings him snacks and Jimin enjoys it, it makes him feel spoiled. The older always watches what Jimin likes the most and buys it every time. Not wanting to feel like he is just taking, Jimin started making trips to the store as well. So now they always end up with a pile of unhealthy food as they watch a movie.
Today is not different and it makes Jimin calmer somehow, the fact that nothing has changed. They are watching all the Marvel movies from the beginning since Yoongi has never seen then. Jimin tries not to blame him for that.
For most of the movie, Jimin keeps glancing at the empty space between them, and Yoongi’s arm draped over the back of the couch. He really wants to move those couple centimeters so they can cuddle. The empty spot is annoying him, reminding him why he invited Yoongi over in the first place.
The older seems to enjoy the movie, making a couple of small comments here and there, laughing at the funny bits and munching on some chips. So Jimin keeps his confession for later, not wanting to disturb him. Usually, Jimin would say he is extremely patient but this movie just keeps on going, it’s ridiculous
“Yoongi,” he says once the post credits start rolling.
Yoongi raises his hand, eyes glued to the screen. “Wait, the last scene.”
If Jimin wasn’t so impatient to finally tell Yoongi how he feels he would find this cute. He waits through the credits since Yoongi doesn’t like to skip through credits, he always says credits are important. Then there’s the last scene. Finally, the movie ends, making Yoongi gasp. Cute.
“Can I speak now?” Jimin says, moving around to face Yoongi.
The older nods, sipping on his drink. “Yeah.”
“I want to talk about something.”
Yoongi stops sipping, liquid stuck in the straw as he looks attentively over Jimin’s face. Whatever he read from it makes him put down the cup and sit straight, giving Jimin a wave of his hand to continue.
“I really want to talk about something that’s been on my mind for a while,” he starts, looking at Yoongi’s reaction. So far it seems okay. “I’m really happy that we started to get so close.”
Yoongi smiles at him, nodding in agreement.
The easy part of what he wants to say is over, now it’s time to drop the bomb. “You see, I had a talk with Jin hyung.”
When Yoongi hears that his face drops as his eyes grow wide, and he stands up slowly. “What did he say?”
Jimin stands up so he doesn’t have to look up at Yoongi. “Nothing bad, really,” he assures the older, “He just gave me some advice.”
“Advice?” Yoongi asks, scratching his neck.
“I- Okay. Yoongi I’m really tired of this weird situation.” Yoongi looks at him mortified, Jimin isn’t even sure if he is breathing. “I want us to move forward instead of circling around each other if you want that.”
“What do you mean by that?” Yoongi asks slowly, looking a little lost.
With a deep breath in, Jimin keeps going, “I hope I didn’t read anything wrong because I like you and I just thought you might like me-”
Poof!
Jimin looks up with an open mouth ahead of himself, at a wall that was just a second ago blocked from his view by Yoongi. His face falls and he can’t stop the wobble of his bottom lip. He inhales sharply, harrumphing his throat that starts to tighten up as his eyes start to water.
Poof!
Jimin wheezes in a breath, getting scared when Yoongi suddenly appears right where he was just a moment ago with a high pitched scream. “You like me?!”
It takes Yoongi a second to register Jimin’s shiny eyes. “Why are you crying?” He asks, concerned, taking a step closer, “Jimin, what happened?”
“I just told you that I like you and you just disappeared.” Jimin tries his best not to sound like he is stopping himself from crying. He does a really bad job when his voice breaks in the middle of the sentence.
Yoongi cups Jimin’s face in his large hands. “Oh, no, no! Jiminie don’t cry! Hyung’s here!” He rushes to say, caressing his thumbs on Jimin’s cheeks.
Jimin nods, swallowing visibly. Yoongi is here, it’s all fine.
“I’m so sorry. I panicked,” Yoongi whispers, looking into Jimin’s eyes.
“Why?” Jimin tries his best to blink his tears away, knowing that he must look like an idiot.
“Because you like me,” Yoongi says, in a tone that suggests his excuse is a good one.
They look at each other in silence. Yoongi’s eyes are so pretty and look at Jimin is such a tender way, it makes his heart beat faster. His hands feel so good and soft on Jimin’s face. The touch is so delicate he isn’t sure if Yoongi is really touching him or if he is just imagining things.
“Is it bad that I like you?” He asks, scared to know the answer. The answer he was so sure about just ten minutes ago.
Yoongi huffs, smiling at Jimin. “Stupid, that’s the best thing that could happen to me.”
Suddenly, there are new tears in Jimin’s eyes. He wasn’t expecting to cry but here he is, close to crying for two separate reasons in the matter of a minute.
Just when he thought it couldn't get more emotional, Yoongi hugs him tight, rocking him to the side. “You are so cute,” the older says with a smile.
“Stop it or I’ll cry even more,” Jimin mumbles against the fabric of Yoongi’s shirt, hugging him back.
When Jimin calms down and the reality finally hits him, he wraps his arms around Yoongi tighter with a big smile. “You like me,” he sing-songs.
Yoongi laughs. “You like me too.”
It feels like some kind of a curse was finally broken and Jimin can breathe fully. His whole body feels euphoric in Yoongi’s embrace. This is all he wanted and it’s now a reality.
“So, are we now a thing?” Jimin asks, taking a step back.
His question makes Yoongi blush. “Will you be my boyfriend, Jiminie?”
Now it’s the younger’s turn to blush as he nods, a small squeal escaping his lips. “Yes!”
They continue to watch movies, playing the next one in the long line. At first, Jimin sits back on his place, leaving Yoongi his space.
The older just throws him one look and says with a smirk. “Don’t you wanna cuddle your boyfriend?”
He does so even if he feels embarrassed and a little uneasy in the new situation, moving closer. Yoongi moves his hand from the back of the couch to Jimin’s shoulder, pulling him closer.
Jimin gapes at him. “You smooth-”
“Sh, the movie,” he answers, not letting Jimin finish.
Quickly Jimin finds a comfortable position, laying his head on Yoongi’s shoulder. He knows the movie well, it’s one of his favorites, so busies himself with playing with Yoongi’s long, bony fingers. The older doesn’t seem to mind, leaving his palm limp so Jimin can do whatever he wants with it.
When this bores him, he reaches for a pack of gummy bears. Yoongi pats his shoulder, bringing Jimin’s attention to him. Without a word he opens his mouth and even if he has a free hand and could eat himself, Jimin feeds him.
It’s weird how fast they’ve gotten like this, but they were walking around each other for so long, building trust and making each other comfortable that maybe it shouldn’t be so weird. They were both longing for it so why would they stop something that feels natural?
In the middle of the movie, Jimin finds himself laying down with his head on Yoongi’s lap as the elder mindlessly plays with his hair. All his worries are left behind as he shamelessly stares at his boyfriend.
Still, Jimin is too shy to do more than to hug Yoongi goodbye. He is a little disappointed that the older didn’t kiss him, but they’ve got time.
The next day Jimin goes to work more excited than ever. He just wants to share the news with his hyung so they can be happy together.
“Jin hyung!” He screams, a big smile plastered on his face when he walks into the office. “Guess what!”
Jimin feels the need to jump around and clap his hands. His manager looks up from his mug and slowly puts it down.
“Guess what?” He asks like a tired parent.
Jimin spins his way to Jin’s desk, sitting on top of it and ignoring the older’s disagreement. “I have a boyfriend,” he says with a smile, looking at Jin over his shoulder.
Jin’s mouth drops open. “A boyfriend?” he repeats.
Jimin giggles, hugging himself. “A cutie in all black,” he says in a dreamy voice.
“Who?” Jin asks confused.
“Stop teasing,” Jimin warns him, getting off his desk and moving to sit on his chair. “I’m Yoongi’s boyfriend.”
They fall into their routine with Jin’s loud sipping and Jimin whispering all the love songs he has ever heard.
Just when he is about to start filling in the first paper, Jin speaks up again, getting up to go wash his mug. “He was so good that you keep smiling?”
Jimin’s mouth opens wide as he watches his manager leave the room, throwing finger gun at Jimin’s direction. Why is Jin always making things sexual? Jimin is trying his best to be a nice, good boy and not think about kissing Yoongi and undressing him, because that will come with time. But here he sits in a small room, with Satan himself.
When Jin comes back Jimin stands up. “Nothing happened.”
Jin looks at him from up and down, “Okay, if that helps you sleep.”
“Hyung! We just hugged!” He whines.
“Is he a good kisser at least?” Jin asks, eyes glued to his computer screen as he types.
Jimin throws him an angry glare, that Jin doesn’t see. “Hyung!”
His manager stops typing, looking at Jimin with a serious expression. “He didn’t kiss you, did he?”
“We will kiss when the time is right,” he answers, opening an empty Word document and typing mindlessly just to avoid eye contact.
Jin laughs, “Bet he cried himself to sleep. Ah, no kiss from his baby Jiminie.”
“He doesn’t call me that,” Jimin argues as butterflies attack his stomach.
“You sure wish he would.”
Of course, Jimin wishes Yoongi would call him something else but his name. He is sure they will soon have cute names for each other. Maybe, just maybe, his boyfriend will let him call him Yoonie. It’s a nickname he gave to him when he was telling Taehyung how cute the older is. It suits him, it really does.
Later that day when Yoongi comes around Jimin gets extremely flustered. He can’t help it, Yoongi is just so cute and handsome. It’s too much for his poor heart. Jin watching their whole interaction didn’t make it better.
“You look cute,” he coos at them both.
Yoongi ignores him, smiling at Jimin like an idiot. “Wanna go out somewhere tonight?”
“Yes,” Jimin responds, with a huge smile.
“Okay,” Jin says, clapping his hands, “So that’s planned now let’s cut this out before you fuck on my desk.”
“Hyung!” They both scream at him at the same time.
Jimin and Yoongi meet daily and there is no reason why they shouldn’t meet. Even if a day is a living nightmare and Jimin wants nothing more than to sleep, he sees Yoongi. He just can’t fall asleep without them having a normal conversation outside of work and not on the phone. It’s been just a week, but he really feels that he found what he was looking for all along.
Taehyung is very supportive. Jimin was scared that he would disapprove, because looking at his best friend’s past statements he wasn’t especially fond of relationships like theirs. But no, he is really happy for Jimin and he’s already met Yoongi.
They have already planned a double date since Taehyung is finally happy with somebody. They spend a lot of time talking about Jungkook and what makes him different from all of the other guys that he just couldn’t trust for some reason.
Since Yoongi has met Jimin’s best friend he is talking a lot about his own best friend. Jimin is on cloud nine whenever his boyfriend opens up about some part of his life and just starts talking about something without Jimin asking him. It makes him feel warm inside and he loves to see Yoongi’s sweet smile when he tells him about time in school. There are moments when they are sitting across from each other, talking and one of them just freezes with culture shock but that’s okay. Nobody can fully grasp another culture if they weren’t raised there.
Jimin actually meets Jin outside of work for the first time. He never thought about the fact that his manager is dating his boyfriend’s best friend. Life is wild but everything seems to start connecting itself. Now the tables have turned and it’s Jimin who constantly talks about his boyfriend, when his manager just makes small noises, letting him know that he is listening.
So to put it shortly, it’s been the best week of his life. Still, Jimin wants something that Yoongi doesn’t seem to want as well. A kiss.
They cuddle a lot and hold hands but nothing else. Jimin could go with Taehyung’s advice and ask the older if he isn’t into things like that but, to be honest, he feels awkward. Yoongi seems to open up to him on his own accord so why would he try to pull something out of him? It’s an important part of a relationship and he should know if he makes Yoongi uncomfortable.
It’s not that Jimin isn't enjoying what they have. No, not at all. He loves to cuddle up to Yoongi and hug him while he cooks for him and he loves how his hand fits into his boyfriend’s. But he also wants to know if they both want the same thing.
He snaps out of his thoughts when Yoongi waves his hand in front of his face. He looks up from the blank TV screen to see his boyfriend's concerned face. They are in Jimin’s living room, watching a movie.
“Baby, are you okay?” Yoongi asks, putting his hand on Jimin’s cheek.
“Sorry, I zoned out.”
He moves onto his back so he doesn’t have to strain his neck. Yoongi’s thighs are his favorite cushion now and whenever they are sitting on the couch he ends up in the same position.
“I don’t think you saw any of the movie,” he says, bopping Jimin’s nose.
Jimin sighs deeply, “You’re right.”
“What’s on your mind?”
Yoongi starts brushing his fingers through Jimin’s hair, giving him a soft smile and lowering his head a little. For a second Jimin thinks something will happen but no, Yoongi just looks at him. “I can see something is really bothering you.”
He whines frustratedly, kicking his legs on the sofa when Yoongi moves away, making the older laugh. “What’s this tantrum?”
Jimin pouts at him, trying to get the courage to ask about it. He already did so many steps to make this relationship and now he is afraid to ask about kissing.
“Yoonie!” He whines, pouting at the older. “Yoonie.”
His boyfriend looks at him, raising one eyebrow. “I’m listening.”
Jimin rolls his eyes, pouting hard. “Yoonie.”
The frustration is boiling inside him but he can’t seem to get himself to finally ask the question.
Yoongi ruffles his hair. “Is something hurting my little baby?”
Jimin laughs but still whines. “Maybe.”
“Do you want me to kiss it better?” There is a hint of teasing in there, but still, he will take the bait and try to go with it.
He points at his lips, pouting harder.
“You want a kiss here?” Yoongi asks calmly, putting his finger on top of Jimin’s.
He nods, not really trusting himself to respond verbally. He can feel that the air around them has changed.
“Like a kiss?” Yoongi keeps teasing, his voice dropping lower.
Jimin nods again.
Yoongi smiles at him, showing his gums. “What about some tongue?”
When Jimin’s eyes grow wider the elder starts laughing, completely ruining the moment. He feels a little sad that Yoongi finds it funny but maybe that’s enough for him to know that there might not be any kissing.
“Baby, if you want a kiss just tell me,” Yoongi teases, laying a hand on Jimin’s hip and squeezing it lightly.
Jimin sits up, frowning, “How would I know if you want to kiss me?”
“Hm,” Yoongi pulls Jimin closer, “Maybe because I keep looking at you like an idiot all days or maybe because I’m completely whipped for you-”
Jimin rolls his eyes. “You never tried to kiss me.”
“I thought you would make a move when you decided you wanted to kiss me,” Yoongi says, getting straight to the point. “We need to communicate more, right?”
He hugs Jimin and Jimin hugs back instantly, basking in the warmth of his boyfriend’s body. “I guess.”
“Now give me my kiss,” Yoongi whispers into Jimin’s hair, placing a soft kiss there.
“More like you give me mine.”
They pull away from each other, Jimin settling into a more comfortable position and giving Yoongi a smirk. The Grim Reaper instantly gets into Jimin’s space, leaving barely any space between them. Jimin closes his eyes and waits. He is about to ask Yoongi what is taking him so long when he feels warm lips against his. Jimin’s hands automatically go to delicately hold Yoongi’s soft cheeks.
The touch disappears as fast as it appeared, making Jimin hungry for more. He moves closer, leaving a kiss on Yoongi's lips as soft as the one he got. They keep giving each other small kisses, smiling and giggling.
Finally, Yoongi pulls away. Jimin opens his eyes to see his boyfriend smiling at him, a soft blush on his cheeks, “Hi.”
Yoongi laughs, “Hi there.”
“That felt nice,” Jimin says, getting comfortable on the couch, leaning on the armrest.
“I can do better.”
He waves Yoongi over, no longer feeling like it’s something his boyfriend doesn’t want. They just need to stop acting like teenagers and actually tell each other what they want. “Show me.”
Without any hesitance, Yoongi comes closer, almost hovering over Jimin. He scoots higher, Yoongi sitting on his shins between his legs. He puts his arms around Yoongi’s neck, pulling him in with a smile.
They end up making out for an hour, rolling around the couch, changing positions but not really doing much more. Jimin feels content just by making out even if his jaw hurts after it. Yoongi definitely can kiss.
Yoongi ends up coming back multiple times to get “his last kiss” and Jimin isn’t mad about it. Especially since he no longer waits in front of the door. He told Yoongi to just appear inside so they can see each other sooner and now it comes in really handy.
When Jimin thinks Yoongi won’t be back anymore he goes to bed, smiling to himself, constantly touching his lips. Before he can turn off his lamp, Yoongi appears next to his bed with wet hair and pajama set.
“Just the last one.”
Jimin giggles, kneeling on his bed so they can meet halfway. “Silly hyung.”
The last six months were hands down the best time in Yoongi’s life. Being with Jimin is a dream come true and even if the thought of becoming human was there from the beginning it’s lately become even louder. He thinks about it constantly, especially when he leaves Jimin’s for the night.
Yoongi sleeps over a lot, since there is no way to take Jimin back to his place with him, and they want to spend time together. It makes him sad that they are always in Jimin’s apartment. He wants Jimin to know his personal space as much as Yoongi knows his.
Whenever they are laying in bed, sweaty and out of breath Yoongi’s mind wanders far into the future, to the times when Jimin’s body will get older and his not. He really wants to get old with Jimin and just as he thought all those months back, he thinks that he’s found the one that he wants to get old with. It’s not some temporary thing, he takes Jimin very seriously and he knows that Jimin does too.
They talk a lot and they always resolve problems together. He knows Jimin’s heart and mind so well by now, and he never wants to lose it.
Jimin’s birthday is coming up, which means that Jimin is getting older and that fuels his thoughts. He sees how Namjoon is happy, they all visited their apartment for a party once and he saw what he wants in his life. With Jimin.
Step by step he starts to take exams and look for a nice apartment. The only thing that matters to him while searching for a nice place is for Jimin to have a shorter way to work, and a nice view so Jimin can enjoy a sunset naked in bed. He still hasn’t told the younger that he is actually taking the steps to move and he probably won’t tell him soon. Now it’s all about Jimin, even if it’s still a couple of days until his birthday.
From all the possibilities he could have on Earth he likes being a history professor the most. It’s something he has enjoyed in school and he has a little bit of practice. Jimin used to ask him a lot of questions about his history since he apparently slept through all of his Hell History classes. Yoongi will be a professor people will want to listen to.
If everything goes right he will be able to move here soon.
Jimin keeps talking about his surprise birthday party that he demanded and planned for himself. Of course, like a whipped man he is, Yoongi goes along with it even if it’s ridiculous. They set up everything one day before and Jimin looks delighted.
The whole apartment is full of helium balloons, making it impossible to walk through the space without being attacked by at least one of them. Yoongi stays for the night so they can go straight into cooking the next day, or so Jimin says.
Not even fifteen minutes after they lay down Yoongi is out of breath as they make out. He isn’t complaining, they can treat it as Jimin’s first gift of the day. Before Yoongi even thinks about undressing his boyfriend, he is already sitting on his crotch with a big, innocent smile on his pretty face.
“It’s my birthday,” Jimin states, looking at the clock on his bedside table.
Yoongi sits up to kiss Jimin again but he dodges him, almost falling off his lap as he starts to laugh.
“Why aren’t you kissing me?” Yoongi asks, confused.
“I want to have sex in the morning.” Jimin says, brushing Yoongi’s hair out of his forehead.
Yoongi rolls his eyes, putting his hands on Jimin’s waist and trying to get him off. It’s hard when Jimin squeezes his legs around Yoongi’s waist with a quirky smile.
“They why are you pressing your ass onto my dick?”
His boyfriend pouts sweetly, hugging him and petting his head. “Because it’s my favorite place.”
The older’s heart picks up rapidly at the flirty tone mixed with the way Jimin presses himself harder onto him. He truly doesn’t believe that there will be a day when he will get used to Jimin switching from cute to flirty to sexy in a matter of seconds.
“I’m laying down,” he warns as he starts lowering his body back onto the mattress, taking Jimin with him.
Jimin giggles into his neck, leaving a couple of feathery kisses on his skin. Jimin’s arms around his neck make laying down not as comfortable as he wishes for it to be, but he will take any discomfort for his boyfriend’s happiness.
“Are we going to sleep like this?” Yoongi asks when he feels the warmth of Jimin’s body starts to lull him to sleep.
Jimin moves around, sliding to lay partly on the bed and drape the duvet over them. “Yes.”
He turns his head, his neck finally free from the slight pain, and meets Jimin’s soft eyes that he can barely see due to a huge smile on his boyfriend’s face. Yoongi feels complete here, in this place with Jimin, with his boyfriend next to him and that beautiful happy smile that he would die for. A wave of affection comes through him from his toes to head, making his chest feel so full and ecstatic.
“I really love you,” he whispers, lost in Jimin’s eyes.
They never spoke about it, about love. They always talk about liking each other and trusting each other but never about love. But it feels so right to say at this moment, to finally put a name to this feeling that has encased him since they first started to get closer.
Jimin’s eyes blow wide for a second just to change back into those beautiful crescent moons that Yoongi loves to admire. His boyfriend starts rubbing his belly, biting his bottom lip to tame the smile.
“I love you,” Jimin says, a little louder than Yoongi.
For Yoongi it’s all that really matters. He loves Jimin just like Jimin loves him. There isn’t a more beautiful sound than Jimin telling him those three words that make his heart combust.
They fall asleep cuddling, with small kisses and hushed confessions shared in the dark.
The next morning Jimin gets what he wanted, gasping from surprise while taking off Yoongi’s boxer shorts. He finds it funny to the point where he gasps for the whole day and night, annoying all his friends.
Yoongi informs him about his plans a week later and when Jimin starts crying, he fears the worst - that Jimin doesn’t want him to move. It turns out to be the complete opposite of this. However, they don’t move in together, both knowing it would be a little too fast even for them.
He often finds life in a human body very hard. Sometimes he wishes he could be able to teleport places, and there are months where he gets extremely homesick. It’s not easy to suddenly have days where you don’t have any energy left and have to learn how to plan his time. He especially hates feeling hungry and getting sick.
Still, even if he feels all of those negative things, never for a second does he regret giving up a meaningless infinity for Jimin. He loves him more with every day, his heart growing bigger and bigger. They have each other and Jimin is with him through all of his hard times with his unconditional love. No matter what’s happening his boyfriend is always next to him.
If Yoongi needs to cry, he can just call Jimin. If he has a bad day at work and has barely any power to walk back to his apartment, Jimin will be waiting to sing to him until he falls asleep. If Yoongi doesn’t understand something, Jimin never judges him no matter how simple it might be.
Giving one thing to get a whole universe for himself was a great deal.
They move in together after two years and just then Yoongi starts seeing his cold, empty apartment as warm home. The fact that his boyfriend is now sharing the place he picked for them makes the place feel full. Jimin’s blankets, books, and food crumbs were the missing puzzle pieces in the place.
There are days where Yoongi feels frustrated, where Jimin is mad and where nothing seems to go well. But those days go by fast, letting them talk out their problems and find a solution. Yoongi knows that with Jimin there is no hardness he can’t overcome.
They get married five years after they got together, on the same exact day and just like those five years ago, Jimin cries. They both cry, tears of pure joy that is too strong to put it with words. All because they are sharing their forever.
