Chapter 1: The Means to an End

Chapter Text

"Since I realized we were never going to get along, and that he was never going to look for me, or even accept me being near him, I was prepared." Izuku says as he reaches for the pill that's on the tray the nurse is holding.

The pill used to cut the red string of fate.

The effects may vary from person to person who takes it. It ranges from light-headedness to possible coma, lasting weeks or months; and although it may sound heavy, right now, this was Izuku's best choice, or at least he thinks it is.

After taking the pill, the best case scenario is that the red string will be cut. Whatever interaction and memory you had with each other may stay, because it will only erase the memories of the fact that you and that individual used to be connected, and everyhing under that criteria.

Physically, light headedness, nosebleeds and hyperverntilation may happen as the body adjusts to the loss of the soul's connection.

However, not everything might be that case.

There have been reports saying that there are instances where, after the string was cut, the individual's pair (or now, ex-pair), will completely forget them as well.

Because of the complete erasure of an existence supposedly so important to you, the individual taking the pill may experience extreme palpirations, fainting, or even coma.

Not all may wish for the latter situation to happen, but truthfully, Izuku was at the end of his line (pun intended), and wishes for complete erasure to happen.

"It has to be cut, no matter what the cost", he says desperately.

A strained relationship with him and his pair has led him to this decision. Although it was rare for the second scenario to happen, he has prepared countermeasures already.

He has informed his agency way back that he might have to take a sudden long break and asked them not to ask why. In case the worst-case scenario happens, Uraraka or Iida will be the one to inform his agency.

A few days before admitting himself to the hospital, he has already informed his friends and family of his plans, and asked them not to tell his pair of that plan.

"It's for his sake", he says, looking down at the string on his pinky finger.

A one sided decision to cut the string would cause a lot of confusion to the other person especially if you've known each other for a while, but considering that Izuku's pair never really saw him meant that the other person would never know who he is, and why his string never was connected.

For instances like this, the best time to drink the pill was at night, preferably when the person on the other end is asleep. To lessen confusion or repercussions on the other side of the string.

Knowing Katsuki, anytime after 9pm would be a good time, as Izuku's notes would tell him.

"Are you sure you want to do this?", Uraraka asks as she pats Izuku's head as he lays on the hospital bed.

"Its for the best", he smiles.

When the clock struck 12, he popped the pills and closed his eyes.
