Summary
Jeongguk's scars suddenly ache with longing as he stares into the river. They itch, itch, itch like skin begging to be shed. He wants to dive underneath. Down, down until the sun cannot touch him. His hands curl into fists to keep himself from jumping in. "Mother Sunyoung doesn't want me in the river," he says.
"That's because she's afraid of what you are."
"And you know what I am?"
A slow smile unwinds across his face. "Yes."
