Chapter Text
Since the day Jimin was born his life was planned out for him. The things to come, the choices he’ll make, the lessons he’ll learn, and the kingdom he’ll soon rule. Everything was set for him the moment he was born; there was no escaping it, no fighting it. This was his life and he would forever have to deal with it, even if he doesn’t want to. Even if he hates every single thing about it. He never wanted any of this….he rather it’s given to someone who does. But it can’t be.
Growing up the Omega was always surrounded by people. Servants, teachers, trainers…his bodyguards. There was hardly a moment Jimin was ever truly alone to his own thoughts, constantly having to worry about pleasing others. It was like a never-ending game of having to stuff his own desires, thoughts, and feelings, and passions down into a safe that was locked and even he couldn’t figure out the code to open it.
Sure, it wasn’t extremely bad. After all, he did have the privilege of having delicious food and nice clothing. And there were a few decent people around the castle that Jimin did enjoy being around. But nothing made it worth being here. He’s sure that his life away from all this would be so much better. He wouldn’t have as much responsibility. Or maybe he would…but at least the weight of an entire kingdom wouldn’t be on his shoulders.
There was only one thing that ever made this life he was given worthwhile And not so much a thing, but rather a person. His bodyguard Yoongi. A man who came from a poor family but proved himself to be worthy of taking on such a task like guarding a Prince. His skills were far more superior to the others that ran around the palace and some came to him when they needed advice or instructions. It was almost like Yoongi was their leader, they relied on him for many things.
At first, though, Jimin was reluctant to ever get close to him. He had no desire to speak to another person who would only make him feel more suffocated. To have someone watch over him twenty-four seven, seeing whenever he made a mistake, listening in on his conversations. He despised it. For the good part of the first few months after Yoongi’s arrival, Jimin barely spoke a word to the man.
Now looking back Jimin can’t really recall how exactly the two began talking, he doesn’t even remember when he began to trust Yoongi. But now, he regrets not doing it sooner, regrets not speaking to him the first day he arrived. It’s only because of him that he feels less suffocated. Yoongi was his first actual friend. And maybe something more.
As Crowned Prince Jimin knew there was one other thing besides running a kingdom that he would have to do no questions asked. And if Jimin was being honest, he probably hated this more than the thought of being the ruler of a kingdom. But it was something he had to do. Why? Jimin knew why he knew his parents' stupid reasoning and he hated it.
He was not going to marry some stranger. An alliance was something they didn’t need now. Why would you marry your son off to someone from a distant kingdom? There’s no trust, no love, no communication. There’s nothing. Jimin isn’t even friends with any of the other Princes that are seeking out their future partner. The only person he’s friends with besides Yoongi is King Taehyung but he’s already married to King Hoseok. He was out of the question.
It never made sense to Jimin. What if the person Jimin one day came to marry was someone untrustworthy? What if they destroyed everything his parents had built up? Spend all their gold? Dismiss their workers? No one knows how to properly run this kingdom like his parents and him. No one from another kingdom would ever do justice here. He didn’t need anyone else to help him. He doesn’t need to marry anyone.
Beside…Yoongi already had his heart. Yoongi, his first friend in the castle, the man who made everything better. Jimin never meant to fall in love with him, well could he even call it love? What was love exactly? Another thing he truly lacked from being locked up in a castle tortured with constant lessons, and no people skills. But he’s read stories, he’s seen how they love…and he’s sure that’s how he feels towards Yoongi.
Yoongi was always someone who made him happy, their time together was something he always cherished and looked forward to in the day. It made it easier to get through his meetings and lessons because he knew shortly after he would be with Yoongi.
Though there was something faulty with their relationship. Something Jimin is scared of. Something that if the world found out…would cause a riot, would cause a lot of bad things to happen to him, his parents and Yoongi. So he’s hidden it. He’s tried to keep it out of sight, and out of mind. He’s taken suppressants to try and hide the change in his scent. And if Yoongi noticed he doesn’t mention it.
Jimin’s glad he doesn’t though.
How is he to tell them? How does he explain to his parents that he’s pregnant with his bodyguard’s child and that he thinks he’s madly in love with him? How does he explain that he doesn’t want an arranged married he wants to be with Yoongi but knows he can’t. Jimin knows. He knows that nothing could ever change between him and Yoongi. He’s a high-class heir to the throne while Yoongi is from a poor family that somehow managed to become a bodyguard.
Nothing could ever become of them, nothing public. They hide behind the closed doors of Jimin’s room acting like Yoongi is merely guarding him while they share forbidden kisses, forbidden love. While they act like their just two boys who are in love with each other and there’s nothing holding them back. They act like everything is okay when they know nothing is.
But there’s another thing…Yoongi doesn’t even know Jimin is pregnant. The Omega is terrified to allow the Alpha to know. He’s too terrified to tell anyone about it. It was a mistake. A mistake that Jimin doesn’t regret but wishes happened later. A mistake that scares Jimin more than marrying a stranger or running a kingdom.
He’s terrified to tell Yoongi about it, and he’s terrified to inform his parents.
“Mother.” Jimin begins at their daily breakfast. It’s something they’ve always done since Jimin was able to feed and walk himself. From the corner of his eyes, he can see Yoongi shifting in his spot as if he knows what Jimin was about to say to his mother. He wouldn’t be surprised if Yoongi guessed correctly. There are very few times Jimin ever began a conversation during their shared meals.
He’s shaking, mind running at the speed of light thinking about how this conversation can go. His stomach turns thinking of how angry both his parents will become, how he’ll probably end up leaving this room with tears falling down his cheeks and Yoongi quickly trailing after him. He thinks about how Yoongi will have to calm him down in his bedroom by pressing soft kisses under his eyes and holding him.
His stomach is filled with dread already anticipating this talk to not go well and now Jimin was seriously regretting ever opening his mouth. He should have stayed quiet and munched on his apple tarts and eggs.
“Yes, son?” His mother asks. Jimin lets go of his apple tart placing it down onto the plate and bringing his hands together underneath the table. He doesn’t want them to notice how much his body is quaking at doing this, at going against something they want, something they think is right.
“I was thinking…about the arranged married.” He begins sucking in a breath. From the corner of his eye again he can see the flicker of emotion pass Yoongi’s face before going back to the cold blank gaze he’s been trained to keep at all times. Jimin feels bad for having to do this while he’s in here. His own lover has to hear about his stupid arranged marriage proposals. “I understand you and Father both want me to be with a man who can help me run the kingdom. Someone who will always be by my side, someone who will be there. But Mother, it’s almost like a game here. We’ve had some many offers from multiple kingdoms and we have never see eye-to-eye. It’s a waste of time Mother. I won’t agree to any of these people and I don’t need to be married off to someone for this reason.”
“Jimin I-“
“I am perfectly capable of handling this kingdom myself. I can barely hold a conversation with people unless it’s business related, all my life has been spent on rules and rules and rules. Regulations and rules. I’m sure I can handle taking care of all this myself.” Jimin moves his gaze to meet his mother’s eyes refusing to even dare a glance at his father. He already knows this is angering him. “I refuse to marry someone I don’t know, can’t trust and don’t love. You can’t make me.”
He inhales a sharp breath quacking averting his gaze down to his half-eaten apple tart. There’s a part of him that regrets speaking the way he did, but there’s also a part of him that’s proud. If he can’t stand his ground for something he wants he’ll never be a good ruler.
“Son,” His mother speaks gently. She’s always been a little nicer between his parents. She wasn’t one to instantly blow up in flames like his father. “It’s nice to see you’re finally taking a stand and trying to go against this. You’re finally standing your ground for something, but son…you will marry one of those Princes. Whether you want to or not it is your duty as the prince.”
Jimin frowns, “I never asked to be the goddamn prince of anything.” He says aloud out of anger. He doesn’t even register that he has until-
“Park Jimin!” His father’s voice booms making him jump in his seat. “You will not speak to your mother that way. Remember she is your mother and your queen. She deserves respect. You will marry one of those princes and if I have to pick one myself and arrange the entire thing I will. Do not test me, my boy.”
The Omega can already feel the way tears prick at his eyes. Of course, any attempt Jimin does to fight against something gets shut down. Anytime he fights for what he believes or wants all heads to turn the other way. Sometimes he just feels he’s talking to himself.
He hates knowing that he was right as he stands up without bothering to ask for permission to leave. Hates knowing that he really is going to leave crying because he’s weak against their words. As he walks towards the exit he can already tell Yoongi is pacing after him in an attempt to catch up.
It’s all he knows how to do after dealing with his parents. Run and cry. It’s what he’s always done and nothing will ever change.
“Baby,” Yoongi whispers holding Jimin tightly to his chest. Jimin holds on to him as his tears fall. He isn’t sobbing yet more so just extremely upset so the tears keep coming against his will. Though it feels nice to be in Yoongi’s arms. It’s comforting, relaxing. “I’m proud of you for trying to stand your ground against them. It’s not an easy task to do but you were brave today.”
“Maybe I was brave,” Jimin mumbles looking up at Yoongi with his puffy eyes and spit stained lips. “But it didn’t work. It never worked. It was a waste of my time. They’ll never listen to me.”
“They just don’t understand you as I do.” Yoongi hums. Jimin closes his eyes as Yoongi kisses away his tears just like he knew he would do earlier. They’ve done this same routine a few times already. It’s tiring at this rate.
Jimin doesn’t know what it is but that feeling from breakfast still hasn’t gone away. His stomach is still turning and he has a bad feeling about something now. It feels like there’s something Yoongi wants to say but isn’t. Something he’s hiding.
They’re both hiding something at this point.
The Omega opens his mouth to say something but before he can Yoongi is pressing his lips to Jimin’s. It takes him by surprise but when he catches on he’s kissing the Alpha back.
It’s when Yoongi pulls away and Jimin looks in his eyes that his suspicions are confirmed. Yoongi’s eyes are filled with sadness, grief. They aren’t his normal happy eyes that Jimin absolutely adores.
“Yoongi?” Jimin asks timidly. He’s worried about the answer. “What’s wrong?”
Yoongi exhales a breath looking away from Jimin. It’s almost as if he’s trying to ignore the topic. “I think…I think you should go through with the marriage…” He speaks quietly. Jimin isn’t sure he hears him correctly at first but he knows he can’t be mistaking those words.
“W-what? W-why?” He can feel the tears coming back, the way his heart is already breaking.
“Jimin, I love you.” Yoongi turns and locks eyes with Jimin. “Always have and always will. But we both know that we can never be together. We will never get that happy ending we’re looking for because we’re from two different worlds. I don’t want to give you up, I never want to, but I have to. You have an entire kingdom to watch…you need someone else to help you.”
“You don’t believe I can do it on my own. I can handle my parents…I-I can.” The first of the fresh tears fall as does the first piece of Jimin’s broken heart. “Please Yoongi…don’t do this. D-don’t break this up. Please…I need you. We need you.”
“We?” Yoongi questions tilting his head to the side. “What do you mean ‘we’?”
A sob wracks through Jimin’s body as he looks down at his stomach. “I’m pregnant Yoongi. A-and you’re the father.”
