Work Text:
Jungkook was sitting anxiously on the chair in the school's conference room. His main teacher was sitting opposite him and writing what he assumed to be emails on her computer. It was currently 4:05 pm and the meeting should have started 5 minutes ago, but they were still waiting.
Suddenly the door burst open. Jungkook was expecting to see one of the managers, or maybe even Hitman Bang if he was unlucky. Who he definitely didn’t expect to enter the room was Namjoon.
“W-what are you doing here?!” Jungkook asked, eyes wide with confusion.
“Manager Hobeom is still on vacation, Sejin is down with the flu and Bang PD-nim was busy, so you’re stuck with me, kid” He answered and turned to shake the teacher's hand. “Hello, ma’am. You must be Ms. Soojin, my name is Kim Namjoon. I’m Jungkook’s hyung and the leader of BTS. I’m so sorry for being late, we had some problems with transportation.” He took off his jacket and sat down on the chair beside Jungkook.
“Don’t worry about it,” Soojin assured with a gentle smile. “It’s nice to meet you Namjoon. Now if we shall begin, do you know why I called a meeting today?”
“Well... Not really, I just got told that Jungkook got issues at school and that I should come urgently…” Namjoon looked like he was ashamed for not knowing what was going on, and the maknae couldn’t help but feel a bit bad for getting him involved.
“How about you Jungkook-ssi?” the teacher continued.
“Uhm.. maybe- uhm… sleeping in- uhm… class?-“ He looked down and fidgeted with his fingers, he suddenly felt really small and embarrassed. “- and not making my- uhm.. homework…”
“yes, that is correct. Jungkook here has been sleeping through not just my classes, but maths and English class as well, on a daily basis. He’s also not making any homework or assignments. He failed the quiz we had yesterday, which he could easily have aced if he just would pay attention in class and made his homework. He will get too far behind if we don’t act soon, which is why I called for a meeting.”
Namjoon felt his stomach tense up a bit by each sentence. He had always known that Jungkook wasn’t the best student but he had no idea it was near this bad. He looked over at the boy who continued to look down.
“This is a problem, Jungkook” Namjoon’s voice sounded disappointed and worried, the least thing Jungkook would want. “why are you sleeping in class?”
“I don’t know… It just sort of happens”
“When do you go to bed at night?” The teacher asked.
Jungkook didn’t actually hate Ms. Soojin. In fact, it was probably his favorite teacher. She was young, sweet and always super understanding, but right now he was so annoyed at her for making him have this conversation.
“Maybe like- uhm… 2 am? Maybe 2.30 some nights..” he said quietly.
“That’s way too late for a student your age or just any student in general,” she looked concerned over at Namjoon.
Namjoon winced, he knew that he was probably bad influence and was part of the reason why the younger had been going so late to bed. It wasn’t okay to be going to bed so late when you had school the next day but it was normal at their house.
“Kid, why are you staying up so late if you’re tired?” he proceeded to ask anyway
“B-but I’m not tired. Besides, we have to practice, and work in the studio,” Jungkook protested and looked up for the first time.
“Yeah, but you’re rarely staying until that late, what are you doing up at night?”
Jungkook knew his hyung was going to get mad, and for a short moment he considered lying but he quickly decided against it, he was already down too deep. “Uhm.. playing overwatch,”
“Jungkookie... that’s not acceptable”
Namjoon didn’t have to say that. Jungkook knew it wasn’t.
“Why are you not making your homework?” he continued
“I don’t have time”
“You have time to play overwatch but not for homework,” The rapper lifted an eyebrow in disbelief, “That doesn’t seem right to me, buddy.”
“It’s just-“ the younger bit his lip, he was so embarrassed. “- It’s hard, okay!” He blurted, almost yelled out. “It’s too difficult for me…”
“If you just paid attention in class, it wouldn’t be so difficult,” Soojin looked over at him with somewhat understanding eyes. She wanted to help him, Jungkook knew that. But she just didn’t get that homework had always been difficult for him. That no matter how hard he tried, the knowledge just wouldn’t stick to his brain.
“Well, I think the solution is pretty simple. We need to get the boy a bedtime and make sure there’s always someone there to help him with homework if he needs it.” Namjoon proposed. His gaze shifted from Jungkook to Soojin and then back to Jungkook who looked scandalized.
“What? No! I’m not a kid,” His eyebrows furrowed, and his lips curled downwards to a frown. “I don’t need a bedtime, and I most certainly doesn’t need someone to watch over me while doing homework.”
Namjoon completely ignored the youngers protest, and he looked over at the teacher. “Ms., how much time do you recommend your students to set off to homework daily?”
“Oh, well it kinda depends” she shrugged “I would say 30 minutes to an hour daily, and also not doing everything right before the due date”
“Okay then,” he gave Jungkook a serious look. “From now on, you will be home by 8 and in bed at 10 o’clock,” he said with no room for negotiation.
“W-what? Noo. That’s way too early. I’m not even tired that early.”
“But you will be when you stop sleeping in class” Soojin informed.
“But what about practice?”
“You know that it says in your contract that since you are a minor, you have to prioritize school over anything else. It’s not going to be a problem.” Namjoon informed. “You shouldn’t be practicing that late at night anyway.”
“You’re not my dad, stop thinking you can decide over me,” The younger spat out
Namjoon was good at hiding how shocked he was for the younger to say that. “You’re right, I’m not. But if you want I will gladly call him and tell him about what’s going on.” He raised an eyebrow “I don’t think he’ll be thrilled, do you?”
Jungkook huffed annoyed.
“This is not a punishment, buddy. We’re just trying to help you,” Namjoon leaned over and put a hand on the youngers shoulder, but Jungkook immediately yanked it off.
“Jungkook-ssi, your hyung obviously cares a lot about you. Go home now and listen to what he says.” Soojin said carefully, “once you get used to it, it won’t be that bad.”
“hm.” Jungkook just wanted out of there, he had had enough.
Namjoon gave him a scolding look “I suppose we are done now then. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if any of this behavior continues. Here, I will give you my personal email so you can contact me directly instead of having it go through management.” He grabbed a pen and wrote the email on a note.
“It was nice to meet you Namjoon-ssi. Please get home safely, and I will see you tomorrow, Jungkook.” Soojin said as she stood up to greet the boys farewell.

It was obvious that Jungkook was upset. The usually lively boy hadn’t a word on the entire way home. When they arrived at the dorm, Jungkook went straight for the bedroom.
“Do you have any homework, Jungkook-ah?” Namjoon asked but was met with a loud slam from the bedroom door.
Defeated, he sat down on a kitchen chair beside Hoseok, who was scrolling through twitter. Seokjin was also in the room, cooking something.
“Well, sounds like the meeting went great,” The oldest hyung joked sarcastically.
“What was it about anyway, do we need to worry?” Hoseok asked, not looking up from his phone.
Namjoon proceeded to tell a short summary of what the teacher had told him earlier as well as the new rules for Jungkook.
“Wow, that really sucks,” Hoseok said with a frown. “But I suppose that it’s necessary”
“It won’t be so bad once he gets used to it” Seokjin added and looked over at Namjoon who looked exhausted “Just let him cool down for now… and inform the others so they know what’s going on and will be careful around him if he isn’t in the best mood.”

Time flew by, Yoongi and the 95’duo got home from the studio a bit later, and just in time to eat dinner.
Yoongi knocked on his younger bandmate’s bedroom door, “Kook, food’s ready.”
“Hmm? ‘m not hungry,” Jungkook yelled back.
The rapper opened the door slightly and popped his head inside, “Come on, kid… you know you gotta eat, you haven’t eaten all day,” He glanced firmly at his dongsaeng who was resting on his bed with his phone in hand.
“Nuh uh, not true, I ate lunch in school,” Jungkook defended.
“That was hours ago, kook” The door was now fully opened “Come on, now.”
“Fine...” Jungkook sulked and started moving off his bed and out to the kitchen.
Dinner was a quiet affair, which was a shame because the members rarely got the opportunity to sit down and eat all together at home, none the less a meal that Seokjin had made himself.
After a while, Namjoon and Yoongi started a convocation about the songs on their next album, and everyone quickly joined. Even Jungkook eventually warmed up enough to contribute.
Hoseok was the first to get up and put his plate in the dishwasher and after that, everyone started to flee one by one. When Jungkook got up, Seokjin knew they couldn’t avoid asking any longer.
“Do you have any homework for tomorrow, Jungkook-ah?” he went.
“Nope.”
“How about Friday?” Jimin asked carefully with a raised eyebrow.
Jungkook gave him a deathly glare like if the elder had just insulted his mom.
“Maths,” he mumbled
Seokjin ignored his attitude. “Alright, you go start on that then while we do the rest of the dishes.”

When Yoongi went into the maknae’s room 15 minutes later, he was surprised the see the younger actually at his desk with his homework in front of him. However, he wasn’t surprised to see that he wasn’t doing any of it and instead was playing some game on his phone.
“So, what do we have here today?” He sat down beside him and started reading the sheet.
“Something about cars and CO2,” Jungkook responded, not looking up from his phone.
Yoongi snatched it from him. “It doesn’t seem too difficult Jungkook-ah,” he ignored the offended look he got back “John has an old car that emits 140 gram of CO2 per kilometer, He takes a trip where he has to drive 153 kilometers. How much CO2 does the car emit on the trip? C’mon kid, you know that”
Jungkook looked down. “It gets more difficult further down” he defended.
“Alright, but let’s just focus on this question for now, yeah? How do you work out how much CO2 the car produces?”
“...uhm... 140 times 153”
“Yeah that’s right, are you allowed to use a calculator for this?”
“Mhm, I’m supposed to” He grabbed his phone back and went into the calculator app “so that’s 21420 gram CO2”
“right, good job” Yoongi gave a small smirk “See? I knew you could do it”
Jungkook scowled “That was the only easy one”
“Don’t just give up before you are even started, kid. Have we taught you nothing?” He took the sheet again and started reading. “Okay so, John wants to buy a new car that only emits 88 grams of CO2 per kilometer, how many percent CO2 does the new car emit less than the old car”
Jungkook just glared at him with his mouth hanging open and Yoongi sighed while standing up to grab a piece of clean paper, as well as a pencil. “I’ll explain it to you, okay. Don’t get upset”
It took about an hour or so before they had gotten through the entire assignment. Yoongi had to explain and help with pretty much every question following the first one and Jungkook had multiple times asked if they could stop and do the rest the following day. ‘Just get it over with, buddy. You will thank yourself tomorrow’ had been the answer that the elder had given him.
When they were done, they went to the living room where the rest of the members were already seating. The group’s favorite k-drama was about the start. Even the members who didn’t watch dramas had fallen in love with this series. The members were having some good quality time which was pretty rare with their hectic schedule. Jimin had popped some popcorns for them to enjoy and it quickly became 10 pm.
Jungkook had on purpose kept quiet, so that the rest of the band wouldn’t notice the time. He wasn’t entirely sure if they were just letting him stay up to not upset him but he didn’t really care. However, Taehyung was the first one to speak up at 10.30 pm. when what they were watching ended. He stood up and stretched quickly.
“Alright Jungkookie, we should wash up and get to bed”
Jungkook’s eyebrows furrowed with confusion, “we..?”
“Yes! I’m soooooo tired,” he exaggerated. “So I was kinda hoping I could crash your bed tonight. You don’t mind, do you?”
“wha- uhm.. no..” The youngers face grew red.
“Great! Let’s get going then” Taehyung grabbed his wrist and pulled him up from the couch.
The two youngest went to get ready to go to sleep and ended up cuddled up in Jungkook’s bed not long after.

“Put your phone away, Jungkookie,” Taehyung said has he gave disappointed glare. “It’s already past your bedtime, don’t push it” Even though he was just 2 years older than Jungkook, his voice was filled with authority just as much as Namjoon’s had been earlier on that day.
Jungkook really hated being controlled. They were supposed to be his bandmates. His best friends. Not his parents. “But I’m not tired”
“Jungkookie, you literally have the ability to sleep anywhere at any time….” His eyes sparkled sympathetically. “Just imagine that you’re gonna take a nap on the couch in the studio after school”
“… It’s not the same” Jungkook mumbled in protest.
“Just try” Taehyung suggested, looking him in the eyes, barely visible with the dimed lightning.
And even though it didn’t happen right away, both of them ended up sleeping peacefully until morning came.
