The Anubis is a Specter of Death which functions as a Mirror Image to the living. It can only be killed with purifying Fire; any other attack made upon the Anubis will simply provoke it into using its own Fire against you. The Anubis is effectively Immortal save for its weakness to Fire, such that if one does not destroy it, it will continue to mirror one’s movements for all Eternity. Thus, it is a powerful symbol of one’s own mortality in Gerudo culture, given that without the aid of Fire against it, it is an Inescapable Enemy that- while not actively malicious- will mirror one’s every move, serving as a Barrier and forcing you to face it. For this reason, those who have slain an Anubis are considered to be truly Courageous in Gerudo culture, as it is said that to face an Anubis is akin to facing one’s own death.
