Working at the same company usually does have its pros and cons. It’s either both of you guys have the same work shifts so missing each other even if you both live together wouldn’t be such a problem.
Or one of you has different day offs due to rotating work shifts so there’s a huge possibility of not being able to see one another even if you’re under one roof or one company.
And today is a day that Kunikida sighs deeply to himself because it’s been almost five days now that he hasn’t been able to see or even have a proper talk with Oda. The latter has been assigned to the late-night shifts, while he is stuck with the morning shifts.
Once Oda is set to finally sleep for the day, he’s just about to start his and if he’s just on his way home, Oda was already gone to work. But the redhead never failed to leave a short note on their fridge every single day for him to read.
It took him another hour to finally get home due to some last-minute cases that they have to review and discuss for tomorrow morning. Kunikida opened the door and the smell of freshly baked bread welcomed him. He’s confused, should Oda be at work already?
“Uhh, honey?”
“Oh, you’re finally here! You’re just right in time, I baked some brownies earlier and the dinner rolls just finished baking as well. I’ll prepare the table real quick, so rest up a bit okay?” Oda said while putting down the tray of fresh bread to a cooling rack.
“Didn't you have work tonight?” Kunikida was still looking at his husband surprised while looking at Oda with full adoration on how he can look still gorgeous while wearing an apron with traces of flour on his face.
With that, Oda smiled and looked at him and said, “I know it’s been five days now since the last time we properly saw each other, I know you’re getting frustrated and I miss you already so I asked for a day off or night off if you can call it.”
And that’s enough reason for Kunikida to drop everything he’s holding, heck he doesn’t care about those files anymore. So he started walking towards his husband and gave the man a tight hug which was quickly returned with an even tighter one.
“Yes, I missed you too. I was actually getting a bit upset about it but wow you really never fail to surprise me after all this time.”
“I’m glad you liked my surprise then. Sorry to keep you waiting this long.” Oda answered while removing his glasses and wiping some traces of tears on Kunikida's face.
“It’s for work so it’s understandable and I’m always willing to wait when it comes to you.” He reassured while looking at Oda’s eyes and wiping the flour off of his face.
“Have I told you that I love you?”
“Yes honey, and you also did the moment I opened our door. And I love you too.”
They shared a sweet kiss that bought smiles to their faces.
“I can already tell that the brownies turned out really good by the taste of it from your mouth. Let me help you set up the table, okay?”
“Anything you want, love.”
And right now, Kunikida is enjoying the pros of that work situation.
