eggnog & my husband in the kitten sweater

Summary:

the christmas party wasn’t all that horrible, even knee deep in eggnog and alcohol and those ugly fucking sweaters. jeongguk loves his job, loves his coworkers most of the time, so a christmas party where they get to sit around and shoot the shit and get drunk on candy cane shots was right up his alley.

he’s got his own ugly sweater; a mock-up pink bunny rabbit sweater off of some christmas show that yoongi watched as a kid and thought was all too fitting to not pick up from the store. (jeongguk had been happy to return the favor with a light up kitten sweater that had not been so well received.)

Work Text:

the christmas party wasn’t all that horrible, even knee deep in eggnog and alcohol and those ugly fucking sweaters. jeongguk loves his job, loves his coworkers most of the time, so a christmas party where they get to sit around and shoot the shit and get drunk on candy cane shots was right up his alley.

he’s got his own ugly sweater; a mock-up pink bunny rabbit sweater off of some christmas show that yoongi watched as a kid and thought was all too fitting to not pick up from the store. (jeongguk had been happy to return the favor with a light up kitten sweater that had not been so well received.)

mingyu and bambam were currently monopolizing the bar for adult beverages, yugyeom is attempting to seduce his boyfriends using jeongguk’s solo choreography and he’s not sure whether to be flattered or embarrassed. jaehyun and the other two 97’ liners had mysteriously disappeared after the white elephant exchanged gifted them with a bag of condoms. jeongguk doesn’t want to think about that too much, he just hopes that his choreography isn’t being stolen there either.

luckily the company was hosting the party, so there were plenty more people he could talk to that were mostly sober.

the girls from sunmi’s group were there (they were suspiciously smug when jaehyung opened up his gift) and trying to convince jeongguk to do their choreography because— in their own words— he does it far better.

“it’s unfair, jeongguk-ah, you’ve got more feminine hips than any of us!” sunmi giggles, earning her an eye roll and himself a wine-sticky kiss on the cheek.

jeongguk is having a fair time, bouncing between his friends and co-workers with a spiked cup of some american traditional eggnog that one of the exchange trainees insisted to bring. he’s a far cry different than he was when he came to pursue life in seoul, struggling despite his parent’s reluctant help and encouragement. jeongguk is talking to his best friends and co-workers on holiday right before he goes home for christmas with—

“not to freak you out jk, but this one guys had eyes on you all night. he’s been staring and i don’t think he’s had a single drink or so much as moved since you got here.” mark points out quietly and gently, much more sober than his counterpart—

jackson pipes up quickly, “yeah, i think he followed him in.” he is a lot less quiet and calm about it, pointing the offending body.

jeongguk has to fight to hold back a laugh, looking at the man. he’s sporting bubblegum pink hair, a kitten sweater, and a harsh glare that puts their shared cat to shame; min yoongi.

“thank you for your concern, but that’s not just any creepy stranger. it’s my dumb, jealous, brooding husband that was forced to this christmas party in an ugly sweater i found. he’s also my designated driver, so he agreed not to drink.” then, turning, “yoongi-ah!”

the brooding stare turns shocked and shy as he slowly stands and weaves through the people to come up behind the younger. jeongguk’s hand gravitates naturally to yoongi’s who grins gently at him despite his discomfort. it’s after a few awkward moments and a kind but quiet hello from yoongi that jeongguk notices that the people around him have quieted.

“you’re married?” is the general shout of surprise, and it’s like a record scratch scene change because suddenly he’s being grilled.

he and yoongi had been together since early highschool, when jeongguk was a shy but feisty underclassmen and yoongi was an impassive but caring upperclassmen who took a liking to jeongguk when they were put into a musical project together. yoongi decided to forgo traditional school and do online school in order to focus on producing music, a majority of which went to jeongguk to dance to.

when jeongguk was offered a spot at sopa for his final year of school, and yoongi’s application was accepted by a smaller scale idol company, it seemed only natural that they go together. jeongguk’s parents were rightly hesitant, though they trusted yoongi enough to take care of him and not corrupt him or distract him until he was legally able to care for himself. funnily enough, two years later as both of their careers rapidly improved and yoongi caught an opportunity for them to go to hawaii on a retreat, the younger proposed.

it was within the week that they managed to fly out their best friends and jeongguk’s parents and get married. they stayed past the end of the retreat, their honeymoon lasting them for what felt like forever. jeongguk’s first ring was simply one of the ones yoongi was most fond of on his finger. his second one however—

“yoongi-ah, i handed it to you, right?” the elder nods, pulling it gently out of his pocket in a velvety bag. some of the less interested, though still amused, people dispersed already, though his closer ones were hanging onto every thread.

bambam gapes, “you have a ring? i have never once seen you with a ring on!” he sounds betrayed, as if he was personally offended by never once knowing this information.

jeongguk scrunches his nose. “it’s part of the rules in the studio— no jewelry or accessories.”

“but the gym!” he tries to argue, but jeongguk laughs.

“i leave it home so i don’t run the risk of getting it caught on equipment.” he giggles, and then flashes the silicone band on his ring finger. “i wear this one to all of the parties so i don’t run the risk of losing it.” jeongguk focuses cutely on handing his silicone ring to yoongi, who puts it on his pinky finger with an amused look at his husband.

(sunmi swoons, scarily in time with the rest of her group.)

jeongguk pulls out the ring and slides it onto his finger, proceeding to flash it to the group. “god damn it min! you’re going to make it even harder to propose now that that bar is set.” yoongi laces his hand back into jeongguk’s from where it’d been ripped away during his show and tell bit. “i’d never take that off if i were you.” jaehyun sighs, looking at the large stone set in gold.

“like i said, i don’t want to lose it.”

“in his defense, he’s never actually lost it before, i stole it from him when i was blackout drunk and tried to propose to him because i forgot i’d already married him. now he’s just paranoid.” bambam fake pukes, sending the others back into their original party motion.

mingyu stays seated still, looking at him curiously. “why didn’t you ever come out and say that you had a husband?” he asks jeongguk as he and yoongi find a spot to sit nearby.” jeongguk tilts his head.

“i’ve been complaining for years about how headquarters hasn’t changed my id to min instead of jeon. i’m pretty sure i once said, ‘my husband could make a phone call right now and get it changed if i wasn’t so stubborn’.” yoongi’s hand subconsciously reaches up to play with the hair at the base of the younger’s neck, looking up at him fondly in a way that makes mingyu melt to the core with fondness.

“how long have you been married?” he asks, curious. mingyu has sobered up quite a bit in his time away from harassing the bartenders, and he’s more sleepily intuitive of the how jeongguk gravitates impossibly close to yoongi.

yoongi answers this time, proudly announcing, “we just celebrated three.” and god, does it make sense. jeongguk’s been glowingly domestic since he’s known him, and he wonders how it wasn’t obvious before.

it doesn’t take long for jeongguk to take off into the party again, get blackout drunk with bambam at the bar and then take up sunmi’s offer to dance, and then attempt to woo yoongi as if he doesn’t already own his whole ass. yoongi takes him home shortly after that, leaving with kind farewells far different than he arrived with.

(the next day as yoongi nurses jeongguk’s hangover, jeongguk recieves an email from the company, a confirmation that he would like his company identification name changed, and he’s positively giddy for a few moments until he’s leaning over the toilet again.)

(jeongguk didn’t have to know that upon his departure, half of the sober and the majority of the not-so-sober attendees turned their attentions to their emails to complain to the company ceo with less than sensical demands that he approve the request for a name change of his employee, min jeongguk.)
