“You’re gorgeous,” he says thoughtlessly, the words leaving him almost breathlessly. Seokjin’s eyes widen as they meet his, the crow’s feet around them still there. “And your laugh is wonderful. I would tell a hundred silly puns to get the chance to hear it again.”
A blush spreads across Seokjin’s face, turning his cheeks and his neck red. It’s such a pretty look that Jeongguk wishes he could stare at him for the rest of the day. His Alpha agrees with him, and, always the more bold one between them, begs Jeongguk to ask Seokjin out on a date.

“Alright,” Hoseok says again but this time there’s a smile on his face, relief evident in the way his shoulders drop, the tension finally leaving him. Confidence seems to seep back into his limbs, his back straightening. Jeongguk stares at him, their heart fluttering in their chest. “So I can look forward to a text from you tonight?”
“Or maybe we can skip that and go out after my shift? I should be out and done in thirty minutes.” Jeongguk can’t hide the shimmer of hope in their voice, but somehow they don’t even mind. Something about Hoseok makes them want to be open and vulnerable, and as frightening as it is, it’s also freeing.

“Yoongi-yah,” he repeats, just to feel it on his tongue again.
Yoongi responds with Jeongguk’s own name, the familiar and delicate hint he always says it in. Somehow, he sounds just as tender and intimate as Jeongguk did when he said Yoongi’s name with no formality attached to it.
It makes Jeongguk’s heart throb. But instead of pain or anxiety attached to it, Jeongguk can only feel warmth.

The way Hoseok looks at him makes Jeongguk feel like Icarus himself, ready to let his wings of wax carry him closer and closer to the sun that is Hoseok—and somehow, for a reason unknown to Jeongguk himself, he thinks that even if his wings ended up melting until he had nothing left to experience but a free fall, he wouldn't even mind, welcoming it with open arms and closed eyes.

“Before Soojin passed, she gave me a name. Well, I’m pretty sure it’s a name. An unfamiliar one.”
He’s played it over in his head again and again so he wouldn’t forget it. It isn’t familiar to him, not a name that’s ever belonged to his pack. It must mean something, though. It was the last thing she said before she died.
“Kim Taehyung.”
Alpha looks more upset now than he did when he first approached Jeongguk in the clearing. “He is the one that kept her away from us. He is human, Jeongguk, the boy should not be left with him.”
It comes out like a command, the words spat out. They linger in the air until Alpha’s eyes are on him expectantly.
Jeongguk nods, a slight jerk of his head to acknowledge the statement. He sinks back when Alpha accepts it and extracts the boy from his chest to wake him further.
Regardless of what Alpha wants, he knows Soojin gave him that name for a reason, used the last of her breath to do so.
Jeongguk is going to find Kim Taehyung.

Jungkook got hospital. Got didn't make it.
Got custody.
