Work Text:

With a worn black suitcase gripped tightly in hand, Dazai swiftly made his way home. Today's work was all completely and utterly complete, and he had half the mind to return to his apartment and drown his thoughts with any kind of cheap liqour he had in his cupboards. The day started off as normal as possible, and this normality continued all the way until work ended in the late afternoon. Without any issue, those around the office quietly filed their reports. However, from the corner of the room Dazai felt a weak gaze nearly burning a hole in the back of his head. Turning around, he was met with a familiar sight: the Armed Detective Agency's newest, Nakajima Atsushi, was starting at him intently without drawing the attention of anyone else with his antics. Unknowing of his reasons, Dazai simply turned his chair around to face his laptop once more, and continued his work in silence.

Earlier, strong rain had begun. Now his footsteps caused quite a stir, and with every tap on the ground the rushing of water followed shortly behind. A typical person would most definitely be slightly troubled— in the midst of such a dark night, walking home alone with only the nearby streetlights home to any light. Though, Dazai could not be considered one of these "typical people,"— he was a member of the Armed Detective agency. So, although very unlikely, if some suspicious person had approached Dazai blanketed in the darkness of night, he would not be the least bit worried. As if such a thing would happen in a city like Yokohama, though.

He abruptly opens the door with a slam, and the shadows in his apartment invited him with open arms. For a moment, he thought to himself, "damn, tomorrow I have to go to work again," only to realize soon after that the dreaded tomorrow was a Saturday, and meant he could drink without a worry in the world. Just a small fragment of happiness burst in the back of his chest.

Dazai looks past the entryway, and silently makes his way forward. Then, though the lights were completely off, he realizes: in front of him lay his underclassman from work, Nakajima Atsushi, sleeping ever so peacefully as if he was an angel. For whatever reason, Dazai's heart begins to pound with a fever not present earlier as he stares at the boy's long eyelashes. He continues to exercise some semblence of restraint though, and carries Atsushi with ease to his futon across the apartment. As his kouhai lay, he would occasionally shift in his sleep, causing Dazai's heart to increase in pace again. Staring quietly at his beloved tiger, he ruffles his hair. Two hours passed and the angel himself finally opens his eyes.

"D-Dazai-san! I'm sorry, aah, no, I mean, please pardon the intrusion..."

"It's alright, Atsushi-kun. There's no need to apologize. But may I ask why you were laying in my apartment's doorway? I'm sure there's a reason."

Gaze fixed on the floor, the boy gently responds.

"I had another dream about 'him'. I was kind of scared, so I used the spare key you gave to me and came here...," Atsushi pauses for a moment, "I'm sorry. It was really rude of me to do that, huh?"

"It's fine, I don't mind it at all. Considering the fact that you're already here, why don't we sleep together?

"Eh?! But Dazai-san, I can't—"

"No no, you said you were scared, Atsushi-kun. It's no big deal so let's hurry and rest— I'm tired from today."

"...I understand. Goodnight, Dazai-san."

"Mhm, goodnight, Atsushi-kun."

Notes:

Thank you for reading. I wrote this as a request my friend had. I realized it's easier to start by writing it in my native language (Japanese) and translating it to English, but dialogue scenes in both of the languages are so different that it's hard for me to make it sound okay in English. Nonetheless, please enjoy.
