Summary
It was well known throughout the land that a ruler who did not have the favor of the gods was not a ruler at all. Kethren knew this well. He had spent his entire life at court, but when his father and his uncle died in rapid succession, he found himself ascending the throne long before he would have chosen. The ritual that had always been an abstract concept was now a looming reality, and he didn't like the sound of it at all.
