Work Text:

Tomura was jolted back to reality by a soft knock at the door. He had been daydreaming, remembering all the little details of his past. He blinked, realizing he had been staring at his own hands.

Those hands... The ones that had always been 'too much'. The ones that would indiscriminately turn anything into dust, people and objects alike. The ones that had set him on this path.

He shakily rose to his feet, his skin bristling at the sudden cold that contrasted the warmth of the blankets. Opening the door, he sighed at the familiar face.

"What is it, ashtray?" he asked, staring into Dabi's cold blue eyes. They were such a beautiful shade, he thought. But they held so much sadness.

"You tell me, mophead. Didn't you ask to see me first?" the taller man replied. He was right. Tomura had asked to see him, though he had secretly hoped he wouldn't come. He needed to talk, but he didn't want to. Still, he had texted Dabi to come to his room. He wasn't exactly sure why anymore.

"...Right. Yeah, I did. I feel like we need to talk." There it was. The phrase that made his blood run cold. "Sit down," Tomura ordered, going back to curl up in his blankets, shivering from the short exposure to the cool air. Dabi raised an eyebrow.

"You alright, boss? You look cold," he said. It came out a little more caring than he meant it to. Tomura seemed to have noticed too, tilting his head slightly.

"That's none of your business." He sighed, sitting down next to the pale boy, who was still shivering.

"What's this about? If it's about that one incident, I've already told you that the building was on fire before I got there-" Tomura cut him off, raising a skeletal hand from the blankets.

"This isn't about the building," he said softly. This piqued Dabi's interest. He didn't know what else there was to talk about, and he had also never heard his boss's voice so soft. "Dabi, I..." He struggled to get the words out, to find the right words. God, what could he say? Was there anything to say? Did he have any right to say it?

"I like you, Dabi."

The words hung in the air an uncomfortably long while. His crush on the man had hung around for an equally uncomfortable time, and he couldn't stand it. It had to be said, but now that it was, he regretted it. He regretted ruining what odd friendship they had. He felt a pit in his stomach growing as his heart pounded. Why had he said it? How could he?

So many thoughts swirled in Tomura's head that he didn't hear Dabi's reply. It was only when he felt his hand on his shoulder that he was jolted out of his trance-like state.

"Did you hear me, creep?" he whispered, blushing amidst the scar tissue that took up most of his face. He shook his head shamefully, letting his pale blue hair obscure his red face. Sighing, Dabi repeated it. "I said, I like you too."

He felt his heart growing louder, pounding in his ears. For a minute, he forgot how to breathe from the shock.

Tomura hadn't even realized he was scratching his neck until he felt Dabi's hands on his wrists, gently holding him back.

He murmured, "If you keep scratching, they're never going to heal, you know." He did know. As much as he had tried, he never got away from his nervous tick. Even during missions, he constantly scratched until it bled, leaving him with half-scabbed wounds that always got worse.

But now, the itch seemed duller, with Dabi holding his hands so carefully, more gentle than Tomura would have thought possible from a man so intimidating in appearance.

Before he could process what he was doing, what on earth he was doing, he felt his chapped lips against Dabi's. He expected himself to pull back, but he didn't. He didn't want to, just as his partner seemed not to. It didn't last long enough, though. Would it ever be enough?

"You're not a very good kisser," Dabi mused, making the crimson-eyed boy flush bright red.

"E-Easy for you to say!" he stammered, flustered. "I-I've never done this before!"

"Wait, really?"

"Yeah, dumbass! I don't go around kissing people a lot, in case you haven't noticed!"

"I'm honored to be your first, then," he smirked. This, of course, only made Tomura blush more. That damn smug ashtray.

He didn't mind though, as Dabi kissed him again, this time taking more control. It wasn't as messy as before, and Tomura melted into it, edging closer to him. The warmth of his body combined with how flushed he now was made him very warm. He felt Dabi gently put a hand around his shoulders, holding him close.

*

Dabi relaxed a little as he felt the trembling stop, rubbing a spot on Tomura's back as a comfort. He pulled away and put his other hand on his face- that beautiful, messy face. Brushing a few strands of pale blue hair out of the way, he kissed him yet again. He never wanted to let go, never wanted it to stop. Unfortunately, it did, but only for him to be gently pulled down onto his back, Tomura wrapping himself around him.

"What am I, your personal heater?" he mumbled, hiding a smile.

"Not that you mind anyway."

"Well, you got me there," he chuckled. He pulled him closer, and felt his heart explode with joy when Tomura buried his face in the crook of his neck. He loved the soft breaths on his neck, he loved the mess of hair covering his chest. He stroked his arm, enjoying when he felt the boy loosening his muscles. He sighed, smiling as he heard Tomura's breathing slow down, drifting off to sleep.
