Dance To This

Summary:

Taehyung scowled. “I’ll turn you into a frog,” he bluffed threateningly, squirming again.

The younger just raised an eyebrow and tightened his hold. “I can do that on my own, babe, but thanks.”

(Or, alternatively, Jungkook moves in with Taehyung.)

Notes:

My birthday was two days ago! Thank you for all the lovely wishes on Twitter ♡

I posted two fics five days ago but... I found this draft unfinished in my notes and decided to finish it!

The title was inspired by ”Dance To This” by Troye Sivan ft. Ariana Grande.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was hot.

That was a given, with Seoul being in the dead middle of summer. But the air felt thick and looked like sizzling waves in the distance down every street, and the stifling heat seemed to find its way into every building despite the best efforts of the city citizens. Taehyung did not appreciate it. Not at all.

“I hate moving,” Taehyung muttered, dropping the heavy cardboard box with admittedly tremulous arms, soaking in the heavenly feeling of one of the many fans positioned around the room blasting cool air on his back. He yanked his headband off and ruffled the sweat-wet bangs of his newly blue-dyed hair. “There’s too much going back and forth and it takes forever to get settled.”

Jungkook huffed a laugh beside him. He too had beads of sweat across his forehead and dampening his hair. “Shouldn’t I be the one saying that?”

His own box was dropped unceremoniously on top of the one Taehyung had been hauling. Like every other box placed around the room of the apartment, both boxes were labeled in bold black sharpie. The bottom one read ‘Cameras, CD, DVD, Etc.’ while the top read ‘Gym Weights & Other’.

Needless to say, Taehyung preferred the tech box. It was still heavy, though. Taehyung wasn’t completely weak (grinding herbs in a mortar with his pestle built up at least some arm strength and stamina), but his soft tummy spoke for itself.

Heavy boxes and complaints aside, Taehyung wouldn’t change anything. Jungkook was finally moving in with him. The shifter and Jimin were switching places after Jimin, Yoongi and Hoseok had all finally confirmed they were dating (Taehyung had a sneaking suspicion the three had been dating for longer than they let on, but he let it be). Jimin would take Jungkook’s room in the apartment the younger had shared with Yoongi and Hoseok, and Jungkook would be taking the faerie’s place in Taehyung’s apartment. It was a win-win.

For Taehyung and Jungkook, that meant movies late at night, or whenever they wanted, and falling asleep together, curled up on the couch or in a blanket fort if they took the time to make one. It meant early morning cuddles and sleepy make outs. It meant unexpected nose boops, back hugs and kisses. It meant getting to spend at least a couple of hours everyday with the person the witch was sure was the love of his life. Taehyung could handle some heavy lifting if that was his reward.

But Taehyung still wanted to tease.

“Yeah, but I’m helping you, so I get to whine all I want,” he sniffed.

Jungkook laughed softly, his hand falling to rest on Taehyung’s hip, the weight soothing. The shifter looked almost apologetic. “You don’t have to help, Tae. I know you have potions commissions you need to work on, you don’t have to drop everything you’re doing. I can bring all these in while you’re worki-mmph.”

Taehyung shoved a finger against his lips.

“There’s no reason for you to be guilty over this. I’ve been improving, so my potions don’t take that long to make anymore. The commissions can wait. And I wouldn’t leave you to do all the hard work on your own, even if I’m not the biggest help.” Taehyung moved his finger away, posing to flex jokingly. At the bright, adorable laughter he received, he brought his hands to cup Jungkook’s jaw and give him a sweet peck.

Smiling against his lips, Jungkook melted, his shoulders slouching. He let out a tiny, affronted whine when Taehyung pulled away, dragging him back and catching their lips in another kiss. Taehyung couldn’t help his muffled laugh, wrapping one arm over Jungkook’s shoulder, fingers dipping in the younger’s black hair, and the other hand staying put, his thumb rubbing at the shifter’s jaw soothingly. They both pointedly ignored the gross sheens of sweat that covered their skin.

Jungkook sighed against his lips. When they pulled apart, he leaned forward, nuzzling into his boyfriend’s neck. Taehyung hummed, warmth fizzling pleasantly in his limbs.

“I don’t care if you aren’t the strongest,” Jungkook mumbled offhandedly. “You being with me is all I need.”

Fond, fond, fond. Taehyung loved this boy.

“I’ll hold you to that,” Taehyung murmured, earning a small smile.

They sat, comfortable in their joined embrace, until the elder tapped Jungkook on the nose. “Tell you what. We’ll go down to the car, get a box each and bring them up. Then if you’ll get the last two, I’ll make tea and order us dinner. Deal?”

Jungkook grinned. He pressed a hard peck to the dark freckle on Taehyung’s cheekbone. “Deal.”

Taehyung set the big container of sugar on the counter, knocking the base cabinet closed with his hip. Resting against the counter, he slid his phone out of his pocket, thumbing through the screen to open the music app. He picked ‘Songs,’ then hit the shuffle button, letting his entire music library play at random. His phone discarded to sit by the sink, he meandered over to check on the tea bags in the mugs.

He’d just finished stirring sugar into his own tea and putting the container away when strong arms wrapped around his waist. Taehyung let out a soft breath, leaning back blissfully against the the chest behind him. He already liked this living together thing.

He did wrinkle his nose at the sudden intruding, musky scent, though.

Groaning, Taehyung tried to fight his way out of his boyfriend’s grip. “Ugh, you smell disgusting, Kookie. And you’re all damp.”

Jungkook chuckled. “You’re just as sweaty and gross, it’s just dried,” he defended.

Taehyung let out another groan. The farthest he could get was turning around in the younger’s grasp, so he did so, mock glaring. “It’s still disgusting,” he shot back.

Jungkook just shrugged, face nearly smug. “I never said it wasn’t.”

Taehyung scowled. “I’ll turn you into a frog,” he bluffed threateningly, squirming again.

The younger just raised an eyebrow. “I can do that on my own, babe, but thanks.”

The blue haired boy huffed, but shook his head, defeated without much of a fight.

They stood close together, their tea partially forgotten, just enjoying each other’s presence. At some point, Taehyung laid his hands against Jungkook’s chest and started slowly rocking back and forth to the music that still drifted from his phone speakers, his head falling to rest on the slope of Jungkook’s shoulders. The younger didn’t resist the movement, following with an ease that suggested he’d done so his entire life, not just the few years they’d been dating.

Jungkook’s hands instinctually settled on Taehyung’s hips, the touch more resting than holding, while Taehyung’s arms stayed wrapped around the younger’s shoulders, fingers fidgeting with the short, dark strands of hair at the nape of Jungkook’s neck.

They swayed side to side, moving gradually into the center of the room. Jungkook started to hum along to the voices coming through the speakers, and Taehyung soon enough joined him. High and low pitches met and mingled enthusiastically, yet twined with careful, complementary grace.

Like leaves floating to the ground, their mouths unhurriedly came together. Eyelashes fell to brush cheeks and fingers curled against skin. They pulled back, noses brushing, each peering at the eyes, nose, lips of the other, only for eyes to slide closed again as they slotted their lips back together, heads tilted for foreheads to meet, blue strands of hair brushing black.

It was so easy, just to let go and simply exist with Jungkook.

A soft sigh escaped Taehyung as they parted. His eyes stayed closed for a couple of seconds, just basking in the contentedness, before he slowly let them flutter open.

Jungkook’s eyes were already on him. The shifter gave him a slow, genuine smile when their gazes met. “My love.”

Something affectionate curled and tugged in Taehyung’s stomach. He leans forward and pressed his lips softly to Jungkook’s cheek. “Your love,” he whispered in reply, a confirmation.

The quiet remained for a while longer, neither of them in any rush to break the mood as they swung side to side.

“Lovers dance when they’re feeling in love,” Jungkook suddenly crooned, loud and overly dramatic, Taehyung falling into hushed peels of laughter in response.

“That poor song is criminally underrated,” he giggled.

Jungkook smiled. “Wanna play it?”

Taehyung was already reaching for his phone. “Hell yes.”

Notes:

The other song mentioned was ”All About Us” by He Is We ft. Owl City.

I figured some fluff was a good idea, because the next fic I have planned for this series is a bit more... angsty. Keep an eye out for it.

I hope you enjoyed! If you’d like to, comment and let me know your thoughts ♡
