Work Text:

Non-stop.

The battle has been going on since dusk. Few more hours, the sun's about to rise again. The majority of all students that participated the battle against the villains were gathered inside an empty city hall, along with some innocent citizens that were caught up in the chaos.

Momo can tell. There were apparently more wounded. Even she barely made it to the safe zone. She received a pretty number of cuts and bruises all over her exposed skin, those were either due to battling against the evil guys or from overusing her quirk. Her ears were still ringing from an explosion that almost caught her. She's nauseous and feeling like the earth beneath her was turning upside down.

But she was lucky that she's still alive.

"Momo," she felt a hand on her shoulders. She looked up and saw Jirou's sympathetic look.

She turned to her, "Where's Shouto?"

Behind Jirou, she can see that almost everybody from their class was there. Wounded, but alive. At least they were there. Only one person was missing though. Then, Momo's heart dropped.

"He...We can't find—"

Jirou wasn't able to finish her sentence because Momo was already storming her way towards the exit of the building. Her mind was racing faster than her feet. She pushed through a number people, not minding her bruises and bloody arms at all.

Shouto hasn't come back yet. He's still out there. Probably alone. Why wasn't anyone minding to go and find him? He could still be fighting out there on his own. What if he's hurt? But she knew that Shouto was strong. Too strong for her, or for anyone else. He won't simply give up a fight.

That's why Momo’s still believing..

He's alive. And she will make it to where he is. She can't lose him now, can she? He promised that he will tell her everything, how he truly felt, when this chaos was over. She's holding on to that. That's why, of all people, Shouto must come back.

"Yaoyorozu, stop!" Iida appeared before her, effectively stopping her from taking anymore step.

Momo clenched her jaws, "Iida...get out of the way..."

"You are in no shape to go out there. Eraserhead told us to stand back."

"Iida, please..."

"I won't.”

Momo tried to calm herself down. She knew that arguing with the class president will not take them anywhere. That’s why she’s doing this on her own, “I need to go and find Shouto. Please, let me through.”

“No.”

“Iida--”

“You’re putting yourself into more dangerous situations! Please understand, Yaoyoro--”

Just then, another explosion erupted from the outside. It caused a huge blinding light and blew up the glass windows, sending everybody back. Momo stood up just in time when another wave of explosion hit their side of the building. Her eyes widened at a massive rock speeding its way towards her.

“MOMO!”

She was shoved to the side, hitting the ground so hard that her wounds throbbed in pain. She realized a thick layer of ice began forming protectively over her, and somebody took the impact from the huge rock. She saw a glimpse of who the person was before he got thrown against the wall, creating a deep crater on it.
She slowly crawled out of the ice and craned her neck to look over her savior. Just then she caught another glimpse of red and white hair.
Her eyes widened. Her head slowly twisted to look back at the ice. No… it can’t be…

“Momo!”

She heard her name and she knew it came from one of her classmates. But she didn’t care. Her feet acted on their own and ran towards her savior. She stopped, kneeling before him. Momo’s hands trembled. He got sandwiched between the huge rock and the wall, plus more debris that came from the ceiling.

Her voice cracked, “S-Shouto…”

His eyes won’t open. They didn’t even flutter for once. Momo called for him once more, afraid she won’t get an answer again. “Sh-Shouto…” And still.

A wave of panic attacked her veins. She pulled several random equipment out of her skin, anything that could lift the rock that was burdening Shouto underneath. She needed to get him out of there. She needed to hear him. He needed to speak to her. He can’t die right now. Forget those damn feelings. They can talk about it after this chaos was done. All she ever wanted now was to see him open his eyes to her.

After few more attempts, Momo ran out of lipids in her body. The more she’d pull something out of her skin, she’d only get weaker and weaker. Momo felt her body starting to get heavy. Her eyesight blurred. She stumbled as she reached out for Shouto’s still unconscious body.

Then came a voice. It was weak but Momo suddenly felt alive.

“M-Momo…”

His one eye was barely open, looking up at her. His one hand that didn’t get crushed between the debris started twitching, desperate to hold onto something.

“Sho--”

Momo was cut off when a mountain of ice began forming between Shouto’s body and the rock, pushing the rock off of him. Now that he’s free, she immediately but carefully pulled him out of the mess. She placed him on a safer ground and laid him there. His breathing was slow and shallow. And his eyes were threatening to close again.

Her trembling hands cupped his own bloody ones, “No, Shouto, stay with us. You’re still alive. We’ll get you help immediately. Just… just don’t close your eyes please.”

Momo was afraid once again when he didn’t answer. Momo tightened her grip on his hands and shouted, desperately, “Shouto!”

She studied his face, hoping for a small change in his expression. Hot tears began streaming down her cheeks. Hopeless. His hands, she wanted to hold onto them longer. She wanted him to know that she can’t allow him to go. He can’t leave this world yet. Momo closed her eyes as sobs started coming out of her lips.

“Stop crying… please.”

Her eyes flew open, “Shouto!”

His hands squeezed hers in response. His eyes were still close, but his lips quiver as he struggled for words, “Yeah, I get it… Now, stop crying, Momo.”

Momo cried even harder. Not because she was sad, but because her prayers has been heard, “You’re alive.”

“Yes, I am,” he smiled warmly, opening an eye to look at her. He brought a hand and placed them on her tear-stained cheeks, “I’m glad you’re fine too.”

Her head lowered down, “Why did you do that?”

“You were… you were looking for me, weren’t you?”

At this, Shouto finally opened his eyes. Slowly but surely. Momo can’t help the smile of relief on her face. She wanted to make sure that when he sees her again, she’s smiling. Shouto once told her that her smiles were brighter than all the stars combined, and he would fight with whatever it takes to protect that smile.

He absolutely deserved it more than anything right now.

Their eyes met.

Hers glistened with moisture that she’s been holding. The waterworks broke out, along with the loud beating within her chest.

His reflected the glistening from hers. He was happy, to be within her grasp, to be within her warmth. He thought about the promise he made to her. He tried to speak. But he was too weak to even try.

But he sure felt his heart leaping out of his chest when Momo suddenly brought their bodies together. Her arms snaked around him. It was so tight that Shouto has no choice but embrace her as well. It hurt his wound, but he knew this hug was the only thing that could heal his heart.

“When we get back home, you have to take me to a dinner date and pay for our meal,” Momo said against his neck, “You made me worry.”

“I would absolutely love that.”
