The Stars Aligned

Summary:

God, they're so glad that things happened in the way that it let them know each other.

Work Text:

They had been dating for four months now, but Sero never got tired of looking at that pretty face of his. The way the bridge of his nose dipped before forming the most perfect nose he had never seen, the profile of his lips looking better than ever in the dim lighting of Kaminari’s treehouse. He could feel his fit perfectly between his own, and he gave the boy’s hand a gentle squeeze, which he quickly returned.

“You good, Hanta?” Kaminari turned his head to look at him, bangs brushing against the SuperMario themed blanket underneath them. God, he looked stunning .

“Better than ever,” he said with a slow, soft smile. He turned his attention from Kaminari’s face to the stars above them. Neither he nor the other boy knew who had made this secret hideout of theirs (Kaminari had found it one day when he was younger), but it felt like it was made with them in mind. There was a small hole in the roof, probably the reason for abandonment in the first place, but with a tarp and some of Sero’s handy tape it was no problem at all. Plus, it made for great stargazing on nights like this.

“Me too.”

They sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, the only sound between them being their own breathing and heartbeats, linked by their joined hands. The silences between them had never, not once, been uncomfortable, even when they were just friends. Their exchanges were never awkward, and Sero found that he never wanted out of any of them like he did with others.

As they laid there in those few minutes, Sero thought about all the friends he had made in the past few years at this school. Kirishima, Bakugou, Jirou, Mina -- and most of all, Denki Kaminari. He recalled that coming here, coming to U.A., was very on the fence for him. His quirk wasn’t a usual one, and most people didn’t see its many different uses (past fixing things), which made it hard for Sero to reach out and ask people for help when it came to training. He was afraid that they would laugh at him, to which he would have responded with laughing, too. When people laughed at him, which they often did throughout Elementary and Middle school, all he could do was laugh with them. Back then, the only weapon and protection that he had was that smile of his.

But against all odds, he had managed to train himself to get to a point where he felt like he could take the entrance exam. And against even more odds he had gotten in. Now here he was, with the love of his life, feeling on top of the world under a sky full of stars.

“Hey, Denki?” Hanta’s voice rang out in the silence, a welcome sound that only deepened the relaxing atmosphere.

“Yeah?”

“What do you think would have happened if I had never come to U.A.?”

“W-what?” Denki turned his body so that he was lying on his side, wearing a worried expression. His fingers tightened around Hanta’s in a way that brought Hanta down from the stars and back to Earth. “What made you think about that?”

“I was just thinkin’ --”

“As you are known to do,”

“-- about how slim my chances were about getting in. And how I considered not even applying in the first place,” before he knew it Sero was rambling, “and how if I had never gotten in I would have never met you, or Kiri, or Mina, and --”

Hanta’s silence was only granted by the feeling of Kaminari’s soft lips on his own.

“Hanta…” Kaminari sounded worried, and Hanta was angry that even though his vision was filled by Denki’s eyes he couldn’t focus on them because of the thoughts swimming around in his head.

“I know, I know. But like, hear me out --”

“No. I will not be hearing you out,” Kaminari wore a small, crooked grin on his face, “you wanna know why?”

“I feel like I don’t really have a choice, so yes.”

“Because that didn’t happen,” he squeezed Sero’s hand once again, like he was trying to get his point through to him, “because you’re here, and so am I, and things happened in a way that made that possible.”

“I know, but --”

“No buts. We should stop the what ifs and appreciate that things happened in a way that let me be with you.”

That pulled at Sero’s heartstrings, and he felt tears start to rise in his throat. People called Kaminari dumb, that he was someone who wouldn’t know good advice if it bit him in the ass. They teased him, and Denki always accepted that teasing with a smile and a laugh -- not so different from how Sero used to. While Kami wasn’t the most intelligent person, Sero wouldn’t dare call him dumb. The others didn’t know him as well as he did, they didn’t know the way he had with words, and how what he said could move mountains in the same way they made him feel like the only guy in the world.

Sero lifted his head up, meeting Kaminari’s lips with his own in a gentle kiss.

“I love you, Denki Kaminari.”

“And I love you, Hanta Sero.”
