Work Text:

SPRING

Spring was the season of new beginnings. Hoseok always loved taking walks in the park during spring, weaving his and Yoongi’s hands together and dragging him around to admire every new flower he saw, never picking any because he didn't want to kill them, but crouching down with the cutest smile and naming and dedicating every flower to Yoongi.

He may have got slightly winded from all the rushing around, and the skyrocketing amounts of pollen made hay fever a nightmare, but Yoongi loved their walks in the park, he loved seeing the soft smile and he loved how Hoseok’s eyes lit up as he looked over at Yoongi and declared the flower was his and only his.

Everytime when Spring arrived, Hoseok would always start his spring cleaning, usually dragging Yoongi into the efforts, a roughly week long affair that included a massive clearout of junk, organising of cupboards, and rearranging all the furniture in Hoseok’s apartment, (then some years later, their apartment).

Yoongi usually hated spring cleaning, thinking it was a massive waste of effort when you could just keep on top of things throughout the whole year instead, but he loved seeing how proud Hoseok was when he stood back and admired the end result of their hard work. He loved that Hoseok would always press an appreciative kiss to his cheek afterwards.

SUMMER

Hot weather was usually Yoongi’s worst enemy. He disliked being sweaty, disliked how 90% of his wardrobe only made the heat more unbearable and disliked how his skin burnt so easily under the sun. But Hoseok would still hold his hand, even if they were both sweating enough to fill a small pool, and he would take Yoongi to the beach and buy them both ice cream and after Hoseok found them a nice shady spot so that Yoongi wouldn't burn, they would sit and just enjoy each other's company.

Yoongi loved that Hoseok would always use his right hand to hold Yoongi’s hand, even though it made eating ice cream so much more difficult with just his left hand, no matter how much Yoongi insisted he should let go and use his right instead. Yoongi loved that Hoseok put effort into making Yoongi as comfortable as possible.

When they lived separately, Yoongi’s apartment had the better AC, so the warm weather always brought Hoseok with it, knocking at Yoongi’s door with a small smile and two pints of ice cream. They'd end up moving the couch to the coolest spot in the room and laying in the cool air.

Yoongi loved waking up the next morning, Hoseok’s arms wrapped around his waist, their legs tangled together, the cool air from the AC letting them stay close despite the heat.

AUTUMN

Autumn was one of Yoongi’s favourite seasons. It brought relief from the heat, scary movies, and a valid excuse to eat stupid amounts of candy. The buildup to Halloween was the best part in his opinion, every year he carved pumpkins, and every year without fail, Hoseok would carve a cat face into one and proudly name it Yoongi. He would pretend to be annoyed but put at the front of their display anyway.

What he loved most was the happy grin on Hoseok’s face as he held the carved pumpkin up, carefully as he could and loudly announced the name even though it was just the two of them, standing so close their shoulders were pressed together. He loved seeing the smile on Hoseok's face when he saw his pumpkin leading the display.

Scary movies weren't Yoongi’s favourite at all , but watching one always meant that Hoseok would end up clinging onto him for most of the duration of every movie, and he'd usually fall asleep hugging onto Yoongi, claiming he wanted to keep him close to ‘protect him’.

Yoongi just loved that Hoseok would never jump on the chance to watch something not scary if Yoongi offered, claiming it wasn't in the Halloween spirit to wimp out, even though Yoongi knew he would if he was with anybody else.

WINTER

In Yoongi’s honest opinion, snow was hell. It was wet, cold, got in the way of an easy life, made driving dangerous and he'd seen videos of avalanches and was deathly afraid of being suffocated or trapped under tons of snow. But snowmen with Hoseok made snow bearable, or sometimes (no, always ) fun. They'd spend hours rolling the snow into balls, finding stones for buttons and eyes, and Yoongi would donate his scarf, Hoseok would donate his hat and they'd each donate a glove to clothe the snowman. They'd stand back and admire them, Hoseok would name them (One year he'd named one Groot), and then their standing and admiring would deteriorate into a snowball fight. Which would end with them making snow angels, and Yoongi reusing the same line about Hoseok always being an angel (somehow, year after year Hoseok would still blush bright red (which he always insisted was because he was freezing cold)) and they would go back indoors to cuddle under a mountain of blankets, watch Christmas movies and regain their body heat.

After meeting Hoseok, snow changed from one of Yoongi's most hated things, to one of his favourite things, although he'd never admit it. To anyone besides Hoseok. (Except Hoseok told everyone.)

With their first Christmas together, Yoongi had worried himself sick. He'd panicked about meeting Hoseok’s parents the following day, buying the right gift, his cooking not being good enough (which he didn't even need to worry about because he'd been roommates with Seokjin at the time and he’d had kicked him out the moment he saw Yoongi worrying (“In this state you’d be more of a liability than a help,” he'd said, shoving him towards the door.)). But his worrying had been in vain. Hoseok had just held mistletoe over their heads the moment they saw each other and they'd spent the rest of their day with their best friends.

Yoongi had first realised he was in love with Hoseok on their first Christmas together; he loved everything about him. From the way he'd hold Yoongi’s hand no matter what, to his spring cleaning habits, to the way even just his presence would make Yoongi happy. Yoongi was in love, and he was glad to be in it with Hoseok.

Because the seasons may have changed, but Hoseok never did.
