Chapter Text

It was a perfectly normal day. The sun was shining, the blue hue of the sky peeking over fluffy, white clouds. The smell of cinnamon wafted from his dad's bakery, and he smiled at his mom.

"Come on, mommy! We're going to go see daddy!"

Inko smiled at him, practically being pulled into the small building. She loved his tiny round face, and the way it shone brightly when he smiled.

The bakery was fairly small, tiny trees and flowers planted around it from Inko's flower shop. A small pond to the right was spotted with young ducklings, the air being filled with their noises. The small pea gravel crunched beneath their shoes, and their laughter practically drowned out the ducks. Izuku reached the large oak door, straining at trying to push it open. She chuckled, quickly pushing on the door, and it gave with a loud creak.

      "Hisashi, we're here!"

A man covered in flour ran out of the kitchen, his curly green hair quivering as he moved quickly. He was holding a tray delicately in his hands, a dozen cinnamon rolls laid out on top of it. He quickly set it down on a table, and Izuku ran over, hugging his leg. The man gave a hefty chuckle, reaching down and grabbing Izuku. The small boy looked shocked as his dad threw him into the air, catching him.

"My beautiful wife and son are here! Thank you for coming out, Inko!"

She smiled, running up to him and catching him in a hug. They held each other for a couple minutes, before releasing. A small Izuku looked up at them, his smile brightening the room even further.

"I made cinnamon rolls for all of us! Please, sit, let's eat!"

They all smiled and laughed, talking about their days. Izuku was more focused on the pond outside, watching the small bobbing ducks in the crystal water. He loved the way nature looked and felt, even at such a young age.

        "Mommy! Can I go outside?"

The dark green haired woman laughed, smiling. "Of course you can, Izu!"

He jumped out of the small booth, quickly running outside to observe the ducks. He watched as they dipped their heads beneath the water, and shook themselves off. He looked around, finding more animals to interact with.

A small rabbit in particular peaked his interest, and he slowly walked towards it. It was at the far end of the bakery fence, sitting in a bed of tulips. As he approached, it looked more and more frightened, camouflaging itself by stuttering to a complete stop. He smiled brightly at the creature, pulling a piece of cinnamon roll from his pocket. He gently placed it at a small distance from the rabbit, backing up. Even though he was young, he knew when something was scared.

Reluctantly, the rabbit stepped towards the cinnamon roll, gently beginning to nibble at it. He smiled at the creature, sticking another piece out in his hand. The rabbit sniffed at him, deciding he wasn't a threat. It began to eat out of the palm of his hands. The messy-haired boy began to pet the rabbit, scratching between its ears.

After the rabbit finished, it hopped away, disappearing behind the other side of the fence. The boy bobbed his head, running back towards the bakery, an even larger smile on his face.

"Mommy! Daddy! I fed a rabbit!" He sung, struggling against the door. His parents looked at him from the booth, smiling and laughing.

"That's great, Izu! I'm happy you're enjoying yourself!" Inko expressed, smiling at the bright boy. "Hisashi, meet us back at the apartment, and please don't stay here all night!"

The older man nodded, his stray hairs bouncing while he did. "Of course, Inko. I'll be home in a couple hours, promise. In the meantime, you better not be overworking yourself with gardening!" They share a laugh, Izuku still smiling brightly at the two of them. His dad smiled warmly, wrapping up the remaining cinnamon rolls for them.

Hisashi waved as they drove off, quickly disappearing from the young boy and mother's sight. They smiled, laughed, and talked on the way home, especially about rabbits. When they arrived home, they quickly got inside, tired after a busy day. Izuku took a nap on the couch, and Inko smiled at him.

"He's such a bright child... I'm sure he'll go far!" She muttered quietly, making sure not to wake him.

She looked towards the stove, as she looked towards the glowing clock. The clock read '10:00 PM', to which she frowned. She grabbed Izuku, who was still napping, and moved him to his bedroom, the floor creaking as she moved down the hallway. After she tucked him in for bed, she slowly stood up, stretched, and grabbed her phone. She walked to the living room, and called Hisashi. She was met with the familiar voicemail.

"Hello! You've reached the personal phone of Hisashi Midoriya. I couldn't make it to the phone, so please, leave a message!"

"Hisashi, you promised you'd be home tonight. I know that you're caught up in work, but please, come home tonight. I miss you, so much."

A sharp click, and she turned her phone off, walking to the couch. After she sat down, she practically melted into the couch, the strain on her bones from being bent over, digging and planting flowers, slowly released.

She dozed off, leaning on the arm rest of the couch.

The sun rose, the beams of light slowly stretching into the apartment. Orange, pink, and red tones made themselves known, and Inko tiredly opened her eyes. The living room basked in the morning light, the glass reflecting the beautiful morning sunrise. She sighed, turning upright and stretching. She blinked a couple of time, slowly waking up. The dark green haired mother walked towards the kitchenette, slowly beginning to make pancakes, yawning the entire time.

Izuku poked his head out of his room, running to his mother, wrapping around her leg. Inko giggled, putting the boy on her shoulders while he worked. The pancake batter slowly took form, and soon, there were a dozen golden-brown pancakes sitting on her kitchen table on a plate. She dusted the pancakes with powdered sugar, grabbing the syrup and butter. Izuku hurriedly jumped down, running over to the kitchen table. She smiled at him, grabbing him a smaller pancake, and pouring some syrup over it.

The two laughed as they shared a breakfast, Inko talking about their plans for the day. Inko's eyes shot wide open, remembering that her fiancé was still at the bakery. She sighed, pulling out her phone. There we no texts, nor any calls, and she frowned, thinking to herself.

"Normally he at least texts me in the morning..."

She turns back to Izuku, smiling. "You want to go to your dad's bakery again, Zuk?", to which he smiles. "Of course, mommy! I love seeing daddy, and maybe I can see the bunny again!" She laughed at his enthusiasm, slowly getting up and washing their dishes. After which, she grabbed him, carrying him to the car. Even if she was upset with Hisashi for not coming home, she was still just as enthusiastic to see him.

When they reached the bakery, Inko wasn't sure what to say.

The bakery was covered in do-not-cross police tape, the windows smashed. Inko looked towards it in a horrified shock.

"Izu... Stay in the car for a minute... Mommy's gonna go find Daddy, okay?" The small boy nodded, though visibly frowning. She exited the car, quietly closing the door. A small police unit was there, so she quickly walked up to the chief of what seemed to be an investigation.

        "H-Hey... What happened here, officer?"

The tall man turned towards her, a large frown on his face.

"I can't tell you if you aren't related."

She pointed to the ring on her finger. "I'm... I'm his fiancé... Please..."

The officer nodded, "The man who owns this store was murdered in a robbery attempt last night. The robber wasn't caught, but it appears he did indeed use his quirk. The damage to Hisashi Midoriya's body was too severe to be caused by normal fighting. Several samples of cloth came back burnt, we believe that he burned a slight bit of the robber, but not enough to save him. Most of the damage appears to be physical, so it most likely was a reinforcement-type quirk. My condolences for you, and apologies for your loss."

The rest of the car trip home was silent, aside from the occasional sob from Inko.

"Izuku is too young to understand the loss of life, what do I make up as an excuse...? Maybe... Maybe a business trip. I'll tell him when he's 10. It'll be better of me as a parent to hide this from him for now."

They reached the apartment, time seemingly at a standstill for Inko. She wasn't ready for her future husband to be gone, and the small things he did for her. The love they shared was deep, and now he was gone. A lot would change for her in the coming months, and coming years. She sobbed again, loud enough for Izuku to hear.

        "Mommy? What's wrong? Where's daddy?"

Her heart dropped. She had been hoping that he wouldn't ask. She wasn't ready to lie to him just yet, but it seemed she had no choice.

"Izu... Daddy won't be back for a while, okay? He's on a business trip to America... You'll see him again, but it might be a while!"

The curly haired boy looked at his mother, a smile to match her teary one. "Okay, mommy! We'll have to wait for him to get back!" This warranted another sob out of Inko, and she quickly hugged the boy, smiling. "Yeah, we'll just have to wait for your dad to come back..."

The sun began to set, and Inko tucked her son in to his bed. She retreated to her bedroom, slowly laying in the now-empty-bed. She watched the window, watching the suns rays turn into a prism of colors. She finally released, letting herself cry into her pillow. Eventually, she fell asleep, falling apart on the bed.
