Work Text:

Un was beginning to think he was cursed. Every crush he ever had always liked someone else.

And Un wasn’t talking about the inevitable suspicion that a crush likes someone else, no, it was almost always official. Un had even known the great pain of their crush actually confessing to him they like someone else, while he suffered in silence.

With Too, it was just the same.

At first, Un thought he was just seeing things. Too and Third were just friends, really close friends… doing basically everything together.

At this point, they were basically attached at the hip: they saw each other multiple times a day, always did homework together, watched movies together, hung out at each other’s apartments…

Un was pretty close to Shane, but he would never see him as often as Too saw Third.

It was so obvious too, in the way he looked at Third, like an enamored puppy with big brown eyes. Un loved those eyes, except when they looked at Third the way Un looked at Too.

It really hurt because Un didn’t have the courage to confess either. It was another curse in and of itself, Un’s inability to express his feelings to anyone he ever liked. And knowing Too already liked someone else didn’t encourage him to confess.

Turned out, Too sort of forced it onto him.

It happened during a party all the Communication Arts students were invited to. They threw a lot of party in that university, which was often Un’s only opportunity to see Too throughout the week.

That party really had nothing special, except that Khai and Third danced and kissed in front of everyone, shocking many people. Un felt bad for Too. He must have been heartbroken. Un definitely know how it felt.

Shortly after Khai and Third’s coming out, Un decided to leave. He couldn’t see Too being sad because of this, because he wouldn’t be able to comfort him.

Un was searching for his coat in the mountain of ones spread over Shane’s bed, when he realized someone was behind him.

He stopped breathing when he turned around to discover Too staring at him.

“Do you like Third, P’?” Too asked immediately, not even let him catch his breath.

Un was stunned. Him? Liking Third? He liked him as junior, sure. But as more than that? Never.

Un was now faced with his greatest nightmare: being confronted by the one he liked for liking the one his crush liked. Pretty confusing, said like that, uh? Un’s head hurt.

“You don’t need to answer,” Too continued when he didn’t answer. “I know you do. That’s why you’re leaving now that you know he’s with Khai.”

Un almost laughed hysterically. It was mad how things could get misconstrued like that.

“I don’t like Third,” he finally replied, voice shy. “You like Third. I’m sorry he’s with someone else.”

Too’s face became a mix of confused, offended and hilarity.

“Me, P’?” he said. “I don’t like Third. You like Third!”

Un started to feel annoyed at the situation. “No, I don’t. You do. I’ve seen it.”

“Well, I’ve seen that you liked Third!” Too exclaimed, voice echoing in Shane’s messy room.

“Too, I’m going to say it one last time: I truly don’t like Third,” Un declared, calmer. “I know you do, and it’s okay. I know what you must be going through, seeing him with someone else, but you’ll get over it.”

Too sighed, exasperated.

“P’! Stop saying that!” he shouted, looking hurt. “I don’t like Third, I like you!”

Un had to pause at that, eyes slowly widening. He felt his whole body start to shake a little.

Too was now staring at the ground, incapable of meeting his gaze, blushing furiously.

“You can’t… like me,” he finally said, voice wavering.

Too’s brows furrowed, Un could see it from under his bangs. “I do, P’.”

“It’s not possible,” he continued, feeling a little crazy. “I like you.”

Too’s head shot up, mouth agape. “What did you say?”

“I… like you,” he repeated.

He couldn’t believe he was just… saying it. He had never done that before. Though no one had ever liked him back before either.

While Too had initially looked euphoric at his confession, he was now looking hurt.

“You can’t like me, P’… you like Third.”

“Too!” He exclaimed, deeply irritated. “What makes you think I like Third? I don’t!”

“Well, you always try to spend as much time with him as possible… you joined the play so you could be alone with him, you go to the movies with him, you look at him with heart eyes...”

“Heart eyes?” Un puffed. “That’s what you do with him.”

Too looked disgusted. “P’, don’t say weird things. Third is my best friend, nothing more. I never had feelings for him.”

They fell silent for a while, both incapable of looking at each other.

“So… you really don’t like Third?” Too questioned, seemingly having changed his mind.

“No!” he replied. “And you don’t like him either?”

Too got a little red. “I already told you, P’. I like you.”

Oh, right. Too liked him back. Un started to feel a little ecstatic, bold.

“Well, I like you too.”

They were both smiling now, standing a few feet apart while the rest of the world was making noise.

“Then let’s date, P’,” Too simply said.

Let’s date, Un’s mind repeated. It was as simple as that.

Un had crushed on him for months and thought he would never in a million years reciprocate it. Now, he suddenly did. And he wanted to date him. It felt like a dream.

“Just like that?” he couldn’t help but ask.

Too seemed surprised. “Well, I like you, and you like me. What else should we do?”

Explained like that, it felt normal.

“Well then, okay,” he barely spoke, mostly whispered.

He felt Too’s arms around him before he could see him, whole body against his, head fitting right under his chin, on his heart.

His hands went over his shoulders, bringing him even closer. Too’s hair smelled good, he noticed.

“I’m so happy,” Too murmured, head still buried against him.

“I can’t believe this, to be honest,” Un responded.

“Me neither.”

Too looked at him, head detaching from his chest. “I really thought you liked Third, P’,” he pouted.

Un felt the need to laugh. “Well, me too.”

“You’re really crazy,” he teased.

“And you aren’t?” he replied.

They were still hugging while staring at each other when the door opened.

It was Khai and Third, both definitely drunk, staring at them.

They both smiled and looked at each other in a secretive way.

“See? I told you they liked each other!” Khai exclaimed.

Third rolled his eyes. “I was the one who told you that, you didn’t believe me.”

“Well, you see, I was right!”

Third hit his forehead with a smile. “Dumbass. I was right.”

They stumbled to find their coats and left, leaving both Un and Too stunned.

“So… we were obvious?” Too mumbled.

“To anyone but us?” Un continued.

“P’…” Too smiled shyly. “I feel dumb.”

“I… do too.”

And as they laughed, Un realized he had already forgotten about the days he thought Too liked Third. No, Too liking him made sense. Maybe Un wasn’t cursed, in the end.
