Chapter Text
It was a typical day in school and Yuuichirou was just minding his own business, thinking it will be another one of his usual days. He was walking down the aisles of the school building when all of a sudden, something hit him. Hard. On his back. He fell down after he collided with that something and he was about to scream profanities at the offending object but when he opened his eyes; he saw that it wasn’t a thing that hit him. It was a person. He didn’t notice it earlier because apparently; he was just idly daydreaming while walking.
He blinked once. Twice. Green met blue. Yuuichirou stared at the vivid sapphire orbs in front of him. He gawked at him. Then, realization hit him.
‘Mika’
“You can have your guardian sign most of those forms.” the woman explained as she threw more and more papers at him. Transferring was an irritating process and Mikaela wasn’t so thrilled about doing it all over again. This was the third school he had been to in the last year; he only hoped it would be his last.
They gave his schedule and some directions around the school before the woman left him on his own to find his way himself. He was quickly regretting not having brought a larger bag as much of the materials they gave him couldn’t fit in his little messenger bag.
“Fuck this…” he sighed, deciding to just carry the remaining materials. It was already the middle of the school day by the time he had finished signing in. The halls were completely empty, and the school was eerily quiet.
Mikaela wasn’t familiar with the halls and found himself wandering aimlessly in an attempt to find his first class. Mikaela was struggling to hold all the things the guidance counsellor had given him, many of the papers slipping from his grip as he walked.
Mikaela rounded a blind corner, looking down at all the paperwork and attempting to straighten it out when he ran into somebody. He had expected no one to be in the halls and of course ran into them at full speed.
He yelped as they both collided with the floor, Mikaela’s things flying throughout the hall. He froze in place though when he saw the person below him. It was a boy with emerald green eyes and wild black hair.
“I’m… I’m sorry,” he muttered, a little dazed. This person seemed somehow familiar… maybe they went to one of his previous schools?
It took Mikaela a moment to completely snap out of it and begin gathering all the scattered papers. “Ah, I’m really sorry. I should have been looking where I was going.” He said much louder this time. “I hope you aren’t hurt.”
Yuu heard Mika the first time he apologized but he wasn’t able to immediately give a reply because he was too stunned to say anything to him. He felt a lot of mixed emotions welling up inside him; mostly surprise, but he also felt anger and pain. Not physical pain though. It’s the emotional type of pain that’s currently making his heart ache so much. He longed to see him again but he didn’t expect that he’ll meet him in this manner.
“Ah, no. It’s okay Mi…” Yuu stopped himself just on time. He knew that if he’ll suddenly blurt out Mika’s name out of the blue, Mika will most probably find him totally creepy. After all, this is like, their ‘first meeting’ but Yuu knew better than that. He longed to be reunited with Mika again. Nevertheless, he managed to hold his tongue and pretend that he doesn’t know Mika. “…My bad,” he croaked.
“I’m fine.” He continued speaking and stood up then patted the dust off his jeans. After he cleaned himself, he also started to pick up the scattered papers.
He noticed that Mika was about to refuse his help but he shushed him on time and insisted that he’ll help him.
After he gathered the remaining papers, Yuu awkwardly handed them to Mika and only mouthed “Here” to him. He felt very tense around the blond. For obvious reasons, he also felt giddy for seeing him again.
“By the way, I’m Yuuichirou Amane. A-and you are?” He fidgeted in his place while he introduced himself. Of course, he is already aware of Mika’s name. In fact, he even remembers all of the family names that Mika had used in their past lives. He’s just that obsessed with him.
Yuu sincerely hoped that Mika didn’t find it weird that he stammered a bit.
Mikaela blinked, a little confused at this strangers friendliness although it wasn’t unwelcome. “Nice to meet you Yuuichirou, I’m Mikaela Shindou.” he said with a small smile, still struggling to hold all the papers in his arms.
Mikaela struggled to offer his hand to this boy so they could shake hands, nearly dropping the papers all over again. “Ah… Sorry, I’m kind of clumsy.” he apologized with a sheepish smile when he failed to extend his hand. He thought a moment before adding.
“Actually, I’m new here and uhm could use some help finding my class.” He admitted with a light blush, it was a little embarrassing how lost he had become in the rather tiny school.
“No. I mean, yes, I’m also glad to meet you Mika… I mean, Mikaela. Just Yuu is fine. Yuuichirou is too long,” Yuu berated himself in his mind. He can’t help it but stutter because he felt totally nervous around Mika. He’s not sure how to properly interact with him because this situation is too sudden. He never expected that he’ll find Mika this fast in this particular timeline.
When Yuu saw that Mika is gesturing for a handshake, he also outstretched his own arm but when he saw that Mika almost dropped the papers, he offered to help him carry some of those. “Just give me half of it so that you won’t have to be too burdened to carry it all by yourself.”
After he heard Mika say that, he also felt flustered. Not because of Mika’s situation but instead, it’s because he saw Mika’s slightly flushed face. ‘He’s still as cute as ever’
Yuu snapped out of his trance then cleared his throat and turned his gaze away from Mika in order to hide the blush that’s spreading on his face. “Sure. I’ll gladly help. What’s the subject and what room number is it?” he replied.
Mikaela flushed at the nickname, he had never been given a nickname before. “N-No Mika… Mika is alright. Can I call you Yuu-chan then?” He knew he was probably acting strange but he already wanted to be close to this person.
“Ahhh… yeah, that would be nice thank you.” Mikaela nodded and gave Yuu some of the papers. When he was handing them to Yuu their hands brushed and he jumped at the rush of energy he felt.
‘Wow, his hands are really soft.’ Mikaela thought with a heavy blush.
“Of course uh…” Mikaela reached into pocket taking out the crumpled schedule and handing it to Yuu.
Yuu’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing Mika’s endearing nickname. He reminisced the rare times wherein the blond called him in that manner. He missed those. A lot. “That honorific is usually for girls… But I don’t mind,” he beamed a smile at Mika. ‘…If it’s you who’ll call me that’ He murmured as an afterthought in his mind.
“You’re welcome Mika!” he enthusiastically replied. When their hands brushed, Yuu’s heart hammered in his chest. ‘Calm down Yuu! He only accidentally touched your hand!’ Yuu flailed in his thoughts.
Yuu accepted the paper then he looked over at the schedule. He skimmed through it then after a while, he found the proper information he needed in order to determine the building and classroom of Mika’s next subject.
“We’re in the wrong building…” He laughed a little when he realized that Mika is indeed, lost. It wasn’t a laugh made out of mockery, though. He loved Mika too much to mock him.
Mika flushed at the new information, “Ah… That explains why after wandering for a good 20 minutes I couldn’t find anything,” Mika admitted sheepishly.
They both began to walk, Yuu leading. “So… if you don’t mind me asking why aren’t you in class? I haven’t run into anyone until I literally ran into you,” Mika asked.
Yuu stopped in his tracks upon hearing Mika’s words. Guilt crept up to him. He let out an awkward laugh while lightly scratching the back of his head. “I’m sorry. I skipped class today.” he reasoned out while he kept on fidgeting in place.
He lowered his gaze to the ground, slightly ashamed of the fact that his first impression with Mika will most probably sound bad. He doesn’t want to look bad in front of him. But he had already messed up during their first meeting.
Mika was confused as to why Yuu was apologizing to him. “Why are you sorry? I’m sure you had your reasons and I mean if you weren’t I’d probably never have found my way to class,” he chuckled, giving the other boy a bright smile.
Yuu still hadn’t moved from his spot though and seemed to be staring at Mika in awe. “Is everything alright? I mean… We don’t know each other but… But if you wanted to talk I’d be willing to listen.” Mika added in concern. Yuu seemed like a nice person he hadn’t freaked out when Mika ran into him and even offered him help.
Yuu doesn’t know how to react to Mika’s words. It left him flabbergasted. He turned his gaze towards Mika and stared at him. He continued to gawk at him and didn’t say anything. Yuu thought that Mika is still as kind and gentle as ever. He felt really lucky to be with him in every timeline but he still felt sad that he never had the opportunity to properly interact with him in their past lives.
Before, he was Yuu’s teacher. There was also a time wherein Mika was a distant relative to him. There was even one time when Mika was his biological elder brother.
He recalled all of those memories he had with Mika and somehow it made him feel really melancholic.
‘I missed you.’
Yuu snapped out of his trance then he cleared his throat after he heard Mika’s next query and statement. “I… I’m fine. It’s just I have a lot in my mind right now. I’m sorry for that,” he apologized again. He didn’t mean to ignore Mika’s first question but he can’t think of a reason to explain why he apologized to him earlier.
Mika hummed in uncertainty, Yuu seemed upset about something. “Alright, if you say so but the offer still stands if you ever feel the need Yuu-chan.”
It took a moment but they both began walking again, Mika trailing close behind Yuu as he led him to his class. The silence between them bothered Mika much more than it should though and he found himself trying to make idle chit chat. “So uhm, what year are you?”
Yuu looked at Mika and nodded at his words. He still has his own qualms regarding that matter. After all, he doesn’t want Mika to know anything about his circumstances at any costs.
He stared at Mika for a little while longer then he resumed walking and so did Mika. Yuu wanted to break the ice because he felt too queasy with the uncomfortable silence between them. He didn’t know that Mika is in the same boat as him, but not as uncomfortable as him, though. “I’m in junior high, and you?”
Mikaela smiled, “Same year, maybe we will have some classes together.” Mikaela hummed hopefully as he followed Yuu through the halls.
Yuu nodded at Mika’s words. He turned his gaze back in front of him and continued to lead the way. A few minutes later, they exited the halls then went to a bare field and later on arrived in an old four-story building with a couple of huge trees on each side of the structure. Yuu held Mika’s hand when they arrived. “Sorry, I get a bit scared when I’m around this building. It’s rumored to be haunted,” he explained to the blond and then he cleared his throat while letting go of Mika’s hand in the process.
In reality, Yuu isn’t really scared and instead, he just wanted to hold Mika’s hand again, even in a brief time.
“Go up the stairs, to the third floor. The first room that you’ll see in the east wing is the room you’re looking for,” Yuu said to Mika.
“I’ll be on my way then.” he added as an afterthought while slowly backing away from Mika then he turned his back and began to walk away.
Mika followed Yuu throughout the campus, trying his best to make note of the route. As they approached a large building Yuu suddenly laced their hands together. Mika gave his acquaintance a questioning look before simply nodding to his explanation.
“Okay, thank you very much Yuu-chan,” Mika replied in a sing-song voice. Without giving him a chance to say goodbye Yuu turned and began walking away. “Ah wait!” Mika yelped, nearly dropping his things.
Yuu turned back, Mika trotted over to him with a sigh. “If you want to… Let’s be friends.” Mika offered, shifting his things so he could hold a hand out. “I’d like to see you again sometime Yuu-chan,” Mika gave Yuu a warm smile.
Yuu immediately stopped in his tracks when he heard Mika’s voice. His heart thumped loudly in his chest and he can feel a rush of adrenaline wash over him as he turned back to meet Mika’s gaze.
“I… I would love to be your friend.” He faintly smiled at the blond as he tried hard not to get too emotional over a simple friendship request from the person that he had admired the most from afar. He had spent countless times —in fact, lifetimes— trying not to fuck up every time he’s around the blond. He loved Mika too much.
The raven-haired male accepted Mika’s hand and firmly yet gently shook it.
“So… Umm… I should really get going now,” he tried to excuse himself because deep inside; even though he looks so unaffected outside, he’s on the verge of tears because finally… Mika is in the same year as him.
Mika nodded but before letting Yuu go he wrote his number on the back of Yuu’s hand. “Text me when you get the chance.” he smiled before going up the stairs and to his class.
While Mika scribbled his number on the back of Yuu’s hand, the raven-haired male owlishly blinked his eyes. He was too stunned to react anything so he just kept silent and instead gave out a short nod as a response.
When Mika was out of sight, he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He gently grazed his thumb on the part where Mika wrote his number. He kept blankly staring at it and remained silent for a good five minutes before letting out a victory screech.
“Heck yeah! I got his number!” He yelled at the top of his lungs then suddenly a teacher happened to pass by so he gently scolded Yuu about school etiquette.
Yuu apologized to the teacher and the after he received a response, he left with no further reprimands.
