“But I have to say that I’m surprised, All Might.” Todoroki Enji’s azure blue eyes went cold. Such an attractive man, yet so unpleasant to look at, you thought with a shiver. Endeavor’s power might be all about flames…but his glare could freeze people over and leave them to die.
“With your choice of a companion, that is. From all the women you could have at your arm right now, you pick her?”
“What about it?” Toshi’s voice remained level, friendly even. As if the other man’s ill-concealed disgust flew over his head.
You knew it didn’t. That was just the retired Symbol of Peace being perfectly polite. Upkeeping his spotless image.
Even to the boors who didn’t deserve it.
You could feel the muscles in his long, thin arm getting tense - the same arm that you’ve been indeed holding.
You gripped it a little tighter now. A fearful child’s clutch.
Endeavor sneered.
"You know what she is, right? Quirkless trash. And a one that sells its body at that."
You held your breath. How drunk was this man, exactly? How much did he want to make a scene, and at the annual Pro Hero Party at that?
Alcohol seemed to fuel his malice. But even without it, he struck you as the type that has plenty.
Suddenly you felt a soft touch brushing over your whitened knuckles. Toshi used his other hand to trace your own.
It was such a low-key gesture, yet it spoke volumes to you.
It said: Don’t worry. I’ve got this. With me at your side, you’re safe.
You let the air out.
Toshinori straightened himself to his whole impressive height – and when he did that, everyone else suddenly felt really insignificant.
Right now that included Todoroki Enji.
Your man stood tall, slender as an arrow, his pointy chin uplifted, those shadow-circled, lightning blue eyes boring a hole in Endeavor.
And then Toshi spoke; his voice ringing with such commanding resolve that you got goosebumps.
He was a tremendous actor. Depowered and emaciated, no matter; he’d always knew how to hold the stage.
"Ah, Todoroki-kun…but I know exactly who she is. She’s the woman I love and a miracle I don’t deserve."
Your jaw dropped in sync with Endeavor’s.
"Let’s go, dear", said Toshi in his regular, unassuming tone, held you close and spun on his feet, leaving the dumbfounded current No.1 Hero behind.
Something strange was happening to you; you couldn’t draw or release breath properly. Air was coming out of you in shuddering gasps.
"…Thank you", you panted, " for defending my honour."
You didn’t look at your companion. Didn’t dare.
"And also for taking down this fucking guy. You decimated him with just words!…"
Toshi chuckled.
"You’re welcome. I did go a bit overboard there, didn’t I? Wanted the message to be clear."
"Thanks", you said again with a stifled voice. And then broke down crying.
