Chapter Text
At one moment of his life, he was happy, he just graduated and got the most adorable graduating dog stuff toy and the matching earrings from the bracelet he got last Christmas from Jungkook.
At another, he was confused, hearing his mother saying they’ll fly and live in another country in 3 days’ time.
“Excuse me, what?” Jimin looks at his mother at disbelief, hoping that he heard his mother wrong. He was lying down on her mother’s bed, but immediately sat down when he finally processed what she said. He was here because he thought his mother just wanted to spend more time with her before she left, only to realize that wasn’t her intention.
“We’re moving to Georgia in a few days. Aren’t you excited? We’d finally be together again, and I’ll be there in all your achievements!” his mom exclaims while trying to figure out which clothes she’ll pack in her luggage.
His mom mumbles about how after all these years of her being away from Jimin.
Jimin has been living at his grandparents’ home for the past 5 years, since his mom decided to work overseas for his education and future.
Jimin still remembers the day his mom left, little 7-year-old Jimin crying and clinging to his mom, “Mom, please don’t go.” He sniffs. His mom just kneeled and hugged him tightly. “We’ll be together again soon, okay baby?” his mom assures before standing back up and walking towards the gate in the airport, waving and smiling at Jimin’s small self.
His mind suddenly wanders to the thought of his dad, because his mother wouldn’t have left if it wasn’t for him. If only he didn’t leave their family, if he didn’t go find another woman, maybe Jimin still had a complete family by now. His mother wouldn’t have to work away from him, not being able to be there for him when he needed him the most. Jimin has moved on from it, but it still stings every time he remembers it.
He snaps out of his trance when he heard his mom calling out his name.
“Jimin? Baby? Isn’t that fascinating?” his mom asks.
Jimin sighs, not being able to remember what his mom was mumbling about, “Oh, yeah. That’s, that’s great, mom.” He sadly replies. “I just remembered, uh, I have to, to uh, clean my room, yeah.” he tells as he excuses himself out of the room not giving his mom a chance to speak another word.
As Jimin walks to his room, his mind wanders, why did she only tell me this now? And in 3 days? I’m sure this has been planned for a long time, why tell me days before it? Didn’t she consider if I wanted to? And even if I did, how would I prepare? What clothes would I bring? What do I-
He stops at the front of his room’s door, “Jungkook.” He mumbles.
Oh my god, his mind panics. What would he tell Jungkook? What would Jungkook think of this?
Jungkook. Honestly, if people ask what he and Jungkook are, he wouldn’t know the answer too, but he can explain what he feels about him.
Jungkook is, is everything that makes his heart feel full. He was there when he cried, when he was mad, when he was happy, everything he did was always supported by him. He was the sweetest person in his life.
Jimin and Jungkook have known each other since they were in kindergarten. Alongside their group of friends. Jimin has always liked Jungkook ever since he laid his eyes on him, but since Jimin was young, he didn’t know what that feeling was.
When he got home from school that day, he waddles towards his mother showing his stars he got from school. He suddenly asks his mom, “Mom, there’s this friend I met today! He was very nice, and we shared food together! He said it was very yummy. I think he’s great!” Jimin exclaims while trying to color his homework. “That’s great, Jimin-ah!” his mom says while he ruffles his hair. Jimin smiles and hums back at his mother.
Ever since that day, he had always told about Jungkook to his mother, his feelings growing everyday not knowing that it was.
It was only the 4th year of his mother leaving to work in another country when he realized that he had feelings for Jungkook more than as a friend. He was turning
thirteen soon, when he acknowledged the feelings he had. On the same day, he chatted Jungkook to tell him how he felt.
JIMINssi ∞
Kookie! I have something to tell you!
GGUKIE ∞
Oh, hyung! I also have something to say actually.
But you go first!
JIMINssi ∞
Ah, well, you know we’ve known each other for a long time,
and, I’ve come to realize that I like you! Like I really like you
not just as a friend.
Jimin breath hitched, because he said it. He finally said it. Jungkook saw it. He immediately started worrying because it has been minutes since Jungkook read his messaged, and he started to think maybe Jungkook felt weird.
JIMINssi ∞
Kookie? Did I make it weird?
Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I made it weird, didn’t I?
GGUKIE ∞
No! Hyung uh. The thing I wanted to say..
I actually really like you too.
Jimin stared at his phone. He blinks once, blinks harder the second. He thought maybe he was hallucinating? Did Jungkook really like him? Jimin was shocked but still managed to type.
JIMINssi ∞
Really? You’re not joking right?
GGUKIE ∞
Yes, hyungie.
After seeing his immediate reply, he started blushing hard and screamed at his pillow, because Jungkook, the boy he fell for since they were kids, felt the same way towards him.
After that day, nothing changed, even if there was, it was a good change.
--------
A year after that, here was Jimin contemplating on what he should tell Jungkook about the move.
He called his best friend, Taehyung. He told him first because he wasn’t ready to tell Jungkook just yet. Plus, the day of his flight was a day before Tae’s birthday, which made everything worse for him.
“Jiminie? Hi! What’s up?” Taehyung says as soon as he answers the call.
“Hey, Tae. I just have to tell you something.” He replies with a sad tone.
“You okay? What is it?” Tae asks. Jimin exhales the breath he has been keeping.
“Well, my mom just told me that, I’ll be leaving soon. We will actually. She, she had applied me to a school there and, and I’ll be moving.” He responds, tears already
glistening his eyes.
“Oh. I mean, I’m happy for you. When are you leaving?” his best friend’s breath hitched while he replies to him.
“In.. in three days.” He retorts, while his tears finally flow down his face as soon as he says it.
“Three.. three days? You, you wouldn’t even be here for my birthday anymore?” Taehyung replies as he replies sadly.
“I’m sorry, Taehyung-ah.” He responds, because that’s the only thing he can say.
“I’m, I’m saddened, Jiminie, but I’m glad because you’d get to be with your mother again. Don’t worry about me, I know you’ll come back soon.” He finally answers, trying to smile behind the phone.
Jimin doesn’t reply for a moment, when his best friend says,
“Have you told Jungkook?” he asks.
He continues to be silent when Taehyung gets the hint.
“Oh no, baby. You have to tell him.” He tells Jimin.
“What if he gets mad? What if he can’t take it?” he finally responds to Taehyung.
“Jimin, if there is someone who would understand in this whole world other than me. It’s him. Listen I’ve got to go now, but please, tell Jungkook. He’ll understand, trust me. Okay? Love you, Jimin-ah.” Tae assures him.
“Okay, love you too. Bye.” He says as he ends the call.
He lays down on his bed and stares at the ceiling for a while. His mind wanders every where that he doesn’t even know what he’s thinking about.
But a few moments later he decides,
“Ah. He’ll understand right?” he tells himself, and picks up his phone to call Jungkook. It rings three times before hearing Jungkook’s voice.
“Hyungie? Hi.” Jungkook greets, his voice sounding a little groggy.
“Sorry, I just woke up from a nap.” He continues.
“Oh my, sorry baby! Should I call another time?” he worries.
“No, no, hyung. It’s okay, it’s about time I wake up anyway. What’s up baby?” he asks. Jimin’s take a deep breath. This is it. He has to tell him. He masks up the courage and finally tells him.
“Baby.. uhm. My mom, told me, we’ll be leaving soon. For good. For me to study and live with her overseas and it’s in three days and I didn’t know how to tell you, and I’m sorry that I have to leave, I’m sorry that I can’t stay, I’m sor—” Jimin murmurs and continues to rumble until he’s cut off by Jungkook’s voice.
“Stop saying sorry, I’m happy for you. Just because you’re leaving, doesn’t mean we’re cutting our ties, right? We’ll be okay. You’ll be okay. I’ll be okay. You’ll come back soon though, right?” Jungkook calmly reassures Jimin.
“Yes. Yes, I will. I will come back to you.” Jimin reassures him back.
“Then, I’ll wait for you.”
--------
It’s 2019 now.
Six years since all of that happened.
Six years since he left and never came back.
Six years since Jimin last talked to all of them.
Six years since he last talked to Jungkook.
On the same year those promises happened, they decided that they were still young and it was difficult to have a relationship that had a huge time gap and distance. That’s why they took a break and ever since, they couldn’t bring themselves to talk.
Jimin still talked to Taehyung sometimes though. The younger was still classmates with Jungkook and he often asks about Jungkook to which Taehyung replies with “I don’t know, he doesn’t really tell me anything.”
Three years ago, prior to today, Jimin tried to win Jungkook back, he made this group chat with Taehyung and Jungkook in order to tell him that he still feels the same way, but to that, he was filled with sadness and disappointment that Jungkook just read it and left the group, not even bothering to reply or message Jimin at all. That day, Taehyung just said “Maybe, you just have to wait or I don’t know. I’m sure he still likes you.” Jimin hopes that it’s true.
In the present, he doesn’t talk to them anymore, not even Taehyung. No heys, no how are you. Nothing.
In the present, Jimin has a boyfriend, the reason why he doesn’t talk to them anymore.
“Hey, babe? Who’s this Taehyung dude? I saw your old messages with him and you seem close. Does he like you? Do you like him?” Hyunho asks, jealousy radiating off from him.
“Oh, he's my bestfriend. I miss him.” Jimin answers, obviously getting sad by the second.
“Well, I don’t trust him. Don’t talk to him anymore.” Hyunho replies.
It’s always like this. A broken record that always repeats. Jimin couldn’t talk to anyone without asking his boyfriend if he could talk to them. Hyunho’s a great guy, but there’s this side of him that isn’t great. He’s possessive, hurtful, even calls Jimin names that hurts his emotional state. But Jimin just shrugs because he thinks it’s normal. That it’s like that for relationships. Little did he know, that it wasn’t.

MARCH 2019
Jimin’s in school, waiting for his turn to report about what Macro Economics is, when he was excused by a professor that received a call from his mother.
“Ms. Kim? What’s wrong?” Jimin asks worriedly.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Park. We’ve received a call that your” she talks a deep breath, “that your grandmother has passed.” She continues.
“Oh.” Is all he manages to say while his eyes started glistening. He called his mother immediately as soon as possible, but as soon as he heard his mother’s words, he started crying because of two things.
One, his grandmother who practically raised him, has passed.
Two, he’s finally going back to Korea, for the first time in six years.
He doesn’t know if he’s ready, but he’ll have to be.
