But things changed when after he sees his cousin’s newborn. Now Taehyung is as determined as ever to change Jeongguk mind and finally have a baby after years of waiting.

Chapter 1: I Want A Baby, Baby

Chapter Text

”The baby managed to finally fall asleep - so be extra quiet.” Namjoon warned him as Taehyung walked into the house. The omega nods as he followed his cousin-in-law to his living room practically tiptoeing, keeping in his breath to not wake up the baby.

In the living room was his favourite cousin, Seokjin. Slowly and gently rocking a smallest sleeping baby wrapped comfortably in a baby blue blanket boy in his arms. Taehyung nearly squealed as he laid eyes on his new nephew. Taking a good look at all his features, he looked like an absolute angel. He always already in love. But remembered he had to be extra quiet like Namjoon told him.

”Oh my gosh…” he whispered, covering the delicate smile growing on his pink lips with his free hand. This was his first time seeing the newest addition to the Kim family. Putting down the pack of diapers that he bought on his way to their house on the coffee table. Carefully approaching them Seokjin and his newest nephew, like a curious child. He let out the cutest, smallest yawn while wiggling his tiny fingers.

Taehyung felt his heart several beats just by looking at him. He looked so precious

On his head was a little gray beanie that the omega had personally knitted for him, ”Aw, he’s wearing the beanie that I made him.” Taehyung gushed as he sat down next to Seokjin on the three seater sofa, leaning forward to see the baby better.

He remembered having to redo the beanie about three times because he wanted it to be perfect, seeing him with it made it all worth it.

”He seems pretty comfortable in it.” Seokjin smiled fondly at the baby. “I think that’s why he managed to fall asleep.” He chuckled tiredly. Judging by the eyes bags underneath his cousins almond-shaped eyes, he looked exhausted. As expected, he just gave birth to a child two days ago.

Taehyung frowned, “Was he up all night?”

Namjoon and Seokjin both sighed. That alone was an answer enough. ”Yeah, he’d only fall asleep for an hour or two before waking up again. It was hard to get any shut-eye.” the alpha admitted, sitting down on the armrest. Namjoon looked equally as exhausted as Jin did.

”But it’s fine.” Seokjin says. ” Just seeing him like this makes the sleepless nights worth it.” his eyes go up to Namjoon, who leans down and kisses his lips.

The younger omega pretends to gag, causing the couple to separate, laughing.

”You guys can get lovey dovey later.” Taehyung jokes. ” Oh wait!” Taehyung almost forgot. ”I didn't even ask if you guys decided on a name yet.” looking at both Namjoon and Seokjin eagerly.

Not all couples usually knew what the baby is gonna be before they come out but most did. Namjoon and Seokjin were quite indecisive people so it was hard for them to figure out a name.

”Well, we got a lot of good name choices so it was hard to figure out which one to choose.” Seokjin says, Namjoon agreeding. ”But we decided to go with the one that grandad suggested.” he tells him.

”Hajoon?”

”Yep.” Namjoon nods. ”It’s supposed to mean grand one.”

”That's a wonderful name, he looks like a Hajoon too.” Taehyung trailed back to him, he could see his chest rise and fall as he inhaled and exhaled. It wasn't anything special but it made Taehyung all fuzzy. ”I’m sorry I wasn't able to be there.” he apologised.

Taehyung, unfortunately, wasn't able to be the moral support of Seokjin during his labor. He had night shifts to do at the hospital and wasn't able to miss them. It made him feel terrible because he promised Jin that he’d be there for it but he couldn't be. ”I hope it wasn't too terrible.”

Glaring at Taehyung he told him, ”You don’t even want to know. But it was worthy.”

”He looks so precious.” he admired. ”I’m gonna spoil him so much.” Taehyung grinned.

Something about Taehyung was that he absolutely adored children and babies. In the motherly way of course. Ever since he was a little omega he always wanted to work with little kids when he got older. Either as a kindergarten teacher or a children’s nurse until one day he has own little baby with his own partner eventually.

”Instead of spoiling him, why not give him a little cousins to play with.” Seokjin jested.

Namjoon reached for Hajoon, ”I’m gonna put him in his cradle instead.” he his husband, gentle slipping the sleepy baby into his arms and carrying him off their nursery.

Taehyung watching him go before looking back at his cousin, ”I don’t know.” he shrugged. ”One day, but we’re not in a rush at the moment.” he explained for like the hundredth time. As baby crazy as Taehyung was even at the age of twenty-eight he still didn’t have his baby to call his own, which was quite unusual for omegas. Most had babies by twenty-five.

”You guys aren’t in a rush or is it Jeongguk that's not in a rush?”

The look he gave Seokjin said it all, ”You know it’s complicated.”

Jeongguk was Taehyung’s husband of three years now and boyfriend of almost two years but they’ve now each other for almost five years which was still a short amount of time. They had first met when Taehyung was 24 and fresh out of university, while Jeongguk was only 23 still training to a fireman. They meet at a mutual friends party, Jungkook and Taehyung talked all night, eventually he offered to take the omega out on a date and it's been history since.

The alpha was a sweet, caring and funny guy that Taehyung loved very much. He seemed to have no flaws.

Seokjin takes Taehyung’s hands in his own, ”Does he still not want kids?”

Well he had one flaw.

Jeongguk didn't want kids.

It's not like he hates them. Jeongguk was great with kids, but when Taehyung brought up to topic of having their own kids he would always avoid it like the plague. Eventually he just stopped talking about it.

”We haven’t spoken about kids in quite some time so I don't know where his headspace is with everything.” Taehyung huffed. The last time he remembered bring up children was maybe nine months ago, it was around Christmas time and now it's August. Jeongguk told him to just wait, nothing more.

”But Taehyung, I know how much you want kids of your own. Even more than I originally did. How long are you willing to wait?”

He looked up at the ceiling, slouching against the couch, ”I’ll just wait. I’m only twenty-eight after all...I still have some time. I mean you’re thirty-one.”

”You’re a midwife, Tae, so you know that fertility only last so long, especially at our age. You know how hard it was for me to get Hajoon.” Seokjin was quite the wildcard, he never planned on becoming a mother or even getting married until three years ago when a gentle, wise man known as Namjoon managed to hold him down. When they decided to try for a baby, it wasn't as easy for them to get Hajoon.

”Grandma asked me already wondering why you haven't had one yet since all our other cousins have already.”

Taehyung’s hurt dropped at the mention of their grandma. It was true, the only remaining ones that hadn't kids were him and Jin but now Seokjin had Hajoon, leaving him alone. He only just realised that.

”What did you tell her?” he asks a little bit panicked.

”Like you said, you two are waiting.”

”Just keep telling her that.” Taehyung tells him. ”You know how traditional she is, she’ll freak if she found out Jeongguk didn't want any kids. Probably banned him for any family gatherings.” knowing his grandma, she was definitely capable of doing do. ”And like I said before, I’m really not in a rush either...until Jeongguk is ready, I’ll just continue spoiling my nephews and nieces.”

He spent most of the day at their house, but the sun set he said his goodbyes and headed back to his own apartment. As Taehyung walked into aromatic smell of cooking food filled his nose. ”I’m home!” he called, kicking off his shoes. Not bothering to put them back in the cabinet next to the foyer. He’d do it later.

Taehyung followed his nose to the source of the pungent aroma, which was the kitchen. Where his husband was busy stirring a boiling pot of whatever, with his red cooking apron on that said daddy’s cooking . Jeongguk turned around as he noticed Taehyung approaching, ”Hey, babe.” he greeted leaning in for a kiss when the omega was close enough.

”What are you cooking?” Taehyung asked curiously, resting his head against his shoulder.

”Just some army stew.” Jeongguk said, making Taehyung clap happily. Taehyung loved army stew, they ate it often when they went out for korean barbecue. It was Jeongguk who got him not it when he came back from enlistment. “We had all the ingredients already so I thought why not try to make it by myself.” He told him.

Unlike Taehyung, Jeongguk actually enjoyed cooking while to Taehyung it was the bane of his existence. Whenever he was bored he’d try out new recipes, Taehyung wasn’t complaining. It just meant that he didn’t have to do all the hard cooking in the house.

“Well I’m sure it’s going to be delicious.” Taehyung kisses his cheek, “Where’s Cloudy?” He wondered leaning against the counter near the stove, usually when he walked into the door Cloudy would always be waiting for him foyer, wagging his tail happily.

“He fell asleep sometime ago.”

“Cloudy is sleepier than usual these days..” Taehyung remarked, leaning against the counter besides Jungkook.

“It’s just old age, I’ve had him since I was in middle school.” Jeongguk replies, that was almost seven years ago. “The stew is practically done, do you mind setting up the table, Tae?” He asked.

Taehyung pushes himself onto his feet, “I’m on it.” he opened up their utensil draw, taking two metals spoons out - they had a lot of chopsticks. Fancy ones that family had given them and the ones they got from takeout. In the end he just took two metal chopsticks to match the spoons. ”I didn’t even ask, how was your day.” Taehyung wondered.

”I stayed at home most of the day.” Jeongguk replied turning off the stove, ”But I did go to the gym with some guys down at the firefighter.” he told him. Jeongguk worked at the local firefighter department as a firefighter.

He hummed attentively, placing the utensils at their respective spots.

“We tried to see who could reach 80 push-ups the quickest.” Jeongguk took the still steaming stew and brought it over to the table, remembering to place a mat under to not burn the table.

“80 pushes?” Taehyung gasped, he could barely to twenty without feeling like his arms were gonna break off. He shouldn’t even be surprised, most of them are muscle heads but friendly muscle heads. “I don’t think I’ll ever see the fun in working out. Did you make rice?” He looked around .

Jeongguk nudges his head towards the rice cooker at the corner on the counter.

“I guess it’s just habitats.” He shrugged. He’s been going to the gym as much as he could since he was in university, it was a stress reliever but now it was just a habitat he couldn’t get rid off.

“Did you do anything else?” Taehyung scoped the cooked rice into two separate small-sized bowls for them two before placing at the table.

Jeongguk went over to the fridge and took out some of his mother’s homemade kimchi. He was a good cook but something he still wasn’t able to master the art of good kimchi. “Nah, just came back home and hung around.” the alpha says. “What about you? How did things go at Seokjin’s place?” he asked as Taehyung already slipped into his chair waiting for him.

“The baby is soooo cute!” Taehyung exclaimed happily. “I have so many pictures of him.” he said reaching for his phone in his pocket and opening up the photo gallery that was already filled with pictures of Hajoon. Jeongguk approached with his mother’s homemade kimchi, looking down at the photos as Taehyung held his phone to him.

“Cute.” He compliments.

“Isn’t he.” Taehyung grins, cherishing the photo of the baby.

“What’s his name?” Jeongguk sat down.

“Hajoon.”

Jeongguk nods, “I always thought Jin didn’t want to have kids.” His cousin has said multiple times that he wasn’t going to have kids but it’s usually the ones that say that end up having kids.

“Well, it happens.” He slipped his phone back into his phone. “He seems so excited to be a parent, him and Namjoon.” Taehyung said, remembering how bright their smile was when Hajoon simply looked at them or slept. “Even the nursery, it turned out so well. The walls were a light shade of gray with clouds and stars. That was the theme. They’re so lucky.” using his chopsticks to pick up a piece of tofu from the pot, blowing on it before popping it into his mouth. “It’s hot.” he warned.

“Be careful.” He scooped some rice into his mouth, “Caring for a baby is hard, I hope they can manage. I’m seeing news stories about parents neglecting thir children. Not saying they will obviously.” he says and Taehyung just hums. ”I remember watching on Hello Counsellor the other day, a child who wouldn't talk to his parents anymore and developed bad habits because of the their parents raised them. It takes a lot of skill to raise a chile.”

“It must be hard but in the end it’s worth it once your child gets older.” Taehyung smiled, he thought back to what Seokjin had told him. Try to ask him what he thinks about having a baby too and now that they were talking about it was the perfect time. “It had me thinking…” he bit his lip.

The sound of his spoon clinking against the ceramic bowl stopped. Jeongguk eyes raised to his with a suspicious glint, like he already had a bad feeling about what Taehyung was about to tell him.

“It’s been quite a while since we last talked about this but…” Taehyung hesitated. “I was wondering when you were ready to start having kids.” Looking back at him nervously.

He put down his spoon, Taehyung waiting for him to say something. The silence we made him regret ever bringing it back up. “I thought we agreed that we weren’t rushing anything, Tae.” Jeongguk sighed, rubbing his eyes.

“I know but that was like a year ago. I was just wondering what your thoughts we on having one now…” Taehyung continues. “We are both financially stable, have a nice apartment-”

”We both work long hours and the apartment is still on rent.” he corrects. ”I don’t think we need one now.”

Taehyung frowns, obviously disappointed by his response. “But when is the right time then?” He questioned, putting down his chopsticks. “We’ve been married for three years already most omegas have their first baby within a year of their marriage.”

“Doesn’t mean we have to be the same as them.”

He felt his patience ticking the more words Jeongguk spoke, “I’m already twenty-eight Jeongguk, an omegas fertility doesn’t last a lifetime.” Taehyung told him, it was harder to get pregnant when you pass your twenties. He was worried. “What if when your finally ready, I can’t have kids anymore?”

“That won’t happen.”

“You don’t work in hospitals, Jeongguk, I do.” He snapped.

Jeongguk tongue poked at the edge of his mouth, something he usually did when he was frustrated or annoyed. “Taehyung, I really don’t want to talk now over this.” He shakes his head.

Taehyung rolled his eyes, “You never do.” he chuckled.

“Because it’s not important.” Taehyung nearly gasped when he said that. How could he say that it wasn’t important?

He got up from his seat and with a snarl he spat, “I’m not hungry anymore.”

“Tae, that’s not what I meant.” Jeongguk tried stopping him.

“It's not important to you because it’s something I want.” Taehyung shouted, storming away to their bedroom before Jungkook could stop him, slamming it shut. Making Jeongguk whine at the sound. The alpha sighed, sitting back in his chair - only for the door to open again. “And don’t bother coming back to bed, sleep on the couch!” he told him before shutting it closed again.
