Work Text:
Uraraka dropped next to Bakugou on the common room couch with a frustrated huff.
“You would not believe the day I had!”
It was nearly midnight, just in time for their late night study session. It was the only time they could be together with no one else around to bother them or ask intrusive questions that couldn’t be answered.
A half laugh puffed out through his nostrils. “I can believe it. I was there. Remember, Cheeks?”
She barreled forward as if he hadn’t said anything. “First, I was late to class.”
He shook his head and went back to his homework. “Yup. Saw that shit.”
“Then, I spilled my friggin’ miso soup all over my uniform at lunch.” She grabbed the fabric at her chest and tugged, as if she were still wearing the sullied shirt.
“Saw that shit too.” He made a small irritated growl and said, “Fucking Deku had to go and make a huge ass scene of helping you clean up and grabbing napkins for you and… ugh. So damn annoying.”
He added quietly, “I could have done that for you too, ya know.”
Very few people knew about their newly formed relationship and both preferred to keep it that way for the time being. Bakugou toed the line between selfishly keeping her only to himself and shouting to everyone and their mother that they were together. Uraraka was fine with whatever he wanted, but knew that once they crossed that line there was no going back. So they kept it under wraps for now.
She temporarily stopped her rant to stroke his cheek. “Yeah, I know. But you were with your friends across the cafeteria and it would have been weird if you did that for me, right?”
He grumbled to himself in reluctant agreement before sticking his nose back in his book.
In turn, she quickly resumed her previous train of thought. “And then, we got our results back from the latest exam, and I slipped three spots. I’m 11th in the class rankings now.”
That statement made him turn to her in surprise. “Wait. Damn, I didn’t know that.”
“Yeah.”
“Maybe if you stopped talking and actually started studying,” he chastised her.
“And then!” she interrupted him. He sighed and shook his head in feigned disapproval. “Even worse, I lost my match against Mineta during the training session. Against Mineta. What the hell happened out there?!”
This time, he tutted in actual disapproval. “What did I tell you about never underestimating your opponent?”
“I know that!” She lightly punched him on the shoulder and he rubbed the area, looking down at her with a bewildered expression. “I know, but still! I should have been able to take him easily.” She buried her head into her hands and let out a strangled moan. “That was so embarrassing.”
“Tch. You’re still doing it. That’s what you get for not listening to me,” he scolded her further.
She ignored him and plowed forward with her story. “And then! And then!” Her voice crescendoed to a shrill tone. “If all that wasn’t enough, this happened!” She pulled up her sweatshirt’s sleeve to show a large bandage on her elbow.
“The hell?” He gently held her arm in his palm, inspecting the injury.
“Fell right outside the dorm. Skinned my elbow.” She pulled her sweatshirt sleeve back down. “Today was the worst!”
Sure, Uraraka had a rough day but she had just the thing to make her feel better: the Marukawa brand’s ultra exclusive sakura mochi flavored chewing gum. It was so rare, they only sold a few dozen packs at select locations during the two weeks in the spring to coincide with cherry blossom season. When she finally managed to get her hands on a pack after waiting in line for hours at the Musutafu Hanami Festival, she coveted it the way she coveted the roof over her head.
Today, that piece of gum would offer some relief after the complete trainwreck of a day she had.
Truthfully, having Bakugou sitting next to her was already making her feel better. But what she really wanted was to savor that gum, the last vestige of all that was good in the day’s final minutes as she dove into what was sure to be a late night of studying.
After getting herself situated with her homework, she reached into her bag to feel for the small package. Her hand fumbled around and came up with a stray hair tie, an extra pen, and a couple of old receipts. The gum was nowhere to be found.
Then she saw the packet. On the table. Empty. When did that happen?
“Hey, do you know where the last piece…” she trailed off when she looked up at him.
It was his jaw that caught her eye. Yes, it was a beautiful one, but it wasn’t the chiseled structure that had her attention. It was the way it was moving. Up and down. As if he were chewing something. She narrowed her eyes at him.
“What’s that in your mouth?”
He stayed concentrated on his homework without a glance up at her. “Gum,” he answered.
“What. Gum. Is. It?” she asked with slow staccato sentences.
His attention remained trained downward at the book in front of him, hand scribbling something down on a sheet of paper. “I dunno. Whatever was in there.” He gave a lazy tip of his head towards her bag on the table.
“Is that the last piece of gum?”
He paused his writing and looked up at her. “The fuck you talking about?”
“The last piece of my super rare sakura mochi gum that I was saving?”
She had to move quickly. It was losing flavor by the second. She slid across the couch and swung her leg over his thighs to straddle him. Startled, he dropped the loose leaf paper he had in his hand and it floated to the floor.
“The hell? What are you do-“ before he could even finish his sentence, she plopped her lips onto his and her tongue immediately went to work. A sigh traveled out of him and found its way into her.
Just when her tongue touched the soft surface of the gum, he snapped back to reality and placed his hands on her shoulders to push her off him. “Shit. Hold up, Cheeks. What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
“Getting my gum back,” she stated, matter-of-factly.
“Your gum?!” He started chewing it on instinct.
“No! I mean yes! I mean… Stop chewing!” Her hand snapped up to cup his chin with a firm grip, preventing his mouth from doing any more damage. “That was my last piece and you stole it!”
He wrestled his face out of her grasp. “You fuckin’ serious? You’re being so gross. I’ll buy you a new pack if you care so much about it.”
“You can’t!” She crossed her arms and cried out like a kid that didn’t get candy at the grocery store. She didn’t care how shameless she was being. That gum was hers and hers alone. “It’s this really rare and exclusive flavor you can only get during cherry blossom season and I was saving it, but you went and took it without asking!”
“Are you kidding me right now? Someone could’ve fucking seen us and you’re getting mad at me over a goddamn piece of gum.” He tried to push her off but she locked her knees against his thighs.
Shs shrugged. “Don’t care. I want my gum back.” She laid the pads of her fingers on his lips.
He stared at her for a moment, wide eyed and surprised by her sudden spike of straightforwardness. He looked around the common room and towards the elevator. It was silent, Bakugou and Uraraka being the only two students outside of their rooms. A devilish grin spread across his face. “If you want it so bad, you’re gonna have to try and get it.”
His challenge spurred her into action and she dropped her lips to his again. This time he was less forthcoming with the kiss. His tongue stayed glued to the top of his mouth, blocking her from accessing what she wanted.
She turned her head at an angle, lining up their mouths more conveniently for her to dive in. In her aggression, she pushed his head down against the back of the couch, her body pressing on his from chest to torso to hips. But his tongue did not budge.
His hands snuck behind her and under her shirt, stroking the soft skin on her back, right where he knew she liked it. Oh, that felt good. She sighed and relaxed her body, nibbling his lips, licking them softly, showing him how much she appreciated what he was doing. Her hands went to his shoulders and he held her even tighter against him. He smiled curved against her lips.
Wait. No! She couldn’t get distracted! This called for more drastic measures.
She followed his lead and slid her hands up the front of his shirt, playing with the ridges of his abs, running her fingers through the indents in his skin.
He couldn’t resist moaning at her touch. It was enough. Her tongue snuck in and reached for the gum, but just before she could access it, he broke away from her. Behind her back, he grabbed the empty wrapper and spit the used up gum into the paper and crumpled it closed.
She gasped. “You… you didn’t.” She couldn’t believe it. She stared at the gum, now trash, where it laid on the table.
“I did.” He was clearly very pleased with himself and that irked her.
“But why?” she whined.
He gave her an incredulous look. “Because that shit is disgusting. I’m not going to give you my used gum.”
“B-but,” she sputtered.
“B-but nothing,” he parroted back to her.
She playfully beat at his chest with her fists. “But that was my used gum!”
“You’re so fucking gross.” He gently circled her wrists with his fingers.
“And you like it,” she laughed. He let her arms go and she wound them around his neck.
“Tch. Only sometimes.” A light blush dusted his face as he looked away from her. She loved how soft he could get around her. He made her feel gigantic, like she could scale his walls with a footstep.
She rubbed the tip of his nose against his. “You mean all of the time.”
He rolled his eyes, but still chuckled softly. “Whatever you say.”
She shot him a sly smile. “You know what this means? You lost.”
A strained cough sputtered from his mouth. “Lose? Hah! I didn’t lose. You didn’t get the gum. You lost.”
“Nope. You forfeited when you threw it away.” She dropped a kiss on his forehead. “It’s okay.”
A loud groan escaped him. “Whatever! Fine! Look at me, being the bigger person. So in the grand scheme of things, I win.”
“Pointing it out and saying you win doesn’t make you a bigger person. You know that, right?”
After all that, she was finding the day’s events easily forgotten by spending time with him. He could make everything better without even trying.
She giggled and bent her head down, this time for a much more tender kiss. She pulled back and patted him on the shoulder. “Okay. Time to study now.”
He brought her back into his chest and kissed her along her jawline. “Nope. You started it.”
“So are you saying you’re going to end it?” she laughed into his hair.
“You know me. I always finish,” he quipped.
Her eyebrows show up. “Look at you, being all sassy.”
“You’re rubbing off on me.”
“I’ll happily rub off on you.”
“Fucking hell, Cheeks, stop,” he jokingly pleaded.
“Okay, okay,” she whispered, conceding to him. She was happy to note that the sweet flavor still lingered on his lips, a victory in itself that she internally relished.
Giggles and kisses and sighs filled the empty room. If the two weren’t lost in their own world, they would have heard the ding of the elevator and the heavy footsteps of their classmates entering the room.
A gasp cut through the air.
Uraraka jumped off Bakugou’s lap, hitting the small of her back against the table. She hissed in pain, rubbing the bruised area before sitting back on the couch next to Bakugou.
Iida stood there with his hand over his mouth, face reddening in shock. He was accompanied by Midoriya and Todoroki behind him.
After surveying the scene, Midoriya’s eyes went wide. He immediately slapped his palms over his face. “Oh god. My eyes. My eyes!”
“Goddamn it, Deku. You don’t have to be such a fucking virgin about it!” Bakugou huffed.
The boy giggled with glee at the couple’s expense.
On the other hand, Iida was completely flabbergasted. “Since when? Were you two always? But… Huh?!” he sputtered.
Then he quickly composed himself by coughing behind a fist, then clearing his throat, and said, “While I admire this new development in your relationship, if we could keep such activities behind closed doors it would be greatly appreciated.”
An unfazed Todoroki cut in. “Plus, Midoriya’s not a virgin,” he added, completely nonplussed.
“Oh god. My ears. My ears!” Uraraka clapped her hands to the sides of her head, taking the opportunity to mock her best friend.
“Oh haha, very funny,” he responded, voice laced with sarcasm.
“Wait a second. Why am I the only one shocked here?” Iida turned to Midoriya and Todoroki. “Did you two know about this?” He gestured towards the couch where the couple sat, still breathless with embarrassingly pink faces.
Midoriya shrugged. Todoroki shrugged.
“How could I be so out of the loop?!” Iida wailed.
“It’s not exactly common knowledge, you don’t have to beat yourself up about it!” Uraraka attempted to comfort him.
“Next you’re going to tell me that you two are dating!” Iida pointed at the two boys standing next to each other.
The room fell silent. Uraraka and Bakugou carefully watched for Todoroki and Midoriya’s reaction.
Midoriya nervously laughed. “Don’t be silly!”
“He’s not a virgin,” Todoroki pointedly repeated.
“Anyway!” Midoriya loudly announced, giving Todoroki a sharp glare. “I’m going to get some food.”
“Hm. Have fun, you two,” Todoroki said to Bakugou and Uraraka as he followed Midoriya to the kitchen.
This left the two of them with Iida, who slid his glasses up the bridge of his nose and awkwardly said, “I’m gonna… okay.” He made his way to the kitchen as well.
“Well. Your dumbass friends killed the mood.” Bakugou stacked his belongings and placed them neatly into his bag.
“Aw, I wanted to hang out more.” Uraraka blinked up at him with round puppy dog eyes. Her hand slid into his to lighty lace her fingers with his.
He paused and looked down at her. “Can’t believe I’m going to say this but,” he bent down and whispered into her ear, “Why don’t we take Four Eyes’ advice and go behind closed doors?”
Without another word, she slid her arm across the table push everything into her bag. She had never cleaned up so fast before in her life.
The day turned out to be not so bad after all.
