G'morning Sunshine

Summary:

It isn’t long before Shouta starts to wake, sleepily opening his eyes and looks at the older man, bright blue eyes under the dark shadow of his brow staring fondly back at him and a grin to accompany it. He can’t help but squint at how bright that smile is.

It’s like looking into the sun.

Notes:

This originally was a small drabble that I posted on Twitter a long time back and I decided to revise and extend it. It's been a few years since I've posted something on here.

Big thanks to inversidom_riot for being my beta reader.

Enjoy!~

Work Text:

Toshinori wakes up before Shouta.

It’s early dawn from what he could make out through the window. Everything is quiet except for the sound of the other softly snoring. Both are facing each other and he can’t help but stare at how soft he looks in his sleep, tracing over his features; around his eyes, over the point of his nose, across his cheekbones and the unkempt scruff of beard that he adores so much.

“Mornin’,” says Toshinori, deep baritone voice soft in the quiet of their room. He brings his calloused hand to Shouta’s face and rubs his thumb under his right eye, tracing the scar, the touch of the wedding band warm against his cheek. Shouta smirks under the gesture, a faint blush forming on his cheek.

Toshinori pulls him in close that their noses are touching. He rubs his fingers in smooth circles against the small of other’s back over the thin fabric of his shirt. Shouta hums in response and brings his right hand to card through the blond’s untamed hair, massaging him as he does so. He playfully tugs at his bangs and kneads his scalp, knowing exactly what spots get his husband to relax. Toshinori melts to the touch, and he nuzzles Shouta’s cheek, ghosting his lips near the corner of his mouth. Shouta tips his head slightly and gently kisses Toshinori, the press of his lips warm against his. Toshinori can’t help but grin into the kiss and pulls him even closer into a tight embrace, their chests flush against each other and body warm against the tangle of their limbs under the blanket.

They will never get tired of this. Their kisses are soft and chaste, drinking in each other’s little sighs and savoring the moment. They have no classes to teach nor do they have anything planned as it’s their day off. The sun peeks through the window and slowly brightens up the room, sending shades of orange to dance across the room. They eventually break contact, leaning their foreheads together.

“Morning to you too,” Shouta finally says back, voice rasped with sleep and a small hint of a smile. Toshinori presses a tender kiss against the slight upturn of his husband's lips. Shouta doesn’t take his eyes off Toshinori afterwards and looks at him like he’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. They’ve known each other and been together long enough that they don’t always need to speak to know what the other is thinking or feeling. The adoration in Shouta’s eyes speak volumes that not even words can describe. Toshinori can’t help but flush a bright pink that travels from his cheeks to the tips of his ears.

Toshinori pulls Shouta in, his chin resting on top of the other’s disheveled black hair. Before closing his eyes, he places a soft kiss on Shouta’s forehead. Silence flooded the room and Toshinori can feel the soft motion of light rubs on his lower back from Shouta.

“Shall I start with breakfast?” Toshinori muttered, not wanting to disturb the comforting quiet. He does a quick stretch, joints popping as he does so and sits upright on his elbow, causing Shouta’s hand to fall from his back and gently brush over his large sunburst scar through the fabric of his shirt before settling to his thin waist. He brushes Shouta’s hair behind his ear, caressing his face as he does so.

“Yeah. I’ll start the coffee and set the kettle for your tea.”

Toshinori nods in response, but before he can fully get off the bed he’s pulled abruptly by the back of his shirt and lands on top of Shouta who brings his arms over the others neck to hold him in place. Toshinori allows his entire weigh to ease and Shouta closes the distance between them, kissing him so sweetly. Toshinori can’t help but warmly laugh into the kiss which in turn causes the younger man to laugh that genuine laugh that he undeniably loves.

The feeling of Shouta so close was enough to warm his heart tenfold, and the undeniable feeling of home flooded his mind and chest.

Home.

It felt like home.
