Work Text:
“It’ll only take a minute.” He said, “Then we can hang out.”
That was the lie Iku told Rui an hour ago, and the green-haired junior was getting very bored watching him do his homework. Iku didn’t look like he was having too much fun either, as he seemed to use his eraser more than his lead. Eventually, Iku let out a frustrated groan and closed up his work.
“Are you done?” Rui asked and sat up, his eyes lit up with excitement.
“Yeah, done for today anyway.” Iku grumbled and took a seat next to Rui on his bed.
Rui frowned a bit, it was a rare sight to see Iku so agitated, “Everything okay?”
“Not exactly.”
“Want to talk about it?”
Iku shook his head, “No, I promised we’d hang out and I already wasted enough of our time doing that assignment.”
Rui pouted, “But how will Ikkun enjoy himself if he’s angry?”
“I’m not angry. I’m just...mad…”
“That’s the same thing.”
“I know…”
Rui patted his friend’s back, “Tell me what’s wrong Iku.”
Iku took a deep breath and let out his frustration about the terrible semester he was having with a troubling math class.
“I don’t understand why the alphabet suddenly has to be involved with numbers! And don’t get me started on proofs...a square is a square, why do I have to prove it?!”
As the rant went on, Rui didn’t exactly understand all of what Iku was explaining as he was in a lower-level math class than his friend. He now does not regret the course he took as Iku talked on.
“Ugh! Anyway, my only hope is that I don’t fail too miserably where it messes up my chances at a good university.” Iku finally stated, rubbing his face.
“Ikkun shouldn’t worry about that,” Rui encouraged, “There’s Haru-san who Kakeru and Koi say is a walking encyclopedia, so I’m sure he’ll know how to help. Then there’s Hajime-san, but Koi says his study methods are scary...Oh! Kai-san helps me out a lot with my homework so you can always ask him too! And…”
“Okay okay, I get it. I have a lot of resources at hand.” Iku laughed.
Rui nodded, “Yes, so Ikkun will not fail! He can’t fail!”
Iku smiled, “Thanks Rui.”
Rui returned the smile and opened his arms for a hug, which Iku gladly accepted the invitation.
“You’re a great friend, Rui,” Iku said, giving his friend a little squeeze.
“I can be a better boyfriend…” Rui murmured.
Iku pulled away from the embrace and looked at Rui, tilting his head, “What was that?”
“Nothing.”
“No...I thought I heard you say…”
“That you looked tired, friend.” Rui covered up.
As if on cue, Iku let out a yawn, “Ah, you’re right. I used too much of my brain on that assignment, and the rant wore me out even more.”
“Time for Ikkun to sleep then.”
Iku nodded and stood up from the bed to gather his things to return to his room. However, Rui grasped his sleeve and tugged on it lightly to gain Iku’s attention.
“Sleep here.” Rui offered.
Iku raised an eyebrow, “Are you sure about that Rui? We are eighteen, basically adults, you don’t think sleeping in the same bed is kind of weird?”
Rui shook his head, “No. Kai-san still lets me sleep in his bed if I have a really bad dream. It’s what friends do.”
Iku pondered the idea for a moment and shrugged, agreeing to stay the night. Rui scooted over on his bed and laid down with Iku lying beside him. The smaller idol snuggled closer to Iku and hummed happily when he felt his friends arms wrap around him.
“Goodnight Rui.”
“Goodnight...Iku…” Rui mumbled as he closed his eyes.
Iku chuckled slightly at how fast his friend fell asleep. Still, he followed suit and closed his eyes, entering a night’s rest. Then, a single turquoise eye opened and looked up Iku. Rui watched carefully to see if his friend was truly asleep before scooting up a bit to face him.
“Sleep well Ikkun.” Rui whispered, moving away Iku's brown bangs and gave his forehead a little kiss, “A kiss for good dreams~”
Rui moved back down into Iku’s arms and rested his head on his chest, falling asleep to his friend’s steady breathing. Never noticing the grin that spread across Iku’s face.
